Diboson excess and $Z'$-predictions via left-right non-linear Higgs

The excess events reported by the ATLAS Collaboration in the $WZ$-final state, and by the CMS Collaboration in the $e^+\!e^- jj$, $Wh$ and $jj$-final states, may be induced by the decays of a heavy boson $W'$ in the 1.8-2 TeV mass range, here modelled via the larger local group $SU(2)_L\times SU(2)_R\times U(1)_{B-L}$ in a non-linear dynamical Higgs scenario. The $W'$-production cross section at the 13 TeV LHC is around 700-1200 fb. This framework also predicts a heavy $Z'$ boson with a mass of 2.5-4 TeV, and some decay channels testable in the LHC Run II. We determine the cross section times branching fractions for the dijet, dilepton and top-pair $Z'$-decay channels at the 13 TeV LHC around 2.3, 7.1, 70.2 fb respectively, for $M_{Z'}= 2.5$ TeV, while one/two orders of magnitude smaller for the dijet/dilepton and top-pair modes at $M_{Z'}= 4$ TeV. Non-zero contributions from the effective operators, and the underlying Higgs sector of the model, will induce sizeable enhancement in the $W^+W^-$ and $Z h$-final states that could be probed in the future LHC Run II.

Left-right non-linear dynamical Higgs

All the possible CP-conserving non-linear operators up to the $p^4$-order in the Lagrangian expansion are analysed here for the left-right symmetric model in the non-linear electroweak chiral context coupled to a light dynamical Higgs. The low energy effects will be triggered by an emerging new physics field content in the nature, more specifically, from spin-1 resonances sourced by the straightforward extension of the SM local gauge symmetry to the larger local group $SU(2)_L\otimes SU(2)_R\otimes U(1)_{B-L}$. Low energy phenomenology will be altered by integrating out the resonances from the physical spectrum, being manifested through induced corrections onto the left handed operators. Such modifications are weighted by powers of the scales ratio implied by the symmetries of the model and will determine the size of the effective operator basis to be used. The recently observed diboson excess around the invariant mass 1.8-2 TeV entails a scale suppression that suggests to encode the low energy effects via a much smaller set of effective operators.

Disentangling Strong Dynamics through Quantum Interferometry

We present a new probe of strongly coupled electroweak symmetry breaking at the 14 TeV LHC by measuring a phase shift in the event distribution as a function of the decay azimuthal angles in massive gauge boson scattering. A large phase shift arises from an interference effect between the strongly interacting longitudinal modes and the transverse modes of the gauge bosons. We find that even very broad resonances of masses up to 900 GeV can be probed at 3$σ$ significance with a 3000 fb$^{-1}$ run of the LHC by using this technique. We also present the estimated reach for a future 50 TeV proton-proton collider.

Probing CP Violation in $h\rightarrowγγ$ with Converted Photons

We study Higgs diphoton decays, in which both photons undergo nuclear conversion to electron- positron pairs. The kinematic distribution of the two electron-positron pairs may be used to probe the CP violating (CPV) coupling of the Higgs to photons, that may be produced by new physics. Detecting CPV in this manner requires interference between the spin-polarized helicity amplitudes for both conversions. We derive leading order, analytic forms for these amplitudes. In turn, we obtain compact, leading-order expressions for the full process rate. While performing experiments involving photon conversions may be challenging, we use the results of our analysis to construct experimental cuts on certain observables that may enhance sensitivity to CPV. We show that there exist regions of phase space on which sensitivity to CPV is of order unity. The statistical sensitivity of these cuts are verified numerically, using dedicated Monte-Carlo simulations.

Prospects for Triple Gauge Coupling Measurements at Future Lepton Colliders and the 14 TeV LHC

The $WW$ production is the primary channel to directly probe the triple gauge couplings. We first analyze the $e^+ e^- \rightarrow W^+ W^-$ process at the future lepton collider, China's proposed Circular Electron-Positron Collider (CEPC). We use the five kinematical angles in this process to constrain the anomalous triple gauge couplings and relevant dimension six operators at the CEPC up to the order of magnitude of $10^{-4}$. The most sensible information is obtained from the distributions of the production scattering angle and the decay azimuthal angles. We also estimate constraints at the 14 TeV LHC, with both 300 fb$^{-1}$ and 3000 fb$^{-1}$ integrated luminosity from the leading lepton $p_T$ and azimuthal angle difference $Δϕ_{ll}$ distributions in the di-lepton channel. The constrain is somewhat weaker, up to the order of magnitude of $10^{-3}$. The limits on the triple gauge couplings are complementary to those on the electroweak precision observables and Higgs couplings. Our results show that the gap between sensitivities of the electroweak and triple gauge boson precision can be significantly decreased to less than one order of magnitude at the 14 TeV LHC, and that both the two sensitivities can be further improved at the CEPC.

