Gluino-SUGRA scenarios in light of FNAL muon g-2 anomaly

Gluino-SUGRA ($\tilde{g}$SUGRA), which is an economical extension of the predictive mSUGRA, adopts much heavier gluino mass parameter than other gauginos mass parameters and universal scalar mass parameter at the unification scale. It can elegantly reconcile the experimental results on the Higgs boson mass, the muon $g-2$, the null results in search for supersymmetry at the LHC and the results from B-physics. In this work, we propose several new ways to generate large gaugino hierarchy (i.e. $M_3\gg M_1,M_2$) for $\tilde{g}$SUGRA model building and then discuss in detail the implications of the new muon $g-2$ results with the updated LHC constraints on such $\tilde{g}$SUGRA scenarios. We obtain the following observations: (i) For the most interesting $M_1=M_2$ case at the GUT scale with a viable bino-like dark matter, the $\tilde{g}$SUGRA can explain the muon $g-2$ anomaly at $1σ$ level and be consistent with the updated LHC constraints for $6\leq M_3/M_1 \leq 9$ at the GUT scale; (ii) For $M_1:M_2=5:1$ at the GUT scale with wino-like dark matter, the $\tilde{g}$SUGRA model can explain the muon $g-2$ anomaly at $2σ$ level and be consistent with the updated LHC constraints for $3\leq M_3/M_1 \leq 3.2$ at the GUT scale; (iii) For $M_1:M_2=3:2$ at the GUT scale with mixed bino-wino dark matter, the $\tilde{g}$SUGRA model can explain the muon $g-2$ anomaly at $1σ$ level and be consistent with the updated LHC constraints for $6.9\leq M_3/M_1 \leq 7.5$ at the GUT scale. Although the choice of heavy gluino will always increase the FT involved, some of the $1σ/2σ$ survived points of $Δa_μ^{combine}$ can still allow low EWFT of order several hundreds and be fairly natural. Constraints from (dimension-five operator induced) proton decay are also discussed.

Constraining CP-phases in SUSY: an interplay of muon/electron $g-2$ and electron EDM

The minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) with complex parameters can contribute sizably to muon/electron anomalous magnetic dipole momemnt ($g-2$) and electric dipole moment (EDM). The electron $g-2$ interplays with electron EDM; the muon $g-2$ can also interplay with electron EDM assuming the universality between smuon and selectron masses, either of which can constrain the relevant CP-phases in the MSSM. In this work, we first use such an interplay to derive an approximate analytical upper limit on the relevant CP-phase. Then we extensively scan the parameter space to obtain more accurate upper limits. We obtain the following observations: (i) The muon $g-2$ in the $2σ$ range combined with the electron EDM upper limit (assuming the universality between smuon and selectron masses) typically constrains the relevant CP-phase under $1.9\times 10^{-5} (\text{rad})$; (ii) The electron $g-2$ in the $2σ$ range (Berkeley) interplays with the electron EDM upper limit (without assuming the universality between smuon and selectron masses) constrains the relevant CP-phase under $3.9\times 10^{-6}(\text{rad})$ (also requiring muon $g-2$ in the allowed $2σ$ range). We also find some special cancellations in the parameter space which can relax the constraints by a couple of orders. Such stringent limits on CP-phases may pose a challenge for model building of SUSY, i.e., how to naturally suppress these phases.

Detecting an axion-like particle with machine learning at the LHC

Axion-like particles (ALPs) appear in various new physics models with spontaneous global symmetry breaking. When the ALP mass is in the range of MeV to GeV, the cosmology and astrophysics bounds are so far quite weak. In this work, we investigate such light ALPs through the ALP-strahlung production processes $pp \to W^\pm a, Z a$ with the sequential decay $a \to γγ$ at the 14 TeV LHC with an integrated luminosity of 3000 fb$^{-1}$ (HL-LHC). Building on the concept of jet image which uses calorimeter towers as the pixels of the image and measures a jet as an image, we investigate the potential of machine learning techniques based on convolutional neural network (CNN) to identify the highly boosted ALPs which decay to a pair of highly collimated photons. With the CNN tagging algorithm, we demonstrate that our approach can extend current LHC sensitivity and probe the ALP mass range from 0.3~GeV to 5~GeV. The obtained bounds are stronger than the existing limits on the ALP-photon coupling.

