Controllability of Complex Networks with Nonlinear Dynamics

Sun et al. provided an insightful comment arXiv:1108.5739v1 on our manuscript entitled "Controllability of Complex Networks with Nonlinear Dynamics" on arXiv. We agree on their main point that linearization about locally desired states can be violated in general by the breakdown of local control of the linearized complex network with nonlinear state. Therefore, we withdraw our manuscript. However, other than nonlinear dynamics, our claim that a single-node-control can fully control the general bidirectional/undirected linear network with 1D self-dynamics is still valid, which is similar to (but different from) the conclusion of arXiv:1106.2573v3 that all-node-control with a single signal can fully control any direct linear network with nodal-dynamics (1D self-dynamics).

Self-Optimized OFDMA via Multiple Stackelberg Leader Equilibrium

The challenge of self-optimization for orthogonal frequency-division multiple-access (OFDMA) interference channels is that users inherently compete harmfully and simultaneous water-filling (WF) would lead to a Pareto-inefficient equilibrium. To overcome this, we first introduce the role of environmental interference derivative in the WF optimization of the interactive OFDMA game and then study the environmental interference derivative properties of Stackelberg equilibrium (SE). Such properties provide important insights to devise free OFDMA games for achieving various SEs, realizable by simultaneous WF regulated by specifically chosen operational interference derivatives. We also present a definition of all-Stackelberg-leader equilibrium (ASE) where users are all foresighted to each other, albeit each with only local channel state information (CSI), and can thus most effectively reconcile their competition to maximize the user rates. We show that under certain environmental conditions, the free games are both unique and optimal. Simulation results reveal that our distributed ASE game achieves the performance very close to the near-optimal centralized iterative spectrum balancing (ISB) method in [5].

Multi-resonance of energy transport and absence of heat pump in a force-driven lattice

Energy transport control in low dimensional nano-scale systems has attracted much attention in recent years. In this paper, we investigate the energy transport properties of Frenkel-Kontorova lattice subject to a periodic driving force, in particular, the resonance behavior of the energy current by varying the external driving frequency. It is discovered that in certain parameter ranges, multiple resonance peaks, instead of a single resonance, emerge. By comparing the nonlinear lattice model with a harmonic chain, we unravel the underlying physical mechanism for such resonance phenomenon. Other parameter dependencies of the resonance behavior are examined as well. Finally, we demonstrate that heat pumping is actually absent in this force-driven model.

The phonon Hall effect: theory and application

We present a systematic theory of the phonon Hall effect in a ballistic crystal lattice system, and apply it on the kagome lattice which is ubiquitous in various real materials. By proposing a proper second quantization for the non-Hermite Hamiltonian in the polarization-vector space, we obtain a new heat current density operator with two separate contributions: the normal velocity responsible for the longitudinal phonon transport, and the anomalous velocity manifesting itself as the Hall effect of transverse phonon transport. As exemplified in kagome lattices, our theory predicts that the direction of Hall conductivity at low magnetic field can be reversed by tuning temperatures, which we hope can be verified by experiments in the future. Three phonon-Hall-conductivity singularities induced by phonon-band-topology change are discovered as well, which correspond to the degeneracies at three different symmetric center points, Γ, K, X, in the wave-vector space of the kagome lattice.

Effcient simulation of the adaptive time-dependent density-matrix renormalization-group with periodic boundary conditions

We introduce a numerical method of the adaptive time-dependent density-matrix renormalization-group to compute one-dimensional quantum spin systems with periodic boundary condition. We check our algorithm to study the dynamic correlation in spin-1/2 Heisenberg XX chain at zero temperature, and the numerical analysis of errors indicates that this method could be used to efficiently simulate the time-dependent properties of low-energy dynamics in an arbitrary one-dimensional quantum many-body systems with the nearest-neighbor interaction.

Duality and fluctuation relations for statistics of currents on cyclic graphs

We consider stochastic motion of a particle on a cyclic graph with arbitrarily periodic time dependent kinetic rates. We demonstrate duality relations for statistics of currents in this model and in its continuous version of a diffusion in one dimension. Our duality relations are valid beyond detailed balance constraints and lead to exact expressions that relate statistics of currents induced by dual driving protocols. We also show that previously known no-pumping theorems and some of the fluctuation relations, when they are applied to cyclic graphs or to one dimensional diffusion, are special consequences of our duality.

Topological Nature of the Phonon Hall Effect

We provide a topological understanding on phonon Hall effect in dielectrics with Raman spinphonon coupling. A general expression for phonon Hall conductivity is obtained in terms of the Berry curvature of band structures. We find a nonmonotonic behavior of phonon Hall conductivity as a function of magnetic field. Moreover, we observe a phase transition in phonon Hall effect, which corresponds to the sudden change of band topology, characterized by the altering of integer Chern numbers. This can be explained by touching and splitting of phonon bands.

One-dimensional holographic superconductor from AdS_3/CFT_2 correspondence

We obtain a holographical description of a superconductor by using the d=2 case of the AdS_{d+1}/CFT_d correspondence. The gravity system is a (2+1)-dimensional AdS black hole coupled to a Maxwell field and charged scalar. The dual (1+1)-dimensional superconductor will be strongly correlated. The characteristic exponents for vector perturbations at the boundary degenerate, which implies that d=2 is a critical dimension and the Green's function needs to be regularized. In the normal phase, the current-current correlation function and the conductivity can be analytically solved at zero chemical potential. The dc conductivity can be analytically solved at finite chemical potential. When we add a scalar hair to the black hole, a charged condensate happens at low temperatures. We compare our results with higher-dimensional cases.

Observe the open universe in the sky?

