Transport properties in the Horndeski holographic two-currents model

The transport features of the holographic two-currents model are investigated in the Horndeski gravity framework. This system displays metallic or insulating characteristics depending on whether the Horndeski coupling parameter $γ$ is negative or positive, but is unaffected by other system parameters such as the strength of the momentum dissipation $\hat{k}$, the doping $χ$ and the coupling between two gauge fields $θ$. Secondly, we demonstrate that the thermal conductivities are affected not only by the inherent properties of the black hole, but also by the model parameters. Furthermore, we are particularly interested in the Lorentz ratios' properties. As expected, the Wiedemann-Franz (WF) law is violated, as it is in the majority of holographic systems. Particularly intriguing is the fact that several Lorentz ratio bounds reported in the typical axions model still remain true in our current theories. We would like to highlight out, however, that the lower bound for $\hat{\bar{L}}_A$ is affected by the system parameters $χ$, $θ$ and $γ$, which differs from the case of the typical axions model.

Charge transport properties in a novel holographic quantum phase transition model

We investigate the features of charge transport in a novel holographic quantum phase transition (QPT) model with two metallic phases: normal metallic and novel metallic. The scaling behaviors of direct current (DC) resistivity and thermal conductivity at low temperatures in both metallic phases are numerically computed. The numerical results and the analytical ones governed by the near horizon geometry agree perfectly. Then, the features of low-frequency alternating current (AC) electric conductivity are systematically investigated. A remarkable characteristic is that the normal metallic phase is a coherent system, whereas the novel metallic phase is an incoherent system with non-vanishing intrinsic conductivity. Especially, in the novel metallic phase, the incoherent behavior becomes stronger when the strength of the momentum dissipation enhances.

Shadow revisiting and weak gravitational lensing with Chern-Simons modification

Dynamical Chern-Simons (dCS) gravity has been attracting plenty of attentions due to the fact that it is a parity-violating modified theory of gravity that corresponds to a well-posed effective field theory in weak coupling approximation. In particular, a rotating black hole in dCS gravity is in contrast to the general relativistic counterparts. In this paper, we revisit the shadow of analytical rotating black hole spacetime in dCS modified gravity, based on which we study the shadow observables, discuss the constraint on the model parameters from the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) observations, and analyze the real part of quasi-normal modes (QNMs) in the eikonal limit. In addition, we explore the deflection angle in weak gravitational field limit with the use of Gauss-Bonnet theorem. We find that the shadow related physics and the weak gravitational lensing effect are significantly influenced by the CS coupling, which could provide theoretical predictions for a future test of the dCS theory with EHT observations.

Quasinormal modes and Hawking radiation of a charged Weyl black hole

We investigate the scalar field system over a charged Weyl black hole, depicted by a parameter $λ$. It is found that the imaginary part of the quasinormal mode spectra is always negative and the perturbation does not increase with the time, indicating that the system is stable under scalar field perturbation. Furthermore, the quasinormal mode spectra and Hawking radiation exhibit a qualitatively similar characteristic in that they both rise with rising $λ$ and approach a constant when $λ$ is large enough. Especially, we would like to emphasize that an exponential decay obviously emerges in the phase of the ringing tail as $λ$ increases. It indicates that the characteristic parameter $λ$ has an obvious imprint on the ringing tail, which is expected to be detected by future observations.

Instability of de-Sitter black hole with massive scalar field coupled to Gauss-Bonnet invariant and the scalarized black holes

The black hole scalarization in a special Einstein-scalar-Gauss-Bonnet (EsGB) gravity has been widely investigated in recent years. Especially, the spontaneous scalarization of scalar-free black hole in de-Sitter (dS) spacetime possesses interesting features due to the existence of cosmological horizon. In this work, firstly, we focus on the massive scalar field perturbation on Schwarzschild dS (SdS) black hole in a special EsGB theory. By analyzing the fundamental QNM frequency and time evolution of the scalar field perturbation, we figure out the unstable/stable regions in $(Λ,α)$-plane as well as in $(m,α)$-plane for various perturbation modes, where $Λ$, $α$ and $m$ denote the cosmological constant, the GB coupling strength and the mass of scalar field, respectively. Then by solving the static perturbation equation, we analyze the bifurcation point at which the SdS black hole supports spherical scalar clouds, and we find that the bifurcation points match well with $α_c$ on the border of unstable/stable region. Finally, after addressing that the scalarised solutions could only emerge from the scalar could with node $k\geq 1$. we explicitly construct the scalarized hairy solutions for different scalar masses and compare the profile of scalar field to the corresponding scalar clouds.

A novel holographic quantum phase transition and butterfly velocity

In this paper, we make a systematical and in-depth exploration on the phase structure and the behaviors of butterfly velocity in an Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton-axions (EMDA) model. Depending on the model parameter, there are two kinds of mechanisms driving quantum phase transition (QPT) in this model. One is the infrared (IR) geometry to be renormalization group (RG) unstable, and the other is the strength of lattice deformation leading to some kind of bifurcating solution. We also find a novel QPT in the metal phases. The study on the behavior of the butterfly velocity crossing QPT indicates that the butterfly velocity or its first derivative exhibiting local extreme depends on the QPT mechanism. Further, the scaling behaviors of the butterfly velocity in the zero-temperature limit confirm that different phases are controlled by different IR geometries. Therefore, the butterfly velocity is a good probe to QPT and it also provides a possible way to study QPT beyond holography.

