Light Dark Matter from the U(1)_X Sector in the NMSSM with Gauge Mediation

Cosmic ray anomalies observed by PAMELA and Fermi-LAT experiments may be interpreted by heavy (TeV-scale) dark matter annihilation enhanced by Sommerfeld effects mediated by a very light (sub-GeV) U(1)_X gauge boson, while the recent direct searches from CoGeNT and DAMA/LIBRA experiments may indicate a rather light (\sim 7 GeV) dark matter with weak interaction. Motivated by these apparently different scales, we consider a gauge mediated next-to-the minimal supersymmetric standard model (NMSSM) entended with a light U(1)_X sector plus a heavy sector (\bar H_h,H_h), which can provide both a light (\sim 7 GeV) and a heavy (TeV-scale) dark matter without introducing any ad hoc new scale. Through the Yukawa coupling between H_h and the messager fields, the U(1)_X gauge symmetry is broken around the GeV scale radiatively and a large negative m_S^2 is generated for the NMSSM singlet S. Furthermore, the small kinetic mixing parameter between U(1)_X and U(1)_Y is predicted to be θ\sim 10^{-5}-10^{-6} after integrating out the messengers. Such a light dark matter, which can have a normal relic density from the late decay of the right-handed sneutrino (assumed to be the ordinary next-to-the lightest supersymmetric particle and thermally produced in the early universe), can serve a good candidate to explain the recent CoGeNT and DAMA/LIBRA results.

Constraints of dark matter direct detection experiments on the MSSM and implications for LHC Higgs searches

Assuming the lightest neutralino solely composes the cosmic dark matter, we examine the constraints of the CDMS-II and XENON100 dark matter direct searches on the parameter space of the MSSM Higgs sector. We find that the current CDMS-II/XENON100 limits can exclude some of the parameter space which survive the constraints from the dark matter relic density and various collider experiments. We also find that in the currently allowed parameter space, the charged Higgs boson is hardly accessible at the LHC for an integrated luminosity of 30 fb^{-1}, while the neutral non-SM Higgs bosons (H,A) may be accessible in some allowed region characterized by a large μ. The future XENON100 (6000 kg-days exposure) will significantly tighten the parameter space in case of nonobservation of dark matter, further shrinking the likelihood of discovering the non-SM Higgs bosons at the LHC.

Lepton flavor violating Z-boson decays at GigaZ as a probe of supersymmetry

We briefly review the lepton flavor violating Z-decays at GigaZ as a probe of supersymmetry by focusing on $Z \to \ell_i \overline{\ell}_j$ in two representative supersymmetric models: the minimal supersymmetric model without R-parity and the supersymmetric seesaw model. We conclude that under the current experimental constraints from LEP and $\ell_i\to \ell_j γ$, these rare decays can still be enhanced to reach the sensitivity of the GigaZ. Therefore, supersymmetry can be probed via these decays at GigaZ.

Dark matter in the MSSM and its singlet extension

We briefly review the supersymetric explanation for the cosmic dark matter. Although the neutralino in the minimal supersymmetric model (MSSM), the next-to-minimal supersymmetric model (NMSSM) and the nearly minimal supersymmetric model (nMSSM) can naturaly explain the dark matter relic density, the PAMELA result can hardly be explained in these popular models. In the general singlet extension of the MSSM, both the PAMELA result and the relic density can be explained by the singlino-like neutralino. Such singlino-like neutralinos annihilate into the singlet-like Higgs bosons, which are light enough to decay dominantly to muons or electrons, and the annihilation cross section can be greatly enhanced by the Sommerfeld effect via exchanging a light CP-even singlet-like Higgs boson. In this scenario, in order to meet the stringent LEP constraints, the SM-like Higgs boson tends to decay into the singlet Higgs pairs instead of $b\bar b$ and consequently it will give a multi-muon signal $h_SM->aa->μ$ or $h_{SM}->hh->4 a ->8 μ$ at the LHC.

