An operadic proof of the BTT Theorem

In this note, we explain an operadic proof of the BTT Theorem stating that the deformation theory of Calabi-Yau varieties is unobstructed. We also provide a short new proof of the non-commutative BTT for Calabi-Yau dg-categories. Finally, we observe that our proof also produces partial results in positive characteristic.

On the l-adic homotopy type of configuration spaces

We give algebraic models for the tame homotopy type of the configuration spaces of certain algebraic varieties of Tate type. Such tame models carry information on the l-adic homotopy type. Our method uses the theory of weights in étale cohomology, and also produces models for more general arrangement complements, both in the tame sense and over the rationals.

Equivariant formality of the little disks operad

The little $n$-disks operad is $SO(n)$ and $O(n)$-equivariantly formal over the rationals. Equivalently, the oriented and unoriented framed little disks operads are rationally formal as $\infty$-operads.

Formality of hypercommutative algebras of Kähler and Calabi-Yau manifolds

Any Batalin-Vilkovisky algebra with a homotopy trivialization of the BV-operator gives rise to a hypercommutative algebra structure at the cochain level which, in general, contains more homotopical information than the hypercommutative algebra introduced by Barannikov and Kontsevich on cohomology. In this paper, we use the purity of mixed Hodge structures to show that the canonical hypercommutative algebra defined on any compact Calabi-Yau manifold is formal. We also study related hypercommutative algebras associated to compact Kähler and Hermitian manifolds.

On the real homotopy type of compact complex surfaces

We show that on a compact complex surface all Massey products of cohomology classes in degree one vanish beyond length three. Dually, the real Malcev completion of the fundamental group is homogeneously presented by quadratic and cubic relations. In the non-Kähler case, we give an explicit presentation, which is determined by the first Betti number of the surface.

Model category structures on truncated multicomplexes for complex geometry

To a bicomplex one can associate two natural filtrations, the column and row filtrations, and then two associated spectral sequences. This can be generalized to $N$-multicomplexes. We present a family of model category structures on the category of $N$-multicomplexes where the weak equivalences are the morphisms inducing a quasi-isomorphism at a fixed page $r$ of the first spectral sequence and at a fixed page $s$ of the second spectral sequence. Such weak equivalences arise naturally in complex geometry. In particular, the model structures presented here establish a basis for studying homotopy types of almost and generalized complex manifolds.

Etale cohomology, purity and formality with torsion coefficients

We use Galois group actions on étale cohomology to prove results of formality for dg-operads and dg-algebras with torsion coefficients. Our theory applies, among other related constructions, to the dg-operad of singular chains on the operad of little disks and to the dg-algebra of singular cochains on the configuration space of points in the complex space. The formality that we obtain is only up to a certain degree, which depends on the cardinality of the field of coefficients.

Homotopy BV-algebras in Hermitian geometry

We show that the de Rham complex of any almost Hermitian manifold carries a natural commutative $BV_\infty$-algebra structure satisfying the degeneration property. In the almost Kähler case, this recovers Koszul's BV-algebra, defined for any Poisson manifold. As a consequence, both the Dolbeault and the de Rham cohomologies of any compact Hermitian manifold are canonically endowed with homotopy hypercommutative algebra structures, also known as formal homotopy Frobenius manifolds. Similar results are developed for (almost) symplectic manifolds with Lagrangian subbundles.

Weight decompositions on algebraic models for mapping spaces and homotopy automorphisms

We obtain restrictions on the rational homotopy types of mapping spaces and of classifying spaces of homotopy automorphisms by means of the theory of positive weight decompositions. The theory applies, in particular, to connected components of holomorphic maps between compact Kähler manifolds as well as homotopy automorphisms of Kähler manifolds.

Hodge-de Rham numbers of almost complex 4-manifolds

We introduce and study Hodge-de Rham numbers for compact almost complex 4-manifolds, generalizing the Hodge numbers of a complex surface. The main properties of these numbers in the case of complex surfaces are extended to this more general setting, and it is shown that all Hodge-de Rham numbers for compact almost complex 4-manifolds are determined by the cohomology, except for one (the irregularity). Finally, these numbers are shown to prohibit the existence of complex structures on certain manifolds, without reference to the classification of surfaces.