Low Scale Composite Higgs Model and 1.8 $\sim$ 2 TeV Diboson Excess

We consider a simple solution to explain the recent diboson excess observed by ATALS and CMS Collaborations in models with custodial symmetry $SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R \rightarrow SU(2)_c$. The $SU(2)_L$ triplet vector boson $ρ$ with mass range of $1.8 \sim 2$ TeV would be produced through the Drell-Yan process with sizable diboson decay branching to account for the excess. The other $SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R$ bidoublet axial vector boson $a$ would cancel all deviations of electroweak obervables induced by $ρ$ even if the SM fermions mix with some heavy vector like (composite) fermions which couple to $ρ$ ("non-universally partially composite"), therefore allows arbitrary couplings between each SM fermion and $ρ$. We present our model in the "General Composite Higgs" framework with $SO(5) \times U(1)_X \rightarrow SO(4) \times U(1)_X$ breaking at scale $f$ and demand the first Weinberg sum rule and positive gauge boson form factors as the theoretical constraints. We find that our model can fit the diboson excess very well if the left-handed SM light quarks, charged leptons and tops have zero, zero/moderately small and moderate/large composite components for reasonable values of $g_ρ$ and $f$. The correlation between tree level $S$ parameter and the $h \rightarrow Z γ$ suggest a large $a$ contribution to $h \rightarrow Z γ$ and it is indeed a $\mathcal{O}(1)$ effect in our parameter space which provides a strong hint for our scenario if this diboson excess is confirmed by the $13 \sim 14$ TeV LHC Run II.

The interpretation for Galactic Center Excess and Electroweak Phase Transition in the NMSSM

The gamma-ray excess observed by the Fermi-LAT in the Galactic Center can be interpreted by the dark matter annihilation to $b\bar{b}$ via a light pseudoscalar in the NMSSM. It is interesting to note that the corresponding singlet scalar is useful to achieve a strongly first order phase transition required by the electroweak baryogenesis. In this paper, we investigate the possibility that the NMSSM model can simultaneously accommodate these two issues. The phase transition strength can be characterized by the vacua energy gap at zero temperature and be sufficiently enhanced by the tree-level effect in the NMSSM. We find that the annihilation of Singlino/Higgsino DM particles occurring close to the light pseudoscalar resonance is favored by the galactic center excess and the observed DM relic density, and a resulting small $κ/λ$ and a negative $A_κ$ can also lead to a successful strongly first order electroweak phase transition.

Two component dark matter with multi-Higgs portals

With the assistance of two extra groups, i.e., an extra hidden gauge group $SU(2)_D$ and a global $U(1)$ group, we propose a two component dark matter (DM) model. After the symmetry $SU(2)_D\times U(1)$ being broken, we obtain both the vector and scalar DM candidates. The two DM candidates communicate with the standard model (SM) via three Higgs as multi-Higgs portals. The three Higgs are mixing states of the SM Higgs, the Higgs of the hidden sector and real part of a supplement complex scalar singlet. We study relic density and direct detection of DM in three scenarios. The resonance behaviors and interplay between the two component DM candidates are represented through investigating of the relic density in the parameter spaces of the two DMs masses. The electroweak precision parameters constrains the two Higgs portals couplings ($λ_m$ and $δ_2$). The relevant vacuum stability and naturalness problem in the parameter space of $λ_m$ and $δ_2$ are studied as well. The model could alleviate these two problems in some parameter spaces under the constraints of electroweak precision observables and Higgs indirect search.

