Three-loop planar master integrals for heavy-to-light form factors

We calculate analytically the three-loop planar master integrals relevant for heavy-to-light form factors using the method of differential equations. After choosing a proper canonical basis, the boundary conditions are easy to be determined, and the solution of differential equations is greatly simplified. The results for seventy-one master integrals at general kinematics are all expressed in terms of harmonic polylogarithms.

Braneworld in $f(T)$ Gravity Theory with Noncanonical Scalar Matter Field

In this paper, we investigate the braneworld scenario in $f(T)$ gravity with a $K$-field as the background field. We consider various different specific forms of $f(T)$ gravity and $K$-field, and find a general way to construct the braneworld model. Based on our solutions, the split of branes is investigated. Besides, the stability of the braneworld is studied by investigating the tensor perturbation of the vielbein.

Log-periodic quantum magneto-oscillations and discrete scale invariance in topological material HfTe5

Discrete scale invariance (DSI) is a phenomenon featuring intriguing log-periodicity which can be rarely observed in quantum systems. Here we report the log-periodic quantum oscillations in the magnetoresistance (MR) and the Hall traces of HfTe5 crystals, which reveals the appearance of DSI. The oscillations show the same logB-periodicity in the behavior of MR and Hall, indicating an overall effect of the DSI on the transport properties. Moreover, the DSI feature in the Hall resistance signals its close relation to the carriers. Combined with theoretical simulations, we further clarify the origin of the log-periodic oscillations and the DSI in the topological materials. Our work evidences the universality of the DSI in the Dirac materials and paves way for the full understanding of the novel phenomenon.

Anomalous quantum Griffiths singularity in ultrathin crystalline lead films

We study the magnetic field induced superconductor-metal transition (SMT) in ultrathin crystalline Pb films. By performing ultralow temperature transport measurement, the divergent critical exponent as an indication of quantum Griffiths singularity (QGS) is observed when approaching zero temperature quantum critical point. Distinctively, the phase boundary of SMT exhibits an anomalous behavior in low temperature regime that the onset critical field decreases with decreasing temperatures, which distinguishes our observation from earlier reports of QGS in various two-dimensional superconductors. We demonstrate that this observed anomalous phase boundary has its origin from the superconducting fluctuations in ultrathin Pb films. Our findings reveal a novel aspect of the QGS of SMT in two-dimentional superconducting systems with anomalous phase boundary.

Decycling Number of Linear Graphs of Trees

The decycling number of a graph $G$ is the minimum number of vertices whose removal from $G$ results in an acyclic subgraph. It is known that determining the decycling number of a graph $G$ is equivalent to finding the maximum induced forests of $G$. The line graphs of trees are the claw-free block graphs. These graphs have been used by Erdős, Saks and Sós to construct graphs with a given number of edges and vertices whose maximum induced tree is very small. In this paper, we give bounds on the decycling number of line graphs of trees and construct extremal trees to show that these bounds are the best possible. We also give bounds on the decycling number of line graph of $k$-ary trees and determine the exact the decycling number of line graphs of perfect $k$-ary trees.

A question of Norton-Sullivan in the analytic case

In 1996, A. Norton and D. Sullivan asked the following question: If $f:\mathbb{T}^2\rightarrow\mathbb{T}^2$ is a diffeomorphism, $h:\mathbb{T}^2\rightarrow\mathbb{T}^2$ is a continuous map homotopic to the identity, and $h f=T_ρ h$ where $ρ\in\mathbb{R}^2$ is a totally irrational vector and $T_ρ:\mathbb{T}^2\rightarrow\mathbb{T}^2,\, z\mapsto z+ρ$ is a translation, are there natural geometric conditions (e.g. smoothness) on $f$ that force $h$ to be a homeomorphism? In [ J. Wang and Z. Zhang, GAFA 2018 ], the first author and Z. Zhang gave a negative answer to the above question in the $C^{\infty}$ category: In general, not even the infinite smoothness condition can force $h$ to be a homeomorphism. In this article, we give a negative answer in the $C^ω$ category: We construct a real-analytic conservative and minimal totally irrational pseudo-rotation of $\mathbb{T}^2$ that is semi-conjugate to a translation but not conjugate to a translation, which simultaneously answers a question raised in [ J. Wang and Z. Zhang, GAFA 2018 ].