Transport properties of a $3$-dimensional holographic effective theory with gauge-axion coupling

In this paper, we implement a $3$-dimensional holographic effective theory with gauge-axion coupling. The analytical black hole solution is worked out. We investigate the Direct current (DC) thermoelectric conductivities. A novel property is that DC electric conductivity for vanishing gauge-axion coupling is temperature dependent. It is different from that of $4$-dimensional axion model whose DC electric conductivity is temperature independent. In addition, the gauge-axion coupling induces a metal insulator transition (MIT) at zero temperature. The properties of other DC thermoelectric conductivities are also discussed. Moreover we find that the Wiedemann-Franz (WF) law is violated in our model.

Chaotic dynamics of string around the conformal black hole

In this paper, we make a systematical and in-depth study on the chaotic dynamics of the string around the conformal black hole. Depending on the characteristic parameter of the conformal black hole and the initial position of the string, there are three kinds of dynamical behaviors: ordered, chaotic and being captured, chaotic but not being captured. A particular interesting observation is that there is a sharp transition in chaotic dynamics when the black hole horizon disappears, which is indepent of the initial position of the string. It provides a possible way to probe the horizon structure of the massive body. We also examine the generalized MSS (Maldacena, Shenker and Stanford) inequality, which is proposed in holographic dual field theory, and find that the generalized MSS inequality holds even in the asymptotically flat black hole background. Especially, as the initial position of the string approaches the black hole horizon, the Lyapunov exponent also approaches the upper bound of the generalized MSS inequality.

Dynamic Properties of Two-Dimensional Latticed Holographic System

We study the anisotropic properties of dynamical quantities: direct current (DC) conductivity, butterfly velocity, and charge diffusion. The anisotropy plays a crucial role in determining the phase structure of the two-lattice system. Even a small deviation from isotropy can lead to distinct phase structures, as well as the IR fixed points of our holographic systems. In particular, for anisotropic cases, the most important property is that the IR fixed point can be non-AdS$_2 \times \mathbb R^2$ even for metallic phases. As that of a one-lattice system, the butterfly velocity and the charge diffusion can also diagnose the quantum phase transition (QPT) in this two-dimensional anisotropic latticed system.

Alternating current conductivity and superconducting properties of the holographic effective theory

We construct a holographic effective superconducting theory by considering a special gauge-axion higher derivative term. The gauge-axion coupling results in the transport behavior similar to the vortex response in the dual boundary field theory leading to non-Drude behavior of alternating current (AC) conductivity at the weak momentum dissipation. With the momentum dissipation increasing, a dip exhibits in the AC conductivity at low frequency. It is thought to be the result of a combination of the strong momentum dissipation and the gauge-axion coupling. In the superconducting phase, this gauge-axion coupling also plays a key role leading to a more evident gap at the low frequency conductivity. In addition, we also study the combined effects of the strength of momentum dissipation and various couplings among the gauge field, axion fields and the complex scalar field.

Complexity growth of massive black hole with a probe string

In this work, we study the computational complexity of massive gravity theory via the "Complexity = Action" conjecture. Our system contains a particle moving on the boundary of the black hole spacetime. It is dual to inserting a fundamental string in the bulk background. Then this string would contribute a Nambu-Goto term, such that the total action is composed of the Einstein-Hilbert term, Nambu-Goto term and the boundary term. We shall investigate the time development of this system, and mainly discuss the features of the Nambu-Goto term affected by the graviton mass and the horizon curvature in different dimensions. Our study could contribute interesting properties of complexity.

Informational properties of holographic Lifshitz field theory

In this paper, we explore the properties of holographic entanglement entropy (HEE), mutual information (MI) and entanglement of purification (EoP) in holographic Lifshitz theory. These informational quantities exhibit some universal properties of holographic dual field theory. For most configuration parameters and temperatures, these informational quantities change monotonously with the Lifshitz dynamical critical exponent $z$. However, we also observe some non-monotonic behaviors for these informational quantities in some specific spaces of configuration parameters and temperatures. A particularly interesting phenomenon is that a dome-shaped diagram emerges in the behavior of MI vs $z$, and correspondingly a trapezoid-shaped profile appears in that of EoP vs $z$. This means that for some specific configuration parameters and temperatures, the system measured in terms of MI and EoP is entangled only in a certain intermediate range of $z$.

Holographic p-wave superconductivity from higher derivative theory

We construct a holographic SU(2) p-wave superconductor model with Weyl corrections. The high derivative (HD) terms do not seem to spoil the generation of the p-wave superconducting phase. We mainly study the properties of AC conductivity, which is absent in holographic SU(2) p-wave superconductor with Weyl corrections. The conductivities in superconducting phase exhibit obvious anisotropic behaviors. Along $y$ direction, the conductivity $σ_{yy}$ is similar to that of holographic s-wave superconductor. The superconducting energy gap exhibits a wide extension. For the conductivity $σ_{xx}$ along $x$ direction, the behaviors of the real part in the normal state are closely similar to that of $σ_{yy}$. However, the anisotropy of the conductivity obviously shows up in the superconducting phase. A Drude-like peak at low frequency emerges in $Reσ_{xx}$ once the system enters into the superconducting phase, regardless of the behaviors in normal state.

