Modification from Noncommutative Inflation

We explore the noncommutative effect on single field inflation and compare with WMAP five-year data. First, we calculate the noncommutative effect from the potential and dynamical terms, and construct the general form of modified power spectrum. Second, we consider the leading order modification of slow-roll, DBI and K-inflation and unite the modification, which means the modification is nearly model independent at this level. Finally, comparing with the WMAP5 data, we find that the modified can be well realized as the origin of the relative large spectral index and the quite small running.

Thermodynamic stability of small-world oscillator networks: A case study of proteins

We study vibrational thermodynamic stability of small-world oscillator networks, by relating the average mean-square displacement $S$ of oscillators to the eigenvalue spectrum of the Laplacian matrix of networks. We show that the cross-links suppress $S$ effectively and there exist two phases on the small-world networks: 1) an unstable phase: when $p\ll1/N$, $S\sim N$; 2) a stable phase: when $p\gg1/N$, $S\sim p^{-1}$, \emph{i.e.}, $S/N\sim E_{cr}^{-1}$. Here, $p$ is the parameter of small-world, $N$ is the number of oscillators, and $E_{cr}=pN$ is the number of cross-links. The results are exemplified by various real protein structures that follow the same scaling behavior $S/N\sim E_{cr}^{-1}$ of the stable phase. We also show that it is the "small-world" property that plays the key role in the thermodynamic stability and is responsible for the universal scaling $S/N\sim E_{cr}^{-1}$, regardless of the model details.

Exploring trans-Planckian physics and the curvature effect by primordial power spectrum with WMAP five-year data

The vacuum inflation with a boundary condition specified at a short-distance scale in a generally primeval non-flat Universe, and implications of the correspondingly modified primordial power spectrum via the WMAP data are investigated. We obtain a general form of the modified primordial power spectrum including the effects of both possibly new physics scale and the spatial curvature. The modulation of the primordial power spectrum due to new physics is of the order $H/Λ$, where $H$ is the Hubble parameter during inflation and $Λ$ is the new physics scale that is key to inflation, while the modulation from the curvature effect is of the order $K/k^2$, where $K$ is the spatial curvature before inflation and $k$ is the comoving wave number. We also find that a closed Universe before inflation is favored by WMAP five-year data.

Exact solutions of embedding the four-dimensional perfect fluid in a five- or higher-dimensional Einstein spacetime and the cosmological interpretations

We investigate an exact solution that describes the embedding of the four-dimensional (4D) perfect fluid in a five-dimensional (5D) Einstein spacetime. The effective metric of the 4D perfect fluid as a hypersurface with induced matter is equivalent to the Robertson-Walker metric of cosmology. This general solution shows interconnections among many 5D solutions, such as the solution in the braneworld scenario and the topological black hole with cosmological constant. If the 5D cosmological constant is positive, the metric periodically depends on the extra dimension. Thus we can compactify the extra dimension on $S^1$ and study the phenomenological issues. We also generalize the metric ansatz to the higher-dimensional case, in which the 4D part of the Einstein equations can be reduced to a linear equation.

Exact solutions of embedding the 4D Universe in a 5D Einstein manifold

One of the simplest way to extend 4D cosmological models is to add another spatial dimension to make them 5D. In particular, it has been shown that the simplest of such 5D models, i.e., one in which the right hand side of the Einstein equation is empty, induces a 4D nonempty Universe. Accordingly, the origin of matter in the 4D real Universe might be mathematically attributed to the existence of one (fictitious) extra spatial dimension. Here we consider the case of an empty 5D Universe possessing a cosmological constant $Λ$ and obtain exact solutions for both positive and negative values of $Λ$. It is seen that such a model can naturally reduce to a power law $Λ$CDM model for the real Universe. Further, it can be seen that, the arbitrary constants and functions appearing in this model are endowed with definite physical meanings.

