Image of Bonnor black dihole with a thin accretion disk and its polarization information

We have studied the image of Bonnor black dihole surrounded by a thin accretion disk where the electromagnetic emission is assumed to be dominated respectively by black body radiation and synchrotron radiation. Our results show that the intensity of Bonnor black dihole image increases with the magnetic parameter and the inclination angle in both radiation models. The image of Bonnor black dihole in the synchrotron radiation model is one order of magnitude brighter than that in the black body radiation model, but its intensity in the former decreases more rapidly with the radial coordinate. Especially, for the synchrotron radiation model, the intensity of the secondary image is stronger than that of the direct image at certain an inclination angle. We also present the polarization patterns for the images of Bonnor black dihole arising from the synchrotron radiation, which depend sharply on the magnetic parameter and inclination angle. Finally, we make a comparison between the polarimetric images of Bonnor black dihole and M87*. Our result further confirms that the image of black hole depends on the black hole's properties itself, the matter around black hole and the corresponding radiation occurred in the accretion disk.

Probing Lorentz-Invariance-Violation Induced Nonthermal Unruh Effect in Quasi-Two-Dimensional Dipolar Condensates

The Unruh effect states an accelerated particle detector registers a thermal response when moving through the Minkowski vacuum, and its thermal feature is believed to be inseparable from Lorentz symmetry: Without the latter, the former disappears. Here we propose to observe analogue circular Unruh effect using an impurity atom in a quasi-two-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) with dominant dipole-dipole interactions between atoms or molecules in the ultracold gas. Quantum fluctuations in the condensate possess a Bogoliubov spectrum $ω_{\mathbf k}=c_0|{\mathbf k}|f(\hbar\,c_0|{\mathbf k}|/M_\ast)$, working as an analogue Lorentz-violating quantum field with the Lorentz-breaking scale $M_\ast$, and the impurity acts as an effective Unruh-DeWitt detector thereof. When the detector travels close to the sound speed, observation of the Unruh effect in our quantum fluid platform becomes experimentally feasible. In particular, the deviation of the Bogoliubov spectrum from the Lorentz-invariant case is highly engineerable through the relative strength of the dipolar and contact interactions, and thus a viable laboratory tool is furnished to experimentally investigate whether the thermal characteristic of Unruh effect is robust to the breaking of Lorentz symmetry.

The surface geometry and shadow of a Schwarzschild black hole with halo

We have studied the surface geometry and shadows of Schwarzschild black hole with a halo containing the quadrupolar and octopolar terms. We found the quadrupole term makes the Schwarzschild black hole prolate for the quadrupole strength $\mathcal{Q}<0$ and oblate for $\mathcal{Q}>0$, and the octopole term makes shadow stretch upward for the octopolar strength $\mathcal{O}<0$ and stretch downward for $\mathcal{O}>0$. The shadow of Schwarzschild black hole with halo stretches and squeezes along the horizontal direction for $\mathcal{Q}<0$ and $\mathcal{Q}>0$ respectively. Meanwhile, black hole shadow shifts upward for $\mathcal{O}<0$ and shifts downward for $\mathcal{O}>0$. We exhibited the light rays that form the shadow boundary to explain the emergence of the extraordinary patterns of black hole shadow with the quadrupole and octopole terms. From the observable width $W$, height $H$, oblateness $K$ and distortion parameter $δ_{c}$ of black hole shadow, one can determine the quadrupole and octopolar strengths of Schwarzschild black hole with halo. Our results show that the quadrupolar and octopolar terms yield a series of interesting patterns for the shadow of a Schwarzschild black hole with halo.

Polarized image of an equatorial emitting ring around a 4D Gauss-Bonnet black hole

We have studied the polarized image of an equatorial emitting ring around a 4D Gauss-Bonnet black hole. Our results show that the effects of Gauss-Bonnet parameter on the polarized image depend on the magnetic field configuration, the observation inclination angle, and the fluid velocity. As the magnetic field lies in the equatorial plane, the observed polarization intensity increases monotonously with Gauss-Bonnet parameter in the low inclination angle case, and its monotonicity disappears in the case with high inclination angle. However, as the magnetic field is vertical to the equatorial plane, the polarization intensity is a monotonously increasing function of Gauss-Bonnet parameter in the high inclination angle case. The changes of the electric vector position angle with Gauss-Bonnet parameter in both cases are more complicated. We also probe the effects of Gauss-Bonnet parameter on the Strokes $Q$-$U$ loops.

