Multi-bubble solutions for the Dirichlet problem of the $H$-system with higher degree

We consider a Dirichlet problem of the $H$-system \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} Δv = 2v_x\wedge v_y ~& \text{ in }\mathcal{D},\\ v=\varepsilon \tilde g ~& \text{ on }\partial{\mathcal{D}}, \end{cases} \end{equation*} where $\mathcal D\subset \mathbb{R}^2$ is the unit disk, $v:\mathcal D\to \mathbb{R}^3$, and $\tilde g:\partial \mathcal D\to \mathbb{R}^3$ is a given smooth map. As $\varepsilon\to 0^+$, we construct multi-bubble solutions concentrating at distinct points, taking around each point the profile of degree 2 $H$-bubble. This gives a partial answer to a conjecture due to Brezis-Coron and Chanillo-Malchiodi concerning the limiting configuration in the case of higher degrees. This seems to be the first construction in employing higher-degree harmonic maps as the primary configurations.

Flow approach on Riesz type nonlocal energies

Via continuous deformations based on natural flow evolutions, we prove several novel monotonicity results for Riesz-type nonlocal energies on triangles and quadrilaterals. Some of these results imply new and simpler proofs for known theorems without relying on any symmetrization arguments.

Quantitative stratification for the fractional Allen-Cahn equation and stationary nonlocal minimal surface

We study properties of solutions to the fractional Allen-Cahn equation when $s\in (0, 1/2)$ and dimension $n\geq 2$. By applying the quantitative stratification principle developed by Naber and Valtorta, we obtain an optimal quantitative estimate on the transition set. As an application of this estimate, we improve the potential energy estimates of Cabre, Cinti, and Serra (2021), providing sharp versions for the fractional Allen-Cahn equation. Similarly, we obtain optimal perimeter estimates for stationary nonlocal minimal surfaces, extending previous results of Cinti, Serra, and Valdinoci (2019) from the stable case.

Total masses of solutions to general Toda systems with singular sources

In this article we obtain total masses of solutions to the Toda system associated to a general simple Lie algebra with singular sources at the origin. The determination of such total masses is one of the important steps towards establishing the a priori bound for solutions to the mean field type of Toda system on compact surfaces. The total mass is found to be related to the longest element $κ$ in the Weyl group of the corresponding Lie algebra. This is the foundation to future work relating the local blowup masses (from analysis) with the Weyl group. This work generalizes the previous works in Lin et al. (2012), Ao et al. (2015) and Nie (20160 for Toda systems of types $A, G_2$ and $B, C$. However, a more Lie-theoretic method is needed here for the general case, and the method relies heavily on the DPW method, Drinfeld-Sokolov gauge and the $W$-invariants. The last crucial step for the total masses is obtained by applying the work of Kostant (1979) on the one dimensional Toda lattice.

Construction of bubbling solutions of the Brezis-Nirenberg problem in general bounded domains (I): the dimensions 4 and 5

In this paper, we consider the Brezis-Nirenberg problem $$ -Δu=λu+|u|^{\frac{4}{N-2}}u,\quad\mbox{in}\,\, Ω,\quad u=0,\quad\mbox{on}\,\, \partialΩ, $$ where $λ\in\mathbb{R}$, $Ω\subset\mathbb R^N$ is a bounded domain with smooth boundary $\partialΩ$ and $N\geq3$. We prove that every eigenvalue of the Laplacian operator $-Δ$ with the Dirichlet boundary is a concentration value of the Brezis-Nirenberg problem in dimensions $N=4$ and $N=5$ by constructing bubbling solutions with precisely asymptotic profiles via the Ljapunov-Schmidt reduction arguments. Our results suggest that the bubbling phenomenon of the Brezis-Nirenberg problem in dimensions $N=4$ and $N=5$ as the parameter $λ$ is close to the eigenvalues are governed by crucial functions related to the eigenfunctions, which has not been observed yet in the literature to our best knowledge. Moreover, as the parameter $λ$ is close to the eigenvalues, there are arbitrary number of multi-bump bubbing solutions in dimension $N=4$ while, there are only finitely many number of multi-bump bubbing solutions in dimension $N=5$, which are also new findings to our best knowledge.

On Brezis' First Open Problem: A Complete Solution

In 2023, H.\,Brezis published a list of his ``favorite open problems", which he described as challenges he had ``raised throughout his career and has resisted so far". We provide a complete resolution to the first one--Open Problem 1.1--in Brezis's favorite open problems list: the existence of solutions to the long-standing Brezis-Nirenberg problem on a three-dimensional ball. Furthermore, using the building blocks of Del Pino-Musso-Pacard-Pistoia sign-changing solutions to the Yamabe problem, we establish the existence of infinitely many sign-changing, nonradial solutions for the full range of the parameter.

