Cold and hot nuclear matter effects on $J/ψ$ production at RHIC-BES energies

Integrated and differential $J/ψ R_{AA}$ are systematically studied in Au-Au collisions at RHIC-BES energies in a transport approach, including cold and hot nuclear effects respectively in the initial condition and the collision terms. With decreasing energy, while the temperature, life time and size of the QGP fireball decrease, the nuclear absorption of the initially produced charmonia is more and more strong, and the nuclear shadowing effect on charmonium regeneration goes to anti-shadowing first and then to shadowing again. As a competition between the cold and hot nuclear effects, the QGP phase is still important for charmonium production at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$=200, 62.4, 54.4 and 39 GeV but becomes negligible at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$=14.5 GeV.

Magnetic field induced hair structure in charmonium gluon-dissociation

We study electromagnetic field effect on charmonium gluon-dissociation in quark-gluon plasma. With the effective Hamiltonian derived from QCD multipole expansion under an external electromagnetic field, we first solve the two-body Schrödinger equation for a pair of charm quarks with mean field potentials for color and electromagnetic interactions and obtain the charmonium binding energies and wave functions, and then calculate the gluon-dissociation cross-section and decay width by taking the color electric and magnetic dipole interactions as perturbations above the mean field and employing Fermi's Golden Rule. Considering the charmonium deformation in magnetic field, the discrete Landau energy levels make the dissociation cross-section grow hair, and the electric dipole channel is significantly changed, especially for the $P-$wave states $χ_{c0}$ and $χ_{c\pm}$. From our numerical calculation, the magnetic field strength $eB=5~m_π^2$ already changes the gluon dissociation strongly, which may indicate measurable effects in high-energy nuclear collisions.

Heavy quark potential in quark-gluon Plasma: Deep neural network meets lattice quantum chromodynamics

Bottomonium states are key probes for experimental studies of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) created in high-energy nuclear collisions. Theoretical models of bottomonium productions in high-energy nuclear collisions rely on the in-medium interactions between the bottom and antibottom quarks. The latter can be characterized by the temperature ($T$) dependent potential, with real ($V_R(T,r)$) and imaginary ($V_I(T,r)$) parts, as a function of the spatial separation ($r$). Recently, the masses and thermal widths of up to $3S$ and $2P$ bottomonium states in QGP were calculated using lattice quantum chromodynamics (LQCD). Starting from these LQCD results and through a novel application of deep neural network, here, we obtain $V_R(T,r)$ and $V_I(T,r)$ in a model-independent fashion. The temperature dependence of $V_R(T,r)$ was found to be very mild between $T\approx0-334$~MeV. For $T=151-334$~MeV, $V_I(T,r)$ shows a rapid increase with $T$ and $r$, which is much larger than the perturbation-theory-based expectations.

Mass spectra of doubly heavy tetraquarks in an improved chromomagnetic interaction model

Doubly heavy tetraquark states are the prime candidates for tightly bound exotic states. We present a systematic study of the mass spectra of the $S$-wave doubly heavy tetraquark states $QQ\bar{q}\bar{q}$ ($q=u, d, s$ and $Q=c, b$) with different quantum numbers $J^P=0^+$, $1^+$, and $2^+$ in the framework of the improved chromomagnetic interaction (ICMI) model. The parameters in the ICMI model are obtained by fitting the conventional hadron spectra and are used directly to predict the masses of the tetraquark states. For heavy quarks, the uncertainties of the parameters are obtained by comparing the masses of doubly and triply heavy baryons with those given by lattice QCD, QCD sum rules, and potential models. Several compact and stable bound states are found in both the doubly charmed and doubly bottomed tetraquark systems. The predicted mass of the $cc\bar u\bar d$ state is consistent with the recent measurement from the LHCb collaboration.

Charmonium Triangular Flow in High Energy Nuclear Collisions

We calculate, for the first time, $J/ψ$ triangular flow in high energy nuclear collisions. The charmonium motion in medium is controlled by a transport equation with loss and gain terms, and the evolution of the hot medium is governed by a single-shot hydrodynamic equation with a triangularly deformed initial condition. In comparison with the elliptic flow $v_2$, the triangular flow $v_3$ comes almost completely from the charmonium regeneration in the quark gluon plasma and therefore is more sensitive to the medium properties.