Polarized image of a rotating black hole in Scalar-Tensor-Vector-Gravity theory

The polarized images of a synchrotron emitting ring are studied in the spacetime of a rotating black hole in the Scalar-Tensor-Vector-Gravity (STVG) theory. The black hole owns an additional dimensionless MOG parameter described its deviation from Kerr black hole. The effects of the MOG parameter on the observed polarization vector and Strokes $Q-U$ loops depend heavily on the spin parameter, the magnetic field configuration, the fluid velocity and the observation inclination angle. For the fixed MOG parameter, the changes of the polarization vector in the image plane are similar to those in the Kerr black hole case. The comparison of the polarization images between Kerr-MOG black hole and M87* implies that there remains some possibility for the STVG-MOG theory.

New self-consistent effective one-body theory for spinless binaries based on the post-Minkowskian approximation

The effective one-body theories, introduced by Buonanno and Damour, are novel approaches to constructing a gravitational waveform template. By taking a gauge in which $ψ_{1}^{B}$ and $ψ_{3}^{B}$ vanish, we find a decoupled equation with separable variables for $ψ^{B}_{4}$ for gravitational perturbation in the effective metric obtained in the post-Minkowskian approximation. Furthermore, we set up a new self-consistent effective one-body theory for spinless binaries, which can be applicable to any post-Minkowskian orders. This theory not only releases the assumption that $v/c$ should be a small quantity but also resolves the contradiction that the Hamiltonian, radiation-reaction force, and waveform are constructed from different physical models in the effective one-body theory with the post-Newtonian approximation. Compared with our previous theory (Science China, 65, 260411, (2022)), the computational effort for the radiation-reaction force and waveform in this new theory will be tremendously reduced.

Probing cosmic string spacetime through parameter estimation

Quantum metrology studies the ultimate precision limit of physical quantities by using quantum strategy. In this paper we apply the quantum metrology technologies to the relativistic framework for estimating the deficit angle parameter of cosmic string spacetime. We use a two-level atom coupled to electromagnetic fields as the probe and derive its dynamical evolution by treating it as an open quantum system. We estimate the deficit angle parameter by calculating its quantum Fisher information(QFI). It is found that the quantum Fisher information depends on the deficit angle, evolution time, detector initial state, polarization direction, and its position. We then identify the optimal estimation strategies, i.e., maximize the quantum Fisher information via all the associated parameters, and therefore optimize the precision of estimation. Our results show that for different polarization cases the QFIs have different behaviors and different orders of magnitude, which may shed light on the exploration of cosmic string spacetime.

Polarization distribution in the image of a synchrotron emitting ring around a regular black hole

The polarized images of a synchrotron emitting ring are studied in the regular Hayward and Bardeen black hole spacetimes. These regular black holes carry a magnetic field in terms of gravity coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics. Results show that the main features of the polarization images of the emitting rings are similar in these two regular black hole spacetimes. As the magnetic charge parameter increase, the polarization intensity and the electric vector position angle in the image plane increase in Hayward and Bardeen black hole spacetimes. Moreover, the polarization intensity and electric vector position angle in the image of the emitting ring in the Hayward black hole spacetime are closer to those in the Schwarzschild case. The effects of the magnetic charge parameter on the Strokes $Q-U$ loops are also slightly smaller in the Hayward black hole spacetime. This information stored in the polarization images around Hayward and Bardeen black holes could help understand regular black holes and the gravity coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics.

Gravity enhanced quantum spatial target detection

Quantum illumination can utilize entangled light to detect the low-reflectivity target that is hidden in a bright thermal background. This technique is applied to the detection of an object in the curved spacetime of the Earth, in order to explore how the curvature of spacetime affects quantum illumination. It is found that the spatial quantum illumination with entangled state transmitter outperforms that with coherent-state transmitter in the near-Earth curved spacetime. Moreover, either the quantum illumination system or the coherent-state system is employed, and gravity can enhance the spacetime target detection by reducing the thermal signal at the receiver. Besides, our model in principle can be applied to microwave quantum illumination and thus provides, to some degree, a theoretical foundation for the upcoming spatial quantum radar technologies.

