TeraSim: Uncovering Unknown Unsafe Events for Autonomous Vehicles through Generative Simulation

Traffic simulation is essential for autonomous vehicle (AV) development, enabling comprehensive safety evaluation across diverse driving conditions. However, traditional rule-based simulators struggle to capture complex human interactions, while data-driven approaches often fail to maintain long-term behavioral realism or generate diverse safety-critical events. To address these challenges, we propose TeraSim, an open-source, high-fidelity traffic simulation platform designed to uncover unknown unsafe events and efficiently estimate AV statistical performance metrics, such as crash rates. TeraSim is designed for seamless integration with third-party physics simulators and standalone AV stacks, to construct a complete AV simulation system. Experimental results demonstrate its effectiveness in generating diverse safety-critical events involving both static and dynamic agents, identifying hidden deficiencies in AV systems, and enabling statistical performance evaluation. These findings highlight TeraSim's potential as a practical tool for AV safety assessment, benefiting researchers, developers, and policymakers. The code is available at https://github.com/mcity/TeraSim.

Federated Learning for Cross-Domain Data Privacy: A Distributed Approach to Secure Collaboration

This paper proposes a data privacy protection framework based on federated learning, which aims to realize effective cross-domain data collaboration under the premise of ensuring data privacy through distributed learning. Federated learning greatly reduces the risk of privacy breaches by training the model locally on each client and sharing only model parameters rather than raw data. The experiment verifies the high efficiency and privacy protection ability of federated learning under different data sources through the simulation of medical, financial, and user data. The results show that federated learning can not only maintain high model performance in a multi-domain data environment but also ensure effective protection of data privacy. The research in this paper provides a new technical path for cross-domain data collaboration and promotes the application of large-scale data analysis and machine learning while protecting privacy.

A Deep Learning Approach to Anomaly Detection in High-Frequency Trading Data

This paper proposes an algorithm based on a staged sliding window Transformer architecture to detect abnormal behaviors in the microstructure of the foreign exchange market, focusing on high-frequency EUR/USD trading data. The method captures multi-scale temporal features through a staged sliding window, extracts global and local dependencies by combining the self-attention mechanism and weighted attention mechanism of the Transformer, and uses a classifier to identify abnormal events. Experimental results on a real high-frequency dataset containing order book depth, spread, and trading volume show that the proposed method significantly outperforms traditional machine learning (such as decision trees and random forests) and deep learning methods (such as MLP, CNN, RNN, LSTM) in terms of accuracy (0.93), F1-Score (0.91), and AUC-ROC (0.95). Ablation experiments verify the contribution of each component, and the visualization of order book depth and anomaly detection further reveals the effectiveness of the model under complex market dynamics. Despite the false positive problem, the model still provides important support for market supervision. In the future, noise processing can be optimized and extended to other markets to improve generalization and real-time performance.

A Retrieval-Augmented Knowledge Mining Method with Deep Thinking LLMs for Biomedical Research and Clinical Support

Knowledge graphs and large language models (LLMs) are key tools for biomedical knowledge integration and reasoning, facilitating structured organization of scientific articles and discovery of complex semantic relationships. However, current methods face challenges: knowledge graph construction is limited by complex terminology, data heterogeneity, and rapid knowledge evolution, while LLMs show limitations in retrieval and reasoning, making it difficult to uncover cross-document associations and reasoning pathways. To address these issues, we propose a pipeline that uses LLMs to construct a biomedical knowledge graph (BioStrataKG) from large-scale articles and builds a cross-document question-answering dataset (BioCDQA) to evaluate latent knowledge retrieval and multi-hop reasoning. We then introduce Integrated and Progressive Retrieval-Augmented Reasoning (IP-RAR) to enhance retrieval accuracy and knowledge reasoning. IP-RAR maximizes information recall through Integrated Reasoning-based Retrieval and refines knowledge via Progressive Reasoning-based Generation, using self-reflection to achieve deep thinking and precise contextual understanding. Experiments show that IP-RAR improves document retrieval F1 score by 20\% and answer generation accuracy by 25\% over existing methods. This framework helps doctors efficiently integrate treatment evidence for personalized medication plans and enables researchers to analyze advancements and research gaps, accelerating scientific discovery and decision-making.

