Holographic superconductors in 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity with backreactions

We construct the holographic superconductors away from the probe limit in the consistent $D\rightarrow4$ Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity. We observe that, both for the ground state and excited states, the critical temperature first decreases then increases as the curvature correction tends towards the Chern-Simons limit in a backreaction dependent fashion. However, the decrease of the backreaction, the increase of the scalar mass, or the increase of the number of nodes will weaken this subtle effect of the curvature correction. Moreover, for the curvature correction approaching the Chern-Simons limit, we find that the gap frequency $ω_g/T_c$ of the conductivity decreases first and then increases when the backreaction increases in a scalar mass dependent fashion, which is different from the finding in the ($3+1$)-dimensional superconductors that increasing backreaction increases $ω_g/T_c$ in the full parameter space. The combination of the Gauss-Bonnet gravity and backreaction provides richer physics in the scalar condensates and conductivity in the ($2+1$)-dimensional superconductors.

Gaussian quantum steering under the influence of a dilaton black hole

We study the dynamics of Gaussian quantum steering in the background of a Garfinkle-Horowitz-Strominger dilaton black hole. It is found that the gravity induced by dilaton field will destroy the quantum steerability between the inertial observer Alice and the observer Bob who hovers outside the event horizon, while it generates steering-type quantum correlations between the causally disconnected regions. Therefore, the observers can steer each other's state by local measurements even though they are separated by the event horizon. Unlike quantum entanglement in the dilaton spacetime, the quantum steering experiences catastrophic behaviors such as "sudden death" and "sudden birth" with increasing dilaton charge. In addition, the dilaton gravity destroys the symmetry of Gaussian steering and the latter is always asymmetric in the dilation spacetime. Interestingly, the attainment of maximal steering asymmetry indicates the critical point between one-way and two-way steering for the two-mode Gaussian state in the dilaton spacetime.

Kerr Black hole shadows in Melvin magnetic field with stable photon orbits

We have studied the spacetime of a Kerr black hole immersed in Melvin magnetic field, and found not only unstable light rings could exist, but also stable light rings could exist. Both the prograde and retrograde unstable light rings radiuses increase with the magnetic field parameter $B$, but it is the opposite for stable light rings. The existence of unstable, stable light rings depend on both the rotation parameter $a$ and the magnetic field parameter $B$. For a certain $a$, there are both the prograde and retroprade unstable (stable) light rings when $B$ is less than a critical value $B_{c}$ of retrograde light ring. In this case, the shadows of Melvin-Kerr black hole have two gray regions on both sides of the middle main shadow, which correspond to the prograde and retrograde stable photon orbits. The photons in stable orbits are always moving around Melvin-Kerr black hole, they can't enter the black hole or escape to infinity. As $B$ continues to increase, there is only the prograde unstable (stable) light ring. In this case, the gray region only emerges in the life of the main shadow, which corresponds to the prograde stable photon orbits. The absence of the retrograde unstable (stable) light rings makes the Melvin-Kerr black hole shadow an half-panoramic (equatorial) shadow. When $B$ is bigger than $B_{C}$ of prograde light ring, neither prograde nor retroprade unstable (stable) light rings exist. In this case, the shadow of Melvin-Kerr black hole has no gray region for stable photon orbits, and becomes a panoramic (equatorial) shadow. In addition, there also exist some self-similar fractal structures in the shadow of Melvin-Kerr black hole arising from the chaotic motion of photon.

Tidal effects in 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet Black Hole Spacetime

We have investigated tidal forces and geodesic deviation motion in the 4D-Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet spacetime. Our results show that tidal force and geodesic deviation motion depend sharply on the sign of Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant. Comparing with Schwarzschild spacetime, the strength of tidal force becomes stronger for the negative Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant, but is weaker for the positive one. Moreover, tidal force behaves like those in the Schwarzschild spacetime as the coupling constant is negative, and like those in Reissner-Nordström black hole as the constant is positive. We also present the change of geodesic deviation vector with Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant under two kinds of initial conditions.

