Capillary quermassintegral inequalities in the unit ball

This paper is about hypersurfaces with boundary lying in the Euclidean unit ball, which meet the unit sphere at a fixed angle $\theta\in(0,\frac{\pi}{2}]$. Such hypersurfaces are called $\theta$-capillary hypersurfaces and for those we introduce a new notion of convexity, which we call $\theta$-horocap-convexity. For such hypersurfaces, we prove the convergence of a curvature flow of Guan/Li type with capillary boundary. Remarkably, we prove this result for a class of curvature functions which include all quotients of symmetric polynomials and, as a consequence, we obtain the full set of quermassintegral inequalities in the $\theta$-horocap-convex case. In the strictly horocap-convex setting, we employ the flow to prove the geometric inequalities, while for the horocap-convex case and the characterization of the equality case, we develop new arguments which are interesting in their own right.

Foliation of null cones by surfaces of constant spacetime mean curvature near MOTS

Marginally Outer Trapped Surfaces (MOTS) in spacetimes are well-known to indicate the existence of black holes. Using flow techniques, we prove that a neighbourhood of a stable MOTS in a null cone may be foliated by hypersurfaces of constant spacetime mean curvature. We also provide methods to construct prescribed spacetime mean curvature surfaces within null cones.

The quermassintegral inequalities for horo-convex domains in the sphere

We study a new notion of convexity for subsets of the unit sphere, which closely resembles the horo-convexity for subsets of the hyperbolic space. We call this notion, accordingly, horo-convexity. For horo-convex hypersurfaces of the unit sphere, we prove the smooth convergence of the classical Guan/Li flow of inverse type and use this result to prove the full set of quermassintegral inequalities for horo-convex hypersurfaces of the unit sphere.

Two properties of optimisers for the reverse isoperimetric problem

The reverse isoperimetric problem asks for existence and properties of bounded convex sets in a Riemannian manifold which maximise the perimeter under all those sets of fixed volume which roll freely in a ball of some given radius. If the boundary of the set is of class $C^{2}$, this amounts to a positive lower bound on the principal curvatures and in this class we prove that there are no $C^{2}$-maximisers of perimeter with prescribed volume. In addition, we prove that a given possibly non-$C^{2}$ maximiser has its smallest principal curvature constant in regions where it is of class $C^{2}$. We prove this result in the Euclidean, spherical and hyperbolic space.

Fractional Dirichlet problems with an overdetermined nonlocal Neumann condition

We investigate symmetry and quantitative approximate symmetry for an overdetermined problem related to the fractional torsion equation in a regular open, bounded set $\Omega \subseteq \mathbb{R}^n$. Specifically, we show that if $\overline{\Omega}$ has positive reach and the nonlocal normal derivative introduced in (Dipierro, Ros-Oton, Valdinoci, Rev. Mat. Iberoam. 33 (2017), no. 2, 377-416) is constant on an external surface parallel and sufficiently close to $\partial \Omega$, then $\Omega$ must be a ball. Remarkably, this conclusion remains valid under the sole assumption that $\Omega$ is convex. Moreover, we analyze the quantitative stability of this result under two distinct sets of assumptions on $\Omega$. Finally, we extend our analysis to a broader class of overdetermined Dirichlet problems involving the fractional Laplacian.

Capillary Christoffel-Minkowski problem

The result of Guan and Ma (Invent. Math. 151 (2003)) states that if $\phi^{-1/k} : \mathbb{S}^n \to (0,\infty)$ is spherically convex, then $\phi$ arises as the $\sigma_k$ curvature (the $k$-th elementary symmetric function of the principal radii of curvature) of a strictly convex hypersurface. In this paper, we establish an analogous result in the capillary setting in the half-space for $\theta\in(0,\pi/2)$: if $\phi^{-1/k} : \mathcal{C}_{\theta} \to (0,\infty)$ is a capillary function and spherically convex, then $\phi$ is the $\sigma_k$ curvature of a strictly convex capillary hypersurface.

Stability of the Wulff shape with respect to anisotropic curvature functionals

For a function $f$ which foliates a one-sided neighbourhood of a closed hypersurface $M$, we give an estimate of the distance of $M$ to a Wulff shape in terms of the $L^{p}$-norm of the traceless $F$-Hessian of $f$, where $F$ is the support function of the Wulff shape. This theorem is applied to prove quantitative stability results for the anisotropic Heintze-Karcher inequality, the anisotropic Alexandrov problem, as well as for the anisotropic overdetermined boundary value problem of Serrin-type.

Stability of the quermassintegral inequalities in hyperbolic space

For the quermassintegral inequalities of horospherically convex hypersurfaces in the $(n+1)$-dimensional hyperbolic space, where $n\geq 2$, we prove a stability estimate relating the Hausdorff distance to a geodesic sphere by the deficit in the quermassintegral inequality. The exponent of the deficit is explicitly given and does not depend on the dimension. The estimate is valid in the class of domains with upper and lower bound on the inradius and an upper bound on a curvature quotient. This is achieved by some new initial value independent curvature estimates for locally constrained flows of inverse type.

A fractional Willmore-type energy functional -- subcritical observations

We investigate surfaces with bounded L^p-norm of the fractional mean curvature, a quantity we shall refer to as fractional Willmore-type functional. In the subcritical case and under convexity assumptions we show how this Willmore-functional controls local parametrization, and conclude as consequences lower Ahlfors-regularity, a weak Michael-Simon type inequality, and an application to stability.