UniHDSA: A Unified Relation Prediction Approach for Hierarchical Document Structure Analysis

Document structure analysis, aka document layout analysis, is crucial for understanding both the physical layout and logical structure of documents, serving information retrieval, document summarization, knowledge extraction, etc. Hierarchical Document Structure Analysis (HDSA) specifically aims to restore the hierarchical structure of documents created using authoring software with hierarchical schemas. Previous research has primarily followed two approaches: one focuses on tackling specific subtasks of HDSA in isolation, such as table detection or reading order prediction, while the other adopts a unified framework that uses multiple branches or modules, each designed to address a distinct task. In this work, we propose a unified relation prediction approach for HDSA, called UniHDSA, which treats various HDSA sub-tasks as relation prediction problems and consolidates relation prediction labels into a unified label space. This allows a single relation prediction module to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, whether at a page-level or document-level structure analysis. To validate the effectiveness of UniHDSA, we develop a multimodal end-to-end system based on Transformer architectures. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that our approach achieves state-of-the-art performance on a hierarchical document structure analysis benchmark, Comp-HRDoc, and competitive results on a large-scale document layout analysis dataset, DocLayNet, effectively illustrating the superiority of our method across all sub-tasks. The Comp-HRDoc benchmark and UniHDSA's configurations are publicly available at https://github.com/microsoft/CompHRDoc.

Cascaded Self-Evaluation Augmented Training for Lightweight Multimodal LLMs

Efficient Multimodal Large Language Models (EMLLMs) can improve performance through Chain-of-Thought (CoT) reasoning, but they have poor self-evaluation capabilities during the CoT reasoning process. This is due to their tendency to simplify the reasoning process and the degradation of self-evaluation ability during downstream task fine-tuning. To address this, we intuitively propose \textit{Self-Evaluation Augmented Training (SEAT)}, which uses more powerful EMLLMs to evaluate CoT reasoning data. The evaluation data is then used to train EMLLMs. However, due to the difficulties EMLLMs face with processing long token input-output sequences, and the degradation of self-evaluation ability as a basis for CoT reasoning, the SEAT method is not fully adapted. Therefore, we further propose \textit{Cascaded Self-Evaluation Augmented Training (Cas-SEAT)}, which converts long prompts into cascaded short prompts, each focusing on a specific task. Additionally, we mix CoT reasoning and self-evaluation data to preserve its CoT reasoning ability while enhancing the self-evaluation capability of EMLLMs. We also conduct \textit{Double-level Data Filtering (DDF)}, which includes source data filtering and labeled data filtering, using both manual selection and MLLMs for filtering. Cas-SEAT and DDF work together to improve the performance of EMLLMs. Experiments show that Cas-SEAT achieves an average improvement of 22.16% across multiple datasets, and DDF significantly reduces the resource consumption of training

DependEval: Benchmarking LLMs for Repository Dependency Understanding

While large language models (LLMs) have shown considerable promise in code generation, real-world software development demands advanced repository-level reasoning. This includes understanding dependencies, project structures, and managing multi-file changes. However, the ability of LLMs to effectively comprehend and handle complex code repositories has yet to be fully explored. To address challenges, we introduce a hierarchical benchmark designed to evaluate repository dependency understanding (DependEval). Benchmark is based on 15,576 repositories collected from real-world websites. It evaluates models on three core tasks: Dependency Recognition, Repository Construction, and Multi-file Editing, across 8 programming languages from actual code repositories. Our evaluation of over 25 LLMs reveals substantial performance gaps and provides valuable insights into repository-level code understanding.

Digital Player: Evaluating Large Language Models based Human-like Agent in Games

With the rapid advancement of Large Language Models (LLMs), LLM-based autonomous agents have shown the potential to function as digital employees, such as digital analysts, teachers, and programmers. In this paper, we develop an application-level testbed based on the open-source strategy game "Unciv", which has millions of active players, to enable researchers to build a "data flywheel" for studying human-like agents in the "digital players" task. This "Civilization"-like game features expansive decision-making spaces along with rich linguistic interactions such as diplomatic negotiations and acts of deception, posing significant challenges for LLM-based agents in terms of numerical reasoning and long-term planning. Another challenge for "digital players" is to generate human-like responses for social interaction, collaboration, and negotiation with human players. DeepSeek-V3 Technical Report

We present DeepSeek-V3, a strong Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) language model with 671B total parameters with 37B activated for each token. To achieve efficient inference and cost-effective training, DeepSeek-V3 adopts Multi-head Latent Attention (MLA) and DeepSeekMoE architectures, which were thoroughly validated in DeepSeek-V2. Furthermore, DeepSeek-V3 pioneers an auxiliary-loss-free strategy for load balancing and sets a multi-token prediction training objective for stronger performance. We pre-train DeepSeek-V3 on 14.8 trillion diverse and high-quality tokens, followed by Supervised Fine-Tuning and Reinforcement Learning stages to fully harness its capabilities. Comprehensive evaluations reveal that DeepSeek-V3 outperforms other open-source models and achieves performance comparable to leading closed-source models. Despite its excellent performance, DeepSeek-V3 requires only 2.788M H800 GPU hours for its full training. In addition, its training process is remarkably stable. Throughout the entire training process, we did not experience any irrecoverable loss spikes or perform any rollbacks. The model checkpoints are available at https://github.com/deepseek-ai/DeepSeek-V3.

