Quasinormal modes of a d-dimensional regular black hole featuring an integrable singularity

In this paper, we exhaustively investigate the quasinormal modes (QNMs) of a probe scalar field over a d-dimensional regular black hole (BH) characterized by the parameter A. The quasinormal frequencies (QNFs) exhibit different behaviors with respect to the parameter A for d = 4 and d > 4. Firstly, the trends of QNFs with respect to A exhibit completely opposite patterns for the case of d = 4 and d > 4. Secondly, in the 4-dimensional regular BH, a non-monotonic behavior with respect to A is observed in the imaginary part of the fundamental modes with vanishing angular quantum number. In contrast, this non-monotonic behavior only appears in the overtones when d > 4. Thirdly, an overtone outburst accompanied by an oscillatory patter is observed only in the case of d > 4, but not in d = 4.

Observational appearances of an inner extremal regular black hole illuminated by various accretion flows

This paper investigates the observational appearances of an inner extremal regular black hole(IERBH) illuminated by various types of accretion models. The study reveals that when the BH is illuminated by specific accretion flows, the effects of quantum gravity become more pronounced, significantly impacting key observational features such as the shadow radius, photon ring, and total observed intensity. Specifically, the introduction of a more realistic radially infalling spherical accretion flow further accentuates these differences. This dynamic flow results in a darker central region in the BH image due to the Doppler effect, which modulates the observed intensity based on the relative motion of the infalling matter. The shadow radius and total observed intensity are notably affected by the quantum correction parameters, providing additional signatures that distinguish regular BHs from their classical counterparts.

Probing Quantum Gravity Effects with Eccentric Extreme Mass-Ratio Inspirals

In this paper, we investigate the impact of loop quantum gravity (LQG) on extreme mass-ratio inspirals (EMRIs), and the results indicate that LQG effects cause the orbital decay to occur faster compared to the Schwarzschild case. Furthermore, we use the augmented analytic kludge approach to generate EMRI waveforms and study the LISA's capability to detect the LQG effect with faithfulness. Additionally, employing the Fisher information matrix method for parameter estimation, we estimate that after one year of observation, the uncertainty in $r_0$ reduces to approximately $6.59\times 10^{-4}$ with a signal-to-noise ratio of $49$.

Quasinormal modes and ringdown waveform of the Frolov black hole

In this paper we investigate scalar perturbation over a Frolov black hole (BH), which is a regular BH induced by the quantum gravity effect. The quasinormal frequencies of a scalar field always consistently reside in the lower half-plane, and the time-domain evolution of the field demonstrates a decaying behavior, with the late-time tail exhibiting a power-law pattern. These observations collectively suggest the stability of a Frolov BH against scalar perturbation. Additionally, our study reveals that the quantum gravity effect leads to slower decay modes. For the case of the angular quantum number $l=0$, the oscillation exhibits non-monotonic behavior with the quantum gravity parameter $α_0$. However, once $l\geq 1$, the angular quantum number surpasses the influence of the quantum gravity effect.

Gravitational waves with generalized holonomy corrections

The cosmological tensor perturbation equation with generalized holonomy corrections is derived in the framework of effective loop quantum gravity. This results in a generalized dispersion relation for gravitational waves, encompassing holonomy corrections. Furthermore, we conduct an examination of the constraint algebra concerning vector modes with generalized holonomy corrections. The requirement of anomaly cancellation for vector modes imposes constraints on the possible functional forms of the generalized holonomy corrections. What's more, we estimate the theoretical value of the effective graviton mass and discuss the potential detectability of this effective mass in future observations.

