Thermodynamics and overcharging problem in the extended phase spaces of charged AdS black holes with cloud of strings and quintessence under charged particle absorption

The thermodynamics and overcharging problem in the RN-AdS black hole with the cloud of strings and quintessence are investigated by absorption of scalar particle and fermion in the extend phase space. The cosmological constant is treated as the pressure with a conjugate volume. Besides, the parameters related to quintessence and cloud of strings are treated as thermodynamic variables. Finally we find the first law of thermodynamics is satisfied and the second law of thermodynamics is indefinite. Furthermore, the near-extremal and extremal black holes can not be overcharged.

Thermodynamic extremality relations in the massive gravity

A universal relation between the leading correction to the entropy and extremality was gotten in the work of Goon and Penco. In this paper, we extend this work to the massive gravity and investigate thermodynamic extremality relations in a topologically higher-dimensional black hole. A rescaled cosmological constant is added to the action of the massive gravity as a perturbative correction. This correction modifies the extremality bound of the black hole and leads to the shifts of the mass, entropy, etc. The Goon-Penco relation is gotten. Regarding the cosmological constant as a variable related to pressure, we get the thermodynamic extremality relations between the mass and pressure, charge, parameters $c_i$ by accurate calculations, respectively. Finally, these relations are verified by a triple product identity, which shows that the universal relation exists in black holes.

Comparison between $Fermi$ Detected and non-$Fermi$ Detected Superluminal Sources

Active galactic nuclei (AGNs) have been attracting research attention due to their special observable properties. Specifically, a majority of AGNs are detected by Fermi-LAT missions, but not by Fermi-LAT, which raises the question of whether any differences exist between the two. To answer this issue, we compile a sample of 291 superluminal AGNs (189 FDSs and 102 non-FDSs) from available multi-wavelength radio, optical, and X-ray (or even $γ$-ray) data and Doppler factors and proper motion ($μ$) (or apparent velocity ($β_{\rm{app}}$)); calculated the apparent velocity from their proper motion, Lorentz factor ($Γ$), viewing angle ($ϕ$) and co-moving viewing angle ($ϕ_{co}$) for the sources with available Doppler factor ($δ$); and performed some statistical analyses for both types. Our study indicated that1. In terms of average values, FDSs have higher proper motions ($μ$), apparent velocities ($β_{\rm app}$), Doppler factor ($δ$), Lorentz factor ($Γ$), and smaller viewing angle ($ϕ$). Nevertheless, there is no clear difference in co-moving viewing angles ($ϕ_{\rm co}$).

Universal thermodynamic extremality relations for charged AdS black hole surrounded by quintessence

The perturbation correction of general relativity has obtained the general relationship between entropy and extremality. The relation was found to exactly hold for the charged AdS black hole, and extended to the rotating and massive gravity black holes. In this paper, We confirm the universal relation for the four dimensional RN-AdS black hole surrounded by the quintessence, and find a new extremality relation between black hole mass and the normalization factor $a$ related to the density of quintessence. Besides, we also find that when the black hole entropy increases, the correction constant is negative, the black hole mass and the mass-charge ratio decreases, hence this black hole displays WGC-like behavior. Moreover, we derive the general relationship on nonlinear electrodynamic source couples to AdS spacetime with quintessence field. We find another new extremality relation between black hole mass and the magnetic monopole charge $β$.

Test the Weak Cosmic Censorship Conjecture in Torus-Like Black Hole under Charged Scalar Field

We investigate weak cosmic censorship conjecture in charged torus-like black hole by the complex scalar field scattering. Using the relation between the conserved quantities of a black hole and the scalar field, we can calculate the change of the energy and charge within the infinitesimal time. The change of the enthalpy is connected to the change of energy, then we use those results to test whether the first law, the second law as well as the weak cosmic censorship conjecture are valid. In the normal phase space, the first law of thermodynamics and the weak cosmic censorship conjecture are valid, and the second law of thermodynamics is not violated. For the specific black hole under scalar field scattering we consider, in the extend phase space, the first law of thermodynamics and the weak cosmic censorship conjecture are valid. However, the second law of thermodynamics is violated when the black hole's initial charge reaches a certain value.