Photon-jet events as a probe of axion-like particles at the LHC

Axion-like particles (ALPs) are predicted by many extensions of the Standard Model (SM). When ALP mass lies in the range of MeV to GeV, the cosmology and astrophysics will be largely irrelevant. In this work, we investigate such light ALPs through the ALP-strahlung process $pp \to V a (\to γγ)$ at the 14 TeV LHC with an integrated luminosity of 3000 fb$^{-1}$ (HL-LHC). With the photon-jet algorithm, we demonstrate that our approach can probe the mass range of ALPs, which is inaccessible to previous LHC experiments. The obtained result can surpass the existing limits on ALP-photon coupling in the ALP mass range from 0.3 GeV to 10 GeV.

Probing triple Higgs coupling with machine learning at the LHC

Measuring the triple Higgs coupling is a crucial task in the LHC and future collider experiments. We apply the Message Passing Neural Network (MPNN) to the study of the non-resonant Higgs pair production process $pp \to hh$ in the final state with $2b + 2\ell + E_{\rm T}^{\rm miss}$ at the LHC. Although the MPNN can improve the signal significance, it is still challenging to observe such a process at the LHC. We find that a $2σ$ upper bound (including a 10\% systematic uncertainty) on the production cross section of the Higgs pair is 3.7 times the predicted SM cross section at the LHC with the luminosity of 3000 fb$^{-1}$, which will limit the triple Higgs coupling to the range of $[-3,11.5]$.

GUT-scale constrained SUSY in light of E989 muon g-2 measurement

The new FNAL result of the muon $g-2$, combined with the BNL result, shows a 4.2$σ$ deviation from the SM. We use the new data of the muon $g-2$ to revisit several GUT-scale constrained SUSY models with the constraints from the LHC searches, the dark matter detection, the flavor data and the electroweak vacuum stability. We first demonstrate the tension between the muon $g-2$ and other experimental measurements in the CMSSM/mSUGRA. Then after discussing the possible ways to alleviate such a tension and showing the muon $g-2$ in pMSSM under relevant experimental constraints, we survey several extensions of the CMSSM/mSUGRA with different types of universal boundary conditions at the GUT scale. Finally, we briefly discuss the muon $g-2$ in other popular SUSY breaking mechanisms, namely the GMSB and AMSB mechanisms and their extensions.

An explicit calculation of pseudo-goldstino mass at the leading three-loop level

Pseudo-goldstinos appear in the scenario of multi-sector SUSY breaking. Unlike the true goldstino which is massless and absorbed by the gravitino, pseudo-goldstinos could obtain mass from radiative effects. In this note, working in the scenario of two-sector SUSY breaking with gauge mediation, we explicitly calculate the pseudo-goldstino mass at the leading three-loop level and provide the analytical results. In our calculation we consider the general case of messenger masses (not necessarily equal) and include the higher order terms of SUSY breaking scales. Our results can reproduce the numerical value estimated previously at the leading order of SUSY breaking scales with the assumption of equal messenger masses. It turns out that the results are very sensitive to the ratio of messenger masses, while the higher order terms of SUSY breaking scales are rather small in magnitude. Depending on the ratio of messenger masses, the pseudo-goldstino mass can be as low as ${{\cal O} (0.1)}$ GeV.

