Quantum coherence across bosonic superconductor-anomalous metal-insulator transitions

After decades of explorations, suffering from low critical temperature and subtle nature, whether a metallic ground state exists in a two-dimensional system beyond Anderson localization is still a mystery. Supremely, phase coherence could be the key that unlocks its intriguing nature. This work reveals how quantum phase coherence evolves across bosonic superconductor-metal-insulator transitions via magneto-conductance quantum oscillations in high-Tc superconducting films. A robust intervening anomalous metallic state characterized by both resistance and oscillation amplitude saturations in the low temperature regime is detected. By contrast, with decreasing temperature the oscillation amplitude monotonically grows on the superconducting side, but decreases at low temperatures on the insulating side. It suggests that the saturation of phase coherence plays a prominent role in the formation of this anomalous metallic state.

mD-Track: Leveraging Multi-Dimensionality in Passive Indoor Wi-Fi Tracking

Wi-Fi localization and tracking face accuracy limitations dictated by antenna count (for angle-of-arrival methods) and frequency bandwidth (for time-of-arrival methods). This paper presents mD-Track a device-free Wi-Fi tracking system capable of jointly fusing information from as many dimensions as possible to overcome the resolution limit of each individual dimension. Through a novel path separation algorithm, mD-Track can resolve multipath at a much finer-grained resolution, isolating signals reflected off targets of interest. mD-Track can localize human passively at a high accuracy with just a single Wi-Fi transceiver pair. mD-Track also introduces novel methods to greatly streamline its estimation algorithms, achieving real-time operation. We implement mD-Track on both WARP and cheap off-the-shelf commodity Wi-Fi hardware and evaluate its performance in different indoor environments.

Stochastic maximum principle under probability distortion

Within the framework of the cumulative prospective theory of Kahneman and Tversky, this paper considers a continuous-time behavioral portfolio selection problem whose model includes both running and terminal terms in the objective functional. Despite the existence of S-shaped utility functions and probability distortions, a necessary condition for optimality is derived. The results are applied to various examples.

Stochastic Linear Quadratic Stackelberg Differential Game with Overlapping Information

This paper is concerned with the stochastic linear quadratic Stackelberg differential game with overlapping information, where the diffusion terms contain the control and state variables. Here the term "overlapping" means that there are common part between the follower's and the leader's information, while they have no inclusion relation. Optimal controls of the follower and the leader are obtained by the stochastic maximum principle, the direct calculation of the derivative of the cost functional and stochastic filtering. A new system of Riccati equations is introduced to represent the state estimate feedback of the Stackelberg equilibrium strategy. A special solvable case is then studied and is applied to the continuous-time principal-agent problem.

Stochastic maximum principle for generalized mean-field delay control problem

In this paper, we first give the existence and uniqueness theorems for generalized mean-filed delay stochastic differential equations (GMFDSDEs) and mean-field anticipated backward stochastic differential equations (MFABSDEs). Then we study the stochastic maximum principle for generalized mean-filed delay control problem. Since the state is distribution-depending, we define the adjoint equation as a MFABSDE, in which, all the derivatives of coefficients are in Fréchet sense. We deduce the stochastic maximum principle, and also obtain, under some additional assumptions, a sufficient condition for the optimality of the control.

A second-order stochastic maximum principle for generalized mean-field control problem

In this paper, we study the generalized mean-field stochastic control problem when the usual stochastic maximum principle (SMP) is not applicable due to the singularity of the Hamiltonian function. In this case, we derive a second order SMP. We introduce the adjoint process by the generalized mean-field backward stochastic differential equation. The keys in the proofs are the expansion of the cost functional in terms of a perturbation parameter, and the use of the range theorem for vector-valued measures.

Pathwise uniqueness for stochastic differential equations driven by pure jump processes

Based on the weak existence and weak uniqueness, we study the pathwise uniqueness of the solutions for a class of one-dimensional stochastic differential equations driven by pure jump processes. By using Tanaka's formula and the local time technique, we show that there is no gap between the strong uniqueness and weak uniqueness when the coefficients of the Poisson random measures satisfy a suitable condition

A kind of linear quadratic non-zero sum differential game of backward stochastic differential equation with asymmetric information

This paper focuses on a kind of linear quadratic non-zero sum differential game driven by backward stochastic differential equation with asymmetric information, which is a natural continuation of Wang and Yu [IEEE TAC (2010) 55: 1742-1747, Automatica (2012) 48: 342-352]. Different from Wang and Yu [IEEE TAC (2010) 55: 1742-1747, Automatica (2012) 48: 342-352], novel motivations for studying this kind of game are provided. Some feedback Nash equilibrium points are uniquely obtained by forward-backward stochastic differential equations, their filters and the corresponding Riccati equations with Markovian setting.

Linear Quadratic Optimal Control Problems for Mean-Field Backward Stochastic Differential Equations

This paper is concerned with linear quadratic optimal control problems for mean-field backward stochastic differential equations (MF-BSDEs, for short) with deterministic coefficients. The optimality system, which is a linear mean-field forward-backward stochastic differential equation with constraint, is obtained by a variational method. By decoupling the optimality system, two coupled Riccati equations and an MF-BSDE are derived. It turns out that the coupled two Riccati equations are uniquely solvable. Then a complete and explicit representation is obtained for the optimal control.

