Spin-resolved bunching and noise characteristics in double quantum dots coupled to ferromagnetic electrodes

We study spin-resolved noise in Coulomb blockaded double quantum dots coupled to ferromagnetic electrodes. The modulation of the interdot coupling and spin polarization in the electrodes gives rise to an intriguing dynamical spin $\uparrow$-$\uparrow$ ($\downarrow$-$\downarrow$) blockade mechanism: Bunching of up (down) spins due to dynamical blockade of an up (down) spin. In contrast to the conventional dynamical spin $\uparrow$-$\downarrow$ bunching (bunching of up spins entailed by dynamical blockade of a down spin), this new bunching behavior is found to be intimately associated with the spin mutual-correlation, i.e., the noise fluctuation between opposite spin currents. We further demonstrate that the dynamical spin $\uparrow$-$\uparrow$ and $\uparrow$-$\downarrow$ bunching of tunneling events may be coexistent in the regime of weak interdot coupling and low spin polarization.

Full counting statistics of renormalized dynamics in open quantum transport system

The internal dynamics of a double quantum dot system is renormalized due to coupling respectively with transport electrodes and a dissipative heat bath. Their essential differences are identified unambiguously in the context of full counting statistics. The electrode coupling caused level detuning renormalization gives rise to a fast-to-slow transport mechanism, which is not resolved at all in the average current, but revealed uniquely by pronounced super-Poissonian shot noise and skewness. The heat bath coupling introduces an interdot coupling renormalization, which results in asymmetric Fano factor and an intriguing change of line shape in the skewness.

Full Counting statistics of level renormalization in electron transport through double quantum dots

We examine the full counting statistics of electron transport through double quantum dots coupled in series, with particular attention being paid to the unique features originating from level renormalization. It is clearly illustrated that the energy renormalization gives rise to a dynamic charge blockade mechanism, which eventually results in super-Poissonian noise. Coupling of the double dots to an external heat bath leads to dephasing and relaxation mechanisms, which are demonstrated to suppress the noise in a unique way.

Renormalized dynamics in charge qubit measurements by a single electron transistor

We investigate charge qubit measurements using a single electron transistor, with focus on the backaction-induced renormalization of qubit parameters. It is revealed the renormalized dynamics leads to a number of intriguing features in the detector's noise spectra, and therefore needs to be accounted for to properly understand the measurement result. Noticeably, the level renormalization gives rise to a strongly enhanced signal-to-noise ratio, which can even exceed the universal upper bound imposed quantum mechanically on linear-response detectors.

Real-time counting of single electron tunneling through a T-shaped double quantum dot system

Real-time detection of single electron tunneling through a T-shaped double quantum dot is simulated, based on a Monte Carlo scheme. The double dot is embedded in a dissipative environment and the presence of electrons on the double dot is detected with a nearby quantum point contact. We demonstrate directly the bunching behavior in electron transport, which leads eventually to a super-Poissonian noise. Particularly, in the context of full counting statistics, we investigate the essential difference between the dephasing mechanisms induced by the quantum point contact detection and the coupling to the external phonon bath. A number of intriguing noise features associated with various transport mechanisms are revealed.

Spin-dependent current noises in transport through coupled quantum dots

Current fluctuations can provide additional insight into quantum transport in mesoscopic systems. The present work is carried out for the fluctuation properties of transport through a pair of coupled quantum dots which are connected with ferromagnetic electrodes. Based on an efficient particle-number-resolved master equation approach, we are concerned with not only fluctuations of the total charge and spin currents, but also of each individual spin-dependent component. As a result of competition among the spin polarization, Coulomb interaction, and dot-dot tunnel coupling, rich behaviors are found for the self- and mutual-correlation functions of the spin-dependent currents.

Reduced dynamics with renormalization in solid-state charge qubit measurement

Quantum measurement will inevitably cause backaction on the measured system, resulting in the well known dephasing and relaxation. In this report, in the context of solid--state qubit measurement by a mesoscopic detector, we show that an alternative backaction known as renormalization is important under some circumstances. This effect is largely overlooked in the theory of quantum measurement.

Dynamics of quantum dissipation systems interacting with Fermion and Boson grand canonical bath ensembles: Hierarchical equations of motion approach

A hierarchical equations of motion formalism for a quantum dissipation system in a grand canonical bath ensemble surrounding is constructed, on the basis of the calculus-on-path-integral algorithm, together with the parametrization of arbitrary non-Markovin bath that satisfies fluctuation-dissipation theorem. The influence functionals for both the Fermion or Boson bath interaction are found to be of the same path-integral expression as the canonical bath, assuming they all satisfy the Gaussian statistics. However, the equation of motion formalism are different, due to the fluctuation-dissipation theories that are distinct and used explicitly. The implications of the present work to quantum transport through molecular wires and electron transfer in complex molecular systems are discussed.

Quantum measurement characteristics of double-dot single electron transistor

Owing to a few unique advantages, double-dot single electron transistor has been proposed as an alternative detector for charge states. In this work, we present a further study for its signal-to-noise property, based on a full analysis of the setup configuration symmetry. It is found that the effectiveness of the double-dot detector can approach that of an ideal detector, if the symmetric capacitive coupling is taken into account. The quantum measurement efficiency is also analyzed, by comparing the measurement time with the measurement-induced dephasing time.

Calculation of the current noise spectrum in mesoscopic transport: an efficient quantum master equation approach

Based on our recent work on quantum transport [Li et al., Phys. Rev. B 71, 205304 (2005)], where the calculation of transport current by means of quantum master equation was presented, in this paper we show how an efficient calculation can be performed for the transport noise spectrum. Compared to the longstanding classical rate equation or the recently proposed quantum trajectory method, the approach presented in this paper combines their respective advantages, i.e., it enables us to tackle both the many-body Coulomb interactionand quantum coherence on equal footing and under a wide range of setup circumstances. The practical performance and advantages are illustrated by a number of examples, where besides the known results and new insights obtained in a transparent manner, we find that this alternative approach is much simpler than other well-known full quantum mechanical methods such as the Landauer-Büttiker scattering matrix theory and the nonequilibrium Green's function technique.