Projection based Active Gaussian Process Regression for Pareto Front Modeling

Pareto Front (PF) modeling is essential in decision making problems across all domains such as economics, medicine or engineering. In Operation Research literature, this task has been addressed based on multi-objective optimization algorithms. However, without learning models for PF, these methods cannot examine whether a new provided point locates on PF or not. In this paper, we reconsider the task from Data Mining perspective. A novel projection based active Gaussian process regression (P- aGPR) method is proposed for efficient PF modeling. First, P- aGPR chooses a series of projection spaces with dimensionalities ranking from low to high. Next, in each projection space, a Gaussian process regression (GPR) model is trained to represent the constraint that PF should satisfy in that space. Moreover, in order to improve modeling efficacy and stability, an active learning framework has been developed by exploiting the uncertainty information obtained in the GPR models. Different from all existing methods, our proposed P-aGPR method can not only provide a generative PF model, but also fast examine whether a provided point locates on PF or not. The numerical results demonstrate that compared to state-of-the-art passive learning methods the proposed P-aGPR method can achieve higher modeling accuracy and stability.

Free-fall Rainbow BTZ Black Hole

Doubly special relativity (DSR) is an effective model for encoding quantum gravity in flat spacetime. To incorporate DSR into general relativity, one could use "Gravity's rainbow", where the spacetime background felt by a test particle would depend on its energy. For a black hole, there are two natural orthonormal frames, the stationary one hovering above it and freely falling one along geodesics. Since the rainbow metric is the metric that the radiated particles "see", a more natural orthonormal frame is the one anchored to the particles. And the cases with the stationary orthonormal frame have been extensively studied in the literature. In this paper, we investigate properties of rainbow BTZ black holes in the scenario with the free-fall orthonormal frame. We first review the thermodynamic properties of a BTZ black hole. Furthermore, we obtain the Free-fall (FF) rainbow BTZ black hole and then calculate its Hawking temperature via the Hamilton-Jacobi method. Finally, we discuss the thermodynamic properties of a FF stationary rainbow BTZ black hole .

Thermodynamics and weak cosmic censorship conjecture in the charged RN-AdS black hole surrounded by quintessence under the scalar field

In this paper, we study the thermodynamics and the weak cosmic censorship conjecture of the RN-AdS black hole surrounded by the quintessence under the scattering of a charged complex scalar field. With scalar field scattering, the variation of the black hole is calculated in the extended and normal phase spaces. In the extended phase space, the cosmological constant and the normalization parameter are considered as thermodynamic variables, and the first law of thermodynamics is valid, but the second law of thermodynamics is not valid. In the normal phase space, the cosmological constant and the normalization parameter are fixed, and the first and second laws of thermodynamics can also be satisfied. Furthermore, the weak cosmic censorship conjecture is both valid in the extended and normal phase spaces.

Minimal Length Effects on Chaotic Motion of Particles around Black Hole Horizon

Recently, it was conjectured that the Lyapunov exponent of chaotic motion of a particle in a black hole is universally bounded from above by the surface gravity of the black hole. On the other hand, the minimal length appears in various theories of quantum gravity and leads to the deformed canonical position-momentum commutation relation. In this paper, we use the Hamilton-Jacobi method to study effects of the minimal length on the motion of a massive particle perturbed away from an unstable equilibrium near the black hole horizon. We find that the minimal length effects make the particle move faster away from the equilibrium, and hence the corresponding Lyapunov exponent is greater than that in the usual case with the absence of the minimal length. It therefore shows that if the minimal length effects are taken into account, the conjectured universal bound on the Lyapunov exponent could be violated.

Black Hole Radiation with Modified Dispersion Relation in Tunneling Paradigm: Static Frame

Due to the exponential high gravitational red shift near the event horizon of a black hole, it might appears that the Hawking radiation would be highly sensitive to some unknown high energy physics. To study possible deviations from the Hawking's prediction, the dispersive field theory models have been proposed, following the Unruh's hydrodynamic analogue of a black hole radiation. In the dispersive field theory models, the dispersion relations of matter fields are modified at high energies, which leads to modifications of equations of motion. In this paper, we use the Hamilton-Jacobi method to investigate the dispersive field theory models. The preferred frame is the static frame of the black hole. The dispersion relation adopted agrees with the relativistic one at low energies but is modified near the Planck mass $m_{p}$. We calculate the corrections to the Hawking temperature for massive and charged particles to $\mathcal{O}\left(m_{p}^{-2}\right) $ and massless and neutral particles to all orders. Our results suggest that the thermal spectrum of radiations near horizon is robust, e.g. corrections to the Hawking temperature are suppressed by $m_{p}$. After the spectrum of radiations near the horizon is obtained, we use the brick wall model to compute the thermal entropy of a massless scalar field near the horizon of a 4D spherically symmetric black hole. We find that the leading term of the entropy depends on how the dispersion relations of matter fields are modified, while the subleading logarithmic term does not. Finally, the luminosities of black holes are computed by using the geometric optics approximation.

