Stationary and Free-fall frame Kerr black hole in gravity's rainbow

Doubly special relativity (DSR) is an effective model for encoding quantum gravity in flat spacetime. To incorporate DSR into general relativity, one could use gravity's rainbow, where the spacetime background felt by a test particle would depend on its energy. In this paper, we investigate the thermodynamics of rainbow Kerr black hole in the scenario with the stationary(ST) orthonormal frame and free-fall(FF) orthonormal frame. After the rainbow metric in ST frame and FF frame is deduced, the Hamilton-Jacobi method is used to acquire the modified Hawking temperature, specific heat and corresponding the modified entropy to each scenario, then the thermodynamic properties are discussed. We find that the effects of rainbow gravity on Kerr black holes are quite model-dependent. In other words, the value of parameter $η$ and $n$ with Amelino-Camelia's proposal are crucially important and worth discussing. Specificly, with most widly accepted choice ($n=2,η>0$), the effects of rainbow gravity tend to decrease the Hawking temperature but increase the black hole entropy in ST frame, and increase the Hawking temperature but decrease the black hole entropy in FF frame conversely.

Microstructure of Charged AdS Black Hole with Minimal Length Effects

In this work, the microstructure of charged AdS black holes under minimal length effects is investigated. We study the thermodynamics of black holes in the extended phase space, where the cosmological constant is regarded as the thermodynamic pressure. The modified Hawking temperature and phase transition are obtained based on the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP). Then, using thermodynamic geometry, we show that the microstructure of black holes can be determined by the ratio of GUP parameter to charge. For a small ratio, the black hole exhibits the typical RN-AdS microstructure with van der Waals phase transition and repulsive/attractive interactions. As the ratio increases, the reentrant phase transition takes place, and both the repulsion-attraction coexisted black hole and the attraction dominated black hole can be found in this case. For a large ratio, the black hole behaves like a Schwarzchild-AdS black hole in which neither phase transition nor repulsive interaction exists. These results suggest that the GUP effect will reduce the repulsive interaction presented by the charged AdS black hole, which can also be qualitatively understood from the perspective of black hole molecules.

Thermodynamics of the RN-AdS black hole with cloud of strings and quintessence in stationary and free-fall frame in rainbow gravity

In this paper, we investigate the thermodynamic properties of the RN-AdS black hole with cloud of strings and quintessence in rainbow gravity with the stationary (ST) orthonormal frame and the free-fall (FF) orthonormal frame. After the SF and the FF rainbow metric is obtained, we get the Hawking temperature and the entropy, and their physical meanings are discussed. We find that, for the ST rainbow RN-AdS black hole with cloud of strings and quintessence, the effect of rainbow gravity is to increase the Hawking temperature but decrease the entropy of the black hole. However, for the FF rainbow case, rainbow gravity turns out to decrease the Hawking temperature but increase the entropy of the black hole, which seems that the effects rainbow gravity has are quite model-dependent.

Shadow and Photon Sphere of Black Hole in Clouds of Strings and Quintessence

In this work, we study the shadow and photon sphere of the black bole in clouds of strings and quintessence with static and infalling spherical accretions. We obtain the geodesics of the photons near a black hole with different impact parameters $b$. The string clouds model and quintessence influence the specific intensity by affecting the geodesic and the average radial position of photons. And the range of string clouds parameter $a$ is constrained to ensure that the shadow can be observed. Moreover, we use a model of the photon emissivity $j(ν_e)$ to get the specific intensities. The light sources in the accretion follow a normal distribution with an attenuation factor $γ$. The shadow with static spherical accretion is plotted. The apparent shape of the shadow is a perfect circle, and the value of $γ$ affects the brightness of the photon sphere. We investigate the profile and specific intensity of the shadows with static and infalling spherical accretions respectively. The interior of the shadows with an infalling spherical accretion will be darker than that with the static spherical accretion, and the specific intensity with both static and infalling spherical accretion gradually converges.

