Algebro-geometric approach to a fermion self-consistent field theory on coset space SU(m+n)/S(U(m) x U(n))

The integrability-condition method is regarded as a mathematical tool to describe the symmetry of collective sub-manifold. We here adopt the particle-hole representation. In the conventional time-dependent (TD) self-consistent field (SCF) theory, we take the one-form linearly composed of the TD SCF Hamiltonian and the infinitesimal generator induced by the collective-variable differential of canonical transformation on a group. Standing on the differential geometrical viewpoint, we introduce a Lagrange-like manner familiar to fluid dynamics to describe collective coordinate systems. We construct a geometric equation, noticing the structure of coset space SU(m+n)/S(U(m) x U(n)). To develop a perturbative method with the use of the collective variables, we aim at constructing a new fermion SCF theory, i.e., renewal of TD Hartree-Fock (TDHF) theory by using the canonicity condition under the existence of invariant subspace in the whole HF space. This is due to a natural consequence of the maximally decoupled theory because there exists an invariant subspace, if the invariance principle of Schredinger equation is realized. The integrability condition of the TDHF equation determining a collective sub-manifold is studied, standing again on the differential geometric viewpoint. A geometric equation works well over a wide range of physics beyond the random phase approximation.

Velocity operator approach to a Fermion system

In this paper, we formulate a velocity operator approach to a three-dimensional (3D) Fermion system. Following Sunakawa, introducing density and velocity operators, we treat 3D quantum fluid dynamics in the system. We get a collective Hamiltonian in terms of collective variables. The lowest order collective Hamiltonian is diagonalized. This diagonalization leads us to a Bogoliubov transformation for Boson-like operators.

A possible quantum fluid-dynamical approach to vortex motion in nuclei

The essential point of Bohr-Mottelson theory is to assume a irrotational flow. As was already suggested by Marumori and Watanabe, the internal rotational motion, i.e., the vortex motion, however, may exist also in nuclei. So, we have a necessity of taking the vortex motion into consideration. In a classical fluid dynamics, there are various ways to treat the internal rotational velocity. The Clebsch representation, v(x) = -\nabla ϕ(x) + λ(x) \nabla ψ(x) (ϕ; velocity potential, λand ψ: Clebsch parameters) is very powerful and has an advantage deriving equations of fluid motion from a Lagransian. Making the best use of the advantage, Kronig-Thellung, Ziman and Ito obtained a Hamiltonian including the internal rotational motion, the vortex motion, through the term λ(x) \nabla ψ(x). Going to quantum fluid dynamics, Ziman and Thellung finally derived a roton spectrum of liquid Helium II postulated by Landau. Is it possible to apply such the manner to a description of the collective vortex motion in nuclei? The description of such a collective motion has never been treated in the Bohr-Mottelson model (BMM) for a long time. In this paper, we will investigate a possibility of describing the vortex motion in nuclei basing on the theories of Ziman and Ito together with Marumori's work.

Spin polarization and color superconductivity in the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model at finite temperature

We investigate the possible existence of spin polarization and color superconductivity in the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with a tensor-type interaction at finite density and temperature. The thermodynamic potential is calculated by the functional integral method. Numerical results indicate that at low temperature and quark chemical potential the chiral condensed phase exists, and at intermediate chemical potential the color superconducting phase appears. In addition, depending on the magnitude of the tensor coupling, at large chemical potential and low temperature, a color superconducting phase and a spin polarized phase may coexist while at intermediate temperatures only the spin polarized phase occurs.

Spin polarization in high density quark matter under a strong external magnetic field

In high density quark matter under a strong external magnetic field, possible phases are investigated by using the two-flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with tensor-type four-point interaction between quarks, as well as the axial-vector-type four-point interaction. In the tensor-type interaction under the strong external magnetic field, it is shown that a quark spin polarized phase is realized in all regions of the quark chemical potential under consideration within the lowest Landau level approximation. In the axial-vector-type interaction, it is also shown that the quark spin polarized phase appears in the wide range of the quark chemical potential. In both the interactions, the quark mass in zero and small chemical potential regions increases which indicates that the chiral symmetry breaking is enhanced, namely the magnetic catalysis occurs.

Velocity operator approach to quantum fluid dynamics in a three-dimensional neutron-proton system

In the preceeding paper, introducing isospin-dependent density operators and defining exact momenta (collective variables), we could get an exact canonically momenta approach to a one-dimensional (1D) neutron-proton (NP) system. In this paper, we attempt at a velocity operator approach to a 3D NP system. Following Sunakawa, after introducing momentum density operators, we define velocity operators, denoting classical fluid velocities. We derive a collective Hamiltonian in terms of the collective variables.