Mass spectra and decays of open-heavy tetraquark states

Open-heavy tetraquark states, especially those contain four different quarks have drawn much attention in both theoretical and experimental fields. In the framework of the improved chromomagnetic interaction (ICMI) model, we complete a systematic study on the mass spectra and possible strong decay channels of the $S$-wave open-heavy tetraquark states, $qq\bar{q}\bar{Q}$ ($q=u,d,s$ and $Q=c,b$), with different quantum number $J^P=0^+$, $1^+$, and $2^+$. The parameters in the ICMI model are extracted from the conventional hadron spectra and used directly to predict the mass of tetraquark states. Several compact bound states and narrow resonances are found in both charm-strange and bottom-strange tetraquark sectors, most of them as a product of the strong coupling between the different channels. Our results show the recently discovered four different flavors tetraquark candidates $X_0(2900)$ is probably compact $ud\bar{s}\bar{c}$ state with quantum number $J^P=0^+$. The predictions about $X_0(2900)$ and its partners are expected to be better checked with other theories and future experiments.

Charmonium in electromagnetic and vortical fields

Due to larger mass and earlier production, heavy quark(quarkonium) can be sensitive probes to investigate the fast decaying electromagnetic and vortical fields produced in heavy-ion collisions. The non-relativistic Schroedinger-like equation for heavy quarks under strong electromagnetic fields in the rotating frame is deduced and used to construct the two-body equation for the charmonium system. The effective potential between charm and anti-charm becomes anisotropic in electromagnetic and vortical fields, especially along the direction of the Lorentz force. The vorticity will affect this asymmetry property largely and catalyze the transition from strong interaction dominant bound state to electromagnetic and vortical interaction controlled anisotropic bound state. It is possible to be realized in high-energy nuclear collisions.

Charmonium transition in electromagnetic and rotational fields

We study charmonia in electromagnetic and rotational fields in the frame of a potential model. Different from the temperature field which is isotropic and leads to the well-known charmonium dissociation, the electromagnetic and rotational fields break down the radial symmetry, and the competition between strong interaction and electromagnetic and rotational interaction in the direction of Lorentz force makes the charmonia transit from an isotropic bound state of strong interaction with positive binding energy to an anisotropic bound state of electromagnetic and rotational interaction with negative binding energy. The transition seems possible to be realized in high energy nuclear collisions.

Pair structure of heavy tetraquark systems

We study the pair description of heavy tetraquark systems $|QQ\bar Q \bar Q\rangle$ in the frame of a non-relativistic potential model. By taking the two heavy quark pairs $(Q\bar Q)$ as colored clusters, the four-quark Schrödinger equation is reduced to a two-pair equation, when the inner motion inside the pairs can be neglected. Taking into account all the Casimir scaling potentials between two quarks and using the lattice QCD simulated mixing angle between the two color-singlet states for the tetraquark system, we extracted a detailed pair potential between the two heavy quark pairs.

Fully-heavy tetraquarks in strongly interacting medium

We study the properties of fully-heavy tetraquarks at finite temperature and their production in high-energy nuclear collisions. We obtain the masses and wave functions of the exotic hadron states $cc\bar c\bar c$ and $bb\bar b\bar b$ by solving the four-body Schrödinger equation in vacuum and strongly interacting matter. In vacuum, the tetraquarks are above the corresponding meson-meson mass threshold, and the newly observed exotic state $X(6900)$ might be a $cc\bar c\bar c$ state with quantum number $J^{PC}=0^{++}$ or $1^{+-}$. In hot medium, the temperature dependence of the tetraquark masses and the dissociation temperatures are calculated. Taking the wave function at finite temperature, we construct the Wigner function for the tetraquark states and calculate, with coalescence mechanism, the production yield and transverse momentum distribution of $cc\bar c\bar c$ in heavy-ion collisions at LHC energy. In comparison with nucleon-nucleon collisions, the yield per binary collision is significantly enhanced.

Heavy flavor dissociation in the framework of multi-body Dirac equations

We study heavy flavor properties at finite temperature in the framework of a relativistic potential model. With an improved method to solve the three-body Dirac equation, we determine a universal set of model parameters for both mesons and baryons by fitting heavy flavor masses in vacuum. Taking heavy quark potential from lattice QCD simulations in hot medium, we systematically calculate heavy flavor binding energies and averaged sizes as functions of temperature. The meson and baryons are separately sequentially dissociated in the quark-gluon plasma, and the mesons can survive at higher temperature due to the stronger potential between quark-antiquark pairs than that between quark-quark pairs.

Heavy flavors under extreme conditions in high energy nuclear collisions

Heavy flavor hadrons have long been considered as a probe of the quark gluon plasma created in high energy nuclear collisions. In this paper we review the heavy flavor properties under extreme conditions and the realization in heavy ion experiments. After a short introduction on heavy flavor properties in vacuum, we emphasize the cold and hot nuclear matter effects on heavy flavors, including shadowing effect, Cronin effect and nuclear absorption for the former and Debye screening and regeneration for the latter. Then we discuss, in the frame of transport and coalescence models, these medium induced changes in open and closed heavy flavors in nuclear collisions and the comparison with nucleon-nucleon collisions. Considering the extremely strong electromagnetic and rotational fields generated in non-central nuclear collisions, which are widely studied in recent years, we finally investigate their effects on heavy flavor production and evolution in high energy nuclear collisions.