Uniqueness and multiplicity for semilinear elliptic problems in unbounded domains

We study the influence of geometry on semilinear elliptic equations of bistable or nonlinear-field type in unbounded domains. We discover a surprising dichotomy between epigraphs that are bounded from below and those that contain a cone of aperture greater than $π$: the former admit at most one positive bounded solution, while the latter support infinitely many. Nonetheless, we show that every epigraph admits at most one strictly stable solution. To prove uniqueness, we strengthen the method of moving planes by decomposing the domain into one region where solutions are stable and another where they enjoy a form of compactness. Our construction of many solutions exploits a connection with Delaunay surfaces in differential geometry, and extends to all domains containing a suitably wide cone, including exterior domains.

Multi-spots Steady States in Two-species Keller-Segel Models with Logistic Growth: Large Chemotactic Attraction Regime

One of the most important findings in the study of chemotactic process is self-organized cellular aggregation, and a high volume of results are devoted to the analysis of a concentration of single species. Whereas, the multi-species case is not understood as well as the single species one. In this paper, we consider two-species chemotaxis systems with logistic source in a bounded domain $Ω\subset \mathbb R^2.$ Under the large chemo-attractive coefficients and one certain type of chemical production coefficient matrices, we employ the inner-outer gluing approach to construct multi-spots steady states, in which the profiles of cellular densities have strong connections with the entire solutions to Liouville systems and their locations are determined in terms of reduced-wave Green's functions. In particular, some numerical simulations and formal analysis are performed to support our rigorous studies.

Existence and Blow-up Profiles of Ground States in Second Order Multi-population Mean-field Games Systems

In this paper, we utilize the variational structure to study the existence and asymptotic profiles of ground states in multi-population ergodic Mean-field Games systems subject to some local couplings with mass critical exponents. Of concern the attractive and repulsive interactions, we impose some mild conditions on trapping potentials and firstly classify the existence of ground states in terms of intra-population and interaction coefficients. Next, as the intra-population and inter-population coefficients approach some critical values, we show the ground states blow up at one of global minima of potential functions and the corresponding profiles are captured by ground states to potential-free Mean-field Games systems for single population up to translations and rescalings. Moreover, under certain types of potential functions, we establish the refined blow-up profiles of corresponding ground states. In particular, we show that the ground states concentrate at the flattest global minima of potentials.

Finite-time singularity formations for the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation in dimension two

We construct finite time blow-up solutions to the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation (LLG) from ${\mathbb R}^2$ into $S^2$ \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} u_t= a(Δu+|\nabla u|^2u) -b u\wedge Δu &\ \mbox{ in }\ {\mathbb R}^2\times(0,T), u(\cdot,0) = u_0\in S^2 &\ \mbox{ in }\ {\mathbb R}^2, \end{cases} \end{equation*} where $a^2+b^2=1,~a > 0,~ b\in {\mathbb R}$. Given any prescribed $N$ points in $\mathbb{R}^2$ and small $T>0$, we prove that there exists regular initial data such that the solution blows up precisely at these points at finite time $t=T$, taking around each point the profile of sharply scaled degree 1 harmonic map with the type II blow-up speed \begin{equation*} \| \nabla u\|_{L^\infty } \sim \frac{|\ln(T-t)|^2}{ T-t } \ \mbox{ as } \ t\to T. \end{equation*} The proof is based on the {\em parabolic inner-outer gluing method}, developed in \cite{17HMF} for Harmonic Map Flow (HMF). However, a direct consequence of the presence of dispersion is the {\em lack of maximum principle} for suitable quantities, which makes the analysis more delicate even at the linearized level. To overcome this difficulty, we make use of two key technical ingredients: first, for the inner problem we employ the tool of {\em distorted Fourier transform}, as developed by Krieger, Miao, Schlag and Tataru \cite{Krieger09Duke,KMS20WM}. Second, the linear theory for the outer problem is achieved by means of the sub-Gaussian estimate for the fundamental solution of parabolic system in non-divergence form with coefficients of Dini mean oscillation in space ($\mathsf{DMO_x}$), which was proved by Dong, Kim and Lee \cite{dong22-non-divergence} recently.

