Classification of fractional, singular Yamabe metrics on a twice punctured sphere I

The Delaunay metrics form a family of conformally flat, constant fractional Q-curvature metrics on a twice-punctured sphere. They are all (after a Möbius transformation) rotationally symmetric and periodic, and admit several elegant variational descriptions. We prove that, when s is close to but less than 1, any complete, conformally flat constant Q-curvature metric on a twice-punctured sphere is a Delaunay metric. Along the way, we prove a sharp a priori bound for the conformal factor of these metrics, which may be of independent interest.

Finite time blow up solutions for heat equations with Neumann boundary conditions on $\mathbb{R}_{+}^{4}$

We consider the nonlinear heat equations with Neumann boundary conditions $$ \begin{cases} u_{t}=Δu & \text{in}\ \mathbb{R}_{+}^{4} \times(0, T) ,\\ -\frac{d u}{d x_{4}}(\tilde{x}, 0, t) \ =u^2(\tilde{x}, 0, t)& \text{in}\ \mathbb{R}^{3} \times(0, T). \end{cases} $$ We establish the existence of a finite-time blow-up solution. Specifically, for any sufficiently small $T>0$ and any $k$ distinct points $q_{1},\dots,q_{k}\in \mathbb{R}^{3}$, there exists an initial datum $u_{0}$ such that the corresponding solution $u(x,t)$ blows up exactly at $q_{1},\dots,q_{k}$ as $t\nearrow T$. Furthermore, when $t\nearrow T$, the solution admits the asymptotic profile $$u(x,t)=\sum_{j=1}^{k}U_{μ_{j}(t),ξ_{j}(t)}(x)+Z_0^*(x)+o(1)\quad \text{as}~ t\nearrow T,$$ where $$U_{μ_{j}(t),ξ_{j}(t)}(x):=μ_{j}^{-1}(t) U\left(\frac{x-ξ_{j}(t)}{μ_{j}(t)}\right),~ x\in \mathbb{R}_{+}^{4},$$ and $Z_{0}^{*}\in C_{0}^{\infty}(\mathbb{R}_{+}^{4})$ satisfying $$Z_{0}^{*}(q_{j},0)<0\quad \text{for all}\ j=1,\dots,k.$$ Here, $U(y)$ denotes the harmonic extension to $\mathbb{R}_{+}^{4}$ of the positive radially symmetric solution $\widetilde{U}$ to the fractional Yamabe problem $(-Δ)^{\frac{1}{2}} \widetilde{U} = \widetilde{U}^{2}$ in $\mathbb{R}^{3}$. For some constants $β_{j}>0$, the scaling parameters $μ{j}(t)$ and the translation parameters $ξ_{j}(t)$ satisfy $$μ_{j}(t)=β_{j}\frac{|\log 2T|(T-t)}{|\log(T-t)|^{2}}(1 + o(1)) \to 0,~ξ_{j}(t)\to (q_{j},0)\quad \text{as} ~t\nearrow T.$$

Stability of Solitary Capillary-Gravity Water Waves in Three Dimensions

This paper establishes the conditional orbital stability of fully localized solitary waves for the three-dimensional capillary-gravity water wave problem in finite depth under strong surface tension. The waves, constructed via a non-variational Lyapunov-Schmidt reduction in [26], are not energy minimizers and thus require a direct stability analysis. We adapt the Grillakis-Shatah-Strauss framework within Mielke's approach to handle the mismatch between well-posedness and energy spaces. The proof relies on spectral analysis of the linearized dynamics and careful treatment of the Hamiltonian structure defined by the energy and momentum functionals.

