Higgs decay to dark matter in low energy SUSY: is it detectable at the LHC ?

Due to the limited statistics so far accumulated in the Higgs boson search at the LHC, the Higgs boson property has not yet been tightly constrained and it is still allowed for the Higgs boson to decay invisibly to dark matter with a sizable branching ratio. In this work, we examine the Higgs decay to neutralino dark matter in low energy SUSY by considering three different models: the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard models (NMSSM) and the nearly minimal supersymmetric standard model (nMSSM). Under current experimental constraints at 2-sigma level (including the muon g-2 and the dark matter relic density), we scan over the parameter space of each model. Then in the allowed parameter space we calculate the branching ratio of the SM-like Higgs decay to neutralino dark matter and examine its observability at the LHC by considering three production channels: the weak boson fusion VV->h, the associated production with a Z-boson pp->hZ+X or a pair of top quarks pp->htt_bar+X. We find that in the MSSM such a decay is far below the detectable level; while in both the NMSSM and nMSSM the decay branching ratio can be large enough to be observable at the LHC.

Top quark forward-backward asymmetry and charge asymmetry in left-right twin Higgs model

In order to explain the Tevatron anomaly of the top quark forward-backward asymmetry $A_{FB}^t$ in the left-right twin Higgs model, we choose to give up the lightest neutral particle of $\hat{h}$ field as a stable dark matter candidate. Then a new Yukawa interaction for $\hat{h}$ is allowed, which can be free from the constraint of same-sign top pair production and contribute sizably to $A_{FB}^t$. Considering the constraints from the production rates of the top pair ($t\bar t$), the top decay rates and $t\bar{t}$ invariant mass distribution, we find that this model with such new Yukawa interaction can explain $A_{FB}^t$ measured at the Tevatron while satisfying the charge asymmetry $A_{C}^t$ measured at the LHC.Moreover, this model predicts a strongly correlation between $A_{C}^t$ at the LHC and $A_{FB}^t$ at the Tevatron, i.e., $A_{C}^t$ increases as $A_{FB}^t$ increases.

The Minimal Solution to the mu/B_mu Problem in Gauge Mediation

We provide a minimal solution to the mu/B_mu problem in the gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking by introducing a Standard Model singlet filed S with a mass around the messenger scale which couples to the Higgs and messenger fields. This singlet is nearly supersymmetric and acquires a relatively small Vacuum Expectation Value (VEV) from its radiatively generated tadpole term. Consequently, both mu and B_mu parameters receive the tree-level and one-loop contributions, which are comparable due to the small S VEV. Because there exists a proper cancellation in such two kinds of contributions to B_mu, we can have a viable Higgs sector for electroweak symmetry breaking.

A SM-like Higgs near 125 GeV in low energy SUSY: a comparative study for MSSM and NMSSM

Motivated by the recent LHC hints of a Higgs boson around 125 GeV, we assume a SM-like Higgs with the mass 123-127 GeV and study its implication in low energy SUSY by comparing the MSSM and NMSSM. We consider various experimental constraints at 2-sigma level (including the muon g-2 and the dark matter relic density) and perform a comprehensive scan over the parameter space of each model. Then in the parameter space which is allowed by current experimental constraints and also predicts a SM-like Higgs in 123-127 GeV, we examine the properties of the sensitive parameters (like the top squark mass and the trilinear coupling A_t) and calculate the rates of the di-photon signal and the VV^* (V=W,Z) signals at the LHC. Our typical findings are: (i) In the MSSM the top squark and A_t must be large and thus incur some fine-tuning, which can be much ameliorated in the NMSSM; (ii) In the MSSM a light stau is needed to enhance the di-photon rate of the SM-like Higgs to exceed its SM prediction, while in the NMSSM the di-photon rate can be readily enhanced in several ways; (iii) In the MSSM the signal rates of pp -> h -> VV^* at the LHC are never enhanced compared with their SM predictions, while in the NMSSM they may get enhanced significantly; (iv) A large part of the parameter space so far survived will be soon covered by the expected XENON100(2012) sensitivity (especially for the NMSSM).

