Density-dependent deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum

The deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum with the density-dependent meson-nucleon couplings is developed. The formulism is briefly presented with the emphasis on handling the density-dependent couplings, meson fields, and potentials in axially deformed system with partial wave method. Taking the neutron-rich nucleus $^{38}$Mg as an example, the newly developed code is verified by the spherical relativistic continuum Hartree-Bogoliubov calculations, where only the spherical components of the densities are considered. When the deformation is included self-consistently, it is shown that the spherical components of density-dependent coupling strengths are dominant, while the contributions from low-order deformed components are not negligible.

The Gamow-Teller response within Skyrme random-phase approximation plus particle-vibration coupling

Although many random-phase approximation (RPA) calculations of the Gamow-Teller (GT) response exist, this is not the case for calculations going beyond the mean-field approximation. We apply a consistent model that includes the coupling of the GT resonance to low-lying vibrations, to nuclei of the $fp$ shell. Among other motivations, our goal is to see if the particle-vibration coupling can redistribute the low-lying GT$^+$ strength that is relevant for electron-capture processes in core-collapse supernova. We conclude that the lowering and fragmentation of that strength are consistent with the experimental findings and validate our model. However, the particle-vibration coupling cannot account for the quenching of the total value of the low-lying strength.

Odd systems in deformed relativistic Hartree Bogoliubov theory in continuum

In order to describe the exotic nuclear structure in unstable odd-$A$ or odd-odd nuclei, the deformed relativistic Hartree Bogoliubov theory in continuum has been extended to incorporate the blocking effect due to the odd nucleon. For a microscopic and self-consistent description of pairing correlations, continuum, deformation, blocking effects, and the extended spatial density distribution in exotic nuclei, the deformed relativistic Hartree Bogoliubov equations are solved in a Woods-Saxon basis in which the radial wave functions have a proper asymptotic behavior at large $r$. The formalism and numerical details are provided. The code is checked by comparing the results with those of spherical relativistic continuum Hartree Bogoliubov theory in the nucleus $^{19}$O. The prolate deformed nucleus $^{15}$C is studied by examining the neutron levels and density distributions.

Deformed relativistic Hartree Bogoliubov theory in continuum

A deformed relativistic Hartree Bogoliubov (RHB) theory in continuum is developed aiming at a proper description of exotic nuclei, particularly those with a large spatial extension. In order to give an adequate consideration of both the contribution of the continuum and the large spatial distribution in exotic nuclei, the deformed RHB equations are solved in a Woods-Saxon (WS) basis in which the radial wave functions have a proper asymptotic behavior at large distance from the nuclear center. This is crucial for the proper description of a possible halo. The formalism of deformed RHB theory in continuum is presented. A stable nucleus, 20Mg and a weakly-bound nucleus, 42Mg, are taken as examples to present numerical details and to carry out necessary numerical checks. In addition, the ground state properties of even-even magnesium isotopes are investigated. The generic conditions of the formation of a halo in weakly bound deformed systems and the shape of the halo in deformed nuclei are discussed. We show that the existence and the deformation of a possible neutron halo depend essentially on the quantum numbers of the main components of the single particle orbitals in the vicinity of the Fermi surface.

Lambda and Anti-Lambda Hypernuclei in Relativistic Mean-field Theory

Several aspects about $Λ$-hypernuclei in the relativistic mean field theory, including the effective $Λ$-nucleon coupling strengths based on the successful effective nucleon-nucleon interaction PK1, hypernuclear magnetic moment and $\barΛ$-hypernuclei, have been presented. The effect of tensor coupling in $Λ$-hypernuclei and the impurity effect of $\barΛ$ to nuclear structure have been discussed in detail.

Stellar electron-capture rates calculated with the finite-temperature relativistic random-phase approximation

We introduce a self-consistent microscopic theoretical framework for modelling the process of electron capture on nuclei in stellar environment, based on relativistic energy density functionals. The finite-temperature relativistic mean-field model is used to calculate the single-nucleon basis and the occupation factors in a target nucleus, and $J^π = 0^{\pm}$, $1^{\pm}$, $2^{\pm}$ charge-exchange transitions are described by the self-consistent finite-temperature relativistic random-phase approximation. Cross sections and rates are calculated for electron capture on 54,56Fe and 76,78Ge in stellar environment, and results compared with predictions of similar and complementary model calculations.