Probing bino NLSP at lepton colliders

We consider a scenario where light bino is the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle (NLSP) and gravitino/axino is the lightest superysmmetric particle (LSP). For a bino mass less than or around hundred GeV, it can be pair produced at the future lepton colliders through $t-$channel slepton exchange, subsequently decaying into a gravitino/axino plus a photon. We study the prospects to look for such binos at the future colliders and find that a bino mass around 100 GeV can be probed at the $2σ$ ($5σ$) level for a slepton below 2 TeV (1.5 TeV) with a luminosity 3 $ab^{-1}$. For a bino mass around 10 GeV, a slepton mass less than 4 TeV (3 TeV) can be probed at the $2σ$ ($5σ$) level, which is much beyond the reach of the LHC for direct slepton searches.

Atmospheric Dark Matter and Xenon1T Excess

Very recently, the Xenon1T collaboration has reported an intriguing electron recoil excess, which may imply for light dark matter. In order to interpret this anomaly, we propose the atmospheric dark matter (ADM) from the inelastic collision of cosmic rays (CRs) with the atmosphere. Due to the boost effect of high energy CRs, we show that the light ADM can be fast-moving and successfully fit the observed electron recoil spectrum through the ADM-electron scattering process. Meanwhile, our ADM predicts the scattering cross section $σ_e \sim {\cal O}(10^{-38}- 10^{-39}$) cm$^{2}$, and thus can evade other direct detection constraints. The search for light meson rare decays, such as $η\to π+ \slashed E_T$, would provide a complementary probe of our ADM in the future.

Light gravitino dark matter: LHC searches and Hubble tension

The recent measurements of the cosmological parameter $H_0$ from the direct local observations and the inferred value from the Cosmic Microwave Background show $\sim 4 σ$ discrepancy. This may indicate new physics beyond the standard $Λ$CDM. We investigate the keV gravitino dark matter that has a small fraction of non-thermal component (e.g. from the late decay of NLSP bino) under various cosmological constraints. We find such a scenario is highly predictive and can be tested by searching for the dilepton plus missing energy events at the LHC. Besides, we also discuss its implication for Hubble tension, however, which can be reduced to $3σ$ level marginally.

Cosmic Ray Boosted Sub-GeV Gravitationally Interacting Dark Matter in Direct Detection

Detections of non-gravitational interactions of massive dark matter (DM) with visible sector so far have given null results. The DM may communicate with the ordinary matter only through gravitational interaction. Besides, the majority of traditional direct detections have poor sensitivities for light DM because of the small recoil energy. Thanks to the high energy cosmic rays (CRs), the light DM can be boosted by scattering with CRs and thus may be detected in the ongoing experiments. In this work, we derive the exclusion limits on the cosmic ray boosted sub-GeV DM with gravitational mediator from the Xenon1T data. It turns out that a sizable region of such a cosmic ray boosted DM can be excluded by the current data.

MSSM at future Higgs factories

In this work, we study the implication of Higgs precision measurements at future Higgs factories on the MSSM parameter space, focusing on the dominant stop sector contributions. We perform a multi-variable fit to both the signal strength for various Higgs decay channels at Higgs factories and the Higgs mass. The chi-square fit results show sensitivity to mA, tan beta, stop mass parameter mSUSY as well as the stop left-right mixing parameter Xt. We also study the impact of the Higgs mass prediction on the MSSM and compare the sensitivities of different Higgs factories.

LFV and g-2 in non-universal SUSY models with light higgsinos

We consider a supersymmetric type-I seesaw framework with non-universal scalar masses at the GUT scale to explain the long-standing discrepancy of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. We find that it is difficult to accommodate the muon g-2 while keeping charged-lepton flavor violating processes under control for the conventional SO(10)-based relation between the up sector and neutrino sector. However, such tension can be relaxed by adding a Georgi-Jarlskog factor for the Yukawa matrices, which requires a non-trivial GUT-based model. In this model, we find that both observables are compatible for small mixings, CKM-like, in the neutrino Dirac Yukawa matrix.

