Analysis of Full-scale Riser Responses in Field Conditions Based on Gaussian Mixture Model

Offshore slender marine structures experience complex and combined load conditions from waves, current and vessel motions that may result in both wave frequency and vortex shedding response patterns. Field measurements often consist of records of environmental conditions and riser responses, typically with 30-minute intervals. These data can be represented in a high-dimensional parameter space. However, it is difficult to visualize and understand the structural responses, as they are affected by many of these parameters. It becomes easier to identify trends and key parameters if the measurements with the same characteristics can be grouped together. Cluster analysis is an unsupervised learning method, which groups the data based on their relative distance, density of the data space, intervals, or statistical distributions. In the present study, a Gaussian mixture model guided by domain knowledge has been applied to analyze field measurements. Using the 242 measurement events of the Helland-Hansen riser, it is demonstrated that riser responses can be grouped into 12 clusters by the identification of key environmental parameters. This results in an improved understanding of complex structure responses. Furthermore, the cluster results are valuable for evaluating the riser response prediction accuracy.

GEB-1.3B: Open Lightweight Large Language Model

Recently developed large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Llama have demonstrated impressive abilities, and even surpass human-level performance in several tasks. Despite their success, the resource-intensive demands of these models, requiring significant computational power for both training and inference, limit their deployment to high-performance servers. Additionally, the extensive calculation requirements of the models often lead to increased latency in response times. With the increasing need for LLMs to operate efficiently on CPUs, research about lightweight models that are optimized for CPU inference has emerged. In this work, we introduce GEB-1.3B, a lightweight LLM trained on 550 billion tokens in both Chinese and English languages. We employ novel training techniques, including ROPE, Group-Query-Attention, and FlashAttention-2, to accelerate training while maintaining model performance. Additionally, we fine-tune the model using 10 million samples of instruction data to enhance alignment. GEB-1.3B exhibits outstanding performance on general benchmarks such as MMLU, C-Eval, and CMMLU, outperforming comparative models such as MindLLM-1.3B and TinyLLaMA-1.1B. Notably, the FP32 version of GEB-1.3B achieves commendable inference times on CPUs, with ongoing efforts to further enhance speed through advanced quantization techniques. The release of GEB-1.3B as an open-source model marks a significant contribution to the development of lightweight LLMs, promising to foster further research and innovation in the field.

Comparison and application of different post-Newtonian models for inspiralling stellar-mass binary black holes with space-based GW detectors

Space-based gravitational wave (GW) detectors are expected to detect the stellar-mass binary black holes (SBBHs) inspiralling in the low-frequency band, which exist in several years before the merger. Accurate GW waveforms in the inspiral phase are crucial for the detection and analysis of those SBBHs. In our study, based on post-Newtonian (PN) models, we investigate the differences in the detection, accuracy requirement, and parameter estimation of SBBHs in the cases of LISA, Taiji, and their joint detection. We find that low-order PN models are sufficient for simulating low-mass ($\le 50\ \mathrm{M}_\odot$) SBBHs population. Moreover, for detectable SBBHs in space-based GW detectors, over 90% of the GW signals from low-order PN models meet accuracy requirement. Additionally, different PN models do not exhibit significant differences in Bayesian inference. Our research provides a comprehensive reference for balancing computational resources and the desired accuracy of GW waveform generation. It highlights the suitability of low-order PN models for simulating SBBHs and emphasizes their potential in the detection and parameter estimation of SBBHs.

