Shadow casted by a Konoplya-Zhidenko rotating non-Kerr black hole

We have investigated the shadow of a Konoplya-Zhidenko rotating non-Kerr black hole with an extra deformation parameter. The spacetime structure arising from the deformed parameter affects sharply the black hole shadow. With the increase of the deformation parameter, the size of the shadow of black hole increase and its shape becomes more rounded for arbitrary rotation parameter. The D-shape shadow of black hole emerges only in the case $a<\frac{2\sqrt{3}}{3}M$ with the proper deformation parameter. Especially, the black hole shadow possesses a cusp shape with small eye lashes in the cases with $a>M$, and the shadow becomes less cuspidal with the increase of the deformation parameter. Our result show that the presence of the deformation parameter yields a series of significant patterns for the shadow casted by a Konoplya-Zhidenko rotating non-Kerr black hole.

Energy extraction from a Konoplya-Zhidenko rotating non-Kerr black hole

We have investigated the properties of the ergosphere and the energy extraction by Penrose process in a Konoplya-Zhidenko rotating non-Kerr black hole spacetime. We find that the ergosphere becomes thin and the maximum efficiency of energy extraction decreases as the deformation parameter increases. For the case with $a M$, we find that the maximum efficiency can reach so high that it is almost unlimited as the positive deformation parameter is close to zero, which is a new feature of energy extraction in such kind of rotating non-Kerr black hole spacetime.

Analog cosmological particle generation in a superconducting circuit

We propose the use of a waveguidelike transmission line based on direct-current superconducting quantum interference devices (dc-SQUID) and demonstrate that the node flux in this transmission line behaves in the same way as quantum fields in an expanding (or contracting) universe. We show how to detect the analog cosmological particle generation and analyze its feasibility with current circuit quantum electrodynamics (cQED) technology. Our setup in principle paves a new way for the exploration of analogue quantum gravitational effects.

Consistency between dynamical and thermodynamical stabilities for perfect fluid in $f(R)$ theories

We investigate the stability criterions for perfect fluid in $f(R)$ theories which is an important generalization of general relativity. Firstly, using Wald's general variation principle, we recast Seifert's work and obtain the dynamical stability criterion. Then using our generalized thermodynamical criterion, we obtain the concrete expressions of the criterion. We show that the dynamical stability criterion is exactly the same as the thermodynamical stability criterion. This result suggests that there is an inherent connection between the thermodynamics and gravity in $f(R)$ theories. It should be pointed out that using the thermodynamical method to determine the stability for perfect fluid is simpler and more directly than the dynamical method.

Detect black holes using photons for coupling model of electromagnetic and gravitational fields

For a model of the electromagnetic field coupled to Weyl tensor, Maxwell equations are modified and photons at low frequencies no longer propagate along light cone. If we detect a black hole using these photons, some difficulties appear because we can not determine the position of event horizon which is defined by null surface. To overcome these difficulties, the simplest way may be an effective description by introducing an effective spacetime in which the photons propagate along the light cone. Then, we find, comparing the results with those of the original spacetime, that the event horizon and temperature do not change, but the area of the event horizon and Bekenstein-Hawking entropy become different. We show that the total entropy for this system, which is still the same as that of original spacetime, consists of two parts, one is the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy and the other is the entropy arising from the coupling of electromagnetic field and Weyl tensor. We also present the effective descriptions for the Smarr relation and first law of thermodynamics.

Strong gravitational lensing for the photons coupled to Weyl tensor in a Kerr black hole spacetime

We present firstly equation of motion for the photon coupled to Weyl tensor in a Kerr black hole spacetime and then study further the corresponding strong gravitational lensing. We find that black hole rotation makes propagation of the coupled photons more complicated, which brings some new features for physical quantities including the marginally circular photon orbit, the deflection angle, the observational gravitational lensing variables and the time delay between two relativistic images. There is a critical value of the coupling parameter for existence of the marginally circular photon orbit outside the event horizon, which depends on the rotation parameter of black hole and the polarization direction of photons. As the value of coupling parameter is near the critical value, we find that the marginally circular photon orbit for the retrograde photon increases with the rotation parameter, which modifies a common feature of the marginally circular photon orbit in a rotating black hole spacetime since it always decreases monotonously with the rotation parameter in the case without Weyl coupling. Combining with the supermassive central object in our Galaxy, we estimated the observables including time delays between the relativistic images in the strong gravitational lensing as the photons couple to Weyl tensor.