A possible framework of the Lipkin model obeying the su(n)-algebra in arbitrary fermion number. I --- The su(2)-algebras extended from the conventional fermion-pair and determination of the minimum weight states ---

The minimum weight states of the Lipkin model consisting of n single-particle levels and obeying the su(n)-algebra are investigated systematically. The basic idea is to use the su(2)-algebra which is independent of the su(n)-algebra. This idea has been already presented by the present authors in the case of the conventional Lipkin model consisting of two single-particle levels and obeying the su(2)-algebra. If following this idea, the minimum weight states are determined for any fermion number occupying appropriately n single-particle levels. Naturally, the conventional minimum weight state is included: all fermions occupy energetically the lowest single-particle level in the absence of interaction. The cases n=2, 3, 4 and 5 are discussed in rather detail.

A possible framework of the Lipkin model obeying the su(n)-algebra in arbitrary fermion number. II --- Two subalgebras in the su(n)-Lipkin model and an approach to the construction of linearly independent basis ---

Standing on the results for the minimum weight states obtained in the previous paper (I), an idea how to construct the linearly independent basis is proposed for the su(n)-Lipkin model. This idea starts in setting up m independent su(2)-subalgebras in the cases with n=2m and n=2m+1 (m=2,3,4,...). The original representation is re-formed in terms of the spherical tensors for the su(n)-generators built under the su(2)-subalgebras. Through this re-formation, the su(m)-subalgebra can be found. For constructing the linearly independent basis, not only the su(2)-algebras but also the su(m)-subalgebra play a central role. Some concrete results in the cases with n=2, 3, 4 and 5 are presented.

Modified Non-Euclidian Transformation on the SO(2N+2)/U(N+1) Grassmannian and SO(2N+1) Random Phase Approximation for Unified Description of Bose and Fermi Type Collective Excitations

In a slight different way from the previous one, we propose a modified non-Euclidian transformation on the SO(2N+2)/U(N+1) Grassmannian which give the projected SO(2N+1) Tamm-Dancoff equation. We derive a classical time dependent (TD) SO(2N+1) Lagrangian which, through the Euler-Lagrange equation of motion for SO(2N+2)/U(N+1) coset variables, brings another form of the previous extended-TD Hartree-Bogoliubov (HB) equation. The SO(2N+1) random phase approximation (RPA) is derived using Dyson representation for paired and unpaired operators. In the SO(2N) HB case, one boson and two boson excited states are realized. We, however, stress non existence of a higher RPA vacuum. An integrable system is given by a geometrical concept of zero-curvature, i.e., integrability condition of connection on the corresponding Lie group. From the group theoretical viewpoint, we show the existence of a symplectic two-form omega.

QMC approach based on the Bogoliubov independent quark model of the nucleon

The quark-meson coupling model due to Guichon is formulated on the basis of the independent quark model of the nucleon proposed by Bogoliubov and is applied to the phenomenological descriptions of symmetric and asymmetric nuclear matter. For symmetric matter, the model predicts, at saturation density, the incompressibility $K=335.17$ MeV, the quark effective mass $m_q^*=238.5$ MeV, and the effective nucleon mass $M^*= 0.76 M,$ where $M$ is the nucleon mass in vacuum. Neutron star massesabove two solar masses are obtained.

Spectral analysis of a selected non self-adjoint Hamiltonian in an infinite dimensional Hilbert space

The so-called equation of motion method is useful to obtain the explicit form of the eigenvectors and eigenvalues of certain non self-adjoint bosonic Hamiltonians with real eigenvalues. These operators can be diagonalized when they are expressed in terms of pseudo-bosons, which do not behave as ordinary bosons under the adjoint transformation, but obey the Weil-Heisenberg commutation relations.

Exact canonically conjugate momenta approach to a one-dimensional neutron-proton system, I

Introducing collective variables, a collective description of nuclear surface oscillations has been developed with the first quantized language, contrary to the second quantized one in Sunakawa's approach for a Bose system. It overcomes difficulties remaining in the traditional theories of nuclear collective motions: Collective momenta are not exact canonically conjugate to collective coordinates and are not independent. On the contrary to such a description, Tomonaga first gave the basic idea to approach elementary excitations in a one-dimensional Fermi system. The Sunakawa's approach for a Fermi system is also expected to work well for such a problem. In this paper, on the $isospin$ space, we define a density operator and further following Tomonaga, introduce a collective momentum. We propose an $exact$ canonically momenta approach to a one-dimensional neutron-proton (N-P) system under the use of the Grassmann variables.