Tachyon field inspired dark energy and supernovae constraints

The tachyon field in cosmology is studied by applying the generating function method to obtain exact solutions. The equation of state parameter of the tachyon field is $w=-1+ε\dot{ϕ^2}$, which can be expressed as a function in terms of the redshift $z$. Based on these solutions, we propose some tachyon-inspired dark energy models to explore the properties of the corresponding cosmological evolution. The explicit relations between Hubble parameter and redshift enable us to test the models with SNe Ia data sets easily. In the current work we employ the SNe Ia data with the parameter $\mathcal{A}$ measured from the SDSS and the shift parameter $\mathcal{R}$ from WMAP observations to constrain the parameters in our models.

Information Filtering via Self-Consistent Refinement

Recommender systems are significant to help people deal with the world of information explosion and overload. In this Letter, we develop a general framework named self-consistent refinement and implement it be embedding two representative recommendation algorithms: similarity-based and spectrum-based methods. Numerical simulations on a benchmark data set demonstrate that the present method converges fast and can provide quite better performance than the standard methods.

Equation of State for Neutralino Star as a Form of Cold Dark Matter

In order to study the structure of neutralino star and dark galaxy, we consider dynamical interactions due to boson-exchange in the neutralino matter. Taking into account interactions of neutralinos with bosons, we derive the equation of state (EOS) of neutralino stars in terms of the relativistic mean field approach. Then we apply the resulting EOS to investigate properties of the neutralino star such as its density profile and mass limit. For example, if the neutralino mass is around 1 TeV, the Oppenheimer mass limit of the neutralino star is obtained as $6.06\times 10^{-7}M_\odot$, and the corresponding radius is about 7.8 mm. Actually, due to an increasing annihilation rate as indicated by our calculation, this dense state can never be realized in practice. Our results also show that the low density neutralino star may be a possible aggregation of the cold dark matter.

Recommendation model based on opinion diffusion

Information overload in the modern society calls for highly efficient recommendation algorithms. In this letter we present a novel diffusion based recommendation model, with users' ratings built into a transition matrix. To speed up computation we introduce a Green function method. The numerical tests on a benchmark database show that our prediction is superior to the standard recommendation methods.

Hamiltonian formalism in Friedmann cosmology and its quantization

We propose a Hamiltonian formalism for a generalized Friedmann-Roberson-Walker cosmology model in the presence of both a variable equation of state (EOS) parameter $w(a)$ and a variable cosmological constant $Λ(a)$, where $a$ is the scale factor. This Hamiltonian system containing 1 degree of freedom and without constraint, gives Friedmann equations as the equation of motion, which describes a mechanical system with a variable mass object moving in a potential field. After an appropriate transformation of the scale factor, this system can be further simplified to an object with constant mass moving in an effective potential field. In this framework, the $Λ$ cold dark matter model as the current standard model of cosmology corresponds to a harmonic oscillator. We further generalize this formalism to take into account the bulk viscosity and other cases. The Hamiltonian can be quantized straightforwardly, but this is different from the approach of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation in quantum cosmology.

Non-uniform Black Strings with Schwarzschild-(Anti-)de Sitter Foliation

We present some exact non-uniform black string solutions of 5-dimensional pure Einstein gravity as well as Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory at arbitrary dilaton coupling. The solutions share the common property that their 4-dimensional slices are Schwarzchild-(anti-)de Sitter spacetimes. The pure gravity solution is also generalized to spacetimes of dimensions higher than 5 to get non-uniform black branes.

How to project a bipartite network?

The one-mode projecting is extensively used to compress the bipartite networks. Since the one-mode projection is always less informative than the bipartite representation, a proper weighting method is required to better retain the original information. In this article, inspired by the network-based resource-allocation dynamics, we raise a weighting method, which can be directly applied in extracting the hidden information of networks, with remarkably better performance than the widely used global ranking method as well as collaborative filtering. This work not only provides a creditable method in compressing bipartite networks, but also highlights a possible way for the better solution of a long-standing challenge in modern information science: How to do personal recommendation?