Images of hairy Reissner-Nordström black hole illuminated by static accretions

We investigate the shadow and optical appearance of the hairy Reissner-Nordström (RN) black hole illuminated by two toy models of static accretion. The hairy RN black hole was constructed in the gravitation decoupling approach to describe the deformation of a Schwarzschild black hole due to the inclusion of additional arbitrary source (scalar field, tensor field, fluidlike dark matter, etc). So it is characterized by the parameters: mass ($M$), deformation factor ($α$), electric charge ($Q$) and the additional hairy charge ($l_o$), differentiating from the case in RN black hole. Though the specific background theory that results in this hairy RN black hole is still tricky, here we shall focus on the novel observable features introduced by the hair of this black hole. First, we find that for the hairy RN black hole, the event horizon, radius of photon sphere and critical impact parameter all increase as the increasings of $Q$ and $l_o$, but decrease as $α$ grows. The three characterized parameters are found to have significant effects on the photon trajectories, shadows and images of hairy RN black hole surrounded by the static accretion disk and spherical accretion, respectively. Particularly, both $Q$ and $l_o$ have mutually reinforcing effects on the optical appearance and shadows of the hairy RN black hole, which implies that we may not distinguish the electric charge and hairy charge from the shadow and image of black hole in this scenario. Additionally, because of the competing effects of the charge parameters ($Q, l_o$) and the deviation parameter $α$ on the observed intensities of brightness, the optical appearance between the hairy RN black hole and RN black hole could have degeneracies, indicating the indistinguishability. Our current results contribute more to the phenomenal aspects which could be helpful to build the background theory of hairy RN black hole.

Quasinormal modes of a regular black hole with sub-Planckian curvature

This paper explores the properties of the quasinormal modes (QNMs) of a regular black hole(BH) characterized by a Minkowski core and sub-Planckian curvature. When focusing on a special case, this regular BH exhibits identical large-scale behavior with the Hayward BH and some loop quantum gravity corrected (LQG-corrected) BH. A notable characteristic of the QNMs in this regular BH is the pronounced outburst of overtones when compared to the Schwarzschild BH (SS-BH). This outburst can be attributed to the deviation from the SS-BH in the near-horizon geometry region due to the quantum gravity effect. Furthermore, we compare the QNM properties of the regular BH with those of the Hayward BH and the LQG-corrected BH. A similar phenomenon of overtone outburst is observed in the modes of the overtone. As a conclusion, the QNMs may be a powerful tool for detecting the quantum gravity effect and distinguishing different BH models.

Black holes with scalar hair: Extending from and beyond the Schwarzschild solution

We construct novel scalarized black hole (BH) solutions beyond the general relativity (GR) framework. These scalarized BH solutions are extended from the Schwarzschild one and the non-Schwarzschild one in the pure Einstein-Weyl gravity. By studying the BH entropy and free energy, we demonstrate that the scalarized BH extending from the Schwarzschild one exhibits thermodynamically preferred. We obtain these novel solutions by directly solving the full fourth-order equations of motion. This narrows the problematic solution space obtained by commonly adopted second-order reduction to physically valid spaces. Our findings also unveil the evasion of the no-hair theorem within the realm of higher-derivative gravity.

Constraints from Solar System tests on a covariant loop quantum black hole

Recently, a covariant spherically symmetric model of a black hole within the framework of loop quantum gravity (LQG), characterized by a quantum parameter $r_0$ or $λ$, has been proposed. To derive constraints on the LQG-corrected parameter, we explore observational constraints imposed on $r_0$ and $λ$ through investigations of the light deflection, the Shapiro time delay, the precession of perihelia, and the geodetic precession test. Among these constraints, the tightest one arises from the Shapiro time delay measured by the Cassini mission, yielding an upper constraint of approximately $10^{-5}$.

Quasinormal modes of quantum-corrected black holes

In this paper, we investigate the quasinormal mode (QNM) spectra for scalar perturbation over a quantum-corrected black hole (BH). The fundamental modes of this quantum-corrected BH exhibit two key properties. Firstly, there is a non-monotonic behavior concerning the quantum-corrected parameter for zero multipole number. Secondly, the quantum gravity effects result in slower decay modes. For higher overtones, a significant deviation becomes evident between the quasinormal frequencies (QNFs) of the quantum-corrected and Schwarzschild BHs. The intervention of quantum gravity corrections induces a significant outburst of overtones. This outburst of these overtones can be attributed to the distinctions near the event horizons between the Schwarzschild and quantum-corrected BHs. Therefore, overtones can serve as a means to probe physical phenomena or disparities in the vicinity of the event horizon.