Chaos in the motion of a test scalar particle coupling to Einstein tensor in Schwarzschild-Melvin black hole spacetime

We present firstly the equation of motion for a test scalar particle coupling to Einstein tensor in the Schwarzschild-Melvin black hole spacetime through the short-wave approximation. Through analysing Poincaré sections, the power spectrum, the fast Lyapunov exponent indicator and the bifurcation diagram, we investigate the effects of coupling parameter on the chaotic behavior of the particles. With the increase of the coupling strength, we find that the motion of coupled particle for the chosen parameters becomes more regular and order for the negative couple constant. While, for the positive one, the motion of coupled particles first undergoes a series of transitions between chaotic motion and regular motion and then falls into horizon or escapes to spatial infinite. Our results show that the coupling brings about richer effects for the motion of the particles.

Entanglement Enhanced Thermometry in the Detection of the Unruh Effect

We show how the use of entanglement can enhance the precision of the detection of the Unruh effect with an accelerated probe. We use the Unruh-DeWitt model of a two-level atom interacting relativistically with a quantum field and treat the atom as an open quantum system to derive the master equation governing its evolution. By means of quantum state discrimination, we detect the accelerated motion of the atom by examining its time evolving state. It turns out that the optimal strategy for the detection of the Unruh effect, to which the accelerated atom is sensitive, involves letting the atom-thermometer equilibrate with the thermal bath. However, introducing initial entanglement between the detector and an external degree of freedom leads to an enhancement of the sensitivity of the detector. Also, the maximum precision is attained within finite time, before equilibration takes place.

Holographic p-wave superfluid in Gauss-Bonnet gravity

We construct the holographic p-wave superfluid in Gauss-Bonnet gravity via a Maxwell complex vector field model and investigate the effect of the curvature correction on the superfluid phase transition in the probe limit. We obtain the rich phase structure and find that the higher curvature correction hinders the condensate of the vector field but makes it easier for the appearance of translating point from the second-order transition to the first-order one or for the emergence of the Cave of Winds. Moreover, for the supercurrents versus the superfluid velocity, we observe that our results near the critical temperature are independent of the Gauss-Bonnet parameter and agree well with the Ginzburg-Landau prediction.

Effects of Homogeneous Plasma on Strong Gravitational Lensing of Kerr Black Holes

Considering a Kerr black hole surrounded by the homogenous unmagnetised plasma medium, we study the strong gravitational lensing on the equatorial plane of the Kerr black hole. We find that the presence of the uniform plasma increases the photon-sphere radius $r_{ps}$, the coefficient $\bar{a},\bar{b}$, the angular position of the relativistic images $θ_{\infty}$, the deflection angle $α(θ)$ and the angular separation $s$. However the relative magnitudes $r_m$ decrease in presence of the uniform plasma medium. It is also shown that the impact of the uniform plasma on the effect of strong gravitational become smaller as the spin of the Kerr black increace in prograde orbit($a>0$). Especially, for the extreme black hole(a=0.5), the effect of strong gravitational lensing in homogenous plasma medium is the same as the case in vacuum for the prograde orbit.

Three-dimensional charged Einstein-aether black holes and Smarr formula

We investigate the three-dimensional behavior of gravity coupled to a dynamical unit timelike vector: the aether, and present two new classes of exact charged solutions. When c_{13}=0,Λ'=0$, we find the solutions is the usual BTZ black hole but now with an universal horizon. In the frame of black hole chemistry, we then calculate the temperature of the universal horizons and, construct the Smarr formulas and first law in the three cases: quasi-asymptotically flat, aether asymptotically flat and quasi-BTZ black hole spacetime. We found these universal horizons obey an exact (or slightly modified) first law of black hole mechanics and may have an entropy and, black hole mass can be interpreted as enthalpy of spacetime. Then the holography may be extended to these horizons under violating Lorentz symmetry.

Strong gravitational lensing by a Konoplya-Zhidenko rotating non-Kerr compact object

Konoplya and Zhidenko have proposed recently a rotating non-Kerr black hole metric beyond General Relativity and make an estimate for the possible deviations from the Kerr solution with the data of GW 150914. We here study the strong gravitational lensing in such a rotating non-Kerr spacetime with an extra deformation parameter. We find that the condition of existence of horizons is not inconsistent with that of the marginally circular photon orbit. Moreover, the deflection angle of the light ray near the weakly naked singularity covered by the marginally circular orbit diverges logarithmically in the strong-field limit. In the case of the completely naked singularity, the deflection angle near the singularity tends to a certain finite value, whose sign depends on the rotation parameter and the deformation parameter. These properties of strong gravitational lensing are different from those in the Johannsen-Psaltis rotating non-Kerr spacetime and in the Janis-Newman-Winicour spacetime. Modeling the supermassive central object of the Milk Way Galaxy as a Konoplya-Zhidenko rotating non-Kerr compact object, we estimated the numerical values of observables for the strong gravitational lensing including the time delay between two relativistic images.