A capillary problem for spacelike mean curvature flow in a cone of Minkowski space

Consider a convex cone in three-dimensional Minkowski space which either contains the lightcone or is contained in it. This work considers mean curvature flow of a proper spacelike strictly mean convex disc in the cone which is graphical with respect to its rays. Its boundary is required to have constant intersection angle with the boundary of the cone. We prove that the corresponding parabolic boundary value problem for the graph admits a solution for all time which rescales to a self-similarly expanding solution.

The quermassintegral preserving mean curvature flow in the sphere

We introduce a mean curvature flow with global term of convex hypersurfaces in the sphere, for which the global term can be chosen to keep any quermassintegral fixed. Then, starting from a strictly convex initial hypersurface, we prove that the flow exists for all times and converges smoothly to a geodesic sphere. This provides a workaround to an issue present in the volume preserving mean curvature flow in the sphere introduced by Huisken in 1987. We also classify solutions for some constant curvature type equations in space forms, as well as solitons in the sphere and in the upper branch of the De Sitter space.

Stability for Serrin's problem and Alexandroff's theorem in warped product manifolds

We prove quantitative versions for several results from geometric partial differential equations. Firstly, we obtain a double stability theorem for Serrin's overdetermined problem in spaceforms. Secondly, we prove stability theorems for Brendle's Heintze-Karcher inequality respectively constant mean curvature classification in a class of warped product spaces. The key tool is the first author's recent development of stability for level sets of a function under smallness of the traceless Hessian thereof.

Mean curvature flow in null hypersurfaces and the detection of MOTS

We study the mean curvature flow in 3-dimensional null hypersurfaces. In a spacetime a hypersurface is called null, if its induced metric is degenerate. The speed of the mean curvature flow of spacelike surfaces in a null hypersurface is the projection of the codimension-two mean curvature vector onto the null hypersurface. We impose fairly mild conditions on the null hypersurface. Then for an outer un-trapped initial surface, a condition which resembles the mean-convexity of a surface in Euclidean space, we prove that the mean curvature flow exists for all times and converges smoothly to a marginally outer trapped surface (MOTS). As an application we obtain the existence of a global foliation of the past of an outermost MOTS, provided the null hypersurface admits an un-trapped foliation asymptotically.

Stability from rigidity via umbilicity

We consider a range of geometric stability problems for hypersurfaces of spaceforms. One of the key results is an estimate relating the distance to a geodesic sphere of an embedded hypersurface with integral norms of the traceless Hessian operator of a level set function for the open set bounded by the hypersurface. As application, we give a unified treatment of many old and new stability problems arising in geometry and analysis. Those problems ask for spherical closeness of a hypersurface, given a geometric constraint. Examples include stability in Alexandroff's soap bubble theorem in space forms, Serrin's overdetermined problem, a Steklov problem involving the bi-Laplace operator and non-convex Alexandroff-Fenchel inequalities.

A fully-nonlinear flow and quermassintegral inequalities in the sphere

This expository paper presents the current knowledge of particular fully nonlinear curvature flows with local forcing term, so-called locally constrained curvature flows. We focus on the spherical ambient space. The flows are designed to preserve a quermassintegral and to de-/increase the other quermassintegrals. The convergence of this flow to a round sphere would settle the full set of quermassintegral inequalities for convex domains of the sphere, but a full proof is still missing. Here we collect what is known and hope to attract wide attention to this interesting problem.

Constant rank theorems for curvature problems via a viscosity approach

An important set of theorems in geometric analysis consists of constant rank theorems for a wide variety of curvature problems. In this paper, for geometric curvature problems in compact and non-compact settings, we provide new proofs which are both elementary and short. Moreover, we employ our method to obtain constant rank theorems for homogeneous and non-homogeneous curvature equations in new geometric settings. One of the essential ingredients for our method is a generalization of a differential inequality in a viscosity sense satisfied by the smallest eigenvalue of a linear map (Brendle-Choi-Daskalopoulos, Acta Math. 219(2017): 1-16) to the one for the subtrace. The viscosity approach provides a concise way to work around the well known technical hurdle that eigenvalues are only Lipschitz in general. This paves the way for a simple induction argument.

Parabolic approaches to curvature equations

We employ curvature flows without global terms to seek strictly convex, spacelike solutions of a broad class of elliptic prescribed curvature equations in the simply connected Riemannian spaceforms and the Lorentzian de Sitter space, where the prescribed function may depend on the position and the normal vector. In particular, in the Euclidean space we solve a class of prescribed curvature measure problems, intermediate $L_p$-Aleksandrov and dual Minkowski problems as well as their counterparts, namely the $L_{p}$-Christoffel-Minkowski type problems. In some cases we do not impose any condition on the anisotropy except positivity, and in the remaining cases our condition resembles the constant rank theorem/convexity principle due to Caffarelli-Guan-Ma (Commun. Pure Appl. Math. 60 (2007), 1769--1791). Our approach does not rely on monotone entropy functionals and it is suitable to treat curvature problems that do not possess variational structures.

Christoffel-Minkowski flows

We provide a curvature flow approach to the regular Christoffel-Minkowski problem. The speed of our curvature flow is of an entropy preserving type and contains a global term.
