Additive Property of Drazin Invertibility of Elements

In this article, we investigate additive properties of the Drazin inverse of elements in rings and algebras over an arbitrary field. Under the weakly commutative condition of $ab = λba$, we show that $a-b$ is Drazin invertible if and only if $aa^{D}(a-b)bb^{D}$ is Drazin invertible. Next, we give explicit representations of $(a+b)^{D}$, as a function of $a, b, a^{D}$ and $b^{D}$, under the conditions $a^{3}b = ba$ and $b^{3}a = ab$.

Stability of Gorenstein flat categories with respect to a semidualizing module

In this paper, we first introduce $\mathcal {W}_F$-Gorenstein modules to establish the following Foxby equivalence: $\xymatrix@C=80pt{\mathcal {G}(\mathcal {F})\cap \mathcal {A}_C(R) \ar@<0.5ex>[r]^{C\otimes_R-} & \mathcal {G}(\mathcal {W}_F) \ar@<0.5ex>[l]^{\textrm{Hom}_R(C,-)}} $ where $\mathcal {G}(\mathcal {F})$, $\mathcal {A}_C(R) $ and $\mathcal {G}(\mathcal {W}_F)$ denote the class of Gorenstein flat modules, the Auslander class and the class of $\mathcal {W}_F$-Gorenstein modules respectively. Then, we investigate two-degree $\mathcal {W}_F$-Gorenstein modules. An $R$-module $M$ is said to be two-degree $\mathcal {W}_F$-Gorenstein if there exists an exact sequence $\mathbb{G}_\bullet=\indent ...\longrightarrow G_1\longrightarrow G_0\longrightarrow G^0\longrightarrow G^1\longrightarrow...$ in $\mathcal {G}(\mathcal {W}_F)$ such that $M \cong$ $\im(G_0\rightarrow G^0) $ and that $\mathbb{G}_\bullet$ is Hom$_R(\mathcal {G}(\mathcal {W}_F),-)$ and $\mathcal {G}(\mathcal {W}_F)^+\otimes_R-$ exact. We show that two notions of the two-degree $\mathcal {W}_F$-Gorenstein and the $\mathcal {W}_F$-Gorenstein modules coincide when R is a commutative GF-closed ring.

Two questions of L. Va${\rm \check{\textbf{s}}}$ on *-clean rings

A ring $R$ with an involution * is called (strongly) *-clean if every element of $R$ is the sum of a unit and a projection (that commute). All *-clean rings are clean. Va${\rm \check{s}}$ [L. Va${\rm \check{s}}$, *-Clean rings; some clean and almost clean Baer *-rings and von Neumann algebras, J. Algebra 324 (12) (2010) 3388-3400] asked whether there exists a *-ring that is clean but not *-clean and whether a unit regular and *-regular ring is strongly *-clean. In this paper, we answer both questions by several examples. Moreover, some characterizations of unit regular and *-regular rings are provided.

On countably $Σ$-C2 rings

Let $R$ be a ring. $R$ is called a right countably $Σ$-C2 ring if every countable direct sum copies of $R_{R}$ is a C2 module. The following are equivalent for a ring $R$: (1) $R$ is a right countably $Σ$-C2 ring. (2) The column finite matrix ring $\mathbb{C}\mathbb{F}\mathbb{M}_{\mathbb{N}}(R)$ is a right C2 (or C3) ring. (3) Every countable direct sum copies of $R_{R}$ is a C3 module. (4) Every projective right $R$-module is a C2 (or C3) module. (5) $R$ is a right perfect ring and every finite direct sum copies of $R_{R}$ is a C2 (or C3) module. This shows that right countably $Σ$-C2 rings are just the rings whose right finitistic projective dimension r$FPD(R)$=sup\{$Pd_{R}(M)|$ $M$ is a right $R$-module with $Pd_{R}(M)<\infty$\}=0, which were introduced by Hyman Bass in 1960.

Extensions of McCoy Rings

A ring $R$ is said to be right McCoy if the equation $f(x)g(x)=0,$ where $f(x)$ and $g(x)$ are nonzero polynomials of $R[x],$ implies that there exists nonzero $s \in R$ such that $f(x)s = 0$. It is proven that no proper (triangular) matrix ring is one-sided McCoy. If there exists the classical right quotient ring $Q$ of a ring $R$, then $R$ is right McCoy if and only if $Q$ is right McCoy. It is shown that for many polynomial extensions, a ring $R$ is right McCoy if and only if the polynomial extension over $R$ is right McCoy. Other basic extensions of right McCoy rings are also studied.\leftskip0truemm \rightskip0truemm \{\it Keywords}: matrix ring, McCoy ring, polynomial ring, upper triangular matrix ring.

2-clean rings

A ring $R$ is said to be $n$-clean if every element can be written as a sum of an idempotent and $n$ units. The class of these rings contains clean ring and $n$-good rings in which each element is a sum of $n$ units. In this paper, we show that for any ring $R$, the endomorphism ring of a free $R$-module of rank at least 2 is 2-clean and that the ring $B(R)$ of all $ω\times ω$ row and column-finite matrices over any ring $R$ is 2-clean. Finally, the group ring $RC_{n}$ is considered where $R$ is a local ring. \vskip 0.5cm {\bf Key words:}\quad 2-clean rings, 2-good rings, free modules, row and column-finite matrix rings, group rings.

Strongly Goldie Dimension

Let $R$ be an associative ring with identity. A unital right $R$-module $M$ is called strongly finite dimensional if Sup$\{{\rm G.dim} (M/N) | N\leq M\} < +\infty$. Properties of strongly finite dimensional modules are explored. It is also proved that: (1)If $R$ is left $F$-injective and strongly right finite dimensional, then $R$ is left finite dimensional. (2) If $R$ is right $F$-injective, then $R$ is right finite dimensional if and only if $R$ is semilocal. Thus the Faith-Menal conjecture is true if $R$ is strongly right finite dimensional. Some known results are obtained as corollaries.

Small Injective Rings

Let $R$ be a ring, a right ideal $I$ of $R$ is called small if for every proper right ideal $K$ of $R$, $I+K\neq R$. A ring $R$ is called right small injective if every homomorphism from a small right ideal to $R_{R}$ can be extended to an $R$-homomorphism from $R_{R}$ to $R_{R}$. Properties of small injective rings are explored and several new characterizations are given for $QF$ rings and $PF$ rings, respectively.

A Note on Quasi-Frobenius Rings

The Faith-Menal conjecture says that every strongly right $Johns$ ring is $QF$. The conjecture is also equivalent to say every right noetherian left $FP$-injective ring is $QF$. In this short article, we show that the conjecture is true under the condition(a proper generalization of left $CS$ condition)that every nonzero complement left ideal is not small(a left ideal $I$ is called small if for every left ideal $K$, $K$+$I$=$R$ implies $K$=$R$). It is also proved that (1) $R$ is $QF$ if and only if $R$ is a left and right mininjective ring with $ACC$ on right annihilators in which $S_{r}\subseteq ^{ess}R_{R}$; (2) $R$ is $QF$ if and only if $R$ is a right simple injective ring with $ACC$ on right annihilators in which $S_{r}\subseteq ^{ess}R_{R}$. Several known results on $QF$ rings are obtained as corollaries.