Detection and localization of continuous gravitational waves with pulsar timing arrays: the role of pulsar terms

A pulsar timing array is a Galactic-scale detector of nanohertz gravitational waves (GWs). Its target signals contain two components: the `Earth term' and the `pulsar term' corresponding to GWs incident on the Earth and pulsar respectively. In this work we present a Frequentist method for the detection and localization of continuous waves that takes into account the pulsar term and is significantly faster than existing methods. We investigate the role of pulsar terms by comparing a full-signal search with an Earth-term-only search for non-evolving black hole binaries. By applying the method to synthetic data sets, we find that (i) a full-signal search can slightly improve the detection probability (by about five percent); (ii) sky localization is biased if only Earth terms are searched for and the inclusion of pulsar terms is critical to remove such a bias; (iii) in the case of strong detections (with signal-to-noise ratio $\gtrsim$ 30), it may be possible to improve pulsar distance estimation through GW measurements.

Spin-orbit coupling control of anisotropy, ground state and frustration in 5d2 Sr2MgOsO6

The influence of spin-orbit coupling (SOC) on the physical properties of the 5d2 system Sr2MgOsO6 is probed via a combination of magnetometry, specific heat measurements, elastic and inelastic neutron scattering, and density functional theory calculations. Although a significant degree of frustration is expected, we find that Sr2MgOsO6 orders in a type I antiferromagnetic structure at the remarkably high temperature of 108 K. The measurements presented allow for the first accurate quantification of the size of the magnetic moment in a 5d2 system of 0.60(2) muB - a significantly reduced moment from the expected value for such a system. Furthermore, significant anisotropy is identified via a spin excitation gap, and we confirm by first principles calculations that SOC not only provides the magnetocrystalline anisotropy, but also plays a crucial role in determining both the ground state magnetic order and the size of the local moment in this compound. Through comparison to Sr2ScOsO6, it is demonstrated that SOC-induced anisotropy has the ability to relieve frustration in 5d2 systems relative to their 5d3 counterparts, providing an explanation of the high TN found in Sr2MgOsO6.

"Virus hunting" using radial distance weighted discrimination

Motivated by the challenge of using DNA-seq data to identify viruses in human blood samples, we propose a novel classification algorithm called "Radial Distance Weighted Discrimination" (or Radial DWD). This classifier is designed for binary classification, assuming one class is surrounded by the other class in very diverse radial directions, which is seen to be typical for our virus detection data. This separation of the 2 classes in multiple radial directions naturally motivates the development of Radial DWD. While classical machine learning methods such as the Support Vector Machine and linear Distance Weighted Discrimination can sometimes give reasonable answers for a given data set, their generalizability is severely compromised because of the linear separating boundary. Radial DWD addresses this challenge by using a more appropriate (in this particular case) spherical separating boundary. Simulations show that for appropriate radial contexts, this gives much better generalizability than linear methods, and also much better than conventional kernel based (nonlinear) Support Vector Machines, because the latter methods essentially use much of the information in the data for determining the shape of the separating boundary. The effectiveness of Radial DWD is demonstrated for real virus detection.

Large deviation principle of occupation measures for Non-linear monotone SPDEs

Using the hyper-exponential recurrence criterion, a large deviation principle for the occupation measure is derived for a class of non-linear monotone stochastic partial differential equations. The main results are applied to many concrete SPDEs such as stochastic $p$-Laplace equation, stochastic porous medium equation, stochastic fast-diffusion equation, and even stochastic real Ginzburg-Landau equation driven by $α$-stable noises.

A partially observed non-zero sum differential game of forward-backward stochastic differential equations and its application in finance

In this article, we concern a kind of partially observed non-zero sum stochastic differential game based on forward and backward stochastic differential equations (FBSDEs). It is required that each player has his own observation equation, and the corresponding open-loop Nash equilibrium control is required to adapted to the filtration that the observation process generated. To find this open-loop Nash equilibrium point, we prove the maximum principle as a necessary condition of the existence of this point, and give a verification theorem as a sufficient condition to verify it is the real open-loop Nash equilibrium point. Combined this with reality, a financial investment problem is raised. We can obtain the explicit observable investment strategy by using stochastic filtering theory and the results above.

Large deviation principle of occupation measure for stochastic real Ginzburg-Landau equation driven by $α$-stable noises

We establish a large deviation principle for the occupation measure of the stochastic real Ginzburg-Landau equation driven by $α$-stable noises. The proof is based on a hyper-exponential recurrence criterion. Our result indicates a phenomenon that strong dissipation beats heavy tailed noises to produce a large deviation, it seems to us that this phenomenon has not been reported in the known literatures.

Irreducibility of stochastic real Ginzburg-Landau equation driven by $α$-stable noises and applications

We establish the irreducibility of stochastic real Ginzburg-Landau equation with $α$-stable noises by a maximal inequality and solving a control problem. As applications, we prove that the system converges to its equilibrium measure with exponential rate under a topology stronger than total variation and obeys the moderate deviation principle by constructing some Lyapunov test functions.