Testing gravity of a disformal Kerr black hole in quadratic degenerate higher-order scalar-tensor theories by quasi-periodic oscillations

By using the relativistic precession model, we have studied frequencies of quasi-periodic oscillations in the spacetime of a disformal Kerr black hole. This black hole owns an extra disformal parameter and belongs to a class of non-stealth solutions in quadratic degenerate higher-order scalar-tensor (DHOST) theories. Our result shows that only the periastron precession frequency is related to the disformal parameter, while the azimuthal frequency and the nodal precession frequency are identical with those in the usual Kerr black hole in general relativity. Combing with the observation data of GRO J1655-40, we fit parameters of the disformal Kerr black hole, and find that the disformal parameter $α$ is almost negative in the range of $1 σ$, which implies the negative disformal parameter $α$ is favored by the observation data of GRO J1655-40.

Maxwell quasinormal modes on a global monopole Schwarzschild-anti-de Sitter black hole with Robin boundary conditions

We generalize our previous studies on the Maxwell quasinormal modes around Schwarzschild-anti-de-Sitter black holes with Robin type vanishing energy flux boundary conditions, by adding a global monopole on the background. We first formulate the Maxwell equations both in the Regge-Wheeler-Zerilli and in the Teukolsky formalisms and derive, based on the vanishing energy flux principle, two boundary conditions in each formalism. The Maxwell equations are then solved analytically in pure anti-de Sitter spacetimes with a global monopole, and two different normal modes are obtained due to the existence of the monopole parameter. In the small black hole and low frequency approximations, the Maxwell quasinormal modes are solved perturbatively on top of normal modes by using an asymptotic matching method, while beyond the aforementioned approximation, the Maxwell quasinormal modes are obtained numerically. We analyze the Maxwell quasinormal spectrum by varying the angular momentum quantum number $\ell$, the overtone number $N$, and in particular, the monopole parameter $8πη^2$. We show explicitly, through calculating quasinormal frequencies with both boundary conditions, that the global monopole produces the repulsive force.

Estimation precision of parameter associated with Unruh-like effect

We study the quantum Fisher information (QFI) of acceleration, in the open quantum systems, for a two-level atom with the circular motion coupled to a massless scalar field in the Minkowski vacuum without and with a reflecting boundary in the ultra-relativistic limit. As we amplify $a$, the saturation time decreases for $θ\neqπ$, but first increases and then decreases for $θ=π$. Without a boundary, there exists a peak value of QFI with a certain time. The QFI varies with the initial state parameter $θ$, and firstly takes peak value in the ground state of the atom. The variation of QFI with respect to $θ$ gradually fades away with the evolution of time. With a boundary, the detection range of acceleration has been expanded. The QFI firstly takes the maximum in the excited state of the atom. In addition, we study the QFI of temperature for a static atom immersed in a thermal bath without and with a boundary. The relation between the saturation time and $T$ is similar to $a$. Without a boundary, the QFI of temperature is similar to that of acceleration. With a boundary, the QFI firstly takes peak value in the ground state of the atom, which is different from the behavior of acceleration. The results provide references for the detection of Unruh-like effect.

Effect of gravitational wave on shadow of a Schwarzschild black hole

We have studied the shadows of a Schwarzschild black hole under a special polar gravitational perturbation, which is a particular solution of Einstein equations expanded up to first order. It is shown that the black hole shadow changes periodically with time and the change of shadow depends on the Legendre polynomial order parameter l and the frequency σ of gravitational wave. For the odd order of Legendre polynomial, the center of shadow oscillates along the direction which is vertical to equatorial plane. For even l, the center of shadow does not move, but the shadow alternately stretches and squeezes with time along the vertical direction. Moreover, the presence of the gravitational wave leads to the self-similar fractal structures appearing in the boundary of the black hole shadow. We also find that this special gravitational wave has a greater influence on the vertical direction of black hole shadow.

Consistency between dynamical and thermodynamical stabilities for charged self-gravitating perfect fluid

The entropy principle shows that, for self-gravitating perfect fluid, the Einstein field equations can be derived from the extrema of the total entropy, and the thermodynamical stability criterion are equivalent to the dynamical stability criterion. In this paper, we recast the dynamical criterion for the charged self-gravitating perfect fluid in Einstein-Maxwell theory, and further give the criterion of the star with barotropic condition. In order to obtain the thermodynamical stability criterion, first we get the general formula of the second variation of the total entropy for charged perfect fluid case, and then obtain the thermodynamical criterion for radial perturbation. We show that these two stability criterion are the same, which suggest that the inherent connection between gravity and thermodynamic even when the electric field is taken into account.