Perturbative interpretation of relativistic symmetries in nuclei

Perturbation theory is used systematically to investigate the symmetries of the Dirac Hamiltonian and their breaking in atomic nuclei. Using the perturbation corrections to the single-particle energies and wave functions, the link between the single-particle states in realistic nuclei and their counterparts in the symmetry limits is discussed. It is shown that the limit of S-V=const and relativistic harmonic oscillator (RHO) potentials can be connected to the actual Dirac Hamiltonian by the perturbation method, while the limit of S+V=const cannot, where S and V are the scalar and vector potentials, respectively. This indicates that the realistic system can be treated as a perturbation of spin-symmetric Hamiltonians, and the energy splitting of the pseudospin doublets can be regarded as a result of small perturbation around the Hamiltonian with RHO potentials, where the pseudospin doublets are quasidegenerate.

Neutron halo in deformed nuclei from a relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov model in a Woods-Saxon basis

Halo phenomenon in deformed nuclei is studied by using a fully self-consistent deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov model in a spherical Woods-Saxon basis with the proper asymptotic behavior at large distance from the nuclear center. Taking a deformed neutron-rich and weakly bound nucleus $^{44}$Mg as an example and by examining contributions of the halo, deformation effects, and large spatial extensions, we show a decoupling of the halo orbitals from the deformation of the core.

Spin-orbit and orbit-orbit strengths for radioactive neutron-rich doubly magic nucleus $^{132}$Sn in relativistic mean field theory

Relativistic mean field (RMF) theory is applied to investigate the properties of the radioactive neutron-rich doubly magic nucleus $^{132}$Sn and the corresponding isotopes and isotones. The two-neutron and two-proton separation energies are well reproduced by the RMF theory. In particular, the RMF results agree with the experimental single-particle spectrum in $^{132}$Sn as well as the Nilsson spin-orbit parameter $C$ and orbit-orbit parameter $D$ thus extracted, but remarkably differ from the traditional Nilsson parameters. Furthermore, the present results provide a guideline for the isospin dependence of the Nilsson parameters.

Persistent contribution of unbound quasiparticles to the pair correlation in continuum Skyrme-Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov approach

The neutron pair correlation in nuclei near the neutron drip-line is investigated using the selfconsistent continuum Skyrme-Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov theory formulated with the coordinate-space Green's function technique. Numerical analysis is performed for even-even N = 86 isotones in the Mo-Sn region, where the 3p3/2 and 3p1/2 orbits lying near the Fermi energy are either weakly bound or unbound. The quasiparticle states originating from the l = 1 orbits form resonances with large widths, which are due to the low barrier height and the strong continuum coupling caused by the pair potential. Analyzing in detail the pairing properties and roles of the quasiparticle resonances, we found that the l = 1 broad quasiparticle resonances persist to feel the pair potential and contribute to the pair correlation even when their widths are comparable with the resonance energy.

Neutron halo in deformed nuclei

Halo phenomena in deformed nuclei are investigated within a deformed relativistic Hartree Bogoliubov (DRHB) theory. These weakly bound quantum systems present interesting examples for the study of the interdependence between the deformation of the core and the particles in the halo. Contributions of the halo, deformation effects, and large spatial extensions of these systems are described in a fully self-consistent way by the DRHB equations in a spherical Woods-Saxon basis with the proper asymptotic behavior at large distance from the nuclear center. Magnesium and neon isotopes are studied and detailed results are presented for the deformed neutron-rich and weakly bound nucleus $^{44}$Mg. The core of this nucleus is prolate, but the halo has a slightly oblate shape. This indicates a decoupling of the halo orbitals from the deformation of the core. The generic conditions for the occurence of this decoupling effects are discussed.

Tensor coupling effects on spin symmetry in anti-Lambda spectrum of hypernuclei

The effects of $\barΛ\barΛω$-tensor coupling on the spin symmetry of $\barΛ$ spectra in $\barΛ$-nucleus systems have been studied with the relativistic mean-field theory. Taking $^{12}$C+$\barΛ$ as an example, it is found that the tensor coupling enlarges the spin-orbit splittings of $\barΛ$ by an order of magnitude although its effects on the wave functions of $\barΛ$ are negligible. Similar conclusions has been observed in $\barΛ$-nucleus of different mass regions, including $^{16}$O+$\barΛ$, $^{40}$Ca+$\barΛ$ and $^{208}$Pb+$\barΛ$. It indicates that the spin symmetry in anti-lambda-nucleus systems is still good irrespective of the tensor coupling.