ID-Aligner: Enhancing Identity-Preserving Text-to-Image Generation with Reward Feedback Learning

The rapid development of diffusion models has triggered diverse applications. Identity-preserving text-to-image generation (ID-T2I) particularly has received significant attention due to its wide range of application scenarios like AI portrait and advertising. While existing ID-T2I methods have demonstrated impressive results, several key challenges remain: (1) It is hard to maintain the identity characteristics of reference portraits accurately, (2) The generated images lack aesthetic appeal especially while enforcing identity retention, and (3) There is a limitation that cannot be compatible with LoRA-based and Adapter-based methods simultaneously. To address these issues, we present \textbf{ID-Aligner}, a general feedback learning framework to enhance ID-T2I performance. To resolve identity features lost, we introduce identity consistency reward fine-tuning to utilize the feedback from face detection and recognition models to improve generated identity preservation. Furthermore, we propose identity aesthetic reward fine-tuning leveraging rewards from human-annotated preference data and automatically constructed feedback on character structure generation to provide aesthetic tuning signals. Thanks to its universal feedback fine-tuning framework, our method can be readily applied to both LoRA and Adapter models, achieving consistent performance gains. Extensive experiments on SD1.5 and SDXL diffusion models validate the effectiveness of our approach. \textbf{Project Page: \url{https://idaligner.github.io/}}

ByteEdit: Boost, Comply and Accelerate Generative Image Editing

Recent advancements in diffusion-based generative image editing have sparked a profound revolution, reshaping the landscape of image outpainting and inpainting tasks. Despite these strides, the field grapples with inherent challenges, including: i) inferior quality; ii) poor consistency; iii) insufficient instrcution adherence; iv) suboptimal generation efficiency. To address these obstacles, we present ByteEdit, an innovative feedback learning framework meticulously designed to Boost, Comply, and Accelerate Generative Image Editing tasks. ByteEdit seamlessly integrates image reward models dedicated to enhancing aesthetics and image-text alignment, while also introducing a dense, pixel-level reward model tailored to foster coherence in the output. Furthermore, we propose a pioneering adversarial and progressive feedback learning strategy to expedite the model's inference speed. Through extensive large-scale user evaluations, we demonstrate that ByteEdit surpasses leading generative image editing products, including Adobe, Canva, and MeiTu, in both generation quality and consistency. ByteEdit-Outpainting exhibits a remarkable enhancement of 388% and 135% in quality and consistency, respectively, when compared to the baseline model. Experiments also verfied that our acceleration models maintains excellent performance results in terms of quality and consistency.

Single-photon time-of-flight (TOF) non-line-of-sight (NLOS) imaging enables the high-resolution reconstruction of objects outside the field of view. The compactness of TOF NLOS imaging systems, entailing the miniaturization of key components within such systems is crucial for practical applications. Here, we present a miniaturized four-channel time-correlated single-photon counting module dedicated to TOF NLOS imaging applications. The module achieves excellent performance with a 10 ps bin size and 27.4 ps minimum root-mean-square time resolution. We present the results of TOF NLOS imaging experiment using an InGaAs/InP single-photon detector and the time-correlated single-photon counting module, and show that a 6.3 cm lateral resolution and 2.3 cm depth resolution can be achieved under the conditions of 5 m imaging distance and 1 ms pixel dwell time.

Breaking the Degrees-of-Freedom Limit of Holographic MIMO Communications: A 3-D Antenna Array Topology

The performance of holographic multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communications, employing two-dimensional (2-D) planar antenna arrays, is typically compromised by finite degrees-of-freedom (DOF) stemming from limited array size. The DOF constraint becomes significant when the element spacing approaches approximately half a wavelength, thereby restricting the overall performance of MIMO systems. To break this inherent limitation, we propose a novel three-dimensional (3-D) antenna array that strategically explores the untapped vertical dimension. We investigate the performance of MIMO systems utilizing 3-D arrays across different multi-path scenarios, encompassing Rayleigh channels with varying angular spreads and the 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) channels. We subsequently showcase the advantages of these 3-D arrays over their 2-D counterparts with the same aperture sizes. As a proof of concept, a practical dipole-based 3-D array, facilitated by an electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) reflecting surface, is conceived, constructed, and evaluated. The experimental results align closely with full-wave simulations, and channel simulations substantiate that the DOF and capacity constraints of traditional holographic MIMO systems can be surpassed by adopting such a 3-D array configuration.