Transport properties of a holographic model with novel gauge-axion coupling

We investigate the transport properties within a holographic model characterized by a novel gauge-axion coupling. A key innovation is the introduction of the direct coupling between axion fields, the antisymmetric tensor, and the gauge field in our bulk theory. This novel coupling term leads to the emergence of nondiagonal components in the conductivity tensor. An important characteristic is that the off-diagonal elements manifest antisymmetry. Remarkably, the conductivity behavior in this model akin to that of Hall conductivity. Additionally, this model can also achieve metal-insulator transition.

Peculiar properties in quasi-normal spectra from loop quantum gravity effect

We investigate the quasi-normal mode (QNM) spectra for scalar and electromagnetic fields over a covairant loop quantum gravity black hole (LQG-BH). For the fundamental modes, the LQG effect reduces the oscillations in the scalar field, however it induces stronger oscillations in the electromagnetic field, comparing to the classical case. Under the scalar field perturbation, the system enjoys faster decaying modes with more oscillations than the electromagnetic field. Some peculiar phenomena emerge in the QNM spectra with higher overtones. A notable feature is the substantial divergence observed in the first several overtones from their Schwarzschild counterparts, with this discrepancy magnifying as the overtone number increases. Another remarkable phenomenon in higher overtones is that the QNFs of the scalar field with $l=0$ exhibit an oscillatory behavior as the quantum parameter $r_0$ increases significantly. These oscillations intensify with the rising overtone number. We hypothesize that this oscillatory pattern may be associated with the extremal effect.

Diagnosing quantum phase transition via holographic entanglement entropy at finite temperature

We investigate the behavior of the holographic entanglement entropy (HEE) in proximity to the quantum critical points (QCPs) of the metal-insulator transition (MIT) in the Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton-axions (EMDA) model. Since both the metallic phase and the insulating phase are characterized by distinct IR geometries, we used to expect that the HEE itself characterizes the QCPs. This expectation is validated for certain cases, however, we make a noteworthy observation: for a specific scenario where $-1<γ\leq -1/3$, with $γ$ as a coupling parameter, it is not the HEE itself but rather the second-order derivative of HEE with respect to the lattice wave number that effectively characterizes quantum phase transitions (QPTs). This distinction arises due to the influence of thermal effects. These findings present novel insights into the interplay between HEE and QPTs in the context of the MIT, and have significant implications for studying QPTs at finite temperatures.

Mixed-state Entanglement for AdS Born-Infeld Theory

We study the mixed-state entanglement for AdS Born-Infeld (BI) theory. We calculate the mixed-state entanglement and investigate the relationship between it and the system parameters. We find that the holographic entanglement entropy (HEE) and mutual information (MI) exhibit monotonically increasing and decreasing behavior with BI factor $b$. However, the entanglement wedge cross-section (EWCS) exhibits a very rich set of phenomena about system parameters. EWCS always increases with $b$ when $b$ is small and then monotonically decreases with $b$. These behaviors suggest that increasing the BI factor, which is essentially enhancing the coupling between the background geometry and the transport properties can always enhance the EWCS. The coupling between the entanglement and the transport behaviors has also been studied in condensed matter theories and is important to construct a stable quantum circuit. We also provide analytical understanding of the above phenomenon. Furthermore, we have tested two additional BI-like models and find the universality of these results, suggesting the crucial role of the BI term in governing the interplay between nonlinear electromagnetic effects and entanglement.

Perturbations of massless external fields in Horndeski hairy black hole

In this paper, we study the propagations of external fields in Horndeski theory, including the scalar field, electromagnetic field and Dirac field. We extensively explore the quasinormal frequencies, time evolution, greybody factors and emission rates of those massless perturbing fields by solving the corresponding master equations in the Horndeski hairy black hole. With the use of both numerical and analytical methods, we disclose the competitive/promotional influences of the Horndeski hair, spin and quantum momentum number of the external fields on those phenomenal physics. Our results show that the Horndeski hairy black hole is stable under those perturbations. Moreover, a larger Horndeski hair could enhance the intensity of energy emission rate for Hawking radiation of various particles, indicating that comparing to the Schwarzschild black hole, the Horndeski hariy black hole could have longer or shorter lifetime depending on the sign of the Horndeski hair.