Dirac dark matter in $U(1)_{B-L}$ with Stueckelberg mechanism

We investigate a $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge extension of the Standard Model (SM) where the gauge boson mass is generated by the Stueckelberg mechanism. Three right-handed neutrinos are added to cancel the gauge anomaly and hence the neutrino masses can be explained. A new Dirac fermion could be a WIMP dark matter whose interaction with the SM sector is mediated by the new gauge boson. Assuming the perturbativity of the gauge coupling up to the Planck scale, we find that only the resonance region is feasible for the dark matter abundance. After applying the $ΔN_{eff}$ constraints from the current Planck experiment, the collider search constraints as well as the dark matter direct detection limits, we observe that the $B-L$ charge of dark matter satisfies $|Q_χ|>0.11$. Such a scenario might be probed conclusively by the projected CMB-S4 experiment, assuming the right-handed neutrinos are thermalized with the SM sector in the early universe.

Probing stops in the coannihilation region at the HL-LHC: a comparative study of different processes

In the minimal supersymmetric model, the coannihilation of the lighter stop $\tilde{t}_1$ and bino-like dark matter $χ$ provides a feasible way to accommodate the correct dark matter relic abundance. In this scenario, due to the compressed masses, $\tilde{t}_1$ merely appears as missing energy at the LHC and thus the pair production of $\tilde{t}_1$ can only be probed by requiring an associated energetic jet. Meanwhile, since $\tilde{t}_2$ and $\tilde{b}_1$ are correlated in mass and mixing with $\tilde{t}_1$, the production of $\tilde{t}_2\tilde{t}_2^*$ or $\tilde{b}_1\tilde{b}_1^*$, each of which dominantly decays into $\tilde{t}_1$ plus $Z$, $h$ or $W$ boson, may serve as a complementary probe. We examine all these processes at the HL-LHC and find that the $2σ$ sensitivity to $χ$ mass can be as large as about 570 GeV, 600 GeV and 1.1 TeV from the production process of $\tilde{t}_1\tilde{t}_1^*+{\rm jet}$, $\tilde{t}_2\tilde{t}_2^*$ and $\tilde{b}_1\tilde{b}_1^*$, respectively.

Testing electroweak SUSY for muon $g-2$ and dark matter at the LHC and beyond

Given that the LHC experiment has produced strong constraints on the colored supersymmetric particles (sparticles), testing the electroweak supersymmetry (EWSUSY) will be the next crucial task at the LHC. On the other hand, the light electroweakinos and sleptons in the EWSUSY can also contribute to the dark matter (DM) and low energy lepton observables. The precision measurements of them will provide the indirect evidence of SUSY. In this work, we confront the EWSUSY with the muon $g-2$ anomaly, the DM relic density, the direct detection limits and the latest LHC Run-2 data. We find that the sneutrino DM or the neutralino DM with sizable higgsino component has been excluded by the direct detections. Then two viable scenarios are pinned down: one has the light compressed bino and sleptons but heavy higgsinos, and the other has the light compressed bino, winos and sleptons. In the former case, the LSP and slepton masses have to be smaller than about 350 GeV. While in the latter case, the LSP and slepton masses have to be smaller than about 700 GeV and 800 GeV, respectively. From investigating the observability of these sparticles in both scenarios at future colliders, it turns out that the HE-LHC with a luminosity of 15 ab$^{-1}$ can exclude the whole BHL and most part of BWL scenarios at $2σ$ level. The precision measurement of the Higgs couplings at the lepton colliders could play a complementary role of probing the BWL scenario.

Probing stop pair production at the LHC with graph neural networks

Top-squarks (stops) play a crucial role for the naturalness of supersymmetry (SUSY). However, searching for the stops is a tough task at the LHC. To dig the stops out of the huge LHC data, various expert-constructed kinematic variables or cutting-edge analysis techniques have been invented. In this paper, we propose to represent collision events as event graphs and use the message passing neutral network (MPNN) to analyze the events. As a proof-of-concept, we use our method in the search of the stop pair production at the LHC, and find that our MPNN can efficiently discriminate the signal and background events. In comparison with other machine learning methods (e.g. DNN), MPNN can enhance the mass reach of stop mass by several tens of GeV to over a hundred GeV.