Incompressible Limit of Compressible Ideal MHD Flows inside a Perfectly Conducting Wall

We prove the incompressible limit of compressible ideal magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) flows in a reference domain where the magnetic field is tangential to the boundary. Unlike the case of transversal magnetic fields, the linearized problem of our case is not well-posed in standard Sobolev space $H^m~(m\geq 2)$, while the incompressible problem is still well-posed in $H^m$. The key observation to overcome the difficulty is a hidden structure contributed by Lorentz force in the vorticity analysis, which reveals that one should trade one normal derivative for two tangential derivatives together with a gain of Mach number weight $\varepsilon^2$. Thus, the energy functional should be defined by using suitable anisotropic Sobolev spaces. The weights of Mach number should be carefully chosen according to the number of tangential derivatives, such that the energy estimates are uniform in Mach number. Besides, part of the proof is similar to the study of compressible water waves, so our result opens the possibility to study the incompressible limit of free-boundary problems in ideal MHD.

Asymptotical Behavior of Global Solutions of the Navier-Stokes-Korteweg Equations with Respect to Capillarity Number at Infinity

Vanishing capillarity in the Navier-Stokes-Korteweg (NSK) equations has been widely investigated, in particular, it is well-known that the NSK equations converge to the Navier-Stokes (NS) equations by vanishing capillarity number. To our best knowledge, this paper first investigates the behavior of large capillary number, denoted by $κ^2$, for the global(-in-time) strong solutions with small initial perturbations of the three-dimensional (3D) NSK equations in a slab domain with Navier(-slip) boundary condition. Under the well-prepared initial data, we can construct a family of global strong solutions of the 3D incompressible NSK equations with respect to $κ>0$, where the solutions converge to a unique solution of 2D incompressible NS-like equations as $κ$ goes to infinity.

Tarsier2: Advancing Large Vision-Language Models from Detailed Video Description to Comprehensive Video Understanding

We introduce Tarsier2, a state-of-the-art large vision-language model (LVLM) designed for generating detailed and accurate video descriptions, while also exhibiting superior general video understanding capabilities. Tarsier2 achieves significant advancements through three key upgrades: (1) Scaling pre-training data from 11M to 40M video-text pairs, enriching both volume and diversity; (2) Performing fine-grained temporal alignment during supervised fine-tuning; (3) Using model-based sampling to automatically construct preference data and applying DPO training for optimization. Extensive experiments show that Tarsier2-7B consistently outperforms leading proprietary models, including GPT-4o and Gemini 1.5 Pro, in detailed video description tasks. On the DREAM-1K benchmark, Tarsier2-7B improves F1 by 2.8% over GPT-4o and 5.8% over Gemini-1.5-Pro. In human side-by-side evaluations, Tarsier2-7B shows a +8.6% performance advantage over GPT-4o and +24.9% over Gemini-1.5-Pro. Tarsier2-7B also sets new state-of-the-art results across 15 public benchmarks, spanning tasks such as video question-answering, video grounding, hallucination test, and embodied question-answering, demonstrating its versatility as a robust generalist vision-language model.

CausalMob: Causal Human Mobility Prediction with LLMs-derived Human Intentions toward Public Events

Large-scale human mobility exhibits spatial and temporal patterns that can assist policymakers in decision making. Although traditional prediction models attempt to capture these patterns, they often interfered by non-periodic public events, such as disasters and occasional celebrations. Since regular human mobility patterns are heavily affected by these events, estimating their causal effects is critical to accurate mobility predictions. Although news articles provide unique perspectives on these events in an unstructured format, processing is a challenge. In this study, we propose a causality-augmented prediction model, called CausalMob, to analyze the causal effects of public events. We first utilize large language models (LLMs) to extract human intentions from news articles and transform them into features that act as causal treatments. Next, the model learns representations of spatio-temporal regional covariates from multiple data sources to serve as confounders for causal inference. Finally, we present a causal effect estimation framework to ensure event features remain independent of confounders during prediction. Based on large-scale real-world data, the experimental results show that the proposed model excels in human mobility prediction, outperforming state-of-the-art models.

Topological invariant of non-Hermitian space-time modulated photonic crystals

We propose a medium transformation approach to formulate the adjoint system of space-time modulated photonic crystals (STMPCs), essential for the bi-orthogonal Berry connection when calculating the topological invariant. We show that the non-Abelian Zak phase of STMPCs comprising stacked photonic time crystals and dielectrics is quantized to 0 or 1 for both the entangled and isolated bands. We find that the eigenmodes at the center and edge of the Brillouin zone differ in symmetry for the band with non-trivial Zak phases, while they share the same symmetry for the trivial Zak phases. In addition, topological phase transitions owing to band inversion are observed. Moreover, a generalized Brillouin zone of the non-Hermitian STMPCs is established, which is identical to the Hermitian counterpart, implicating that the non-Bloch band theory is not required in this regard. The proposed medium transformation method may serve as an alternative approach to exploring more intricate topological phenomena in non-Hermitian systems when incorporating non-Bloch band theory.