SD2: Slicing and Dicing Scholarly Data for Interactive Evaluation of Academic Performance

Comprehensively evaluating and comparing researchers' academic performance is complicated due to the intrinsic complexity of scholarly data. Different scholarly evaluation tasks often require the publication and citation data to be investigated in various manners. In this paper, we present an interactive visualization framework, SD2, to enable flexible data partition and composition to support various analysis requirements within a single system. SD2 features the hierarchical histogram, a novel visual representation for flexibly slicing and dicing the data, allowing different aspects of scholarly performance to be studied and compared. We also leverage the state-of-the-art set visualization technique to select individual researchers or combine multiple scholars for comprehensive visual comparison. We conduct multiple rounds of expert evaluation to study the effectiveness and usability of SD2 and revise the design and system implementation accordingly. The effectiveness of SD2 is demonstrated via multiple usage scenarios with each aiming to answer a specific, commonly raised question.

Black Holes in a Cavity: Heat engine and Joule-Thomson Expansion

We consider the charged d-dimensional black holes in a cavity in extended phase space and investigate the heat engine and the Joule-Thomson (JT) expansion. Since the phase structure of black holes in a cavity is similar to anti-de-sitter (AdS) cases, we take black holes in a cavity as the working substance in the heat engine and calculate their efficiency in Carnot cycle and rectangular cycle. Also, we discuss whether the JT expansion of charged black holes in a cavity is consistent with AdS cases and conclude the effect of different boundary conditions on black hole thermodynamics.

Method of distinguishing between black holes and wormholes

Beginning with a brief review of the regular space-time with asymptotically Minkowski core, we can consider two copies of the space-time connected through a short-throat wormhole whose radius of mouth is equal to or larger than an extremal regular black hole with asymptotically Minkowski core's event horizon radius. If the wormhole is traversable and smooth, fluxes in these two space-times will interact with and flow into each other. On the cosmological scale, gravity is a candidate for the flux. As the gravitational field changes in one space-time, the behaviours of stars around the wormhole will be affected by the other space-time since we assume there exists enough exotic matter to keep the wormhole open. The changes in a gravitational field can be quantized through the gauge invariant perturbations. The variances in orbits of stars can be reflected by changes in the kinematic shifts of photon frequencies. Then, we use this to distinguish between the black hole and wormhole generated by the same space-time line element, since black hole can not connect two space-times and is unaffected by other space-time.

An additive graphical model for discrete data

We introduce a nonparametric graphical model for discrete node variables based on additive conditional independence. Additive conditional independence is a three way statistical relation that shares similar properties with conditional independence by satisfying the semi-graphoid axioms. Based on this relation we build an additive graphical model for discrete variables that does not suffer from the restriction of a parametric model such as the Ising model. We develop an estimator of the new graphical model via the penalized estimation of the discrete version of the additive precision operator and establish the consistency of the estimator under the ultrahigh-dimensional setting. Along with these methodological developments, we also exploit the properties of discrete random variables to uncover a deeper relation between additive conditional independence and conditional independence than previously known. The new graphical model reduces to a conditional independence graphical model under certain sparsity conditions. We conduct simulation experiments and analysis of an HIV antiretroviral therapy data set to compare the new method with existing ones.

New Gedanken experiment on Reissner-Nordström AdS Black Holes surrounded by quintessence

In this paper, we apply the new Gedanken experiment to investigate the weak cosmic censorship conjecture for Reissner-Nordström AdS black holes surrounded by quintessence. Since the perturbation of matter fields doesn't affect the spacetime geometry, we propose the stability condition and assume the process of matter fields falling into the black hole satisfies the null energy condition. Based on Iyer-Wald formalism we can derive the first order and second-order variational identities. From the two identities and the above two conditions lead to the first-order and second-order perturbation inequalities, and under the second-order approximation of matter fields perturbation, we find that the weak cosmic censorship conjecture is still satisfied.