On rigidity of hypersurfaces with constant shifted curvature functions in hyperbolic space

In this paper, we first give some new characterizations of geodesic spheres in the hyperbolic space by the condition that hypersurface has constant weighted shifted mean curvatures, or constant weighted shifted mean curvature ratio, which generalize the result of Hu-Wei-Zhou \cite{HWZ23}. Secondly, we investigate several rigidity problems for hypersurfaces in the hyperbolic space with constant linear combinations of weighted shifted mean curvatures as well as radially symmetric shifted mean curvatures. As applications, we obtain the rigidity results for hypersurfaces with constant linear combinations of mean curvatures in a general form and constant Gauss-Bonnet curvature $L_k$ under weaker conditions, which extend the work of the third author and Xia \cite{WX14}.

Diversity-Based Recruitment in Crowdsensing By Combinatorial Multi-Armed Bandits

This paper explores mobile crowdsensing, which leverages mobile devices and their users for collective sensing tasks under the coordination of a central requester. The primary challenge here is the variability in the sensing capabilities of individual workers, which are initially unknown and must be progressively learned. In each round of task assignment, the requester selects a group of workers to handle specific tasks. This process inherently leads to task overlaps in the same round and repetitions across rounds. We propose a novel model that enhances task diversity over the rounds by dynamically adjusting the weight of tasks in each round based on their frequency of assignment. Additionally, it accommodates the variability in task completion quality caused by overlaps in the same round, which can range from the maximum individual worker's quality to the summation of qualities of all assigned workers in the overlap. A significant constraint in this process is the requester's budget, which demands an efficient strategy for worker recruitment. Our solution is to maximize the overall weighted quality of tasks completed in each round. We employ a combinatorial multi-armed bandit framework with an upper confidence bound approach for this purpose. The paper further presents a regret analysis and simulations using realistic data to demonstrate the efficacy of our model.

DreamTuner: Single Image is Enough for Subject-Driven Generation

Diffusion-based models have demonstrated impressive capabilities for text-to-image generation and are expected for personalized applications of subject-driven generation, which require the generation of customized concepts with one or a few reference images. However, existing methods based on fine-tuning fail to balance the trade-off between subject learning and the maintenance of the generation capabilities of pretrained models. Moreover, other methods that utilize additional image encoders tend to lose important details of the subject due to encoding compression. To address these challenges, we propose DreamTurner, a novel method that injects reference information from coarse to fine to achieve subject-driven image generation more effectively. DreamTurner introduces a subject-encoder for coarse subject identity preservation, where the compressed general subject features are introduced through an attention layer before visual-text cross-attention. We then modify the self-attention layers within pretrained text-to-image models to self-subject-attention layers to refine the details of the target subject. The generated image queries detailed features from both the reference image and itself in self-subject-attention. It is worth emphasizing that self-subject-attention is an effective, elegant, and training-free method for maintaining the detailed features of customized subjects and can serve as a plug-and-play solution during inference. Finally, with additional subject-driven fine-tuning, DreamTurner achieves remarkable performance in subject-driven image generation, which can be controlled by a text or other conditions such as pose. Subtraction of the confusion foreground and parameter uncertainty of resolvable galactic binaries on the networks of space-based gravitational-wave detectors

There are tens of millions of compact binary systems in the Milky Way, called galactic binaries (GBs), most of which are unresolved, and the Gravitational waves (GWs) emitted overlap to form foreground confusion. By simulating such foreground confusion, we have studied how LISA, Taiji and TianQin, including their alternative orbital configurations, subtract resolvable GBs when they combine as some networks. The results of our research indicate that the order of detected number for a single detector from high to low is: Taiji-m, Taiji-p (c), LISA, TianQin I, TianQin II. For detector combinations on the network, the foreground confusion is effectively reduced as the number of detectors grows, and the optimal combinations with different numbers are: Taiji-m, LISA+Taiji-m, LISA+Taiji-m+TianQin I, and LISA+Taiji-m+TianQin I+II. The sensitivity curve is optimized as the number of detectors increases, which renders it possible to detect other gravitational wave sources more precisely and decrease the resolvable GBs parameter uncertainty. Based on this, we discuss the parameter uncertainty of resolvable GBs detected by the combinations above and find that GW detection can promote electromagnetic (EM) detection. On the contrary, we discovered that by utilizing EM detection, determining the inclination angle can reduce the uncertainty of GW strain amplitude by $\sim$93%, and determining the sky position can reduce the uncertainty of the phase by $\sim$30%, further strengthening the connection between GW detection and EM detection, and contributing to the research of Multi-messenger astronomy.