Image of a regular phantom compact object and its luminosity under spherical accretions

We have studied the shadow and its luminosity for a static and regular phantom compact object under the static spherical accretion and the infalling spherical accretion, respectively. Comparing with the usual Schwarzschild black hole, the presence of phantom hair yields the larger black hole shadow and the darker image. In both spherical accretion models, with the increase of phantom parameter, the maximum luminosity occurred at photon ring and the brightness of the central region in the shadow decrease, but in the region far from the shadow, the luminosity of image slightly increases. The image of a phantom wormhole and its luminosity have similar behaviors. Moreover, as the phantom charge parameter $α$ increases up to the critical value at where the compact object changes from black hole to wormhole, there exists a jump for the specific intensity, which also appears in the slowly rotating case. This implies that the phantom hair is imprinted on both the shadow radius and the intensity of the electromagnetic flux radiation around compacted object.

Bifurcation of the Maxwell quasinormal spectrum on asymptotically anti-de Sitter black holes

We study the Maxwell quasinormal spectrum on asymptotically anti-de Sitter black holes with a set of two Robin type boundary conditions, by requiring the energy flux to vanish at asymptotic infinity. Focusing, for illustrative purposes, on Schwarzschild-anti-de Sitter black holes both without and with a global monopole, we unveil that, on the one hand, the Maxwell quasinormal spectrum bifurcates as the black hole radius increases for both boundary conditions, which is termed the mode split effect; while on the other hand, with an appropriate fixed black hole radius but increasing the monopole parameter, the first (second) boundary condition may trigger (terminate) the mode split effect.

Chaotic motion of scalar particle coupling to Chern-Simons invariant in Kerr black hole spacetime

We present firstly the equation of motion for the test scalar particle coupling to the Chern-Simons invariant in Kerr black hole spacetime by the short-wave approximation. We have analyzed the dynamical behaviors of the test coupled particles by applying techniques including Poincaré sections, fast Lyapunov exponent indicator, bifurcation diagram and basins of attraction. It is shown that there exists chaotic phenomenon in the motion of scalar particle interacted with the Chern-Simons invariant in a Kerr black hole spacetime. With the increase of the coupling strength, the motion of the coupled particles for the chosen parameters first undergoes a series of transitions betweens chaotic motion and regular motion and then falls into horizon or escapes to spatial infinity. Thus, the coupling between scalar particle and Chern-Simons invariant yields the richer dynamical behavior of scalar particle in a Kerr black hole spacetime.

Holographic insulator/superconductor phase transitions with excited states

We construct a family of solutions of the holographic insulator/superconductor phase transitions with the excited states in the AdS soliton background by using both the numerical and analytical methods. The interesting point is that the improved Sturm-Liouville method can not only analytically investigate the properties of the phase transition with the excited states, but also the distributions of the condensed fields in the vicinity of the critical point. We observe that, regardless of the type of the holographic model, the excited state has a higher critical chemical potential than the corresponding ground state, and the difference of the dimensionless critical chemical potential between the consecutive states is around 2.4, which is different from the finding of the metal/superconductor phase transition in the AdS black hole background. Furthermore, near the critical point, we find that the phase transition of the systems is of the second order and a linear relationship exists between the charge density and chemical potential for all the excited states in both s-wave and p-wave insulator/superconductor models.

Holographic superconductors in 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity

We investigate the neutral AdS black-hole solution in the consistent $D\rightarrow4$ Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity proposed in [K. Aoki, M.A. Gorji, and S. Mukohyama, Phys. Lett. B {\bf 810}, 135843 (2020)] and construct the gravity duals of ($2+1$)-dimensional superconductors with Gauss-Bonnet corrections in the probe limit. We find that the curvature correction has a more subtle effect on the scalar condensates in the s-wave superconductor in ($2+1$)-dimensions, which is different from the finding in the higher-dimensional superconductors that the higher curvature correction makes the scalar hair more difficult to be developed in the full parameter space. However, in the p-wave case, we observe that the higher curvature correction always makes it harder for the vector condensates to form in various dimensions. Moreover, we note that the higher curvature correction results in the larger deviation from the expected relation in the gap frequency $ω_g/T_c\approx 8$ in both ($2+1$)-dimensional s-wave and p-wave models.

