A new asymptotical flat and spherically symmetric solution in the generalized Einstein-Cartan-Kibble-Sciama gravity and gravitational lensing

We firstly present a new asymptotical flat and spherically symmetric solution in the generalized Einstein-Cartan-Kibble-Sciama (ECKS) theory of gravity and then investigate the propagation of photon in this background. This solution possesses three independent parameters which affect sharply photon sphere, deflection angle of light ray and gravitational lensing. Since the condition of existence of horizons is not inconsistent with that of photon sphere, there exists a special case where there is horizon but no photon sphere in this spacetime. Especially, we find that in this special case, the deflection angle of a light ray near the event horizon tends to a finite value rather than diverges, which is not explored in other spacetimes. We also study the strong gravitational lensing in this spacetime with the photon sphere and then probe how the spacetime parameters affect the coefficients in the strong field limit.

Chaotic shadow of a non-Kerr rotating compact object with quadrupole mass moment

We have studied numerically the shadows of a non-Kerr rotating compact object with quadrupole mass moment, which belongs to Manko-Novikov family. The non-integrable photon motion caused by quadrupole mass moment affects sharply the shadow of the compact object. As the deviation parameter related to quadrupole mass moment is negative, the shadow of compact object is prolate and there are two disconnected main shadows with eyebrows located symmetrically on both sides of the equatorial plane. As the deviation parameter is positive, the shadow becomes oblate and the main shadow is joined together in the equatorial plane. Moreover, in this positive cases, there is a disorder region in the left of shadow which increases with the quadrupole-deviation parameter. Interestingly, we also find that Einstein ring is broken as the deviation from Kerr metric is larger than a certain critical value. This critical value decreases with the rotation parameter of black hole. Especially, the observer on the direction of rotation axis will find some concentric bright rings in the black disc. Finally, supposing that the gravitational field of the supermassive central object of the galaxy described by this metric, we estimated the numerical values of the observables for the black hole shadow.

Satellite-based quantum steering under the influence of spacetime curvature of the Earth

Spacetime curvature of the Earth deforms wavepackets of photons sent from the Earth to satellites, thus influencing the quantum state of light. We show that Gaussian steering of photon pairs, which are initially prepared in a two-mode squeezed state, is affected by the curved spacetime background of the Earth. We demonstrate that quantum steerability of the state increases for a specific range of height $h$ and then gradually approaches a finite value with further increasing height of the satellite's orbit. Comparing with the peak frequency parameter, the Gaussian steering changes more for different squeezing parameters, while the gravitational frequency effect leads to quantum steering asymmetry between the photon pairs. In addition, we find that the influence of spacetime curvature on the steering in the Kerr spacetime is very different from the non-rotating case because special relativistic effects are involved.

Strong gravitational lensing for the charged black holes with scalar hair

The strong gravitational lensing for charged black holes with scalar hair in Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton theory are studied. We find, with the increase of scalar hair, that the radius of the photon sphere, minimum impact parameter, angular image position and relative magnitude increase, while the deflection angle and angular image separation decrease. Our results can be reduced to those of the Schwarzschild black hole in two cases, one of them is that the scalar hair disappears, the other is that the coupling constants take particular values with arbitrary scalar hair.

Radiative process of two entanglement atoms in de Sitter spacetime

We investigate the radiative processes of a quantum system composed by two identical two-level atoms in the de Sitter spacetime, interacting with a conformally coupled massless scalar field prepared in the de Sitter-invariant vacuum. We discuss the structure of the rate of variations of the atomic energy for two static atoms. Following a procedure developed by Dalibard, Dupont-Roc and Cohen-Tannoudji, our intention is to identify in a quantitative way the contributions of vacuum fluctuations and the radiation reaction to the generation of quantum entanglement and to the degradation of entangled states. We find that when the distance between two atoms larger than the characteristic length scale, the rate of variation of atomic energy in the de Sitter-invariant vacuum behaves differently compared with that in the thermal Minkowski spacetime. In particular, the generation and degradation of quantum entanglement can be enhanced or inhibited, which are dependent not only on the specific entangled state but also on the distance between the atoms.

Strong gravitational lensing for black hole with scalar charge in massive gravity

We investigate the strong gravitational lensing for black hole with scalar charge in massive gravity. We find that the scalar charge and the type of the black hole significantly affect the radius of the photon sphere, deflection angle, angular image position, angular image separation, relative magnifications and time delay in strong gravitational lensing. Our results can be reduced to that of the Schwarzschild and Reissner-Nordstr$\ddot{o}$m black holes in some special cases.