Sequential hadronization in heavy ion collisions

Heavy flavor supplies a chance to constrain and improve the hadronization mechanism. We have established a sequential coalescence model with charm conservation and applied it to the charmed hadron production in heavy ion collisions. The charm conservation enhances the earlier hadron production and suppresses the later production. This relative enhancement (suppression) changes significantly the ratios between charmed hadrons in heavy ion collisions.

Probe the tilted Quark-Gluon Plasma with charmonium directed flow

Charmonium directed flows are studied based on transport model coupled with the realistic three dimensional expansions of the bulk medium. The non-central symmetric nucleus-nucleus collisions can generate the rotating quark-gluon plasma (QGP) with symmetry-breaking longitudinal distributions. In $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200$ GeV Au-Au semi-central collisions, charmonium are primordially produced in the initial hard process, they are mainly dissociated by the initial tilted source with high temperatures and then move out of the bulk medium to keep the early information of the medium. Charmonia are less affected by the hydrodynamic expansions of QGP where its tilted shape is being diluted. This biased dissociation can generate directed flows of $J/ψ$ and $ψ(2S)$ which are much larger than the values of light charged hadrons and open heavy flavor. They are sensitive and clean to the effect of QGP rapidity-odd initial energy densities.

FLIC: Fast Linear Iterative Clustering with Active Search

Benefiting from its high efficiency and simplicity, Simple Linear Iterative Clustering (SLIC) remains one of the most popular over-segmentation tools. However, due to explicit enforcement of spatial similarity for region continuity, the boundary adaptation of SLIC is sub-optimal. It also has drawbacks on convergence rate as a result of both the fixed search region and separately doing the assignment step and the update step. In this paper, we propose an alternative approach to fix the inherent limitations of SLIC. In our approach, each pixel actively searches its corresponding segment under the help of its neighboring pixels, which naturally enables region coherence without being harmful to boundary adaptation. We also jointly perform the assignment and update steps, allowing high convergence rate. Extensive evaluations on Berkeley segmentation benchmark verify that our method outperforms competitive methods under various evaluation metrics. It also has the lowest time cost among existing methods (approximately 30fps for a 481x321 image on a single CPU core).

Sequential Coalescence with Charm Conservation in High Energy Nuclear Collisions

Heavy quarks are initially produced in nuclear collisions and the number is conserved during the evolution of the system. We establish a sequential coalescence model with charm conservation and apply it to charmed hadron production at RHIC and LHC energies. The charm conservation enhances the earlier formed hadrons and reduces the later formed ones, which leads to a $D_s/D^0$ enhancement and a $Λ_c/D^0$ suppression. The mass dependence of the sequential hadron formation provides us a new tool for studying the quark-gluon plasma hadronization in high energy nuclear collisions.

Exotic Quantum States for Charmed Baryons at Finite Temperature

The significantly screened heavy-quark potential in hot medium provides the possibility to study exotic quantum states of three-heavy-quark systems. By solving the Schrödinger equation for a three-charm-quark system at finite temperature, we found that, there exist Borromean states which might be realized in high energy nuclear collisions, and the binding energies of the system satisfy precisely the scaling law for Efimov states in the resonance limit.

Strong Diffusion Effect of Charm Quarks on $J/ψ$ Production in Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC

We study the $J/ψ$ production based on coalescence model at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 2.76 and 5.02 TeV Pb-Pb collisions. With the colliding energy increasing from 2.76 TeV to 5.02 TeV, the number of charm pairs is enhanced by more than 50%. However, the ratio of $J/ψ$ inclusive nuclear modification factors $R^{5.02TeV}_{AA}/R^{2.76TeV}_{AA}$ is only about 1.1 $\sim$ 1.2. We find that the regeneration of $J/ψ$ is proportional to the densities of charm and anti-charm quarks, instead of their total numbers. The charm quark density is diluted by the strong expansion of quark gluon plasma, which suppresses the combination probability of heavy quarks and $J/ψ$ regeneration. This effect is more important in higher colliding energies where QGP expansion is strong. We also propose the ratio $N_{J/ψ}/(N_D)^2$ as a measurement of $c$ and $\bar c$ coalescence probability, which is only affected by the heavy quark diffusions in QGP, and does not depend on the inputs such as cold nuclear matter effects and cross sections of charm quark production. Further more, we give the predictions at the energy of Future Circular Collider ($\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 39 TeV).