Holographic superfluid with gauge-axion coupling

We have constructed a holographic superfluid with gauge-axion coupling. Depending on whether the coupling is positive or negative, the system displays metallic or insulating behavior in its normal state. A significant feature of the system is the appearance of a mid-IR peak in the alternating current (AC) conductivity in a certain range of parameters. This peak arises due to competition between explicit symmetry breaking (ESB) and spontaneous symmetry breaking (SSB), which results in the presence of a pseudo-Goldstone mode. Moreover, a dip in low-frequency AC conductivity is observed, stemming from the excitation of the SSB Goldstone mode. In the superfluid phase, the effect of gauge-axion coupling on the condensation or superfluid energy gap is only amplified in the presence of strong momentum dissipation. Notably, for the case with negative gauge-axion coupling, a hard-gap-like behavior at low frequency and a pronounced peak at intermediate frequency are observed, indicating that the evolution of the superfluid component is distinct from that of positive coupling.

Images from disk and spherical accretions of hairy Schwarzschild black holes

A hairy Schwarzschild black hole describes the deformation of Schwarzschild black hole due to including additional sources. It is found that depending on the hairy parameters, the photons' configurations around this black hole can be classified into two cases, corresponding to the hairy Schwarzschild black hole with single photon sphere and double photon spheres, respectively. We focus on the shadows and images of the hairy Schwarzschild black hole under two types of static thin illuminations conditions: disk accretion and spherical accretion, respectively. Under both illuminations, the two hairy parameters ($α$ and $l_o$) have competitive effects on the shadow and optical appearance image of the hairy Schwarzschild black hole with single photon sphere. This means that even though the parameters have significant influences on the rings and shadows, its images with certain groups of $α$ and $l_o$ could be indistinguishable to that of Schwarzschild black hole, namely, the degeneracies of images raise between the hairy Schwarzschild black hole and Schwarzschild black hole. Moreover, the optical appearance image of the hairy Schwarzschild black hole with double photon spheres will exhibit new additional rings and accretion features, which {are not} present in the images of (hairy) Schwarzschild black hole with single photon sphere. Our theoretical studies on the rings and shadows provide a potential tool to differentiate the hairy Schwarzschild black hole with double photon spheres from Schwarzschild black hole, but they are not always helpful for the cases with single photon sphere due to the degeneracies.

Rings and images of Horndeski hairy black hole illuminated by various thin accretions

We analyze the light rays around a static hairy black hole in Horndeski gravity with the use of ray-tracing procedure. We find that a stronger Horndeski hairy parameter corresponds to larger photon sphere as well as critical impact parameter, and wider ranges of photon ring and lensed ring emissions. These influences can be robustly interpreted from the shape of the effective potential of the photon's radial motion. Based on the distribution of the light rays, we then investigate the optical appearances of the Horndeski hairy black hole surrounded by various thin accretions. Firstly, we consider that the Horndeski hairy black hole is illuminated by the optically and geometrically thin accretion disk. We carefully clarify the contributions from the direct, lensed ring and photon ring intensities to the total observed intensity via the transfer function, which is rarely discussed in this scenario. We find that the Horndeski hair has significant influences on both shadow size and distributions of direct, lensed ring and photon ring brightness in three standard emission profiles. As a result, the rings and images of Horndeski hairy black hole and the origination of their brightness differentiate from those of Schwarzschild black hole (SBH). Then, when the Horndeski hairy black hole is illuminated by thin spherical accretions, the hairy black hole's shadow surrounded by a bright ring is larger than that of SBH, but the brightness of ring is fainter. Similar to that of SBH, the size of hairy black hole shadow does not change as the radial moving of the spherical accretion, and the brightness for the infalling accretion is fainter than that for the static accretion due to the Doppler effect. Therefore, we argue that the black hole image consisting of the shadow and accretion construction could, in theory, reflect the observational differences between the Horndeski hairy black hole and SBH.