SUSY dark matter in light of CDMS II results: a comparative study for different models

We perform a comparative study of the neutralino dark matter scattering on nucleon in three popular supersymmetric models: the minimal (MSSM), the next-to-minimal (NMSSM) and the nearly minimal (nMSSM). First, we give the predictions of the elastic cross section by scanning over the parameter space allowed by various direct and indirect constraints, which are from the measurement of the cosmic dark matter relic density, the collider search for Higgs boson and sparticles, the precision electroweak measurements and the muon anomalous magnetic moment. Then we demonstrate the property of the allowed parameter space with/without the new limits from CDMS II. We obtain the following observations: (i) For each model the new CDMS limits can exclude a large part of the parameter space allowed by current collider constraints; (ii) The property of the allowed parameter space is similar for MSSM and NMSSM, but quite different for nMSSM; (iii) The future SuperCDMS can cover most part of the allowed parameter space for each model.

Dark matter and Higgs phenomenology predicted by left-right twin Higgs model in light of CDMS II results

The left-right twin Higgs model predicts a light stable scalar \hat{S}, which is a candidate for WIMP dark matter. We study its scattering on nucleon and find that the cross section is below the CDMS II upper bound but can reach the SuperCDMS sensitivity. Then we study the Higgs phenomenology by paying special attention to the decay h -> \hat{S} \hat{S} which is strongly correlated with the dark matter scattering on nucleon. We find that such an invisible decay can be sizable, which can severely suppress the conventional decay modes like h->VV (V=W,Z) and h->b\bar{b}. On the other hand, compared to the SM prediction, the rates of Higgs boson productions at the LHC via gluon-gluon fusion, weak boson fusion or in association with top quark pairs are all reduced significantly, e.g., the gluon-gluon fusion channel can be suppressed by about 30%.

Higgs boson production in photon-photon collision at ILC: a comparative study in different little Higgs models

We study the process γγ->h->bb_bar at ILC as a probe of different little Higgs models, including the simplest little Higgs model (SLH), the littlest Higgs model (LH), and two types of littlest Higgs models with T-parity (LHT-I, LHT-II). Compared with the Standard Model (SM) prediction, the production rate is found to be sizably altered in these little Higgs models and, more interestingly, different models give different predictions. We find that the production rate can be possibly enhanced only in the LHT-II for some part of the parameter space, while in all other cases the rate is suppressed. The suppression can be 10% in the LH and as much as 60% in both the SLH and the LHT-I/LHT-II. The severe suppression in the SLH happens for a large \tanβand a small m_h, in which the new decay mode h->ηη(ηis a light pseudo-scalar) is dominant; while for the LHT-I/LHT-II the large suppression occurs when f and m_h are both small so that the new decay mode h->A_H A_H is dominant. Therefore, the precision measurement of such a production process at the ILC will allow for a test of these models and even distinguish between different scenarios.

Lepton flavor-changing processes in R-parity violating MSSM: Z->l_i l_j and γγ->l_i l_j under new bounds from l_i->l_j γ

We examine the lepton flavor-changing processes in R-parity violating MSSM. First, we update the constraints on the relevant R-violating couplings by using the latest data on the rare decays l_i->l_j γ. We find that the updated constraints are much stronger than the old ones from rare Z-decays at LEP. Then we calculate the processes Z->l_i l_j and γγ->l_i l_j. We find that with the updated constraints the R-violating couplings can still enhance the rates of these processes to the sensitivity of GigaZ and photon-photon collision options of the ILC.

Top quark forward-backward asymmetry at the Tevatron: a comparative study in different new physics models

The top quark forward-backward asymmetry A_{FB}^t measured at the Tevatron is above the Standard Model prediction by more than 2-sigma deviation, which might be a harbinger for new physics. In this work we examine the contribution to A_{FB}^t in two different new physics models: one is the minimal supersymmetric model without R-parity (RPV-MSSM) which contributes to A_{FB}^t via sparticle-mediated t-channel process d d_bar-> t t_bar; the other is the third-generation enhanced left-right model (LR model) which contributes to A_{FB}^t via Z'-mediated t-channel or s-channel processes. We find that in the parameter space allowed by the tt_bar production rate and the tt_bar invariant mass distribution at the Tevatron, the LR model can enhance A_{FB}^t to within the 2-sigma region of the Tevatron data for the major part of the parameter space, and in optimal case A_{FB}^t can reach 12% which is slightly below the 1-sigma lower bound. For the RPV-MSSM, only in a narrow part of the parameter space can the λ'' couplings enhance A_{FB}^t to within the 2-sigma region while the λ' couplings just produce negative contributions to worsen the fit.