Post-ACME2013 CP-violation in Higgs Physics and Electroweak Baryogenesis

We present a class of cancellation mechanisms to suppress the total contributions of Barr-Zee diagrams to the electron electric dipole moment (eEDM). This class of mechanisms are of particular significance after the new eEDM upper limit, which strongly constrains the allowed magnitude of CP-violation in Higgs couplings and hence the feasibility of electroweak baryogenesis (EWBG), were released by the ACME collaboration in 2013. We point out: if both the CP-odd Higgs-photon-photon ($Z$ boson) and the CP-odd Higgs-electron-positron couplings are turned on, a cancellation may occur either between the contributions of a CP-mixing Higgs boson, with the other Higgs bosons being decoupled, or between the contributions of a CP-even and a CP-odd Higgs bosons. With the assistance of the cancellation mechanisms, a large CP-phase in Higgs couplings with viable electroweak baryogenesis (EWBG) is still allowed. The reopened parameter regions would be probed by the future neutron, mercury EDM measurements, and direct measurements of Higgs CP-properties at the LHC and future colliders.

New Insights of Electroweak Phase Transition in NMSSM

We perform a detailed semi-analytical analysis of the electroweak phase transition (EWPT) property in NMSSM, which serves as a good benchmark model in which the 126 GeV Higgs mixes with a singlet. In this case, a strongly first order electroweak phase transition (SFOEWPT) is achieved by the tree-level effects and the phase transition strength $γ_c$ is determined by the vacua energy gap at $T=0$. We make an anatomy of the energy gap at both tree-level and loop-level and extract out a dimensionless phase transition parameter $R_κ\equiv 4 κv_s / A_κ$, which can replace $A_κ$ in the parameterization and affect the light CP odd and even Higgs spectra. We find that SFOEWPT only occurs in $R_κ\sim -1$ and positive $R_κ\lesssim \mathcal{O}(10)$, which in the non-PQ limit case would prefer either a relatively light CP odd or CP even Higgs boson $\sim (60, 100)$ GeV, therefore serves as a smoking gun signal and requires new search strategies at the LHC.

Impact of a CP Violating Higgs: from LHC to Baryogenesis

We observe a generic connection between LHC Higgs data and electroweak baryogenesis: the particle that contributes to the CP odd $hgg$ or $h γγ$ vertex would provide the CP violating source during a first order phase transition. It is illustrated in the 2HDM that a common complex phase controls the lightest Higgs properties at the LHC, electric dipole moments and the CP violating source for electroweak baryogenesis. We perform a general parametrization of Higgs effective couplings and a global fit to the LHC Higgs data. Current LHC measurements prefer a nonzero phase for $\tan β\lesssim 1$ and EDM constraints still allow an order one phase for $\tanβ\sim1$, which gives sufficient room to generate the correct cosmic baryon asymmetry. We also give some prospects in the direct measurements of CP violation in the Higgs sector at the LHC.

Towards the fate of natural composite Higgs model through single $t^\prime$ search at the 8 TeV LHC

We analyze the observational potential of single $t'$ production in both the $t^\prime \rightarrow bW$ and $t^\prime \rightarrow th$ decay channels at 8 TeV LHC using an integrated luminosity of 25 $\text{fb}^{-1}$. Our analysis is based on a simplified model with minimal coset $SO(5)/SO(4)$ in which the $t'$ is a singlet of the unbroken SO(4). The single $t'$ production, as a consequence of electroweak symmetry breaking, is less kinematically suppressed, associated with a light forward jet and has boosted decay products at the 8 TeV LHC. Therefore it provides the most promising channel in searching for a heavy $t'$. We have exploited the above kinematical features and used the jet substructure method to reconstruct the boosted Higgs in $th$ decay channel. It is shown that a strong constraint on the $t^\prime bW$ coupling ($g_{t^\prime bW}/g_{tbW,SM} < 0.2 \sim 0.3$) at the 95% C. L. can be obtained for $m_{t'} \subset (700, 1000)$ GeV.