Uniform Anisotropic Regularity and Low Mach Number Limit of Non-isentropic Ideal MHD Equations with a Perfectly Conducting Boundary

We prove the low Mach number limit of non-isentropic ideal magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations with general initial data in the half-space whose boundary satisfies the perfectly conducting wall condition. By observing a special structure contributed by Lorentz force in vorticity analysis, we establish uniform estimates in suitable anisotropic Sobolev spaces with weights of Mach number determined by the number of material derivatives. We also observe that the entropy has the enhanced regularity in the direction of the magnetic field. These two observations help us get rid of the loss of derivatives and weights of Mach number in vorticity analysis caused by the simultaneous appearance of entropy, general initial data and the magnetic field, which is one of the major difficulties that do not appear in Euler equations or the isentropic problems. By utilizing the technique of Alinhac good unknowns, the anti-symmetric structure is preserved in the tangential estimates for the system differenetiated by high-order material derivatives.

DeepSeek-VL2: Mixture-of-Experts Vision-Language Models for Advanced Multimodal Understanding

We present DeepSeek-VL2, an advanced series of large Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) Vision-Language Models that significantly improves upon its predecessor, DeepSeek-VL, through two key major upgrades. For the vision component, we incorporate a dynamic tiling vision encoding strategy designed for processing high-resolution images with different aspect ratios. For the language component, we leverage DeepSeekMoE models with the Multi-head Latent Attention mechanism, which compresses Key-Value cache into latent vectors, to enable efficient inference and high throughput. Trained on an improved vision-language dataset, DeepSeek-VL2 demonstrates superior capabilities across various tasks, including but not limited to visual question answering, optical character recognition, document/table/chart understanding, and visual grounding. Our model series is composed of three variants: DeepSeek-VL2-Tiny, DeepSeek-VL2-Small and DeepSeek-VL2, with 1.0B, 2.8B and 4.5B activated parameters respectively. DeepSeek-VL2 achieves competitive or state-of-the-art performance with similar or fewer activated parameters compared to existing open-source dense and MoE-based models. Codes and pre-trained models are publicly accessible at https://github.com/deepseek-ai/DeepSeek-VL2.

Fixing Security Vulnerabilities with AI in OSS-Fuzz

Critical open source software systems undergo significant validation in the form of lengthy fuzz campaigns. The fuzz campaigns typically conduct a biased random search over the domain of program inputs, to find inputs which crash the software system. Such fuzzing is useful to enhance the security of software systems in general since even closed source software may use open source components. Hence testing open source software is of paramount importance. Currently OSS-Fuzz is the most significant and widely used infrastructure for continuous validation of open source systems. Unfortunately even though OSS-Fuzz has identified more than 10,000 vulnerabilities across 1000 or more software projects, the detected vulnerabilities may remain unpatched, as vulnerability fixing is often manual in practice. In this work, we rely on the recent progress in Large Language Model (LLM) agents for autonomous program improvement including bug fixing. We customise the well-known AutoCodeRover agent for fixing security vulnerabilities. This is because LLM agents like AutoCodeRover fix bugs from issue descriptions via code search. Instead for security patching, we rely on the test execution of the exploit input to extract code elements relevant to the fix. Our experience with OSS-Fuzz vulnerability data shows that LLM agent autonomy is useful for successful security patching, as opposed to approaches like Agentless where the control flow is fixed. More importantly our findings show that we cannot measure quality of patches by code similarity of the patch with reference codes (as in CodeBLEU scores used in VulMaster), since patches with high CodeBLEU scores still fail to pass given the given exploit input. Our findings indicate that security patch correctness needs to consider dynamic attributes like test executions as opposed to relying of standard text/code similarity metrics.

UAV Path Planning for Object Observation with Quality Constraints: A Dynamic Programming Approach

This paper addresses a UAV path planning task that seeks to observe a set of objects while satisfying the observation quality constraint. A dynamic programming algorithm is proposed that enables the UAV to observe the target objects with the shortest path while subjecting to the observation quality constraint. The objects have their own facing direction and restricted observation range. With an observing order, the algorithm achieves $(1+ε)$-approximation ratio in theory and runs in polynomial time. The extensive results demonstrate that the algorithm produces near-optimal solutions, the effectiveness of which is also tested and proved in the Airsim simulator, a realistic virtual environment.