Description of Collective Motion in Two-Dimensional Nuclei; Tomonaga's Method Revisited

Four decades ago, Tomonaga proposed the elementary theory of quantum mechanical collective motion of two-dimensional nuclei of N nucleons. The theory is based essentially on the neglect of 1/sqrtN against unity. Very recently we have given exact canonically conjugate momenta to quadrupole-type collective coordinates under some subsidiary conditions and have derived nuclear quadrupole-type collective Hamiltonian. Even in the case of simple two-dimensional nuclei, we have a subsidiary condition to obtain exact canonical variables. Particularly the structure of the collective subspace satisfying the subsidiary condition is studied in detail. This subsidiary condition is important to investigate what is a structure of the collective subspace.

SO(2N)/U(N) Riccati-Hartree-Bogoliubov Equation Based on the SO(2N) Lie Algebra of the Fermion Operators

In this paper we present the induced representation of SO(2N) canonical transformation group and introduce SO(2N)/U(N) coset variables. We give a derivation of the time dependent Hartree-Bogoliubov (TDHB) equation on the Kaehler coset space G/H=SO(2N)/U(N) from the Euler-Lagrange equation of motion for the coset variables. The TDHB wave function represents the TD behavior of Bose condensate of fermion pairs. It is a good approximation for the ground state of the fermion system with a pairing interaction, producing the spontaneous Bose condensation. To describe the classical motion on the coset manifold, we start from the local equation of motion. This equation becomes a Riccati-type equation. After giving a simple two-level model and a solution for a coset variable, we can get successfully a general solution of TDRHB equation for the coset variables. We obtain the Harish-Chandra decomposition for the SO(2N) matrix based on the nonlinear Moebius transformation together with the geodesic flow on the manifold.

Beyond the Schwinger boson representation of the su(2)-algebra. II -- Some theoretical features of new boson representation and connections to the other boson representations

Concerning the new boson representation presented in Part I, it is proved that this representation obeys the su(2)-algebra in a certain subspace in the whole boson space constructed by the Schwinger boson representation of the su(1,1)-algebra. Some other problems related to this representation are discussed.

Beyond the Schwinger boson representation of the su(2)-algebra. I -- New boson representation based on the su(1,1)-algebra and its related problems with application

With the use of two kinds of boson operators, a new boson representation of the su(2)-algebra is proposed. The basic idea comes from the pseudo su(1,1)-algebra recently given by the present authors. It forms a striking contrast to the Schwinger boson representation of the su(2)-algebra which is also based on two kinds of bosons. This representation may be suitable for describing time-dependence of the system interacting with the external environment in the framework of the thermo field dynamics formalism, i.e., the phase space doubling. Further, several deformations related to the su(2)-algebra in this boson representation are discussed. On the basis of these deformed algebra, various types of time-evolution of a simple boson system are investigated.

Thermal resonating Hartree-Bogoliubov theory based on the projection method

We propose a rigorous thermal resonating mean-field theory (Res-MFT). A state is approximated by superposition of multiple MF wavefunctions (WFs) composed of non-orthogonal Hartree-Bogoliubov (HB) WFs. We adopt a Res-HB subspace spanned by Res-HB ground and excited states. A partition function (PF) in a SO(2N) coherent state representation |g> (N:Number of single-particle states) is expressed as Tr(e^{-βH})=2^{N-1} \int dg (β=1/k_BT). Introducing a projection operator P to the Res-HB subspace, the PF in the Res-HB subspace is given as Tr(Pe^{-βH}), which is calculated within the Res-HB subspace by using the Laplace transform of e^{-βH} and the projection method. The variation of the Res-HB free energy is made, which leads to a thermal HB density matrix W_{Res}^{thermal} expressed in terms of a thermal Res-FB operator F_{Res}^{thermal} as W_{Res}^{thermal}={1_{2N}+exp(βF_{Res}^{thermal})}^{-1}. A calculation of the PF by an infinite matrix continued fraction is cumbersome and a procedure of tractable optimization is too complicated. Instead, we seek for another possible and more practical way of computing the PF and the Res-HB free energy within the Res-MFT.

The predicted nucleon mass radius is $r=0.93$ fm.
