Quantum Clausius relation beyond de Sitter equilibrium

We establish a direct quantum Clausius relation for conformal fields inside the apparent horizon of a quasi-de Sitter spacetime. We compute the net heat flow across the horizon from the renormalized stress-energy tensor, and independently determine the time evolution of the renormalized von Neumann entropy using the replica method. At leading order in the Hubble-flow expansion, the two calculations agree exactly, without using the gravitational equations of motion. Beyond leading order, we find a scheme-independent entropy balance that includes the corresponding Wald entropy. Our results provide a quantum field theoretic realization of dynamical horizon thermodynamics beyond exact de Sitter equilibrium.

Planck isocurvature constraint on primordial black holes lighter than a kiloton

We demonstrate that primordial black holes (PBHs) lighter than $10^9 \, \text{g}$, which evaporated before the big bang nucleosynthesis, can induce significant isocurvature perturbations due to their biased clustering amplitude and the branching ratio of the Hawking radiation differing from the abundance ratio. By leveraging the upper bound on the isocurvature perturbations from the cosmic microwave background anisotropies reported by the Planck collaboration, we derive a new upper bound on the abundance of these light PBHs in the presence of primordial non-Gaussianity as a working example.

Ultra slow-turn inflation

In standard multi-field models, tachyonic isocurvature perturbations generally indicate the presence of an instability. We revisit the stability of some known counterexamples and show that, in a certain class of models that we call ultra slow-turn, an exponentially decreasing turn rate can shut off this potential instability. We argue that the stability of a given model can be correctly inferred by the total entropy perturbation, even if the effective mass squared of the isocurvature perturbation is negative. Several recent supergravity- or string-inspired models such as fibre inflation, SL(2,$\mathbb{Z}$) attractors and modular inflation fall into the ultra slow-turn class.

Reheating as a variational probe of cosmological observables

We formulate reheating as a constrained variational problem in the space of equation-of-state histories, rather than attempting to describe it through microscopic models. We introduce a regularized functional framework that identifies reheating histories which extremize a given cosmological observable under minimal physical assumptions. As illustrative applications, we consider prompt gravitational waves, induced gravitational waves, and primordial black holes. We find that different observables select qualitatively different regions of reheating-history space. These examples demonstrate that cosmological observables define distinct extremal directions in reheating-history space and can therefore be used to systematically explore the space of post-inflationary expansion histories.

Kinetic Isocurvature Perturbation

We formulate a new class of primordial perturbations called $\textit{kinetic isocurvature perturbations}$, where the mass density of dark matter is constant relative to the photon number density while the kinetic energy of dark matter fluctuates in space. Such perturbations naturally arise in scenarios where a nonrelativistic heavy field decays into relativistic dark matter particles with a spatially modulated rate. As dark matter cools and becomes nonrelativistic, these fluctuations in kinetic energy leave large-scale density perturbations essentially unaffected and therefore evade the Cosmic Microwave Background bounds on isocurvature perturbations, yet survive as spatial variations in the free-streaming scale, resulting in patch-by-patch variation of the matter power spectrum.

Weakly model-independent determination of total expansion during inflation

We study systematically the total expansion experienced by a certain perturbation mode during single-field inflation, not resorting to explicit models of inflation or reheating. By assuming that during the reheating stage the equation of state w{rh} can be written as a function of e-folds, the unknown dynamics during reheating parametrized by w{rh} is confined within a time integral so that any dependence on the models of inflation and reheating is isolated from model-independent contributions. Especially, the dependence on the reheating dynamics via w{rh} and the reheating temperature T{rh} is dominating. We give two illustrative examples of w{rh} to discuss its impacts on the total expansion, which can be different as much as 10 even for the same reheating temperature, depending on the shape of w{rh}. We also discuss the profile degeneracy of w{rh}, and argue when the degeneracy is lifted.

Gravitational open effective field theory of inflation

We construct a gravitational open extension of the effective field theory of inflation in the Schwinger-Keldysh framework. While physical symmetries allow many open operators in the Schwinger-Keldysh action, most of them overconstrain the equations of motion, yielding inconsistent dynamics. We identify the minimal open operators compatible with propagating scalar and tensor modes and build the gravitational action, recovering dissipative models of inflation.

Charged Higgs Boson Phenomenology in the Dark Z mediated Fermionic Dark Matter Model

We present the phenomenology of the charged Higgs boson $H^\pm$ appearing in a fermionic dark matter model mediated by an additional scalar doublet. In order to couple the dark matter fermion to the scalar doublet, we introduce a U(1)$_X$ gauge symmetry, which is spontaneously broken at electroweak symmetry breaking, resulting in a massive $Z'$ gauge boson. Since $Z'$ is generically light, the model is subject to strong constraints from electroweak precision observables. As a result, the charged Higgs boson mass allowed by current experimental bounds is typically light in this model, 110 GeV $<m_{H^\pm}<$ 170 GeV. Such a light charged Higgs boson will be produced mainly through top-quark decays at the LHC. Additionally, depending on the mass of the additional neutral Higgs boson $h$ and the dark gauge boson $Z'$, the direct production channels $pp \to H^\pm Z'$ and $pp \to H^\pm h$ can become sizable. We investigate the corresponding signal processes at the LHC to assess the discovery potential for $H^\pm$. Current ATLAS and CMS searches for light charged Higgs bosons already impose further constraints on the model. We also discuss the implications of dark matter in relation to the charged Higgs boson phenomenology.