Tidal effects of dark matter halo around a galactic black hole

We have investigated the tidal forces and geodesic deviation motion in the spacetime of a black hole in the galaxy with dark matter halo. Our results show that the tidal force and geodesic deviation motion depend on the dark matter halo mass and the typical lengthscale of galaxy. The effect of the typical lengthscale of galaxy on tidal force is opposite to that of dark matter mass. For the radial tidal force, with the increasing mass of dark matter, it increases in the region far from the black hole, but decreases in the region near black hole. For the angular tidal force, its absolute value of angular tidal force monotonously increases with the dark matter halo mass. Especially, the angular tidal force also depends on the particle's energy and the effects of dark matter become more distinct for the test particle with high energy, which is different from those in the usual static black hole spacetimes. We also present the change of geodesic deviation vector with the dark matter halo mass and the typical lengthscale of galaxy under two kinds of initial conditions.

Constraint on parameters of a rotating black hole in Einstein-bumblebee theory by quasi-periodic oscillations

We have studied quasi-periodic oscillations frequencies in a rotating black hole with Lorentz symmetry breaking parameter in Einstein-bumblebee gravity by relativistic precession model. We find that in the rotating case with non-zero spin parameter both of the periastron and nodal precession frequencies increase with the Lorentz symmetry breaking parameter, but the azimuthal frequency decreases. In the non-rotating black hole case, the nodal precession frequency disappears for arbitrary Lorentz symmetry breaking parameter. With the observation data of GRO J1655-40, XTE J1550-564, and GRS 1915+105, we find that the constraint on the Lorentz symmetry breaking parameter is more precise with data of GRO J1655-40 in which the best-fit value of the Lorentz symmetry breaking parameter is negative. This could lead to that the rotating black hole in Einstein-bumblebee gravity owns the higher Hawking temperature and the stronger Hawking radiation, but the lower possibility of exacting energy by Penrose process. However, in the range of $1 σ$, we also find that general relativity remains to be consistent with the observation data of GRO J1655-40, XTE J1550-564 and GRS 1915+105.

Black-box estimation of expanding parameter for de Sitter universe

We study the black-box parameter estimation of expanding parameters and the dynamics of Gaussian interferometric power for the de Sitter space. We find that the state between separated open charts can be employed as probe state for the black-box quantum metrology. This is nontrivial because the open charts are causally disconnected and classical information can not be exchanged between them according to the general relativity. It is shown that the mass of the scalar field remarkably affects the accuracy of the black-box parameter estimation in the de Sitter space, which is quite different from the flat space case where the mass parameter does not influence the precision of estimation. Quantum discord is found to be a key resource for the estimation of the expanding parameter when there is no entanglement between the initially uncorrelated open charts. It is demonstrated that the role of the probe state between different open charts is quite distinct because curvature effect of the de sitter space damages quantum resources for the initially correlated probe states, while it generates quantum resources for the initially uncorrelated probe states.

Does relativistic motion always degrade quantum Fisher information?

We investigate the ultimate estimation precision, characterized by the quantum Fisher information, of a two-level atom as a detector which is coupled to massless scalar field in the Minkowski vacuum. It has been shown that for an inertial detector moving with a constant velocity, its quantum Fisher information is completely unaffected by the velocity, however, it still decays over time due to the decoherence caused by the interaction between the atom and the field. In addition, for a uniformly accelerated detector ($w=0$) moving along spatially straight line, the accelerated motion will reduce the quantum Fisher information in the estimation of state parameters. However, when the detector trajectory is generated by a combination of the linear accelerated motion and a component of the four-velocity $w=dy/dτ$, we find quite unlike the previous results that, for the non-relativistic case $(w\ll1)$, the acceleration could degrade the quantum Fisher information, while the four-velocity component will suppress the degradation of the quantum Fisher information, and thus could enhance the precision of parameters estimation. Furthermore, in the case for ultra-relativistic velocities $(w\rightarrow\infty)$, although the detector still interacts with the environment, it behaves as if it were a closed system as a consequence of relativity correction associated to the velocity, and the quantum Fisher information in this case can be shield from the effect of the external environment, and thus from the relativistic motion.