Shadow casted by a twisted and rotating black hole

Zhang have obtained recently a twisted rotating black hole metric, which is a vacuum solution in four-dimensional Einstein gravity. This black hole solution has a rotation parameter, but without the total angular moment. Here, we have investigated the shadow casted by a twisted rotating black hole. Our results show that the shape of the shadow of the twisted rotating black hole is a standard round disk and does not depend on the inclination angle of the observer. It means that although the twisted rotating black hole has a rotation parameter, its shadow possesses the same behaviors as the common static black hole rather than the usual Kerr-like black holes. Moreover, we find that the marginally circular orbit radius of photon is independent of the direction of photon around the black hole. The value of the marginally circular orbit radius of photon and the size of shadow increase monotonously with the rotation parameter.

Double shadow of a regular phantom black hole as photons couple to Weyl tensor

We have studied the shadow of a regular phantom black hole as photons couple to Weyl tensor. We find that the coupling yields that photons with different polarization directions propagate along different paths in the spacetime so that there exits double shadow for a black hole, which is quite different from that in the non-coupling case where only a single shadow emerges. The umbra of black hole increases with the phantom charge and decreases with the coupling strength. The dependence of the penumbra on the phantom charge and the coupling strength is converse to that of the umbra. Combining with the supermassive central object in our Galaxy, we estimated the shadow of the black hole as the photons couple to Weyl tensor. Our results show that the coupling brings richer behaviors of the propagation of coupled photon and the shadow of the black hole in the regular phantom black hole spacetime.

Detecting the Curvature of de Sitter Universe with Two Entangled Atoms

Casimir-Polder interaction arises from the vacuum fluctuations of quantum field that depend on spacetime curvature and thus is spacetime-dependent. Here we show how to use the resonance Casimir-Polder interaction (RCPI) between two entangled atoms to detect spacetime curvature. We find that the RCPI of two static entangled atoms in the de Sitter-invariant vacuum depends on the de Sitter spacetime curvature relevant to the temperature felt by the static observer. It is characterized by a $1/L^2$ power law decay when beyond a characteristic length scale associated to the breakdown of a local inertial description of the two-atom system. However, the RCPI of the same setup embedded in a thermal bath in the Minkowski universe is temperature-independent and is always characterized by a $1/L$ power law decay. Therefore, although a single static atom in the de Sitter-invariant vacuum responds as if it were bathed in thermal radiation in a Minkowski universe, using the distinct difference between RCPI of two entangled atoms one can in principle distinguish these two universes.

Inhibiting decoherence of two-level atom in thermal bath by presence of boundaries

We study, in the paradigm of open quantum systems, the dynamics of quantum coherence of a static polarizable two-level atom which is coupled with a thermal bath of fluctuating electromagnetic field in the absence and presence of boundaries. The purpose is to find the conditions under which the decoherence can be inhibited effectively. We find that without boundaries, quantum coherence of the two-level atom inevitably decreases due to the effect of thermal bath. However, the quantum decoherence, in the presence of a boundary, could be effectively inhibited when the atom is transversely polarizable and near this boundary. In particular, we find that in the case of two parallel reflecting boundaries, the atom with a parallel dipole polarization at arbitrary location between these two boundaries will be never subjected to decoherence provided we take some special distances for the two boundaries.

Testing gravity of a regular and slowly rotating phantom black hole by quasi-periodic oscillations

We extend firstly the regular phantom black hole solution to a slowly rotating black hole case and find that the phantom field depresses the angular velocity of the event horizon and suppresses the super-radiation of black hole. We also probe the dependence of quasi-periodic oscillations frequencies in relativistic precession model on the phantom parameter. With the observation data of GRO J1655-40, we make a constraint on the parameters of the regular and slowly rotating phantom black hole. Our results show that although the best-fit value of the phantom parameter $b$ is small, the allowed value of $b$ in the $1σ$ region is $b<0.619$, which means that the phantom theoretical model can not be excluded by the constraint from quasi-periodic oscillations with the observation data of GRO J1655-40.

Chaotic motion of particles in the accelerating and rotating black holes spacetime

We have investigated the motion of timelike particles along geodesic in the background of accelerating and rotating black hole spacetime. We confirmed that the chaos exists in the geodesic motion of the particles by Poincaré sections, the power spectrum, the fast Lyapunov exponent indicator and the bifurcation diagram. Moreover, we probe the effects of the acceleration and rotation parameters on the chaotic behavior of a timelike geodesic particle in the black hole spacetime. Our results show that the acceleration brings richer physics for the geodesic motion of particles.