Mixed Hodge structures and formality of symmetric monoidal functors

We use mixed Hodge theory to show that the functor of singular chains with rational coefficients is formal as a lax symmetric monoidal functor, when restricted to complex schemes whose weight filtration in cohomology satisfies a certain purity property. This has direct applications to the formality of operads or, more generally, of algebraic structures encoded by a colored operad. We also prove a dual statement, with applications to formality in the context of rational homotopy theory. In the general case of complex schemes with non-pure weight filtration, we relate the singular chains functor to a functor defined via the first term of the weight spectral sequence.

Filtered A-infinity structures in complex geometry

We prove a filtered version of the Homotopy Transfer Theorem which gives an A-infinity algebra structure on any page of the spectral sequence associated to a filtered dg-algebra. We then develop various applications to the study of the geometry and topology of complex manifolds, using the Hodge filtration, as well as to complex algebraic varieties, using mixed Hodge theory

Sheaves of E-infinity algebras and applications to algebraic varieties and singular spaces

We describe the E-infinity algebra structure on the complex of singular cochains of a topological space, in the context of sheaf theory. As a first application, for any algebraic variety we define a weight filtration compatible with its E-infinity structure. This naturally extends the theory of mixed Hodge structures in rational homotopy to p-adic homotopy theory. The spectral sequence associated to the weight filtration gives a new family of multiplicative algebraic invariants of the varieties for any coefficient ring, carrying Steenrod operations. As a second application, we promote Deligne's intersection complex computing intersection cohomology, to a sheaf carrying E-infinity structures. This allows for a natural interpretation of the Steenrod operations defined on the intersection cohomology of any topological pseudomanifold.

Dolbeault cohomology for almost complex manifolds

This paper extends Dolbeault cohomology and its surrounding theory to arbitrary almost complex manifolds. We define a spectral sequence converging to ordinary cohomology, whose first page is the Dolbeault cohomology, and develop a harmonic theory which injects into Dolbeault cohomology. Lie-theoretic analogues of the theory are developed which yield important calculational tools for Lie groups and nilmanifolds. Finally, we study applications to maximally non-integrable manifolds, including nearly Kähler $6$-manifolds, and show Dolbeault cohomology can be used to prohibit the existence of nearly Kähler metrics.

Characterization of quantum entanglement via a hypercube of Segre embeddings

A particularly simple description of separability of quantum states arises naturally in the setting of complex algebraic geometry, via the Segre embedding. This is a map describing how to take products of projective Hilbert spaces. In this paper, we show that for pure states of n particles, the corresponding Segre embedding may be described by means of a directed hypercube of dimension n-1, where all edges are bipartite-type Segre maps. Moreover, we describe the image of the original Segre map via the intersections of images of the n-1 edges whose target is the last vertex of the hypercube. This purely algebraic result is then transferred to physics. For each of the last edges of the Segre hypercube, we introduce an observable which measures geometric separability and is related to the trace of the squared reduced density matrix. As a consequence, the hypercube approach gives a novel viewpoint on measuring entanglement, naturally relating bipartitions with $q$-partitions for q>1. We test our observables against well-known states, showing that these provide well-behaved and fine measures of entanglement.

Almost Hermitian Identities

We study the local commutation relation between the Lefschetz operator and the exterior differential on an almost complex manifold with a compatible metric. The identity that we obtain generalizes the backbone of the local Kähler identities to the setting of almost Hermitian manifolds, allowing for new global results for such manifolds.

Topological and geometric aspects of almost Kähler manifolds via harmonic theory

The well-known Kähler identities naturally extend to the non-integrable setting. This paper deduces several geometric and topological consequences of these extended identities for compact almost Kähler manifolds. Among these are identities of various Laplacians, generalized Hodge and Serre dualities, a generalized hard Lefschetz duality, and a Lefschetz decomposition, all on the space of $d$-harmonic forms of pure bidegree. There is also a generalization of Hodge Index Theorem for compact almost Kähler $4$-manifolds. In particular, these provide topological bounds on the dimension of the space of $d$-harmonic forms of pure bidegree, as well as several new obstructions to the existence of a symplectic form compatible with a given almost complex structure.

Model category structures and spectral sequences

Let k be a commutative ring with unit. We endow the categories of filtered complexes and of bicomplexes of k-modules, with cofibrantly generated model structures, where the class of weak equivalences is given by those morphisms inducing a quasi-isomorphism at a certain fixed stage of the associated spectral sequence. For filtered complexes, we relate the different model structures obtained, when we vary the stage of the spectral sequence, using the functors shift and décalage.