Current experimental constraints on the lightest Higgs boson mass in the constrained MSSM

We examine the parameter space of the constrained MSSM by considering various experimental constraints. For the dark matter sector, we require the neutralino dark matter to account for the relic density measured by the WMAP and satisfy the XENON limits on its scattering rate with the nucleon. For the collider constraints, we consider all relevant direct and indirect limits from LEP, Tevatron and LHC as well as the muon anomalous magnetic moment. Especially, for the limits from B_s->μ^+μ^-, we either directly consider its branching ratio with the latest LHC data or alternatively consider the double ratio of the purely leptonic decays defined by [Br(B_s->μ^+μ^-)/Br(B_u->τν_τ)]/[Br(D_s->τν_τ)/Br(D->τμ_τ)]. We find that under these constraints, the mass of the lightest Higgs boson (h) in both the CMSSM and the NUHM2 is upper bounded by about 124 GeV (126 GeV) before (after) considering its theoretical uncertainty. We also find that for these models the di-photon Higgs signal at the LHC is suppressed relative to the SM prediction, and that the lower bound of the top-squark mass goes up with m_h, reaching 600 GeV for m_h=124 GeV.

Testing new physics models by top charge asymmetry and polarization at the LHC

As a top quark factory, the LHC can test the new physics models used to explain the top quark forward-backward asymmetry A^t_FB measured at the Tevatron. In this work we perform a comparative study for two such models: the W'-model and the color triplet diquark (ϕ) model. Requiring these models to explain A^t_FB and also satisfy the top pair production rate measured at the Tevatron, we examine their contributions to the LHC observables such as the polarization and charge asymmetry in top quark and W' (or ϕ) productions. We find that these observables can be enhanced to the observable level and the current LHC measurement on the top charge asymmetry can already tightly constrain the W'-model. We also find that each observable shows different characteristics in different models, which can be utilized to discriminate the models.

Split-SUSY dark matter in light of direct detection limits

We examine the present and future XENON limits on the neutralino dark matter in split supersymmetry (split-SUSY). Through a scan over the parameter space under the current constraints from collider experiments and the WMAP measurement of the dark matter relic density, we find that in the allowed parameter space a large part has been excluded by the present XENON100 limits and a further largish part can be covered by the future exposure (6000 kg-day). In case of unobservation of dark matter with such an exposure in the future, the lightest neutralino will remain bino-like and its annihilation is mainly through exchanging the SM-like Higgs boson in order to get the required relic density.

Spectral function and quark diffusion constant in non-critical holographic QCD

Motivated by recent studies of intersecting D-brane systems in critical string theory and phenomenological AdS/QCD models, we present a detailed analysis for the vector and scalar fluctuations in a non-critical holographic QCD model in the high temperature phase, i.e., the chiral symmetric phase. This model is described by $N_f$ pairs of D4 and $\bar{\text{D4}}$ probe branes in a non-critical ${AdS_6}$ black hole background. Focusing on the hydrodynamic as well as the high frequency limit, we analytically obtain spectral functions for vector and scalar modes on the flavor probe. Then we extract the light quark diffusion constant for flavor current using three different methods and find that different methods give the same results. We also compute the heavy quark diffusion constant for comparison with the light quark case.

Structure function of holographic quark-gluon plasma: Sakai-Sugimoto model versus its non-critical version

Motivated by recent studies of deep inelastic scattering (DIS) off the $\mathcal{N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills (SYM) plasma, holographically dual to $AdS_5\times S^5$ black hole, we in this note use the spacelike flavor current to probe the internal structure of one holographic quark-gluon plasma, which is described by the Sakai-Sugimoto model at high temperature phase (i.e., the chiral symmetric phase). The plasma structure function is extracted from the retarded flavor current-current correlator. Our main aim here is to explore the effect of non-conformality on these physical quantities. As usual, our study is under the supergravity approximation and the limit of large color number. Although the Sakai-Sugimoto model is non-conformal, which makes the calculations more involved than the well-studied $\mathcal {N}$=4 SYM case, the result seems to indicate that the non-conformality has little essential effect on the physical picture of the internal structure of holographic plasma, which is consistent with the intuition from the asymptotic freedom of QCD at high energy. While the physical picture underlying our investigation is same as the DIS off the $\mathcal {N}$=4 SYM plasma with(out) flavor, the plasma structure functions are quantitatively different, especially their scaling dependence on the temperature, which can be recognized as model-dependent. As a comparison, we also do the same analysis for the non-critical version of the Sakai-Sugimoto model which is conformal in the sense that it has a constant dilaton vacuum. The result for this non-critical model is much similar to the conformal $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM plasma. We therefore attribute the above difference to the effect of non-conformality of the Sakai-Sugimoto model.