Stable solutions of $U(1)$ Yang-Mills-Higgs model in $\mathbb{R}^4$

We give a positive answer to the conjecture of Liu-Ma-Wei-Wu in \cite{LMWW} that the family of entire solutions to the $U(1)$-Yang-Mills-Higgs equation constructed by the gluing method in that paper are stable. This is the first family of examples of nontrivial stable critical points to the $U(1)$-Yang-Mills-Higgs model in higher dimensional Euclidean space. Intuitively, the stability of these solutions corresponds to the fact that holomorphic curves are area-minimizing. We also show that these entire solutions are non-degenerate. Our proof is based on detailed analysis of the linearized operators around this family and the spectrum estimates of the Jacobi operator by Arezzo-Pacard \cite{ArePac}.

Laplacian Vanishing Theorem for Quantized Singular Liouville Equation

In this article we establish a vanishing theorem for singular Liouville equation with quantized singular source. If a blowup sequence tends to infinity near a quantized singular source and the blowup solutions violate the spherical Harnack inequality around the singular source (non-simple blow-ups), the Laplacian of a coefficient function must tend to zero. This seems to be the first second order estimates for Liouville equation with quantized sources and non-simple blow-ups. This result as well as the key ideas of the proof would be extremely useful for various applications.

A Remark On Case-Gursky-Vétois identity and its applications

Based on the works of Gursky (CMP, 1997), Vétois (Potential Anal., 2023) and Case (Crelle's journal, 2024), we make use of an Obata type formula established in these works to obtain some Liouville type theorems on conformally Einstein manifolds. In particular, we solve Hang-Yang conjecture (IMRN, 2020) via an Obata-type argument and obtain optimal perturbation.

Localized patterns in the Gierer Meinhardt model on a cycle graph

In this study, we provide a detailed analysis of the spike solutions and their stability for theGierer-Meinhardt model on discrete lattices. We explore several phenomena that have no analogues in the continuum limit. For example in the discrete case, the system retains spike patterns even when diffusion of the activator is set to zero. In this limit, we derive a simplified algebraic system to determine the presence of a K-spike solution. The stability of this solution is determined by a K by K matrix. We further delve into the scenarios where K = 2 and K = 3, revealing the existence of stable asymmetric spike patterns. Our stability analysis indicates that the symmetric two-spike solution is the most robust. Furthermore, we demonstrate that symmetric K-spike solutions are locally the most stable configurations. Additionally, we explore spike solutions under conditions where the inhibitor's diffusion rate is not significantly large. In doing so, we uncover zigzag and mesa patterns that do not occur in the continuous system. Our findings reveal that the discrete lattices support a greater variety of stable patterns for the Gierer-Meinhardt model.

On Non-simple blowup solutions of Liouville equation

For Liouville equation with quantized singular sources, the non-simple blowup phenomenon has been a major difficulty for years. It was conjectured by the first two authors that the non-simple blowup phenomenon does not occur if the equation is defined on the unit ball with Dirichlet boundary condition. In this article we not only completely settle this conjecture in its entirety, but also extend our result to cover any bounded domain. Since the main theorem in this article rules out the non-simple phenomenon in commonly observed applications, it may pave the way for advances in degree counting programs, uniqueness of blowup solutions and construction of solutions, etc.

High Order Vanishing Theorems for Nonsimple Blowup Solutions of Singular Liouville Equation

For a singular Liouville equation, it is plausible that a non-simple blowup phenomenon occurs around a quantized singular pole. The presence of complex blowup profiles of bubbling solutions presents substantial challenges in applications. In this article, we demonstrate that under natural assumptions, non-simple blowup takes place only when the derivatives of certain coefficient functions approach zero. Our main result encompasses all previous findings and determines the vanishing order for any specific quantized singular source. Our theorems can be utilized not only to eliminate multiple non-simple blowup scenarios in applications but also to investigate blowup solutions with moving poles.

Critical Mass Phenomena and Blow-up behavior of Ground States in stationary second order Mean-Field Games systems with decreasing cost

This paper is devoted to the study of Mean-field Games (MFG) systems in the mass critical exponent case. We firstly establish the optimal Gagliardo-Nirenberg type inequality associated with the potential-free MFG system. Then, under some mild assumptions on the potential function, we show that there exists a critical mass $M^*$ such that the MFG system admits a least energy solution if and only if the total mass of population density $M$ satisfies $M<M^*$. Moreover, the blow-up behavior of energy minimizers are captured as $M\nearrow M^*$. In particular, given the precise asymptotic expansions of the potential, we establish the refined blow-up behavior of ground states as $M\nearrow M^*.$ While studying the existence of least energy solutions, we establish new local $W^{2,p}$ estimates of solutions to Hamilton-Jacobi equations with superlinear gradient terms.