Spin symmetry in Dirac negative energy spectrum in density-dependent relativistic Hartree-Fock theory

The spin symmetry in the Dirac negative energy spectrum and its origin are investigated for the first time within the density-dependent relativistic Hartree-Fock (DDRHF) theory. Taking the nucleus $^{16}$O as an example, the spin symmetry in the negative energy spectrum is found to be a good approximation and the dominant components of the Dirac wave functions for the spin doublets are nearly identical. In comparison with the relativistic Hartree approximation where the origin of spin symmetry lies in the equality of the scalar and vector potentials, in DDRHF the cancellation between the Hartree and Fock terms is responsible for the better spin symmetry properties and determines the subtle spin-orbit splitting. These conclusions hold even in the case when significant deviations from the G-parity values of the meson-antinucleon couplings occur.

Open Problems in Understanding the Nuclear Chirality

Open problems in the interpretation of the observed pair of near degenerate $ΔI = 1$ bands with the same parity as the chiral doublet bands are discussed. The ambiguities for the existing fingerprints of the chirality in atomic nuclei and problems in existing theory are discussed, including the description of quantum tunneling in the mean field approximation as well as the deformation, core polarization and configuration of particle rotor model (PRM). Future developments of the theoretical approach are prospected.

Nuclear halo structure and pseudo-spin symmetry

Nuclear halo structure and restoration of relativistic symmetry are studied within the framework of the relativistic Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (RHFB) theory. Giant halos as well as ordinary ones are found in Cerium isotopes close to the neutron drip line. Bridged by T=0 {channel}, the restoration of pseudo-spin symmetry (PSS) plays an essential role in stabilizing the neutron halo structures. The Fock terms, especially the $ρ$-tensor couplings, not only play significant role in the PSS restoration but also present substantial contributions to the T=0 {channel}, from which is well demonstrated the necessity of Fock terms.

Influence of nuclear physics inputs and astrophysical conditions on Th/U chronometer

The productions of thorium and uranium are key ingredients in $r$-process nucleo-cosmochronology. With the combination of improved nuclear and stellar data, we have made detailed investigations on the $r$-process abundance pattern in the very metal-poor halo stars based on the classical $r$-process approach. It is found that the results are almost independent of specified simulations to observed abundances. The influence from nuclear mass uncertainties on Th/U chronometer can approach 2 Gyr. Moreover, the ages of the metal-poor stars HE 1523-0901, CS 31082-001, and BD +17$^\circ$3248 are determined as $11.8\pm 3.7$, $13.5\pm 2.9$, and $10.9 \pm 2.9$ Gyr, respectively. The results can serve as an independent check for age estimate of the universe.

Relativistic description of BCS-BEC crossover in nuclear matter

We study theoretically the di-neutron spatial correlations and the crossover from superfluidity of neutron Cooper pairs in the $^1S_0$ pairing channel to Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) of di-neutron pairs for both symmetric and neutron matter in the microscopic relativistic pairing theory. We take the bare nucleon-nucleon interaction Bonn-B in the particle-particle channel and the effective interaction PK1 of the relativistic mean-field approach in the particle-hole channel. It is found that the spatial structure of neutron Cooper pair wave function evolves continuously from BCS-type to BEC-type as density decreases. We see a strong concentration of the probability density revealed for the neutron pairs in the fairly small relative distance around $1.5 {\rm fm}$ and the neutron Fermi momentum $k_{Fn}\in[0.6,1.0] {\rm fm^{-1}}$. However, from the effective chemical potential and the quasiparticle excitation spectrum, there is no evidence for the appearance of a true BEC state of neutron pairs at any density. The most BEC-like state may appear at $k_{Fn}\thicksim0.2 {\rm fm^{-1}}$ by examining the density correlation function. From the coherence length and the probability distribution of neutron Cooper pairs as well as the ratio between the neutron pairing gap and the kinetic energy at the Fermi surface, some features of the BCS-BEC crossover are seen in the density regions, $0.05 {\rm fm^{-1}}<k_{Fn}<0.7 (0.75) {\rm fm^{-1}}$, for the symmetric nuclear (pure neutron) matter.

Spherical-box approach for resonances in presence of Coulomb interaction

The spherical-box approach is extended to calculate the resonance parameters and the real part of the wave function for single particle resonances in a potential containing the long-range Coulomb interaction. A model potential is taken to demonstrate the ability and accuracy of this approach. The calculated resonance parameters are compared with available results from other methods. It is shown that in the presence of the Coulomb interaction, the spherical-box approach works well for not so broad resonances. In particular, for very narrow resonances, the present method gives resonance parameters in a very high precision.