Optical monitoring of BL Lac object S5 0716+714 and FSRQ 3C273 from 2000 to 2014

Using the 1.56m telescope at the Shanghai Observatory (ShAO), China, we monitored two sources, BL Lac object S5 0716+714 and Flat Spectrum Radio Quasar (FSRQ) 3C 273. For S5 0716+714, we report 4969 sets of CCD (Charge-coupled Device) photometrical optical observations (1369 for V band, 1861 for R band and 1739 for I band) in the monitoring time from Dec.4, 2000 to Apr.5, 2014. For 3C 273, we report 460 observations (138 for V band, 146 for R band and 176 for I band) in the monitoring time from Mar. 28, 2006 to Apr. 9, 2014. The observations provide us with a large amount of data to analyze the short-term and long-term optical variabilities. Based on the variable timescales, we can estimate the central black hole mass and the Doppler factor. An abundance of multi-band observations can help us to analyze the relations between the brightness and spectrum. We use Gaussian fitting to analyze the intra-day light curves and obtain the intra-day variability (IDV) timescales. We use the discrete correlation function (DCF) method and Jurkevich method to analyze the quasi-periodic variability. Based on the VRI observations, we use the linear fitting to analyze the relations between brightness and spectrum. The two sources both show IDV properties for S5 0716+714. The timescales are in the range from 17.3 minutes to 4.82 hours; for 3C273, the timescale is 35.6 minutes. Based on the periodic analysis methods, we find the periods P(V) = 24.24 days, P(R)=24.12 days, P(I)=24.82 days for S5 0716+714, and P = 12.99, 21.76 yr for 3C273. The two sources displayed the "bluer-when-brighter" spectral evolution properties. S5 0716+714 and 3C 273 are frequently studied objects. The violent optical variability and IDV may come from the jet. Gaussian fitting can be used to analyze IDVs. The relations between brightness (flux density) and spectrum are strongly influenced by the frequency.

Testing Holographic Conjectures of Complexity with Born-Infeld Black Holes

In this paper, we use Born-Infeld black holes to test two recent holographic conjectures of complexity, the "Complexity = Action" (CA) duality and "Complexity = Volume 2.0" (CV) duality. The complexity of a boundary state is identified with the action of the Wheeler-deWitt patch in CA duality, while this complexity is identified with the spacetime volume of the WdW patch in CV duality. In particular, we check whether the Born-Infeld black holes violate the Lloyd bound: $\mathcal{\dot{C}\leq}\frac{2}{π\hbar}\left[ \left( M-QΦ\right) -\left( M-QΦ\right) _{\text{gs}}\right] $, where gs stands for the ground state for a given electrostatic potential. We find that the ground states are either some extremal black hole or regular spacetime with nonvanishing charges. Near extremality, the Lloyd bound is violated in both dualities. Near the charged regular spacetime, this bound is satisfied in CV duality but violated in CA duality. When moving away from the ground state on a constant potential curve, the Lloyd bound tend to be saturated from below in CA duality, while $\mathcal{\dot{C}}$ is $π/2$ times as large as the Lloyd bound in CV duality.

