The $Z_c$ structures in a coupled-channels model

The $Z_{c}(3900)^\pm/Z_c(3885)^\pm$ and $Z_{c}(4020)^\pm$ are two charmonium-like structures discovered in the $πJ/ψ$ and $D^\ast\bar D^{(\ast)}+h.c.$ invariant mass spectra. Their nature is puzzling due to their charge, which forces its minimal quark content to be $c\bar c u\bar d$ ($c\bar c d\bar u$). Thus, it is necessary to explore four-quark systems in order to understand their inner structure. Additionally, their strong coupling to channels such as $πJ/ψ$ and the closeness of their mass to $D^\ast\bar D^{(\ast)}$-thresholds stimulates both a molecular interpretation or a coupled-channels threshold effect. In this work we perform a coupled-channels calculation of the $I^G(J^{PC})=1^+(1^{+-})$ sector including $D^{(\ast)}\bar D^{\ast}+h.c.$, $πJ/ψ$ and $ρη_c$ channels in the framework of a constituent quark model which satisfactorily describes a wide range of properties of (non-)conventional hadrons containing heavy quarks. The meson-meson interactions are dominated by the non-diagonal $πJ/ψ-D^\ast\bar D^{(\ast)}$ and $ρη_c-D^\ast\bar D^{(\ast)}$ couplings which indicates that the $Z_{c}(3900)^\pm/Z_c(3885)^\pm$ and $Z_{c}(4020)^\pm$ are unusual structures. The study of the analytic structure of the $S$-matrix allows us to conclude that the point-wise behavior of the line shapes in the $πJ/ψ$ and $D\bar D^*$ invariant mass distributions is due to the presence of two virtual states that produce the $Z_c$ peaks.

Nucleon Parton Distribution Amplitude: A scalar diquark picture

We report progress on the development of Perturbative Integral Representation Ansätze to compute the nucleon Faddeev Wave function, using an explicit quark-diquark picture. Our formalism is able to handle non-pointlike diquark and to mimic the strong, dynamical correlations observed when solving the Faddeev Equation. We then project the wave function in order to compute the leading-twist Parton Distribution Amplitude.

Nucleon-to-Roper electromagnetic transition form factors at large-$Q^2$

High-precision nucleon-resonance electroproduction data on a large kinematic domain of energy and momentum transfer have proven crucial in revealing novel features of strong interactions within the Standard Model and unfolding structural details of baryon excited states. Thus, in anticipation of new data reaching to unprecedented photon virtuality, we employ a quark-diquark approximation to the three valence-quark bound-state problem to compute $γ^\ast p \to R^+$ and $γ^\ast n \to R^0$ transition form factors on $Q^2/m_N^2 \in [0,12]$, where $m_N$ is the nucleon mass. Having simultaneously analysed both charged and neutral channels, we also provide a quark-flavour separation of the transition form factors. The results should be useful in planning new-generation experiments.

P-wave heavy quarkonium spectrum with next-to-next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy

We compute the heavy quarkonium mass of $l\not= 0$ (angular momentum) states, with otherwise arbitrary quantum numbers, with next-next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic (N$^3$LL) accuracy. This constitutes the first observable in heavy quarkonium for which two orders of the weak-coupling expansion sensitive to the ultrasoft scale are known and the resummation of ultrasoft logarithms is made. We also obtain, for the first time, resummed N$^3$LL expressions for the different fine and hyperfine energy splittings of these states, which are not sensitive to the ultrasoft scale but still require resummation of (hard) logarithms. We do this analysis for the equal and non-equal mass cases. We also study an alternative computational scheme that treats the static potential exactly. We then perform a comprehensive phenomenological analysis: we apply these results to the $n=2$, $l=1$ bottomonium, $B_c$ and charmonium systems and study their convergence.

The charm/bottom quark mass from heavy quarkonium at N$^3$LO

We determine the charm and bottom quark masses using the N$^3$LO perturbative expression of the ground state (pseudoscalar) energy of the bottomonium, charmonium and $B_c$ systems: the $η_b$, $η_c$ and $B_c$ masses. We work in the renormalon subtracted scheme, which allows us to control the divergence of the perturbation series due to the pole mass renormalon. Our result for the $\overline{\rm MS}$ masses reads ${\overline m}_{c}({\overline m}_{c})=1223(33)$ MeV and ${\overline m}_{b}({\overline m}_{b})=4186(37)$ MeV. We also extract a value of $α_s$ from a renormalon-free combination of the $η_b$, $η_c$ and $B_c$ masses: $α_s(M_z)=0.1195(53)$. We explore the applicability of the weak coupling approximation to bottomonium $n=2$ states. Finally, we consider an alternative computational scheme that treats the static potential exactly and study its convergence properties.