Realistic Flipped SU(5) from Orbifold SO(10)

We propose a realistic flipped SU(5) model derived from a five-dimensional orbifold SO(10) model. The Standard Model (SM) fermion masses and mixings are explained by combining the traditional Froggatt-Nielsen mechanism with the five-dimensional wave function profiles of the SM fermions. Employing tree-level spontaneous R-symmetry breaking in the hidden sector and extra(ordinary) gauge mediation, we obtain realistic supersymmetry breaking soft mass terms with non-vanishing gaugino masses. Including the messenger fields at the intermediate scale and Kaluza-Klein states at the compactification scale, we study gauge coupling unification. We show that the SO(10) unified gauge coupling is very strong and the unification scale can be much higher than the compactification scale. We briefly discuss proton decay as well.

Higgs-pair Production and Decay in Simplest Little Higgs Model

In the framework of the simplest little Higgs model (SLHM), we study the production of a pair of neutral CP-even Higgs bosons at the LHC. First, we examine the production rate and find that it can be significantly larger than the SM prediction. Then we investigate the decays of the Higgs-pair and find that for a low Higgs mass their dominant decay mode is hh->ηηηη(ηis a CP-odd scalar) while hh->b\bar{b}ηηand hh->ηηWW may also have sizable ratios. Finally, we comparatively study the rates of pp-> hh -> b\bar{b}τ^+ τ^-, pp->hh->b\bar{b}γγ, and pp->hh->WWWW in the SLHM and the littlest Higgs models (LHT). We find that for a light Higgs, compared with the SM predictions, all the three rates can be sizably enhanced in the LHT but severely suppressed in the SLHM; while for an intermediately heavy Higgs, both the LHT and SLHM can enhance sizably the SM predictions.

Dark Matter in the Singlet Extension of MSSM: Explanation of Pamela and Implication on Higgs Phenomenology

As discussed recently by Hooper and Tait, the singlino-like dark matter in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) extended by a singlet Higgs superfield can give a perfect explanation for both the relic density and the Pamela result through the Sommerfeld-enhanced annihilation into singlet Higgs bosons ($a$ or $h$ followed by $h->a a$) with $a$ being light enough to decay dominantly to muons or electrons. In this work we analyze the parameter space required by such a dark matter explanation and also consider the constraints from the LEP experiments. We find that although the light singlet Higgs bosons have small mixings with the Higgs doublets in the allowed parameter space, their couplings with the SM-like Higgs boson $h_{SM}$ (the lightest doublet-dominant Higgs boson) can be enhanced by the soft parameter $A_κ$ and, in order to meet the stringent LEP constraints, the $h_{SM}$ tends to decay into the singlet Higgs pairs $aa$ or $hh$ instead of $b\bar b$. So the $h_{SM}$ produced at the LHC will give a multi-muon signal, h_{SM} -> aa -> 4 muons or h_{SM} -> hh -> 4 a -> 8 muons.

Lepton-Specific Two-Higgs Doublet Model: Experimental Constraints and Implication on Higgs Phenomenology

We examine various direct and indirect constraints on the lepton-specific two-Higgs doublet model and scrutinize the property of the Higgs bosons in the allowed parameter space. These constraints come from the precision electroweak data, the direct search for Higgs boson, the muon anomalous magnetic moment, as well as some theoretical consistency requirements. We find that in the allowed parameter space the CP-odd Higgs boson A is rather light (m_A < 30 GeV with 95% possibility), which is composed dominantly by the leptonic Higgs and decays dominantly into τ^+ τ^-; while the SM-like Higgs boson h (responsible largely for electroweak symmetry breaking) decays dominantly in the mode h->A A->4 τwith a large decay width, which will make the Higgs discovery more difficult at the LHC. Whereas, this scenario predicts a branching ratio Br(Z->τ^+ τ^- A) ranging from 10^{-5} to 10^{-4}, which may be accessible at the the GigaZ option of the ILC.