Distribution and generation of quantum coherence for Gaussian states in de Sitter space

We study the distribution and generation of quantum coherence for two-mode and multi-mode Gaussian states in de Sitter space. It is found that the quantum coherence is redistributed among the mode in different open charts under the curvature effect of de Sitter space. In particular, the Gaussian coherence for the initially correlated state is found to survive in the limit of infinite curvature, while quantum entanglement vanishing in this limit. Unlike entanglement and steering, the coherence of a massive scalar field is more robust than a massless field under the influence of curvature of de Sitter space. In addition, it is shown that the curvature generates two-mode Gaussian state and three-mode Gaussian state quantum coherence among the open charts, even though the observers are localized in causally disconnected regions. It is worth noting that the gravity-generated three-mode coherence is extremely sensitive to the curvature effect for the conformal and massless scalar fields, which may be in principle employed to design an effective detector for the space curvature.

Shadow of a disformal Kerr black hole in quadratic DHOST theories

We have studied the shadow of a disformal Kerr black hole with an extra deformation parameter, which belongs to non-stealth rotating solutions in quadratic Degenerate Higher Order Scalar Tensor (DHOST) theory. Our result show that the size of the shadow increases with the deformation parameter for the black hole with arbitrary spin parameter. However, the effect of the deformation parameter on the shadow shape depends heavily on the spin parameter of black hole and the sign of the deformation parameter. The change of the shadow shape becomes more distinct for the black hole with the more quickly rotation and the more negative deformation parameter. Especially, for the near-extreme black hole with negative deformation parameter, there exist a "pedicel"-like structure appeared in the shadow, which increases with the absolute value of deformation parameter. The eyebrow-like shadow and the self-similar fractal structures also appear in the shadow for the disformal Kerr black hole in DHOST theory. These features in the black hole shadow originating from the scalar field could help us to understand the non-stealth disformal Kerr black hole and quadratic DHOST theory.

An analytic study on the excited states of holographic superconductors

Based on the Sturm-Liouville eigenvalue problem, we develop a general analytic technique to investigate the excited states of the holographic superconductors. By including more higher order terms in the expansion of the trial function, we observe that the analytic results agree well with the numeric data, which indicates that the Sturm-Liouville method is very powerful to study the holographic superconductors even if we consider the excited states. For both the holographic s-wave and p-wave models, we find that the excited state has a lower critical temperature than the corresponding ground state and the difference of the dimensionless critical chemical potential between the consecutive states is around 5. Moreover, we analytically confirm that the holographic superconductor phase transition with the excited states belongs to the second order, which can be used to back up the numerical findings for both s-wave and p-wave superconductors.

Quantum estimation of acceleration and temperature in open quantum system

In an open quantum system, we study the evolution of a two-level atom as a detector which interacts with given environments. For a uniformly accelerated two-level atom coupled to a massless scalar field in the Minkowski vacuum, when it evolves for a certain time, we find that there exists a peak value for the quantum Fisher information (QFI) of acceleration, which indicates that the optimal precision of estimation is achieved when choosing an appropriate acceleration $a$. QFI has different behaviors for different initial state parameters $θ$ of the atom, displaying periodicity. However, the periodicity fades away with the evolution of time, which means that the initial state cannot affect the later stable quantum state. Furthermore, adding a boundary, we observe that the peak value of QFI increases when the atom is close to the boundary, which shows that QFI is protected by the boundary. Here, QFI fluctuates, and there may exist two peak values with a certain moment, which expands the detection range of the acceleration. Therefore, we can enhance the estimation precision of acceleration by choosing an appropriate position and acceleration $a$. The periodicity of QFI with respect to the initial state parameter $θ$ lasts a longer time than the previous unbounded case, which indicates that the initial state is protected by the boundary. Finally, for a thermal bath with a boundary, QFI of temperature has no more than one peak value with a certain moment, which is different from QFI of acceleration with a boundary. The periodicity also lasts a longer time than unbounded case, which shows the initial quantum state of the atom is protected by the boundary for two cases.