We first review the related works on the observable consequence of landscape and the regulation of e-foldings during inflation. We focus on a branch of observable consequence of landscape which predicts an open universe with negative curvature if e-foldings $N>62$. After discussing the observable regulation from the aspect by Kaloper, Kleban and Sorbo, we make an argument that in the non-flat background the observable $N$ is suppressed by a factor $k/ρ_{0}$. We point out that this seems to detect the information where e-foldings $N>62$ possibly. Finally, we discuss our outcomes with the recent work by Arkani-Hamed et al.

Entanglement Creation and Storage in Two Qubits Coupling to an Anisotropic Heisenberg Spin Chain

The time evolution of the entanglement of a pair of two spin qubits is investigated when the two qubits simultaneously couple to an environment of an anisotropic Heisenberg XXZ spin chain. The entanglement of the two spin qubits can be created and is a periodic function of the time if the magnetic field is greater than a critical value. If the two spin qubits are in the Bell state, the entanglement can be stored with relatively large value even when the magnetic field is large.

Entanglement Entropy in an Antiferromagnetic Heisenberg Spin Chain with Boundary Impurities

The effects of boundary impurities on the entanglement entropy in an antiferromagnetic Heisenberg opened spin-$1/2$ chain are investigated. The method of density-matrix renormalization-group is used to obtain the bipartite entanglement. The entropy increases when the length of the subsystem increases. It will approach to a constant when system length is very large. With the same impurity interaction, qutrit impurities of spin-$1$ can increase the entanglement entropy.

Quantum phase transition in easy-axis antiferromagnetic Heisenberg spin-1 chain

The fidelity and entropy in an easy-axis antiferromagnetic Heisenberg spin-1 chain are studied numerically. By using the method of density-matrix renormalization group, the effects of anisotropy on fidelity and entanglement entropy are investigated. Their relations with quantum phase transition are analyzed. It is found that the quantum phase transition from the Haldane spin liquid to Néel spin solid can be well characterized by the fidelity. The phase transition can be hardly detected by the entropy but it can be successfully detected by the first deviation of the entropy.

Quench Dynamics of Entanglement in an Opened Anisotropic Spin-1/2 Heisenberg Chain

The quantum entanglement dynamics of a one-dimensional spin-1/2 anisotropic XXZ model is studied using the method of the adaptive time-dependent density-matrix renormalization-group when two cases of quenches are performed in the system. An anisotropic interaction quench and the maximum number of domain walls of staggered magnetization quench are considered. The dynamics of pairwise entanglement between the nearest two qubits in the spin chain is investigated. The entanglement of the two-spin qubits can be created and oscillates in both cases of the quench. The anisotropic interaction has a strong influence on the oscillation frequency of entanglement.

Long-range entanglement in the XXZ Heisenberg spin chain after a local quench

The long-range entanglement dynamics of an one-dimensional spin-1/2 anisotropic XXZ model are studied using the method of the adaptive time-dependent density-matrix renormalization-group. The long-range entanglement can be generated when a local quench on one of boundary bonds is performed in the system. The anisotropic interaction has a strong influence both on the maximal value of long-range entanglement and the time of reaching the maximum long-range entanglement. The local coupling has a notable impact on the long-range entanglement, but it can be neglected in the time of reaching the maximal long-range entanglement.

Fidelity and entanglement close to quantum phase transition in a two-leg $XXZ$ spin ladder

The fidelity susceptibility and entanglement entropy in a system of two-leg $XXZ$ spin ladder with rung coupling is investigated by using exact diagonalization of the system. The effects of rung coupling on fidelity susceptibility, entanglement entropy and quantum phase transition are analyzed. It is found that the quantum phase transition between two different $XY$ phases can be well characterized by the fidelity susceptibility. Though the quantum phase transition from $XY$ phase to rung singlet phase can be hardly detected by fidelity susceptibility, it can be predicted by the first derivative of the entanglement entropy of the system.

Berry-Phase induced Heat Pumping and its Impact on the Fluctuation Theorem

Applying adiabatic, cyclic two parameter modulations we investigate quantum heat transfer across an anharmonic molecular junction contacted with two heat baths. We demonstrate that the pumped heat typically exhibits a Berry phase effect in providing an additional geometric contribution to heat flux. Remarkably, a robust fractional quantized geometric phonon response is identified as well. The presence of this geometric phase contribution in turn causes a breakdown of the fluctuation theorem of the Gallavotti-Cohen type for quantum heat transfer. This can be restored only if (i) the geometric phase contribution vanishes and if (ii) the cyclic protocol preserves the detailed balance symmetry.

Emergence and control of heat current from strict zero thermal bias

It is an ever-growing challenge to develop nano-devices for controlling energy transport. An open question is whether we can create and control heat current at {\it strict zero thermal bias}, and if yes, how to do it. In this paper, we demonstrate that a nonlinear asymmetric system, when pushed out of equilibrium, can produce heat current in the absence of a thermal bias. The emergence and control of heat current over a broad range of parameters are studied. Our results reveal the following three necessary conditions: non-equilibrium source, symmetry breaking, and nonlinearity. We also demonstrate that when heat baths are correlated, symmetry breaking is sufficient to generate heat current.

Noise bridges dynamical correlation and topology in coupled oscillator networks

We study the relationship between dynamical properties and interaction patterns in complex oscillator networks in the presence of noise. A striking finding is that noise leads to a general, one-to-one correspondence between the dynamical correlation and the connections among oscillators for a variety of node dynamics and network structures. The universal finding enables an accurate prediction of the full network topology based solely on measuring the dynamical correlation. The power of the method for network inference is demonstrated by the high success rate in identifying links for distinct dynamics on both model and real-life networks. The method can have potential applications in various fields due to its generality, high accuracy and efficiency.