Holographic insulator/superconductor transition with exponential nonlinear electrodynamics probed by entanglement entropy

From the viewpoint of holography, we study the behaviors of the entanglement entropy in insulator/superconductor transition with exponential nonlinear electrodynamics (ENE). We find that the entanglement entropy is a good probe to the properties of the holographic phase transition. Both in the half space and the belt space, the non-monotonic behavior of the entanglement entropy in superconducting phase versus the chemical potential is general in this model. Furthermore, the behavior of the entanglement entropy for the strip geometry shows that the confinement/deconfinement phase transition appears in both insulator and superconductor phases. And the critical width of the the confinement/deconfinement phase transition depends on the chemical potential and the exponential coupling term. More interestingly, the behaviors of the entanglement entropy in their corresponding insulator phases are independent of the exponential coupling factor but depends on the the width of the subsystem $\mathcal{A}$.

Shadows of Bonnor black dihole by chaotic lensing

We have studied numerically the shadows of Bonnor black dihole through the technique of backward ray-tracing. The presence of magnetic dipole yields non-integrable photon motion, which affects sharply the shadow of the compact object. Our results show that there exists a critical value for the shadow. As the magnetic dipole parameter is less than the critical value, the shadow is a black disk, but as the magnetic dipole parameter is larger than the critical one, the shadow becomes a concave disk with eyebrows possessing a self-similar fractal structure. These behavior are very similar to those of the equal-mass and non-spinning Majumdar-Papapetrou binary black holes. However, we find that the two larger shadows and the smaller eyebrow-like shadows are joined together by the middle black zone for the Bonnor black dihole, which is different from that in the Majumdar-Papapetrou binary black holes spacetime where they are disconnected. With the increase of magnetic dipole parameter, the middle black zone connecting the main shadows and the eyebrow-like shadows becomes narrow. Our result show that the spacetime properties arising from the magnetic dipole yields the interesting patterns for the shadow casted by Bonnor black dihole.

Refractive index in generalized superconductors with Born-Infeld electrodynamics

We investigate, in the probe limit, the negative refraction in the generalized superconductors with the Born-Infeld electrodynamics. We observe that the system has a negative Depine-Lakhtakia index in the superconducting phase at small frequencies and the greater the Born-Infeld corrections the larger the range of frequencies or the range of temperatures for which the negative refraction occurs. Furthermore, we find that the tunable Born-Infeld parameter can be used to improve the propagation of light in the holographic setup. Our analysis indicates that the Born-Infeld electrodynamics plays an important role in determining the optical properties of the boundary theory.

Relationship between Bondi-Sachs quantities and source of gravitational radiation in asymptotically de Sitter spacetime

Gravitational radiation plays an important role in astrophysics. Based on the fact that our universe is expanding, the gravitational radiation when a positive cosmological constant is presented has been studied along with two different ways recently, one is the Bondi-Sachs (BS) framework in which the result is shown by BS quantities in the asymptotic null structure, the other is the perturbation approach in which the result is presented by the quadrupoles of source. Therefore, it is worth to interpret the quantities in asymptotic null structure in terms of the information of the source. In this paper, we investigate this problem and find the explicit expressions of BS quantities in terms of the quadrupoles of source in asymptotically de Sitter spacetime. We also estimate how far away the source is, the cosmological constant may affect the detection of the gravitational wave.

Selected spherical photon orbits around a deformed Kerr black hole

In this paper, we investigate so-called spherical photon orbits around a deformed Kerr black hole with an extra deformation parameter. The change in the azimuth $Δφ$ and the angle of dragging of nodes per revolution $ΔΩ$ of a complete latitudinal oscillated orbit is calculated analytically. Finally, representative six examples orbits are plotted out to illustrate how spherical photon orbits look like and exhibit some interesting behavior. Especially, this spherical photon orbits are absent in circular orbits and different from the Kerr case.

The influence of Unruh effect on quantum steering for accelerated two-level detectors with different measurements

We study the dynamics of steering between two correlated Unruh-Dewitt detectors when one of them locally interacts with external scalar field via different quantifiers. We find that the quantum steering, either measured by the entropic steering inequality or the Cavalcanti-Jones-Wiseman-Reid inequality, is fragile under the influence of Unruh thermal noise. The quantum steering is found always asymmetric and the asymmetry is extremely sensitive to the initial state parameter. In addition, the steering-type quantum correlations experience "sudden death" for some accelerations, which are quite different from the behaviors of other quantum correlations in the same system. It is worth noting that the domination value of the tight quantum steering exists a transformation point with increasing acceleration. We also find that the robustness of quantum steerability under the Unruh thermal noise can be realized by choosing the smallest energy gap in the detectors.