Thermodynamic Instability of $\mathrm{3D}$ Einstein-Born-Infeld AdS Black Holes

Super-entropic black holes possess finite-area but noncompact event horizons and violate the reverse isoperimetric inequality. It has been conjectured that such black holes always have negative specific heat at constant volume $C_{V}$ or negative specific heat at constant pressure $C_{P}$ whenever $C_{V}>0$, making them unstable in extended thermodynamics. In this paper, we test this instability conjecture on a family of nonlinear electrodynamics black holes, namely $3$D Einstein-Born-Infeld (EBI) AdS black holes. Our results show that when nonlinear electrodynamics effects are weak, the instability conjecture is valid. However, the conjecture can be violated in some parameter region when nonlinear electrodynamics effects are strong enough. This observation thus provides a counter example to the instability conjecture, which suggests that super-entropic black holes could be thermodynamically stable.

Phase Structures and Transitions of Quintessence Surrounding RN Black Holes in a Grand Canonical Ensemble

Considering a grand canonical ensemble, we study the phase structures and transitions of RN black holes surrounded by quintessence dark energy on two different boundary conditions, namely AdS space and a Dirichlet wall. For AdS space, under the condition of fixed temperature and potential, as the temperature increases for lower potential, the black hole undergoes a first-order phase transition, while for higher potential, no phase transition occurs. There are two different regions in the parameter space. For the Dirichlet wall, on which the temperature and potential are fixed and the state parameter of quintessence $ω=-2/3$ is analyzed in detail. Then, three different physically allowed regions in the parameter space of the black hole are well studied. As the temperature rises, a first-order phase transition and a second-order phase transition may occur. In this case, there are nine regions in the parameter space, which is obviously distinct from the case of AdS space.

Minimal Length Effect on Thermodynamics and Weak Cosmic Censorship Conjecture in anti-de Sitter Black Holes via Charged Particle Absorption

In this paper, we investigate minimal length effects on the thermodynamics and weak cosmic censorship conjecture in a RN-AdS black bole via charged particle absorption. We first use the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) to investigate the minimal length effect on the Hamilton-Jacobi equation. After the deformed Hamilton-Jacobi equation is derived, we use it to study the variations of the thermodynamic quantities of a RN-Ads black hole via absorbing a charged practice. Furthermore, we check the second law of thermodynamics and the weak cosmic censorship conjecture in two phase spaces. In the normal phase space, the second law of thermodynamics and the weak cosmic censorship conjecture are satisfied in the usual and GUP deformed cases, and the minimal length effect makes the increase of entropy faster than the usual case. After the charge particle absorption, the extremal RN-AdS black hole becomes non-extremal. In the extended phase space, the black hole entropy can either increase or decrease. When $T>2Pr_{+}$, the second law is satisfied. When $T<2Pr_{+}$, the second law of thermodynamics is violated for the extremal or near-extremal black hole. Finally, we find that the weak cosmic censorship conjecture is legal for extremal and near-extremal RN-Ads black holes in the GUP deformed case.

Charged torus-like black holes as heat engines

We investigate the thermodynamical properties of charged torus-like black holes and take it as the working substance to study the heat engines. In the extended phase space, by interpreting the cosmological constant as the thermodynamic pressure, we derive the thermodynamical quantities by the first law of black hole thermodynamics and obtain the equation of state. Then, we calculate the efficiency of the heat engine in Carnot cycle as well as rectangular cycle, and investigate how the efficiency changes with respect to volume. In addition, to avoid a negative temperature, we emphasize that the charge of this black hole can not be arbitrary. Last, we check the calculation accuracy of a benchmark scheme and discuss the upper bound and lower bound for charged torus-like black hole in the scheme.

Joule-Thomson Expansion of RN-AdS Black Hole Immersed in Perfect Fluid Dark Matter

In this paper, we study the Joule-Thomson expansion for RN-AdS black holes immersed in perfect fluid dark matter. Firstly, the negative cosmological constant could be interpreted as thermodynamic pressure and its conjugate quantity with the volume gave us more physical insights into the black hole. We derive the thermodynamic definitions and study the critical behaviour of this black hole. Secondly, the explicit expression of Joule-Thomson coefficient is obtained from the basic formulas of enthalpy and temperature. Then, we obtain the isenthalpic curve in $T-P$ graph and demonstrate the cooling-heating region by the inversion curve. At last, we derive the ratio of minimum inversion temperature to critical temperature and the inversion curves in terms of charge $Q$ and parameter $λ$.