Top quark forward-backward asymmetry, FCNC decays and like-sign pair production as a joint probe of new physics

The anomaly of the top quark forward-backward asymmetry $A^t_{FB}$ observed at the Tevatron can be explained by the t-channel exchange of a neutral gauge boson (Z') which has sizable flavor changing coupling for top and up quarks. This gauge boson can also induce the top quark flavor-changing neutral-current (FCNC) decays and the like-sign top pair production at the LHC. In this work we focus on two models which predict such a Z', namely the left-right model and the U(1)_X model, to investigate the correlated effects on $A^t_{FB}$, the FCNC decays $t -> u V$ ($V=g,Z,γ$) and the like-sign top pair production at the LHC. We also pay special attention to the most recently measured $A^t_{FB}$ in the large top pair invariant mass region. We find that under the current experimental constraints both models can alleviate the deviation of $A^t_{FB}$ and, meanwhile, enhance the like-sign top pair production to the detectable level of the LHC. We also find that the two models give different predictions for the observables and their correlations, and thus they may even be distinguished by jointly studying these top quark observables.

Light dark matter in NMSSM and implication on Higgs phenomenology

For the experimental search of neutralino dark matter, it is important to know its allowed mass and scattering cross section with the nucleon. In order to figure out how light a neutralino dark matter can be predicted in low energy supersymmetry, we scan over the parameter space of the NMSSM (next-to-minimal supersymmetric model), assuming all the relevant soft mass parameters to be below TeV scale. We find that in the parameter space allowed by current experiments the neutralino dark matter can be as light as a few GeV and its scattering rate off the nucleon can reach the sensitivity of XENON100 and CoGeNT. As a result, a sizable parameter space is excluded by the current XENON100 and CoGeNT data (the plausible CoGeNT dark matter signal can also be explained). The future 6000 kg-days exposure of XENON100 will further explore (but cannot completely cover) the remained parameter space. Moreover, we find that in such a light dark matter scenario a light CP-even or CP-odd Higgs boson must be present to satisfy the measured dark matter relic density. Consequently, the SM-like Higgs boson $h_{SM}$ may decay predominantly into a pair of light Higgs bosons or a pair of neutralinos so that the conventional decays like $h_{SM} -> γγ$ is much suppressed.

Di-photon Higgs signal at the LHC: a comparative study for different supersymmetric models

As the most important discovery channel for a light Higgs boson at the LHC, the di-photon signal $gg->h->γγ$ is sensitive to underlying physics. In this work we investigate such a signal in a comparative way by considering three different supersymmetric models, namely the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model (NMSSM) and the nearly minimal supersymmetric standard model (nMSSM). Under the current collider and cosmological constraints we scan over the parameter space and obtain the following observation in the allowed parameter space: (i) In the nMSSM the signal rate is always suppressed; (ii) In the MSSM the signal rate is suppressed in most cases, but in a tiny corner of the parameter space it can be enhanced (maximally by a factor of 2); (iii) In the NMSSM the signal rate can be enhanced or suppressed depending on the parameter space, and the enhancement factor can be as large as 7.

The LHC di-photon Higgs signal predicted by little Higgs models

Little Higgs theory naturally predicts a light Higgs boson whose most important discovery channel at the LHC is the di-photon signal $pp\to h\to γγ$. In this work we perform a comparative study for this signal in some typical little Higgs models, namely the littlest Higgs model (LH), two littlest Higgs models with T-parity (named LHT-I and LHT-II) and the simplest little Higgs modes (SLH). We find that compared with the Standard Model prediction, the di-photon signal rate is always suppressed and the suppression extent can be quite different for different models. The suppression is mild ($\lsim 10%$) in the LH model but can be quite severe ($\simeq 90%$) in other three models. This means that discovering the light Higgs boson predicted by the little Higgs theory through the di-photon channel at the LHC will be more difficult than discovering the SM Higgs boson.