Heat kernel estimates of fractional Schrödinger operators with negative hardy potential

We obtain two-sided estimates for the heat kernel (or the fundamental function) associated with the following fractional Schrödinger operator with negative Hardy potential $$Δ^{α/2} -λ|x|^{-α}$$ on $\RR^d$, where $α\in(0,d\wedge 2)$ and $λ>0$. The proof is purely analytical but elementary. In particular, for upper bounds of heat kernel we use the Chapman-Kolmogorov equation and adopt self-improving argument.

Electron Transport in Dirac and Weyl Semimetals

Recently, the Dirac and Weyl semimetals have attracted extensive attention in condensed matter physics due to both the fundamental interest and the potential application of a new generation of electronic devices. Here we review the exotic electrical transport phenomena in Dirac and Weyl semimetals. Section 1 is a brief introduction to the topological semimetals (TSMs). In Section 2 and Section 3, the intriguing transport phenomena in Dirac semimetals (DSMs) and Weyl semimetals (WSMs) are reviewed, respectively. The most widely studied Cd3As2 and the TaAs family are selected as representatives to show the typical properties of DSMs and WSMs, respectively. Beyond these systems, the advances in other TSM materials, such as ZrTe5 and the MoTe2 family, are also introduced. In Section 4, we provide perspectives on the study of TSMs especially on the magnetotransport investigations.

Two-Dimensional Photogalvanic Spin-Battery

Pure spin-current is of central importance in spintronics. Here we propose a two-dimensional (2D) spin-battery system that delivers pure spin-current without an accompanying charge-current to the outside world at zero bias. The principle of the spin-battery roots in the photogalvanic effect (PGE), and the system has good operational stability against structural perturbation, photon energy and other materials detail. The device principle is numerically implemented in the 2D material phosphorene as an example, and first principles calculations give excellent qualitative agreement with the PGE physics. The 2D spin-battery is interesting as it is both a device that generates pure spin-currents, also an energy source that harvests photons. Given the versatile operational space, the spin-battery should be experimentally feasible.

Upgrade plans and ageing studies for the CMS muon system in preparation of HL-LHC

The CMS muon system operates gas-based detectors. Upgrades of the detectors and trigger components are needed to cope with increasingly challenging conditions of the HL-LHC. New irradiation tests are performed to ensure that the muon detectors will survive the harsher conditions and operate reliably. The new CERN GIF++ (Gamma Irradiation Facility) allowed to perform aging tests. We present results in terms of system performance under large backgrounds and after accelerated aging tests. New detectors will be added to improve the performance in the critical forward region: gas electron multiplier (GEM) detectors will be installed in LS2 in the region 1.6 $<$ $|η|$ $<$ 2.4, aiming at suppressing background triggers while maintaining high trigger efficiency. Further enhancements are foreseen with a second GEM station and with two stations of new generation RPCs, having low resistivity electrodes. These detectors will combine tracking and triggering capabilities and can stand particle rates up to few kHz/cm$^2$. In addition, to take advantage of the pixel tracking coverage extension, a new GEM detector covering up to $|η|$ = 2.8. is foreseen behind the new forward calorimeter.

Next-to-next-to-leading order $N$-jettiness soft function for $tW$ production

We calculate the $N$-jettiness soft function for $tW$ production up to next-to-next-to-leading order in QCD, which is an important ingredient of the $N$-jettiness subtraction method for predicting the differential cross sections of massive coloured particle productions. The divergent parts of the results have been checked using the renormalization group equations controlled by the soft anomalous dimension.

Cryo scanning transmission X-ray microscope optimized for spectrotomography

A cryo scanning transmission X-ray microscope, the cryo-STXM, has been designed and commissioned at the Canadian Light Source synchrotron. The instrument is designed to operate from 100 - 4000 eV (lambda = 12.4 - 0.31 nm). Users can insert a previously frozen sample, through a load lock, and rotate it plus minus 70 degrees in the beam to collect tomographic data sets. The sample can be maintained for extended periods at 92 K primarily to suppress radiation damage, and a pressure on the order of 10-9 Torr to suppress sample contamination. The achieved spatial resolution (30 nm) and spectral resolution (0.1 eV) are similar to other current soft X-ray STXMs, as demonstrated by measurements on known samples and test patterns. The data acquisition efficiency is significantly more favorable for both imaging and tomography. 2D images, 3D tomograms and 4D chemical maps of automotive hydrogen fuel cell thin sections are presented to demonstrate current performance and new capabilities, namely cryo-spectrotomography in the soft X-ray region.