Hidden-Bottom Pentaquarks

The LHCb Collaboration has recently reported strong evidences of the existence of pentaquark states in the hidden-charm baryon sector, the so-called $P_c(4380)^+$ and $P_c(4450)^+$ signals. Five-quark bound states in the hidden-charm sector were explored by us using, for the quark-quark interaction, a chiral quark model which successfully explains meson and baryon phenomenology, from the light to the heavy quark sector. We extend herein such study but to the hidden-bottom pentaquark sector, analyzing possible bound-states with spin-parity quantum numbers $J^P=\frac12^\pm$, $\frac32^\pm$ and $\frac52^\pm$, and in the $\frac12$ and $\frac32$ isospin sectors. We do not find positive parity hidden-bottom pentaquark states; however, several candidates with negative parity are found with dominant baryon-meson structures $Σ_b^{(\ast)}\bar{B}^{(\ast)}$. The calculated distances among any pair of quarks within the bound-state reflect that molecular-type bound-states are favored when only color-singlet configurations are considered in the coupled-channels calculation whereas compact pentaquarks, which are also deeply bound, can be found when hidden-color configurations are added. Finally, our findings resemble the ones found in the hidden-charm sector but, as expected, we find in the hidden-bottom sector larger binding energies and bigger contributions of the hidden-color configurations.

The S- and P-wave low-lying baryons in the chiral quark model

The $1S$, $2S$, $1P$ and $2P$ states of light baryons are investigated within the chiral quark model, paying particular attention to the well-known order reverse problem of $1P$ and $2S$ states. Besides a nonperturbative linear-screened confining interaction and a perturbative one-gluon exchange between quarks, we incorporate the Goldstone-boson exchanges taking into account not only the full octet of pseudoscalar mesons but also the scalar one. The scalar meson exchange potential simulates the higher order multi-pion exchange terms that appear in the chiral Lagrangian and its omission has been already admitted as a deficiency of the original model in describing, for instance, the $ρ-ω$ splitting. The numerical approach to the three body bound state problem is the so-called Gaußian expansion method, which is able to get a precision as good as Faddeev calculations. With a set of parameters fixed to different hadron and hadron-hadron observables, we find that the chiral potential could play an important role towards the issue on the mass order reverse problem. We extend our calculation to the $qqQ$ and $qQQ$ sectors (with $q$ representing a light $u$-, $d$-, or $s$-quark and $Q$ denoting the charm quark or the bottom one) in which many new states have been recently observed. Some tentative assignments are done attending to the agreement between theoretical and experimental masses; however, we admit that other sources of information are needed in order to make strong claims about the nature of these states.

Valence-quark structure N* resonances from DSEs

We present a unified Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD)-based description of elastic and transition electromagnetic form factors involving the nucleon and its resonances. We compare predictions made using a framework built upon a Faddeev equation kernel and interaction vertices that possess QCD-like momentum dependence with results obtained using a confining, symmetry-preserving treatment of a vector$\,\otimes\,$vector contact-interaction in a widely-used leading-order (rainbow-ladder) truncation of QCD's Dyson-Schwinger equations. This comparison explains that the contact-interaction framework produces hard form factors, curtails some quark orbital angular momentum correlations within a baryon, and suppresses two-loop diagrams in the elastic and transition electromagnetic currents. Such defects are rectified in our QCD-based approach and, by contrasting the results obtained for the same observables in both theoretical schemes, shows those objects which are most sensitive to the momentum dependence of elementary quantities in QCD.

Nucleon viewed as a Borromean Bound-State

We explain how the emergent phenomenon of dynamical chiral symmetry breaking ensures that Poincaré covariant analyses of the three valence-quark scattering problem in continuum quantum field theory yield a picture of the nucleon as a Borromean bound-state, in which binding arises primarily through the sum of two separate contributions. One involves aspects of the non-Abelian character of Quantum Chromodynamics that are expressed in the strong running coupling and generate tight, dynamical color-antitriplet quark-quark correlations in the scalar-isoscalar and pseudovector-isotriplet channels. This attraction is magnified by quark exchange associated with diquark breakup and reformation, which is required in order to ensure that each valence-quark participates in all diquark correlations to the complete extent allowed by its quantum numbers. Combining these effects, we arrive at a properly antisymmetrised Faddeev wave function for the nucleon and calculate, e.g. the flavor-separated versions of the Dirac and Pauli form factors and the proton's leading-twist parton distribution amplitude. We conclude that available data and planned experiments are capable of validating the proposed picture.