A note on quickly sampling a sparse matrix with low rank expectation

Given matrices $X,Y \in R^{n \times K}$ and $S \in R^{K \times K}$ with positive elements, this paper proposes an algorithm fastRG to sample a sparse matrix $A$ with low rank expectation $E(A) = XSY^T$ and independent Poisson elements. This allows for quickly sampling from a broad class of stochastic blockmodel graphs (degree-corrected, mixed membership, overlapping) all of which are specific parameterizations of the generalized random product graph model defined in Section 2.2. The basic idea of fastRG is to first sample the number of edges $m$ and then sample each edge. The key insight is that because of the the low rank expectation, it is easy to sample individual edges. The naive "element-wise" algorithm requires $O(n^2)$ operations to generate the $n\times n$ adjacency matrix $A$. In sparse graphs, where $m = O(n)$, ignoring log terms, fastRG runs in time $O(n)$. An implementation in fastRG is available on github. A computational experiment in Section 2.4 simulates graphs up to $n=10,000,000$ nodes with $m = 100,000,000$ edges. For example, on a graph with $n=500,000$ and $m = 5,000,000$, fastRG runs in less than one second on a 3.5 GHz Intel i5.

HoNVis: Visualizing and Exploring Higher-Order Networks

Unlike the conventional first-order network (FoN), the higher-order network (HoN) provides a more accurate description of transitions by creating additional nodes to encode higher-order dependencies. However, there exists no visualization and exploration tool for the HoN. For applications such as the development of strategies to control species invasion through global shipping which is known to exhibit higher-order dependencies, the existing FoN visualization tools are limited. In this paper, we present HoNVis, a novel visual analytics framework for exploring higher-order dependencies of the global ocean shipping network. Our framework leverages coordinated multiple views to reveal the network structure at three levels of detail (i.e., the global, local, and individual port levels). Users can quickly identify ports of interest at the global level and specify a port to investigate its higher-order nodes at the individual port level. Investigating a larger-scale impact is enabled through the exploration of HoN at the local level. Using the global ocean shipping network data, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach with a real-world use case conducted by domain experts specializing in species invasion. Finally, we discuss the generalizability of this framework to other real-world applications such as information diffusion in social networks and epidemic spreading through air transportation.

Free-fall Frame Black Hole in Gravity's Rainbow

Doubly special relativity (DSR) is an effective model for encoding quantum gravity in flat spacetime. To incorporate DSR into general relativity, one could use "Gravity's rainbow", where the spacetime background felt by a test particle would depend on its energy. In this scenario, one could rewrite the rainbow metric $g_{μν}\left( E\right) $ in terms of some orthonormal frame fields and use the modified equivalence principle to determine the energy dependence of $g_{μν}\left( E\right) $. Obviously, the form of $g_{μν}\left( E\right) $ depends on the choice of the orthonormal frame. For a static black hole, there are two natural orthonormal frames, the static one hovering above it and freely falling one along geodesics. The cases with the static orthonormal frame have been extensively studied by many authors. The aim of this paper is to investigate properties of rainbow black holes in the scenario with the free-fall orthonormal frame. We first derive the metric of rainbow black holes and their Hawking temperatures in this free-fall scenario. Then, the thermodynamics of a rainbow Schwarzschild black hole is studied. Finally, we use the brick wall model to compute the thermal entropy of a massless scalar field near the horizon of a Schwarzschild rainbow black hole in this free-fall scenario.

Transition from Solitons to Solitary Waves in the Fermi-Pasta-Ulam Lattice

In this paper, we study the smooth transition from solitons to solitary waves in localization, relation between energy and velocity, propagation and scattering property in the Fermi-Pasta-Ulam lattice analytically and numerically. A soliton is a very stable solitary wave that retains its permanent structure after interacting with other solitary waves. A soliton exists when the energy is small, and it becomes a solitary wave when the energy increases to the threshold. The transition could help to understand the distinctly different heat conduction behaviors of the Fermi-Pasta-Ulam lattice at low and high temperature.

The modified first laws of thermodynamics of anti-de Sitter and de Sitter space-times

We modify the first laws of thermodynamics of a Reissner-Nordstrom anti-de Sitter black hole and a pure de Sitter space-time by the surface tensions. The corresponding Smarr relations are obeyed. The cosmological constants are first treated as fixed constants, and then as variables associated to the pressures. For the black hole, the law is written as $δE = T δS - σδA$ when the cosmological constant is fixed, where $E$ is the Misner-Sharp mass and $σ$ is the surface tension. Adopting the varied constant, we modify the law as $δE_0 = T δS - σ_{eff}δA +VδP$, where $E_0=M-\frac{Q^2}{2r_+}$ is the enthalpy. The thermodynamical properties are investigated. For the de Sitter space-time, the expressions of the modified laws are different from these of the black hole. The differential way to derive the law is discussed.