Effect of noncircularity on the dynamic behaviors of particles in a disformal rotating black-hole spacetime

A disformal rotating black-hole solution is a black-hole solution in quadratic degenerate higher-order scalar-tensor theories. It breaks the circular condition of spacetime different from the case of the usual Kerr spacetime. This study investigated the dynamic behaviors of the motion of timelike particles in such disformal black-hole spacetime with an extra deformation parameter. Results showed that the characteristics of the particle's motion depend on the sign of the deformation parameter. For the positive deformation parameter, the motion is regular and orderly. For the negative one, as the deformation parameter changes, the motion of the particles undergoes a series of transitions between the chaotic motion and the regular motion and falls into the horizon or escapes to spatial infinity. This means that the dynamic behavior of timelike particles in the disformal Kerr black-hole spacetime with noncircularity becomes richer than that in the usual Kerr black-hole case.

Excited states of holographic superconductors with hyperscaling violation

We employ the numerical and analytical methods to study the effects of the hyperscaling violation on the ground and excited states of holographic superconductors for $d=2,~z=2$. For both the holographic s-wave and p-wave models with the hyperscaling violation, we observe that the excited state has a lower critical temperature than the corresponding ground state, which is similar to the relativistic case, and the difference of the dimensionless critical chemical potential between the consecutive states decreases as the hyperscaling violation increases. Interestingly, as we amplify the hyperscaling violation in the s-wave model, the critical temperature of the ground state first decreases and then increases, but that of the excited states always decreases. In the p-wave model, regardless of the ground state or the excited states, the critical temperature always decreases with increasing the hyperscaling violation. In addition, we find that the hyperscaling violation affects the conductivity $σ$ which has $n$ peaks for the $n$-th excited state, and changes the relation in the gap frequency for the excited states in both s-wave and p-wave models.

Maxwell perturbations in a cavity with Robin boundary conditions: two branches of modes with spectrum bifurcation on Schwarzschild black holes

We perform a systematic study of the Maxwell quasinormal spectrum in a mirror-like cavity following the generic Robin type vanishing energy flux principle, by starting with the Schwarzschild black holes in this paper. It is shown that, for black holes in a cavity, the vanishing energy flux principle leads to \textit{two} different sets of boundary conditions. By solving the Maxwell equations with these two boundary conditions both analytically and numerically, we observe \textit{two} distinct sets of modes. This indicates that the vanishing energy flux principle may be applied not only to asymptotically anti-de Sitter (AdS) black holes but also to black holes in a cavity. In the analytic calculations, the imaginary part of the Maxwell quasinormal modes are derived analytically for both boundary conditions, which match well with the numeric results. While in the numeric calculations, we complete a thorough study on the two sets of the Maxwell spectrum by varying the mirror radius $r_m$, the angular momentum quantum number $\ell$, and the overtone number $N$. In particular, we proclaim that the Maxwell spectrum may \textit{bifurcate} for both modes when the mirror is placed around the black hole event horizon, which is analogous to the spectrum bifurcation effects found for the Maxwell fields on asymptotically AdS black holes. This observation provides another example to exhibit the similarity between black holes in a cavity and the AdS black holes.

Polarized image of a Schwarzschild black hole with a thin accretion disk as photon couples to Weyl tensor

We have studied polarized image of a Schwarzschild black hole with an equatorial thin accretion disk as photon couples to Weyl tensor. The birefringence of photon originating from the coupling affect the black hole shadow, the thin disk pattern and its luminosity distribution. We also analyze the observed polarized intensity in the sky plane. The observed polarized intensity in the bright region is stronger than that in the darker region. The stronger effect of the coupling on the observed polarized vector appears only in the bright region close to black hole. These features in the polarized image could help us to understand black hole shadow, the thin accretion disk and the coupling between photon and Weyl tensor.

Image of the Schwarzschild black hole pierced by a cosmic string with a thin accretion disk

We study the optical appearance of a thin accretion disk around a Schwarzschild black hole pierced by a cosmic string with a semi-analytic method of Luminet [11]. Direct and secondary images with different parameters observed by a distant observer is plotted. The cosmic string parameter s can modify the shape and size of the thin disk image. We calculate and plot the distribution of both redshift and observed flux as seen by distant observers at different inclination angles. Those distributions are dependent on the inclination angel of the observer and cosmic parameter s.