Light-meson masses in an unquenched quark model

We perform a coupled-channels calculation of the masses of light mesons with the quantum numbers $IJ^{P=-}$, $(I,J)=0,1$, by including $q\bar{q}$ and $(q\bar{q})^2$ components in a nonrelativistic chiral quark model. The coupling between two- and four-quark configurations is realized through a $^3P_0$ quark-pair creation model. With the usual form of this operator, the mass shifts are large and negative, an outcome which raises serious issues of validity for the quenched quark model. Herein, therefore, we introduce some improvements of the $^3P_0$ operator in order to reduce the size of the mass shifts. By introducing two simple factors, physically well motivated, the coupling between $q\bar{q}$ and $(q\bar{q})^2$ components is weakened, producing mass shifts that are around 10-20% of hadron bare masses.

The nature of the $X(3915)/X(3930)$ resonances from a coupled-channels approach

The positive parity $χ_{cJ}(2P)$ charmonium states are expected to lie around the 3.9 GeV/$c^2$ energy region, according to the predictions of quark models. However, a plethora of states with difficult assignment and unconventional properties have been discovered over the years, i.e., the $X(3872)$, $X(3940)$, $Y(3940)$, $X(3915)$, $X(3860)$ and the $X(3930)$ resonances, which complicates the description of this intriguing region. In this work we analyze the $0^{++}$ and $2^{++}$ sectors, employing a coupled-channels formalism successfully applied to the $1^{++}$ sector, where the $X(3872)$ was described as a $D\bar D^\ast+h.c.$ molecule with a sizable $c\bar c$ $(2^3P_1)$ component. This coupled-channels formalism is based on a widely-used Constituent Quark Model, which describes the quark-quark interactions, and the $^3P_0$ quark pair creation mechanism, used to couple the two and four quark sectors. The recent controversy about the quantum numbers of the $X(3915)$ state, the properties of the $X(3930)$ one and the nature of the new $X(3860)$ resonance are analyzed in a unified theoretical framework, being all the parameters completely constrained from previous calculations in the low-lying heavy quarkonium phenomenology.

Parton distribution amplitudes: revealing diquarks in the proton and Roper resonance

We present the first quantum field theory calculation of the pointwise behaviour of the leading-twist parton distribution amplitudes (PDAs) of the proton and its lightest radial excitation. The proton's PDA is a broad, concave function, whose maximum is shifted relative to the peak in QCD's conformal limit expression for this PDA; an effect which signals the presence of both scalar and pseudovector diquark correlations in the nucleon, with the scalar generating around 60% of the proton's normalisation. The radial-excitation is constituted similarly, and the pointwise form of its PDA, which is negative on a material domain, is the result of marked interference between the contributions from both types of diquark; particularly, the locus of zeros that highlights its character as a radial excitation. These features originate with the emergent phenomenon of dynamical chiral-symmetry breaking in the Standard Model.

Threshold effects in hadron spectrum: a new spectroscopy?

The exploration of energies above the open-flavor threshold in the meson spectra has led to the appearance of unexpected states difficult to accommodate in the naive picture of a bound state of a quark and an antiquark. Many of such states are located close to meson-meson thresholds, which suggests that molecular structures may be a relevant component in the total wave function of such resonances. In this work, the state of meson-meson molecules calculations is reviewed, using a non-relativistic constituent quark model that has been applied to a wide range of hadronic observables, and therefore all model parameters are completely constrained. The model has been able to reproduce, among others, the properties of the X(3872), described as a mixture of $c\bar c$ and $D\bar D^\ast$ states, or the spectrum of the P-wave charm-strange mesons, which are well reproduced only if $DK$ and $D^\ast K$ structures are taken into account. We show that such constituent quark model, which is able to describe the ordinary heavy meson spectra, is also capable of providing a good description of many new states recently reported.

Structure of the nucleon's low-lying excitations

A continuum approach to the three valence-quark bound-state problem in quantum field theory is used to perform a comparative study of the four lightest $(I=1/2,J^P = 1/2^\pm)$ baryon isospin-doublets in order to elucidate their structural similarities and differences. Such analyses predict the presence of nonpointlike, electromagnetically-active quark-quark (diquark) correlations within all baryons; and in these doublets, isoscalar-scalar, isovector-pseudovector, isoscalar-pseudoscalar, and vector diquarks can all play a role. In the two lightest $(1/2,1/2^+)$ doublets, however, scalar and pseudovector diquarks are overwhelmingly dominant. The associated rest-frame wave functions are largely $S$-wave in nature; and the first excited state in this $1/2^+$ channel has the appearance of a radial excitation of the ground state. The two lightest $(1/2,1/2^-)$ doublets fit a different picture: accurate estimates of their masses are obtained by retaining only pseudovector diquarks; in their rest frames, the amplitudes describing their dressed-quark cores contain roughly equal fractions of even- and odd-parity diquarks; and the associated wave functions are predominantly $P$-wave in nature, but possess measurable $S$-wave components. Moreover, the first excited state in each negative-parity channel has little of the appearance of a radial excitation. In quantum field theory, all differences between positive- and negative-parity channels must owe to chiral symmetry breaking, which is overwhelmingly dynamical in the light-quark sector. Consequently, experiments that can validate the contrasts drawn herein between the structure of the four lightest $(1/2,1/2^\pm)$ doublets will prove valuable in testing links between emergent mass generation and observable phenomena and, plausibly, thereby revealing dynamical features of confinement.