$F$-term Multi-Field Inflation in Supergravity without Stabiliser Superfields

Realising $F$-term slow-roll inflation in supergravity is non-trivial due to the well-known $η$-problem. The common strategy to solve the problem is to impose a shift symmetry on the Kähler potential, but this often leads to a negative potential in the large-field regime. To avoid negative potentials, an additional superfield called the stabiliser is usually added with a desired interaction. An alternative mechanism in supergravity, avoiding the use of a stabiliser superfield, was earlier proposed by two of us in the setup with a single chiral superfield having inflaton and goldstino amongst its field components. In this work, we extend that alternative mechanism to multi-superfield models of inflation, thereby providing a generic framework for embedding a wide class of single- and multi-field inflation models into supergravity. We illustrate our approach by several concrete examples of multi-field inflation and clarify the conditions required to avoid tachyonic instabilities during multi-field evolution. Our proposal significantly broadens the theoretical landscape of $F$-term inflation models in supergravity.

Scalar one-loop tensor power spectrum during single-field inflation

We calculate the scalar-induced one-loop correction to the power spectrum of tensor perturbations produced during single-field slow-roll inflation. We find that the correction is given by the square of the product of the slow-roll parameter and the tree-level scalar power spectrum. We also discuss the implications of the logarithmic contribution.

New shape for cross-bispectra in Chern-Simons gravity

Chern-Simons gravity is known to suffer from graviton ghost production during inflation, which suppresses the parity-violating power spectrum at scales relevant to cosmic microwave background observations. In this work, we show that allowing the initial conditions of inflation to deviate from the standard Bunch-Davies state can enhance parity-violating non-Gaussianity in the scalar-tensor cross-bispectra. Our results reveal a significant additional contribution to the cross-bispectra in the flattened configuration, offering a new avenue to constrain parity-violating gravity.

Enhanced power spectra from multi-field inflation

We investigate the enhancement of the power spectra large enough to produce primordial black holes in models with multiple scalar fields. We present analytic solutions for the perturbations in the case of constant turns without the need for an effective field theory for the first time and clarify the role of the Hubble friction that has been overlooked previously. We derive the criteria for an arbitrary number of fields that can lead to an exponential amplification of the curvature perturbation on subhorizon scales, while leaving the perturbations stable on superhorizon scales. Finally, we apply our results to a three-field generalization of the "ultra-light'' scenario and show how the presence of field-space torsion can yield distinct observables compared to the two-field case.

Cosmic Birefringence by Dark Photon

We study the kinetic mixing between the cosmic microwave background (CMB) photon and the birefringent dark photon. These birefringent dark photon may exist in parity-violating dark sector, for example, through the coupling to axion field. We show that the birefringence of the dark photon propagates to the CMB photon, but the resulting birefringence may not be isotropic over the sky, but will be anisotropic in general. Moreover, our investigation sheds light on the essential role played by kinetic mixing in the generation of two fundamental characteristics of the CMB: circular polarization and spectral distortion.

Non-Gaussianity from primordial black holes

We study the effects of non-Gaussianity from primordial black holes (PBHs). The formation of PBHs is in general a rare event and the number of PBHs fluctuates following the Poisson distribution function, which is independent from the pre-existing inflationary adiabatic fluctuations. Such fluctuations can dominate over the adiabatic mode on small scales. We focus on the non-Gaussianity of matter density fluctuations induced by the Poisson fluctuation of PBHs and discuss the potentially observable consequences such as the skewness, kurtosis and the scale-dependent bias.

Abundance of primordial black holes with local non-Gaussianity in peak theory

We discuss the effect of local type non-Gaussianity on the abundance of primordial black holes (PBH) based on the peak theory. We provide the PBH formation criterion based on the so-called compaction function and use the peak theory statistics associated with the curvature perturbation with the local type non-Gaussianity. Providing a method to estimate the PBH abundance, we demonstrate the effects of non-Gaussianity. It is explicitly shown that the value of non-linear parameter $|f_{\rm NL}| \sim 1$ induces a similar effect to a few factors of difference in the amplitude of the power spectrum.

Light cold dark matter from non-thermal decay

We investigate the mass range and the corresponding free-streaming length scale of dark matter produced non-thermally from decay of heavy objects which can be either dominant or sub-dominant at the moment of decay. We show that the resulting dark matter could be very light well below keV scale with a free-streaming length satisfying the Lyman-α constraints. We demonstrate two explicit examples for such light cold dark matter.

New shape of parity-violating graviton non-Gaussianity

We show that the general vacuum states that respect the de Sitter symmetry, known as the α-vacua, can introduce non-vanishing parity-violating tensor non-Gaussianities. This is due to the mixing by the Bogoliubov transformation of the positive and negative frequency modes of the Bunch-Davies vacuum. We calculate explicitly the bispectra of tensor perturbations and show that the amplitude can be exponentially enhanced for certain choices of the squeezing parameter α and the phase ϕ of the α-vacua. We find a new shape for the parity-violating tensor bispectrum which peaks in the flattened configuration

Second-order energy-momentum tensor of a scalar field

We investigate the second-order effective energy-momentum tensor (2EMT) constructed by the quadratic terms of the linear scalar cosmological perturbations while the universe is dominated by a scalar field. We show that 2EMT is gauge dependent. We then study 2EMT in three (longitudinal, spatially flat, and comoving) gauge conditions in the slow-roll stage of inflation. We find that 2EMT exhibits an effective fluid of w=-1/3 on super-horizon scales in all of those gauge conditions.