On an alternative mechanism for the black hole echoes

Gravitational wave echoes from the black holes have been suggested as a crucial observable to probe the spacetime in the vicinity of the horizon. In particular, it was speculated that the echoes are closely connected with specific characteristics of the exotic compact objects, and moreover, possibly provide an access to the quantum nature of gravity. Recently, it was shown that the discontinuity in the black hole metric substantially modifies the asymptotical behavior of quasinormal frequencies. In the present study, we proceed further and argue that a discontinuity planted into the metric furnishes an alternative mechanism for the black hole echoes. Physically, the latter may correspond to an uneven matter distribution inside the surrounding halo. To demonstrate the results, we first numerically investigate the temporal evolution of the scalar perturbations around a black hole that possesses a nonsmooth effective potential. It is shown that the phenomenon persists even though the discontinuity can be located further away from the horizon with rather insignificant strength. Besides, we show that the echoes in the present model can be derived analytically based on the modified pole structure of the associated Green function. The asymptotical properties of the quasinormal mode spectrum and the echoes are found to be closely connected, as both features can be attributed to the same origin. In particular, the period of the echoes in the time domain $T$ is shown to be related to the asymptotic spacing between successive poles along the real axis in the frequency domain $Δ(\Reω)$, by a simple relation $\lim\limits_{\Reω\to+\infty}Δ(\Reω) = 2π/T$. Moreover, we discuss possible distinguishment between different echo mechanisms. The potential astrophysical implications of the present findings are also addressed.

Dynamics of k-essence in loop quantum cosmology

In this paper, we study the dynamics of k-essence in loop quantum cosmology (LQC). The study indicates that the loop quantum gravity (LQG) effect plays a key role only in the early epoch of the universe and is diluted at the later stage. The fixed points in LQC are basically consistent with that in standard Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) cosmology. For most of the attractor solutions, the stability conditions in LQC are in agreement with that for the standard FRW universe. But for some special fixed point, more tighter constraints are imposed thanks to the LQG effect.

Echoes from phantom wormholes

We study the time evolution of the test scalar and electromagnetic fields perturbations in configurations of phantom wormholes surrounded by dark energy with state parameter $ω< -1$. We observe obvious signals of echoes reflecting wormholes properties and disclose the physical reasons behind such phenomena. In particular, we find that the dark energy equation of state has a clear imprint in echoes in wave perturbations. When $ω$ approaches the phantom divide $ω=-1$ from below, the delay time of echoes becomes longer. The echo of gravitational wave is likely to be detected in the near future, the signature of the dark energy equation of state in the echo spectrum can serve as a local measurement of the dark energy.

On quasinormal frequencies of black hole perturbations with an external source

In the study of perturbations around black hole configurations, whether an external source can influence the perturbation behavior is an interesting topic to investigate. When the source acts as an initial pulse, it is intuitively acceptable that the existing quasinormal frequencies will remain unchanged. However, the confirmation of such an intuition is not trivial for the rotating black hole, since the eigenvalues in the radial and angular parts of the master equations are coupled. We show that for the rotating black holes, a moderate source term in the master equation in the Laplace s-domain does not modify the quasinormal modes. Furthermore, we generalize our discussions to the case where the external source serves as a driving force. Different from an initial pulse, an external source may further drive the system to experience new perturbation modes. To be specific, novel dissipative singularities might be brought into existence and enrich the pole structure. This is a physically relevant scenario, due to its possible implication in modified gravity. Our arguments are based on exploring the pole structure of the solution in the Laplace s-domain with the presence of the external source. The analytical analyses are verified numerically by solving the inhomogeneous differential equation and extracting the dominant complex frequencies by employing the Prony method.

Spontaneous Holographic Scalarization of Black Holes in Einstein-Scalar-Gauss-Bonnet Theories

We holographically investigate the scalarization in the Einstein-Scalar-Gauss-Bonnet gravity with a negative cosmological constant. We find that instability exists for both Schwarzschild-AdS and Reissner-Nordstrom-AdS black holes with planar horizons when we have proper interactions between the scalar field and the Gauss-Bonnet curvature corrections. We relate such instability to possible holographic scalarization and construct the corresponding hairy black hole solutions in the presence of the cosmological constant. Employing the holographic principle we expect that such bulk scalarization corresponds to the boundary description of the scalar hair condensation without breaking any symmetry, and we calculate the related holographic entanglement entropy of the system. Moreover, we compare the mechanisms of the holographic scalarizations caused by the effect of the coupling of the scalar field to the Gauss-Bonnet term and holographic superconductor effect in the presence of an electromagnetic field, and unveil their differences in the effective mass of the scalar field, the temperature dependent property and the optical conductivity.