Charmonium resonances in the 3.9 GeV/$c^2$ energy region and the $X(3915)/X(3930)$ puzzle

An interesting controversy has emerged challenging the widely accepted nature of the $X(3915)$ and the $X(3930)$ resonances, which had initially been assigned to the $χ_{c0}(2P)$ and $χ_{c2}(2P)$ $c\bar c$ states, respectively. To unveil their inner structure, the properties of the $J^{PC}\!\!=\!0^{++}$ and $J^{PC}\!\!=\!2^{++}$ charmonium states in the energy region of these resonances are analyzed in the framework of a constituent quark model. Together with the bare $q\bar q$ states, threshold effects due to the opening of nearby meson-meson channels are included in a coupled-channels scheme calculation. We find that the structure of both states is dominantly molecular with a probability of bare $q\bar q$ states lower than $45\%$. Our results favor the hypothesis that $X(3915)$ and $X(3930)$ resonances arise as different decay mechanisms of the same $J^{PC}\!\!=\!2^{++}$ state. Moreover we found an explanation for the recently discovered $M=3860$ MeV$/c^2$ as a $J^{PC}\!\!=\!0^{++}$ $2P$ state and rediscovery the lost $Y(3940)$ as an additional state in the $J^{PC}\!\!=\!0^{++}$ family.

Determination of electric dipole transitions in heavy quarkonia using potential non-relativistic QCD

The electric dipole transitions $χ_{bJ}(1P)\to γΥ(1S)$ with $J=0,1,2$ and $h_{b}(1P)\to γη_{b}(1S)$ are computed using the weak-coupling version of a low-energy effective field theory named potential non-relativistic QCD (pNRQCD). In order to improve convergence and thus give firm predictions for the studied reactions, the full static potential is incorporated into the leading order Hamiltonian; moreover, we must handle properly renormalon effects and re-summation of large logarithms. The precision we reach is $k_γ^{3}/(mv)^{2} \times \mathcal{O}(v^{2})$, where $k_γ$ is the photon energy, $m$ is the mass of the heavy quark and $v$ its velocity. Our analysis separates those relativistic contributions that account for the electromagnetic interaction terms in the pNRQCD Lagrangian which are $v^{2}$ suppressed and those that account for wave function corrections of relative order $v^{2}$. Among the last ones, corrections from $1/m$ and $1/m^2$ potentials are computed, but not those coming from higher Fock states since they demand non-perturbative input and are $Λ_{\text{QCD}}^{2}/(mv)^{2}$ or $Λ_{\text{QCD}}^{3}/(m^{3}v^{4})$ suppressed, at least, in the strict weak coupling regime. These proceedings are based on the forthcoming publication \cite{steinbeisser}

Parity partners in the baryon resonance spectrum

We describe a calculation of the spectrum of flavour-SU(3) octet and decuplet baryons, their parity partners, and the radial excitations of these systems, made using a symmetry-preserving treatment of a vector-vector contact interaction as the foundation for the relevant few-body equations. Dynamical chiral symmetry breaking generates nonpointlike diquarks within these baryons and hence, using the contact interaction, flavour-antitriplet scalar, pseudoscalar and vector, and flavour-sextet axial-vector quark-quark correlations can all play an active role. The model yields reasonable masses for all systems studied, and Faddeev amplitudes for ground states and associated parity partners that sketch a realistic picture of their internal structure: ground-state, even parity baryons are constituted, almost exclusively, from like-parity diquark correlations; but orbital angular momentum plays an important role in the rest-frame wave functions of odd-parity baryons, whose Faddeev amplitudes are dominated by odd-parity diquarks.

pNRQCD determination of E1 radiative transitions

This contribution contains the first numerical computation of the complete set of relativistic corrections of relative order $v^{2}$ for electric dipole (E1) transitions in heavy quarkonium; in particular, for the processes $χ_{bJ}(1P) \to Υ(1S) + γ$ with $J=0,\,1,\,2$. We assume that the momentum transfer of the heavy mesons involved in the reactions lies in the weak-coupling regime of the low-energy effective field theory potential non-relativistic QCD (pNRQCD) and thus a full perturbative calculation can be performed.