Binary disorder in quantum Ising chains and induced Majorana zero modes

Dynamical structure factor (S(k,$ω$)) is calculated for the one-dimensional (1D) transverse field Ising model, and its recent extension to include a three spin term, with quenched binary disorder. We study the low energy modes for lattices as large as 256 sites. We show that the intense zero energy modes appear whenever the binary disorder straddles two different winding numbers. We argue that these are Majorana modes, which reside on the boundaries of the rare regions. The size distribution of Majorana pairs has a fractal behavior at the critical points. With the longer ranged interactions a spin glass transition is observed as well.

Anomalous dimension of subleading-power ${N}$-jet operators II

We continue the investigation of the anomalous dimension of subleading-power $N$-jet operators. In this paper, we focus on the operators with fermion number one in each collinear direction, corresponding to quark (antiquark) initiated jets in QCD. We investigate the renormalization effects induced by the soft loop and compute the one-loop mixing of time-ordered products involving power-suppressed SCET Lagrangian insertions into $N$-jet currents through soft loops. We discuss fermion number conservation in collinear directions and provide explicit results for the collinear anomalous dimension matrix of the currents. The Feynman rules for the power-suppressed SCET interactions in the position-space formalism are collected in an appendix.

Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control for a Platoon of Connected and Autonomous Vehicles Considering Dynamic Information Flow Topology

Vehicle-to-vehicle communications can be unreliable as interference causes communication failures. Thereby, the information flow topology for a platoon of Connected Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs) can vary dynamically. This limits existing Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control (CACC) strategies as most of them assume a fixed information flow topology (IFT). To address this problem, we introduce a CACC design that considers a dynamic information flow topology (CACC-DIFT) for CAV platoons. An adaptive Proportional-Derivative (PD) controller under a two-predecessor-following IFT is proposed to reduce the negative effects when communication failures occur. The PD controller parameters are determined to ensure the string stability of the platoon. Further, the designed controller also factors the performance of individual vehicles. Hence, when communication failure occurs, the system will switch to a certain type of CACC instead of degenerating to adaptive cruise control, which improves the control performance considerably. The effectiveness of the proposed CACC-DIFT is validated through numerical experiments based on NGSIM field data. Results indicate that the proposed CACC-DIFT design outperforms a CACC with a predetermined information flow topology.

Random conductance models with stable-like jumps: heat kernel estimates and Harnack inequalities

We establish two-sided heat kernel estimates for random conductance models with non-uniformly elliptic (possibly degenerate) stable-like jumps on graphs. These are long range counterparts of well known two-sided Gaussian heat kernel estimates by M.T. Barlow for nearest neighbor (short range) random walks on the supercritical percolation cluster. Unlike the cases for nearest neighbor conductance models, the idea through parabolic Harnack inequalities does not work, since even elliptic Harnack inequalities do not hold in the present setting. As an application, we establish the local limit theorem for the models.

Intrusion Prediction with System-call Sequence-to-Sequence Model

The advanced development of the Internet facilitates efficient information exchange while also been exploited by adversaries. Intrusion detection system (IDS) as an important defense component of network security has always been widely studied in security research. However, research on intrusion prediction, which is more critical for network security, is received less attention. We argue that the advanced anticipation and timely impede of invasion is more vital than simple alarms in security defenses. General research methods regarding prediction are analyzing short term of system-calls to predict forthcoming abnormal behaviors. In this paper we take advantages of the remarkable performance of recurrent neural networks (RNNs) in dealing with long sequential problem, introducing the sequence-to-sequence model into our intrusion prediction work. By semantic modeling system-calls we build a robust system-call sequence-to-sequence prediction model. With taking the system-call traces invoked during the program running as known prerequisite, our model predicts sequence of system-calls that is most likely to be executed in a near future period of time that enabled the ability of monitoring system status and prophesying the intrusion behaviors. Our experiments show that the predict method proposed in this paper achieved well prediction performance on ADFALD intrusion detection test data set. Moreover, the predicted sequence, combined with the known invoked traces of system, significantly improves the performance of intrusion detection verified on various classifiers.
