Weak monotone rearrangement on the line

Weak optimal transport has been recently introduced by Gozlan et al. The original motivation stems from the theory of geometric inequalities; further applications concern numerics of martingale optimal transport and stability in mathematical finance. In this note we provide a complete geometric characterization of the 'weak' version of the classical monotone rearrangement between measures on the real line, complementing earlier results of Alfonsi, Corbetta, and Jourdain.

Martingale Benamou--Brenier: a probabilistic perspective

In classical optimal transport, the contributions of Benamou-Brenier and McCann regarding the time-dependent version of the problem are cornerstones of the field and form the basis for a variety of applications in other mathematical areas. We suggest a Benamou-Brenier type formulation of the martingale transport problem for given $d$-dimensional distributions $μ, ν$ in convex order. The unique solution $M^*=(M_t^*)_{t\in [0,1]}$ of this problem turns out to be a Markov-martingale which has several notable properties: In a specific sense it mimics the movement of a Brownian particle as closely as possible subject to the conditions $M^*_0\simμ, M^*_1\sim ν$. Similar to McCann's displacement-interpolation, $M^*$ provides a time-consistent interpolation between $μ$ and $ν$. For particular choices of the initial and terminal law, $M^*$ recovers archetypical martingales such as Brownian motion, geometric Brownian motion, and the Bass martingale. Furthermore, it yields a natural approximation to the local vol model and a new approach to Kellerer's theorem. This article is parallel to the work of Huesmann-Trevisan, who consider a related class of problems from a PDE-oriented perspective.

Non-exponential Sanov and Schilder theorems on Wiener space: BSDEs, Schrödinger problems and Control

We derive new limit theorems for Brownian motion, which can be seen as non-exponential analogues of the large deviation theorems of Sanov and Schilder in their Laplace principle forms. As a first application, we obtain novel scaling limits of backward stochastic differential equations and their related partial differential equations. As a second application, we extend prior results on the small-noise limit of the Schrödinger problem as an optimal transport cost, unifying the control-theoretic and probabilistic approaches initiated respectively by T. Mikami and C. Léonard. Lastly, our results suggest a new scheme for the computation of mean field optimal control problems, distinct from the conventional particle approximation. A key ingredient in our analysis is an extension of the classical variational formula (often attributed to Borell or Boué-Dupuis) for the Laplace transform of Wiener measure.

Extended Mean Field Control Problems: stochastic maximum principle and transport perspective

We study Mean Field stochastic control problems where the cost function and the state dynamics depend upon the joint distribution of the controlled state and the control process. We prove suitable versions of the Pontryagin stochastic maximum principle, both in necessary and in sufficient form, which extend the known conditions to this general framework. Furthermore, we suggest a variational approach to study a weak formulation of these control problems. We show a natural connection between this weak formulation and optimal transport on path space, which inspires a novel discretization scheme.