Semi-direct Gauge-Yukawa Mediation

We propose semi-direct Gauge-Yukawa mediation of supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking. The messenger fields mediating SUSY breaking to the visible sector do not directly couple with the goldstino field, and instead they have gauge and Yukawa interactions with some primary messenger fields which couple directly with the goldstino fields. From the explicit Feynman diagram calculations for the SUSY breaking soft masses, we find that the SUSY particle spectra can be realistic. Especially, this generalization of semi-direct gauge mediation solves the massless gaugino mass problem since the holomorphic soft mass terms of the messenger fields can be generated by Yukawa couplings. We also provide some arguments that this scenario can be realized naturally in some dynamical SUSY-breaking models such as the ISS-like model.

SUSY Dark Matter In Light Of CDMS/XENON Limits

In this talk we briefly review the current CDMS/XENON constraints on the neutralino dark matter in three popular supersymmetric models: the minimal (MSSM), the next-to-minimal (NMSSM) and the nearly minimal (nMSSM). The constraints from the dark matter relic density and various collider experiments are also taken into account. The conclusion is that for each model the current CDMS/XENON limits can readily exclude a large part of the parameter space allowed by other constraints and the future SuperCDMS or XENON100 can cover most of the allowed parameter space. The implication for the Higgs search at the LHC is also discussed. It is found that in the currently allowed parameter space the MSSM charged Higgs boson is quite unlikely to be discovered at the LHC while the neutral Higgs bosons $H$ and $A$ may be accessible at the LHC in the parameter space with a large $μ$ parameter.

New physics effects on top quark spin correlation and polarization at the LHC: a comparative study in different models

Extensions of the Standard Model often predict new chiral interactions for top quark, which will contribute to top quark spin correlation and polarization in $t\bar{t}$ production at the LHC. In this work, under the constraints from the current Tevatron measurements, a comparative study of the spin correlation and polarization is performed in three new physics models: the minimal supersymmetric model without R-parity (RPV-MSSM), the third-generation enhanced left-right model and the axigluon model. We find that the polarization asymmetry may be enhanced to the accessible level in all these models while the correction to the spin correlation may be detectable in the axigluon model and the RPV-MSSM with $λ"$ couplings.

SU(7) Unification of SU(3)_C*SU(4)_W* U(1)_{B-L}

We propose the SUSY SU(7) unification of the SU(3)_C* SU(4)_W* U(1)_{B-L} model. Such unification scenario has rich symmetry breaking chains in a five-dimensional orbifold. We study in detail the SUSY SU(7) symmetry breaking into SU(3)_C* SU(4)_W* U(1)_{B-L} by boundary conditions in a Randall-Sundrum background and its AdS/CFT interpretation. We find that successful gauge coupling unification can be achieved in our scenario. Gauge unification favors low left-right and unification scales with tree-level \sin^2θ_W=0.15. We use the AdS/CFT dual of the conformal supersymmetry breaking scenario to break the remaining N=1 supersymmetry. We employ AdS/CFT to reproduce the NSVZ formula and obtain the structure of the Seiberg duality in the strong coupling region for 3/2N_c<N_F<3N_C. We show that supersymmetry is indeed broken in the conformal supersymmetry breaking scenario with a vanishing singlet vacuum expectation value.

Rare Z-decay into light CP-odd Higgs bosons: a comparative study in different new physics models

Various new physics models predict a light CP-odd Higgs boson (labeled as $a$) and open up new decay modes for Z-boson, such as $Z \to \bar{f} f a$, $Z\to aγ$ and $Z\to aaa$, which could be explored at the GigaZ option of the ILC. In this work we investigate these rare decays in several new physics models, namely the type-II two Higgs doublet model (type-II 2HDM), the lepton-specific two Higgs doublet model (L2HDM), the nearly minimal supersymetric standard model (nMSSM) and the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model (NMSSM). We find that in the parameter space allowed by current experiments, the branching ratios can reach $10^{-4}$ for $Z \to \bar{f} f a $ ($f=b,τ$), $10^{-9}$ for $Z\to aγ$ and $10^{-3}$ for $Z\to aaa$, which implies that the decays $Z \to \bar{f} f a$ and $Z \to a a a$ may be accessible at the GigaZ option. Moreover, since different models predict different patterns of the branching ratios, the measurement of these rare decays at the GigaZ may be utilized to distinguish the models.