A note on new weighted geometric inequalities for hypersurfaces in $\mathbb R^n$

In this note, we prove a family of sharp weighed inequality which involves weighted $k$-th mean curvature integral and two distinct quermassintegrals for closed hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{R}^n$. This inequality generalizes the corresponding result of Wei and Zhou \cite{WZ} where their proof is based on earlier results of Kwong-Miao \cite{KM1,KM2}. Here we present a proof which does not rely on Kwong-Miao's results.

The subdivision of hypergraphs

Hypergraphs, as a generalization of simplicial complexes, have long been a subject of interest in their geometric interpretation. The subdivision of simplicial complexes can, to some extent, provide insights into the geometry of simplicial complexes. In this paper, we introduce the concept of the subdivision of hypergraphs. Notably, the subdivision of hypergraphs can be reduced to the subdivision of simplicial complexes. Moreover, we prove that the subdivision of hypergraphs has the topological invariance with respect to the embedded homology.

Instructed Language Models with Retrievers Are Powerful Entity Linkers

Generative approaches powered by large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated emergent abilities in tasks that require complex reasoning abilities. Yet the generative nature still makes the generated content suffer from hallucinations, thus unsuitable for entity-centric tasks like entity linking (EL) requiring precise entity predictions over a large knowledge base. We present Instructed Generative Entity Linker (INSGENEL), the first approach that enables casual language models to perform entity linking over knowledge bases. Several methods to equip language models with EL capability were proposed in this work, including (i) a sequence-to-sequence training EL objective with instruction-tuning, (ii) a novel generative EL framework based on a light-weight potential mention retriever that frees the model from heavy and non-parallelizable decoding, achieving 4$\times$ speedup without compromise on linking metrics. INSGENEL outperforms previous generative alternatives with +6.8 F1 points gain on average, also with a huge advantage in training data efficiency and training compute consumption. In addition, our skillfully engineered in-context learning (ICL) framework for EL still lags behind INSGENEL significantly, reaffirming that the EL task remains a persistent hurdle for general LLMs.

Coherent Entity Disambiguation via Modeling Topic and Categorical Dependency

Previous entity disambiguation (ED) methods adopt a discriminative paradigm, where prediction is made based on matching scores between mention context and candidate entities using length-limited encoders. However, these methods often struggle to capture explicit discourse-level dependencies, resulting in incoherent predictions at the abstract level (e.g. topic or category). We propose CoherentED, an ED system equipped with novel designs aimed at enhancing the coherence of entity predictions. Our method first introduces an unsupervised variational autoencoder (VAE) to extract latent topic vectors of context sentences. This approach not only allows the encoder to handle longer documents more effectively, conserves valuable input space, but also keeps a topic-level coherence. Additionally, we incorporate an external category memory, enabling the system to retrieve relevant categories for undecided mentions. By employing step-by-step entity decisions, this design facilitates the modeling of entity-entity interactions, thereby maintaining maximum coherence at the category level. We achieve new state-of-the-art results on popular ED benchmarks, with an average improvement of 1.3 F1 points. Our model demonstrates particularly outstanding performance on challenging long-text scenarios.

We prove some long exact sequences as well as a Mayer-Vietoris sequence for the relative embedded homology groups of hypergraph pairs. Moreover, we briefly discuss the two-dimensional persistence for the relative embedded homology groups of hypergraph pairs.