Low-Scale SU(4)_W Unification

We embed the minimal left-right model SU(2)_L*SU(2)_R* U(1)_{B-L} into an SU(4)_W gauge group, and break the unified group via five-dimensional S^1/(Z_2*Z_2) orbifolding. Leptons are fitted into SU(4)_W multiplets and located on a symmetry preserving O brane, while quarks are placed onto an O' brane where the symmetry is broken. This approach predicts \sin^2θ_W=0.25 for the weak mixing angle at tree level and leads to a rather low weakly (strongly) coupled unification scale of order 3*10^2 TeV (several TeV) with supersymmetry, or as low as several TeV in the non-supersymmetric case. Another symmetry breaking chain with the low-energy gauge group SU(2)_L*U(1)_{3R}*U(1)_{B-L} can also give rise to a weak mixing angle \sin^2θ_W=0.25 at tree level after gauge symmetry breaking by orbifolding. Such theories with low-scale unification have interesting phenomenological consequences.

Residual effects of heavy sparticles in the bottom quark Yukawa coupling: a comparative study for the MSSM and NMSSM

If the sparticles are relatively heavy (a few TeV) while the Higgs sector is not so heavy ($m_A$ is not so large), the Higgs boson Yukawa couplings can harbor sizable quantum effects of sparticles and these large residual effects may play a special role in probing supersymmetry at foreseeable colliders. In this work, focusing on the supersymmetric QCD effects in the hbb coupling (h is the lightest CP-even Higgs boson), we give a comparative study for the two popular supersymmetric models: the MSSM and NMSSM. While for both models the supersymmetric QCD can leave over large residual quantum effects in hbb coupling, the NMSSM can allow for a much broader region of such effects. Since these residual effects can be over 20% for the hbb coupling (and thus over 40% for the ratio $Br(h->bb)/Br(h->ττ)), future measurements may unravel the effects of heavy sparticles or even distinguish the two models.

The SU(3)_C * SU(4)_W * U(1)_{B-L} Models with Left-Right Unification

The left-right models provide an explanation for the parity asymmetry in the Standard Model (SM). To further understand the origin of the left-right symmetry, we study a partial unification model based on SU(4)_W*U(1)_{B-L} which can be broken down to the minimal left-right model either through the Higgs mechanism in four dimensions or through the five-dimensional orbifold gauge symmetry breaking with inner or outer automorphism. We scrutinize all these breaking mechanisms and find that for the orbifold breaking in five dimensions, the rank-reducing outer automorphism is better than the inner automorphism and can make the low energy theory free of the U(1)_Z anomaly. For the four-dimensional model with the Higgs mechanism, we study in detail both its structure and its typical phenomenology. It turns out that this four-dimensional scenario may predict some new phenomenology since the new mirror fermions (which are introduced in order to fill the SM fermions into SU(4)_W without anomaly) are preserved at low energy scale and mix with the SM fermions. We also examine the gauge coupling unification in each case, and discuss the possibility for unifying this partial unification group with the Pati-Salam group SU(4)_{PS} to realize a grand unification.

Top quark three-body decays in the R-parity violating MSSM

In the minimal supersymmetric standard model the R-parity violating interactions can trigger various exotic three-body decays for the top quark, which may be accessible at the LHC. In this work we examine the R-violating decays t-> c X_1 X_2, which include the tree-level processes t-> c l^-_i l^+_j (l_i=e, mu, tau) and t->c d_i \bar{d}_j (d_i=d, s, b), as well as the loop induced processes t->c g X (X=g, γ, Z, h). We find that the hereto weakly constrained R-violating couplings can render the decay branching ratios quite sizable, some of which already reach the sensitivity of the Tevatron collider and can be expored at the LHC with better sensitivity.

Experimental constraints on nMSSM and implications on its phenomenology

We examine various direct and indirect experimental constraints on the nearly minimal supersymmetric standard model (nMSSM) and obtain the following observations: (i) Current experiments stringently constrain the parameter space, setting a range of 1-37 GeV for the lightest neutralino (LSP), 30-140 GeV (1-250 GeV) for the lightest CP-even (CP-odd) Higgs boson, and 1.5-10 for \tanβ; (ii) To account for the dark matter relic density, besides the s-channel exchange of a Z-boson, the s-channel exchange of a light A_1 (the lightest CP-odd Higgs boson) can also play an important role in LSP annihilation. Compared with the Z-exchange annihilation channel, the A_1 exchange channel is more favored by muon g-2 data and allows much broader regions for the parameters; (iii) In a large part of the allowed parameter space the SM-like Higgs boson may dominantly decay to LSP pair or A_1 pair and the conventional visible decays (e.g. into bottom quarks) are severely suppressed.