On geometry of $Q^{(2k)}_g$-curvature

The main purpose of current article is to study the geometry of $Q$-curvature. For simplicity, we start with a simple model: a complete and conformal metric $g=e^{2u}|dx|^2$ on $\mathbb{R}^n$. Assuming that the metric $g$ has non-negative $nth$-order $Q$-curvature and non-negative scalar curvature, we show that the Ricci curvature is non-negative. If we further assume that the isoperimetric ratio near the end is positive, we show that the growth rate of $kth$ elementary symmetric function $σ_k(g)$ of Ricci curvature over geodesic ball of radius $r$ is at most polynomial in $r$ with order $n-2k$ for all $1 \leq k \leq \frac{n-2}{2}$. Similarly, we are able to show that the same growth control holds for $2kth$-order $Q$-curvature. Finally, we show that for $k=1$ or $2$, the gap theorems for $Q^{(2k)}_g$ hold true.

Infinitely many solutions for the prescribed scalar curvature problem with volcano-like curvature

In this paper, we consider the following prescribed scalar curvature problem: \begin{equation*} -Δu = K(x) u^{\frac{n+2}{n-2}}, \quad u>0\quad\hbox{in}\quad \mathbb{R}^n, \quad u \in D^{1,2}(\mathbb{R}^n), \end{equation*} where $K(x)$ is a volcano-like positive function such that $$ K(x)= K(r_0)- c_0 | |x|- r_0|^m + O( | |x|- r_0|^{m+θ}),\quad r_0- δ<|x| 0, θ>2, \min \{\frac{n-2}{2}, 2\} < m< n-2$. We first prove the existence of infinitely many positive solutions. A consequence of our proof yields that the infinitely many solutions constructed in \cite{WY} are non-degenerate in the whole $D^{1, 2}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$ space. To our knowledge, it seems to be the first result of infinitely many solutions of prescribed scalar curvature problem when the potential function $K(x)$ is not radial. Our non-degeneracy results are also more complete and improve the result in \cite{GMPS}.

Classification and qualitative properties of positive solutions to double-power nonlinear stationary Schrödinger equations

In this paper, we investigate positive radial solutions to double-power nonlinear stationary Schrodinger equations in three space dimensions. It is now known that the non-uniqueness of H^{1}-positive solutions can occur in three dimensions when the frequency is sufficiently small. Under suitable conditions, in addition to the ground state solution (whose L^{\infty} norm vanishes as the frequency tends to zero), there exists another positive solution that minimizes a different constrained variational problem, with an L^{\infty} norm diverging as the frequency tends to zero (see Theorem 1.4). We classify all positive solutions with small frequency into two categories: the ground state and the Aubin-Talenti type solution. As a consequence, we establish the multiplicity of positive solutions. Finally, we also examine the non-degeneracy and Morse index of each positive solution.

On a new region for the Lane-Emden conjecture in higher dimensions

We study the Lane-Emden conjecture, which asserts the non-existence of non-trivial, non-negative solutions to the Lane-Emden system \[ -Δu = v^p, \quad -Δv = u^q, \quad x \in \mathbb{R}^n\] in the subcritical regime. By employing an Obata-type integral inequality, Picone's identity, and exploiting the scaling invariance of the system, we prove that the conjecture holds for any dimension $n \geq 5$ and exponents satisfying $p\geq 1,q\geq 1$, and \[ \frac{1}{p+1} + \frac{1}{q+1} \geq 1 - \frac{2}{n} + \frac{4}{n^2}. \]

A general nonuniqueness result for Yamabe-type problems for conformally variational Riemannian invariants

Given a conformally variational scalar Riemannian invariant $I$, we identify a sufficient condition for a compact Riemannian manifold to admit finite regular coverings with many nonhomothetic conformal rescalings with $I$ constant. We also identify a sufficient condition for the universal cover to admit infinitely many geometrically distinct periodic conformal rescalings with $I$ constant. Using these conditions, we improve known nonuniqueness results for the $Q$-curvatures of orders two, four, and six, and establish nonuniqueness results for higher-order $Q$-curvatures and renormalized volume coefficients.