Empirical study on clique-degree distribution of networks

The community structure and motif-modular-network hierarchy are of great importance for understanding the relationship between structures and functions. In this paper, we investigate the distribution of clique-degree, which is an extension of degree and can be used to measure the density of cliques in networks. The empirical studies indicate the extensive existence of power-law clique-degree distributions in various real networks, and the power-law exponent decreases with the increasing of clique size.

Randomness enhances cooperation: a resonance type phenomenon in evolutionary games

We investigate the effect of randomness in both relationships and decisions on the evolution of cooperation. Simulation results show, in such randomness' presence, the system evolves to a more frequency cooperation state than in its absence. Specifically, there is an optimal amount of randomness, which can induce the highest level of cooperation. The mechanism of randomness promoting cooperation resembles a coherence-resonance-like fashion, which could be of particular interest in evolutionary game dynamics in economic, biological and social systems.

Epidemic spreading and immunization with identical infectivity

In this paper, a susceptible-infected-susceptible (SIS) model with identical infectivity, where each node is assigned with the same capability of active contacts, $A$, at each time step, is presented. We found that on scale-free networks, the density of the infected nodes shows the existence of threshold, whose value equals 1/A, both demonstrated by analysis and numerical simulation. The infected population grows in an exponential form and follows hierarchical dynamics, indicating that once the highly connected hubs are reached, the infection pervades almost the whole network in a progressive cascade. In addition, the effects of random, proportional, and targeted immunization for this model are investigated. Based on the current model and for heterogenous networks, the targeted strategy performs best, while the random strategy is much more efficient than in the standard SIS model. The present results could be of practical importance in the setup of dynamic control strategies.

Dark viscous fluid described by a unified equation of state in cosmology

We generalize the $Λ$CDM model by introducing a unified EOS to describe the Universe contents modeled as dark viscous fluid, motivated by the fact that a single constant equation of state (EOS) $p=-p_0$ ($p_0>0$) reproduces the $Λ$CDM model exactly. This EOS describes the perfect fluid term, the dissipative effect, and the cosmological constant in a unique framework and the Friedmann equations can be analytically solved. Especially, we find a relation between the EOS parameter and the renormalizable condition of a scalar field. We develop a completely numerical method to perform a $χ^2$ minimization to constrain the parameters in a cosmological model directly from the Friedmann equations, and employ the SNe data with the parameter $\mathcal{A}$ measured from the SDSS data to constrain our model. The result indicates that the dissipative effect is rather small in the late-time Universe.

Synchronization reveals correlation between oscillators on networks

The understanding of synchronization ranging from natural to social systems has driven the interests of scientists from different disciplines. Here, we have investigated the synchronization dynamics of the Kuramoto dynamics departing from the fully synchronized regime. We have got the analytic expression of the dynamical correlation between pairs of oscillators that reveals the relation between the network dynamics and the underlying topology. Moreover, it also reveals the internal structure of networks that can be used as a new algorithm to detect community structures. Further, we have proposed a new measure about the synchronization in complex networks and scrutinize it in small-world and scale-free networks. Our results indicate that the more heterogeneous and "smaller" the network is, the more closely it would be synchronized by the collective dynamics.

Collective synchronization induced by epidemic dynamics on complex networks with communities

Much recent empirical evidence shows that \textit{community structure} is ubiquitous in the real-world networks. In this Letter, we propose a growth model to create scale-free networks with the tunable strength (noted by $Q$) of community structure and investigate the influence of community strength upon the collective synchronization induced by SIRS epidemiological process. Global and local synchronizability of the system is studied by means of an order parameter and the relevant finite-size scaling analysis is provided. The numerical results show that, a phase transition occurs at $Q_c\simeq0.835$ from global synchronization to desynchronization and the local synchronization is weakened in a range of intermediately large $Q$. Moreover, we study the impact of mean degree $ $ upon synchronization on scale-free networks.