On the Higgs Fit and Electroweak Phase Transition

We consider the Higgs portal through which light scalars contribute both to the Higgs production and decay and Higgs effective potential at finite temperature via quantum loops. The positive Higgs portal coupling required by a strongly first order electroweak phase transition is disfavored by the current Higgs data if we consider one such scalar. We observe that by introducing a second scalar with negative Higgs portal coupling, one can not only improve the Higgs fits, but also enhance the strength of first order EWPT. We apply this mechanism to the light stop scenario for electroweak baryogenesis in the MSSM and find a light sbottom could play the role as the second scalar, which allows the stop to be relatively heavier. Non-decoupled effects on the Higgs or sbottom self-interactions from physics beyond MSSM is found to be indispensable for this scenario to work. A clear prediction from the picture is the existence of a light sbottom (below 200 GeV) and a light stop (can be as heavy as 140 GeV), which can be directly tested in the near future.

Probing the CP-even Higgs Sector via $H_3\to H_2H_1$ in the Natural NMSSM

After the discovery of a Standard Model (SM) like Higgs boson, naturalness strongly favors the next to the Minimal Supersymmetric SM (NMSSM). In this letter, we point out that the most natural NMSSM predicts the following CP-even Higgs $H_i$ sector: (A) $H_2$ is the SM-like Higgs boson with mass pushed-upward by a lighter $H_1$ with mass overwhelmingly within $[m_{H_2}/2,m_{H_2}]$; (B) $m_{H_3}\simeq 2μ/\sin2β\gtrsim300$ GeV; (C) $H_3$ has a significant coupling to top quarks and can decay to $H_1H_2$ with a large branching ratio. Using jet substructure we show that all the three Higgs bosons can be discovered via $gg\to H_3 \to H_1H_2\to b\bar b \ellνjj$ at the 14 TeV LHC. Especially, the LEP-LHC scenario with $H_1\simeq98$ GeV has a very good discovery potential.

General Composite Higgs Models

We construct a general class of pseudo-Goldstone composite Higgs models, within the minimal SO(5)/SO(4) coset structure, that are not necessarily of moose-type. We characterize the main properties these models should have in order to give rise to a Higgs mass around 125 GeV. We assume the existence of relatively light and weakly coupled spin 1 and 1/2 resonances. In absence of a symmetry principle, we introduce the Minimal Higgs Potential (MHP) hypothesis: the Higgs potential is assumed to be one-loop dominated by the SM fields and the above resonances, with a contribution that is made calculable by imposing suitable generalizations of the first and second Weinberg sum rules. We show that a 125 GeV Higgs requires light, often sub-TeV, fermion resonances. Their presence can also be important for the models to successfully pass the electroweak precision tests. Interestingly enough, the latter can also be passed by models with a heavy Higgs around 320 GeV. The composite Higgs models of the moose-type considered in the literature can be seen as particular limits of our class of models.

Electroweak Beautygenesis: From b {\to} s CP-violation to the Cosmic Baryon Asymmetry

We address the possibility that CP-violation in $B_s-\bar B_s$ mixing may help explain the origin of the cosmic baryon asymmetry. We propose a new baryogenesis mechanism - "Electroweak Beautygenesis" - explicitly showing that these two CP-violating phenomena can be sourced by a common CP-phase. As an illustration, we work in the Two-Higgs-Doublet model. Because the relevant CP-phase is flavor off-diagonal, this mechanism is less severely constrained by null results of electric dipole moment searches than other scenarios. We show how measurements of flavor observables by the D0, CDF, and LHCb collaborations test this scenario.

Review of new physics effects in t-tbar production

Both CDF and DO report a forward-backward asymmetry in t-tbar production that is above the standard model prediction. We review new physics models that can give a large forward backward asymmetry in t-tbar production at the Tevatron and the constraints these models face from searches for dijet resonances and contact interactions, from flavor physics and the t-tbar cross section. Expected signals at the LHC are also reviewed.

Two jets and missing $E_T$ signature to determine the spins of the new particles

We consider the spin determination of new colored particles in the missing energy plus jets channel at the early stage of LHC. We use a three site moose model to describe the low energy Lagrangian of all same spin partner (LHT or UED like) models and check the gauge invariance of the amplitude. For the benchmark production and decay channel $pp \rightarrow U^{(R)} U^{(R)} \rightarrow u u B_H B_H$, in contrast to those in supersymmetric models, there are spin correlations which affect the polar and azimuthal angle distributions of the quarks from the heavy partner $U^{(R)}$ decay. We show such effects would be visible in the $E_{\rm T miss} / M_{\rm eff}$ distribution and the reconstructed azimuthal angle correlation using MAOS reconstruction.