Nonhomothetic complete periodic metrics with constant scalar curvature

We show that there are infinitely many pairwise nonhomothetic, complete, periodic metrics with constant scalar curvature that are conformal to the round metric on $S^n\setminus S^k$, where $k < \frac{n-2}{2}$. These metrics are obtained by pulling back Yamabe metrics defined on products of $S^{n-k-1}$ and compact hyperbolic $(k+1)$-manifolds. Our main result proves that these solutions are generically distinct up to homothety. The core of our argument relies on classical rigidity theorems due to Obata and Ferrand, which characterize the round sphere by its conformal group.

On Brezis-Nirenberg problems: open questions and new results in dimension six

In this paper, we consider the Brezis-Nirenberg problem \begin{equation*} \left\{\begin{aligned} &-Δu = λu+|u|^{2^*-2}u, \quad &\mbox{in}\,Ω,\\ &u=0,\quad &\mbox{on}\, \partialΩ, \end{aligned}\right. \end{equation*} where $Ω$ is a smoothly bounded domain of $\mathbb R^N$ with $N\geq 3$, $λ>0$ is a parameter and $2^*=\frac{2N}{N-2}$ is the critical Sobolev exponent. We first recall the history of the Brezis-Nirenberg problem and then provide new results of it in dimension six. Finally, we also list some open questions on the Brezis-Nirenberg problem.

Global bounded solutions of the 3D Patlak-Keller-Segel-Navier-Stokes system via Couette flow and logistic source

As is well-known, the solutions to the Patlak-Keller-Segel system in 3D may blow up in finite time regardless of any initial cell mass. In this paper, we investigate the existence of global bounded solutions of the 3D Patlak-Keller-Segel-Navier-Stokes system with a large initial cell mass via Couette flow or logistic source in a finite channel. On the one hand, it is proved that as long as the Couette flow is strong enough and the initial velocity is small, the bounded solutions of the system are global in time without any limitation on the initial mass $M$ if the logistic source term exists. On the other hand, if the logistic source term vanishes, it is proved that as long as the Couette flow is strong enough and the initial velocity is small, the solutions with a finite initial mass $M$, whose lower bound is $ \left(\frac{8π}{9}\right)^-$, are global in time.

Compactness and non-compactness theorems of the fourth- and sixth-order constant $Q$-curvature problems

We provide a complete resolution to the question of compactness for the full solution sets of the fourth-order and sixth-order constant $Q$-curvature problems on smooth closed Riemannian manifolds not conformally diffeomorphic to the standard unit $n$-sphere, provided the associated conformally covariant differential operator has a positive Green's function. Firstly, we prove that the solution set of the fourth-order constant $Q$-curvature problem is $C^4$-compact in dimensions $5 \le n \le 24$. For $n \ge 25$, an example of an $L^{\infty}$-unbounded sequence of solutions has been known for over a decade (Wei and Zhao). Additionally, the compactness result for $5 \le n \le 9$ was established by Li and Xiong. Secondly, we demonstrate that the solution set of the sixth-order constant $Q$-curvature problem is $C^6$-compact in dimensions $7 \le n \le 26$, whereas a blow-up example exists for $n \ge 27$. Our main observation is that the linearized equations associated with both $Q$-curvature problems can be transformed into overdetermined linear systems, which admit nontrivial solutions due to unexpected algebraic structures of the Paneitz operator and the sixth-order GJMS operator. This key insight not only plays a crucial role in deducing the compactness result for high-dimensional manifolds, but also reveals an elegant hierarchical pattern with respect to the order of the conformally covariant operators, suggesting the possibility of a unified theory of the compactness of the constant $Q$-curvature problems of all admissible even integer orders.

From KP-I Lump Solution to Travelling wave of 3D Gravity Capillary Water wave problem

In this paper, we study the three-dimensional gravity-capillary water wave problem involving an irrotational, perfect fluid with gravity and surface tension. We focus on steady waves propagating uniformly in one direction. Assuming constant wave speed and water depth, we analyze the fluid's velocity potential and boundary conditions. Using the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP)-I equation as a simplified model, we show that, within a specific parameter range, the problem admits a fully localized solitary-wave solution resemble lump type solutions of the KP-I equation.