Thermodynamical stability for perfect fluid

According to maximum entropy principle, it has been proved that the gravitational field equations could be derived by the extrema of total entropy for perfect fluid, which implies that thermodynamic relations contain information of gravity. In this manuscript, we obtain a criterion for thermodynamical stability of an adiabatic, self-gravitating perfect fluid system by the second variation of total entropy. We show, for Einstein's gravity with spherical symmetry spacetime, that the criterion is consistent with that for dynamical stability derived by Chandrasekhar and Wald. We also find that the criterion could be applied to cases without spherical symmetry, or under general perturbations. The result further establishes the connection between thermodynamics and gravity.

Gravitational lensing by a black hole with torsion

In this paper we have investigated the gravitational lensing in a spherically symmetric spacetime with torsion in the generalized Einstein-Cartan-Kibble-Sciama (ECKS) theory of gravity by considering higher order terms. The torsion parameters change the spacetime structure which affects the photon sphere, the deflection angle and the strong gravitational lensing. The condition of existence of horizons is not inconsistent with that of the photon sphere. Especially, there exists a novel case in which there is horizon but no photon sphere for the considered spacetime. In this special case, the deflection angle of the light ray near the event horizon also diverges logarithmically, but the coefficients in the strong-field limit are different from those in the cases with photon sphere. Moreover, in the far-field limit, we find that the deflection angle for certain torsion parameters approaches zero from the negative side, which is different from those in the usual spacetimes.

Repulsive effect for the unbound high energy particles along the rotation axis in the Kerr-Taub-NUT spacetime

We have investigated the acceleration of the unbound high energy particles moving along the rotation axis in the Kerr-Taub-NUT spacetime, and then study the dependence of the repulsive effects on the NUT charge for the particles in the spacetime. Whether the repulsive effects with the NUT charge become stronger depends on the Carter constant, the position and velocity of the particles themselves. We also present numerically the changes of the observable velocity and acceleration with the NUT charge for the unbound particles in the Kerr-Taub-NUT spacetime.

Dirac perturbations on Schwarzschild-Anti-de Sitter spacetimes: Generic boundary conditions and new quasinormal modes

We study Dirac quasinormal modes of Schwarzschild-Anti-de Sitter (Schwarzschild-AdS) black holes, following the generic principle for allowed boundary conditions proposed in \cite{PhysRevD.92.124006}. After deriving the equations of motion for Dirac fields on the aforementioned background, we impose vanishing energy flux boundary conditions to solve these equations. We find a set of two Robin boundary conditions are allowed. These two boundary conditions are used to calculate Dirac normal modes on empty AdS and quasinormal modes on Schwarzschild-AdS black holes. In the former case, we recover the known normal modes of empty AdS; in the latter case, the two sets of Robin boundary conditions lead to two different branches of quasinormal modes. The impact on these modes of the black hole size, the angular momentum quantum number and the overtone number are discussed. Our results show that vanishing energy flux boundary conditions are a robust principle, applicable not only to bosonic fields but also to fermionic fields.

Note on the gravitational and electromagnetic radiation for the Einstein-Maxwell equations with cosmological constant

In the middle of last century, Bondi and his coworkers proposed an out going boundary condition for the Einstein equations. Based on such boundary condition the authors theoretically solved the puzzle of the existence problem of gravitational wave. Currently many works on gravitational wave source modeling use Bondi's result to do the analysis including the gravitational wave calculation in numerical relativity. Recently more and more observations imply that the Einstein equations should be modified with an nonzero cosmological constant. In this work we use Bondi's original method to treat the Einstein equations with cosmological constant for theoretical curiosity. We find that the gravitational wave does not essentially exist if Bondi's original out going boundary condition is imposed. We find this unphysical result is due to the non-consistency between Bondi's original out going boundary condition and the Einstein equations with cosmological constant. Based on theoretical analysis, we propose an new Bondi-type out going boundary condition for the Einstein equations with cosmological constant. With this new boundary condition, the gravitational wave behavior for the Einstein equations with cosmological constant is similar to the Einstein equations without cosmological constant. In particular, when the cosmological constant goes to zero, the behavior of the Einstein equations without cosmological constant is recovered. Together with gravitational wave, electromagnetic wave is also analyzed. The boundary conditions for electromagnetic wave does not depend on the cosmological constant.

Monogamy of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering in the background of an asymptotically flat black hole

We study the behavior of monogamy deficit and monogamy asymmetry for Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering of Gaussian states under the influence of the Hawking effect. We demonstrate that the monogamy of quantum steering shows an extreme scenario in the curved spacetime: the first part of a tripartite system cannot individually steer two other parties, but it can steer the collectivity of the remaining two parties. We also find that the monogamy deficit of Gaussian steering, a quantifier of genuine tripartite steering, are generated due to the influence of the Hawking thermal bath. Our results elucidate the structure of quantum steering in tripartite quantum systems in curved spacetime.