Holographic DC Conductivity for Backreacted NLED in Massive Gravity

In this work a holographic model with the charge current dual to a general nonlinear electrodynamics (NLED) is discussed in the framework of massive gravity. Massive graviton can breaks the diffeomorphism invariance in the bulk and generates momentum dissipation in the dual boundary theory. The expression of DC conductivities in a finite magnetic field are obtained, with the backreaction of NLED field on the background geometry. General transport properties in various limits are presented, and then we turn to the three of specific NLED models: the conventional Maxwell electrodynamics, the Maxwell-Chern-Simons electrodynamics, and the Born-Infeld electrodynamics, to study the parameter-dependence of in-plane resistivity. Two mechanisms leading to the Mott-insulating behaviors and negative magneto-resistivity are revealed at zero temperature, and the role played by the massive gravity coupling parameters are discussed.

A Unified Model for the Two-stage Offline-then-Online Resource Allocation

With the popularity of the Internet, traditional offline resource allocation has evolved into a new form, called online resource allocation. It features the online arrivals of agents in the system and the real-time decision-making requirement upon the arrival of each online agent. Both offline and online resource allocation have wide applications in various real-world matching markets ranging from ridesharing to crowdsourcing. There are some emerging applications such as rebalancing in bike sharing and trip-vehicle dispatching in ridesharing, which involve a two-stage resource allocation process. The process consists of an offline phase and another sequential online phase, and both phases compete for the same set of resources. In this paper, we propose a unified model which incorporates both offline and online resource allocation into a single framework. Our model assumes non-uniform and known arrival distributions for online agents in the second online phase, which can be learned from historical data. We propose a parameterized linear programming (LP)-based algorithm, which is shown to be at most a constant factor of $1/4$ from the optimal. Experimental results on the real dataset show that our LP-based approaches outperform the LP-agnostic heuristics in terms of robustness and effectiveness.

Joule-Thomson Expansion of Born-Infeld AdS Black Holes

In this paper, the Joule-Thomson expansion of Born-Infeld AdS black holes is studied in the extended phase space, where the cosmological constant is identified with the pressure. The Joule-Thomson coefficient, the inversion curves and the isenthalpic curves are discussed in detail by 4-dimensional black hole. The critical point of Born-Infeld black hole is depicted with varying parameter $β$ and the charge $Q$. In $T-P$ plane, the inversion temperature curves and isenthalpic curves are obtained with different parameter $β$ and the charge $Q$. We find that the missing negative slope is still conserved in Born-Infeld black holes. We also extend our discussion to arbitrary dimension higher than 4. The critical temperature and the minimum of inversion temperature are compared, and the ratio is asymptotically $1/2$ as $Q$ increases or $β\to\infty$ in $D=4$, and reproduce the previous results in higher dimension.

Extended Phase Space Thermodynamics for Dyonic Black Holes with a Power Maxwell Field

In this paper, we investigate the thermodynamics of dyonic black holes with the presence of power Maxwell electromagnetic field in the extended phase space, which includes the cosmological constant $Λ$ as a thermodynamic variable. For a generic power Maxwell black hole with the electric charge and magnetic charge, the equation of state is given as the function of rescaled temperature $\tilde{T}$ in terms of other rescaled variables $ \tilde{r}_{+}$, $\tilde{q}$ and $\tilde{h}$, where $r_{+}$ is the horizon radius, $q$ is the electric charge and $h$ is some magnetic parameter. For some values of $\tilde{q}$ and $\tilde{h}$, the phase structure of the black hole is uniquely determined. Moreover the peculiarity of multiple temperature with some fixed parameter configurations results in more rich phase structures. Focusing on the power Maxwell Lagrangian with $\mathcal{L} \left( s\right) =s^{2}$, we obtain the corresponding phase diagrams in the $ \tilde{q}$-$\tilde{h}$ plane, then analyse the black holes phase structure and critical behaviour. For this case, the critical line is semi-infinite and extends to $\tilde{h}=\infty$. We also examine thermal stabilities of these black holes.