A Liouville theorem for supercritical Fujita equation and its applications

We prove a Liouville theorem for ancient solutions to the supercritical Fujita equation \[\partial_tu-Δu=|u|^{p-1}u, \quad -\infty \frac{n+2}{n-2},\] which says if $u$ is close to the ODE solution $u_0(t):=(p-1)^{-\frac{1}{p-1}}(-t)^{-\frac{1}{p-1}}$ at large scales, then it is an ODE solution (i.e. it depends only on $t$). This implies a stability property for ODE blow ups in this problem. As an application of these results, we show that for a suitable weak solution, its singular set at the end time can be decomposed into two parts: one part is relatively open and $(n-1)$-rectifiable, and it is characterized by the property that tangent functions at these points are the two constants $\pm(p-1)^{-\frac{1}{p-1}}$; the other part is relatively closed and its Hausdorff dimension is not larger than $n-\left[2\frac{p+1}{p-1}\right]-1$.

A Lane-Emden system of free boundary type: existence, uniqueness and monotonicity of solutions

We consider a Hamiltonian system of free boundary type, showing first uniform bounds and existence of solutions and of the free boundary. Then, for any smooth and bounded domain, we prove uniqueness of positive solutions in a suitable interval and show that the associated energies and boundary values have a monotonic behavior. Some consequences are discussed about the parametrization of the unbounded Rabinowitz continuum for a class of superlinear strongly coupled elliptic systems.

Classification of singular limits for free boundary and singularly perturbed elliptic problems: the Dancer-Yan spikes revisited

We classify the singular limits relative to a free boundary problem arising in plasma physics in dimension $d=2$, under suitable natural integral bounds. It turns out that one of the asymptotic behaviors allowed corresponds to the Dancer-Yan spikes (J. London Math. Soc. ({\bf 78}) 2008, 639--662). Interestingly enough, roughly speaking and unlike the higher dimensional case, it is not true that any solution in the limit is a Dancer-Yan spike. Indeed, the spiking structure is more rich and we succeed in a detailed description of the singular behavior by a careful analysis, from local to global, of the tiny difference between the maximum value of the spikes and their ``vanishing level'' defining the free boundary.

Sharp quantitative stability estimates for the Brezis-Nirenberg problem

We study the quantitative stability for the classical Brezis-Nirenberg problem associated with the critical Sobolev embedding $H^1_0(Ω) \hookrightarrow L^{\frac{2n}{n-2}}(Ω)$ in a smooth bounded domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ ($n \geq 3$). To the best of our knowledge, this work presents the first quantitative stability result for the Sobolev inequality on bounded domains. A key discovery is the emergence of unexpected stability exponents in our estimates, which arise from the intricate interaction among the nonnegative solution $u_0$ and the linear term $λu$ of the Brezis--Nirenberg equation, bubble formation, and the boundary effect of the domain $Ω$. One of the main challenges is to capture the boundary effect quantitatively, a feature that fundamentally distinguishes our setting from the Euclidean case treated in \cite{CFM, FG, DSW} and the smooth closed manifold case studied in \cite{CK}. In addressing a variety of difficulties, our proof refines and streamlines several arguments from the existing literature while also resolving new analytical challenges specific to our setting.

Symmetry in Serrin-type overdetermined problems

This paper investigates the geometric constraints imposed on a domain by overdetermined problems for partial differential equations. Serrin's symmetry results are extended to overdetermined problems with potentially degenerate ellipticity in nonsmooth bounded domains. Furthermore, analogous symmetry results are established for ring-shaped domains. The proof relies on continuous Steiner symmetrization, along with a carefully constructed approximation argument.
