Dispersion for Schrödinger operators on regular trees

We prove dispersive estimates for two models~: the adjacency matrix on a discrete regular tree, and the Schrödinger equation on a metric regular tree with the same potential on each edge/vertex. The latter model can be thought of as an extension of the case of periodic Schrödinger operators on the real line. We establish a $t^{-3/2}$-decay for both models which is sharp, as we give the first-order asymptotics.

Exact boundary controllability of the linear Biharmonic Schrödinger equation with variable coefficients

In this paper, we study the exact boundary controllability of the linear fourth-order Schrödinger equation, with variable physical parameters and clamped boundary conditions on a bounded interval. The control acts on the first spatial derivative at the left endpoint. We prove that this control system is exactly controllable at any time $T>0$. The proofs are based on a detailed spectral analysis and on the use of nonharmonic Fourier series.

Spectral analysis and stabilization of the dissipative Schrödinger operator on the tadpole graph

We consider the damped Schrödinger semigroup $e^{-it \frac{d^2}{dx^2}}$ on the tadpole graph ${\mathcal R}$. We first give a careful spectral analysis and an appropriate decomposition of the kernel of the resolvent. As a consequence and by showing that the generalized eigenfunctions form a Riesz basis of some subspace of $L^2({\mathcal R})$, we prove that the corresponding energy decay exponentially.

Regularity of the semigroups associated with some damped coupled elastic systems II: a nondegenerate fractional damping case

In this paper, we examine regularity issues for two damped abstract elastic systems; the damping and coupling involve fractional powers $μ, θ$, with $0 \leq μ, θ\leq 1$, of the principal operators. The matrix defining the coupling and damping is nondegenerate. This new work is a sequel to the degenerate case that we discussed recently in \cite{kfl}. First, we prove that for $1/2 \leq μ, θ\leq 1$, the underlying semigroup is analytic. Next, we show that for $\min(μ,θ) \in (0,1/2)$, the semigroup is of certain Gevrey classes. Finally, some examples of application are provided.

Null boundary controllability of a one-dimensional heat equation with internal point masses and variable coefficients

In this paper, we consider a linear hybrid system which is composed of $N+1$ non-homogeneous thin rods connected by $N$ interior-point masses with a Dirichlet boundary condition on the left end, and Dirichlet control on the right end. Using a detailed spectral analysis and the moment theory, we prove that this system is null controllable at any positive time $T$. To this end, firstly, we implement the Wronskian technique to obtain the characteristic equation for the eigenvalues $(λ_{n})_{n\in\N^*}$ associated with this system. Secondly, we provide that the eigenvalues $(λ_{n})_{n\in\N^*}$ interlace those of the $N+1$ decoupled rods with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions, and satisfy the so-called Weyl's asymptotic formula. Finally, we establish sharp asymptotic estimates of the eigenvalues $(λ_{n})_{n\in\N^*}$. As consequence, on one hand, we prove a uniform lower bound for the spectral gap. On another hand, we derive the equivalence between the $\mathcal{H}$-norm of the eigenfunctions and their first derivative at the right end. As an application of our spectral analysis, we also present new controllability result for the Schrödinger equation with an internal point mass and Dirichlet control on the left end.

Resolvent estimates for wave operators in Lipschitz domains

In this paper we study the resolvent of wave operators on open and bounded Lipschitz domains of $\mathbb{R}^N$ with Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions. We give results on existence and estimates of the resolvent for the real and complex cases.

Controllability of periodic bilinear quantum systems on infinite graphs

In this work, we study the controllability of the bilinear Schrödinger equation on infinite graphs for periodic quantum states. We consider the bilinear Schrödinger equation $i\partial_tψ=-Δψ+u(t)Bψ$ in the Hilbert space $L^2_p$ composed by functions defined on an infinite graph $\mathscr{G}$ verifying periodic boundary conditions on the infinite edges. The Laplacian $-Δ$ is equipped with specific boundary conditions, $B$ is a bounded symmetric operator and $u\in L^2((0,T),\mathbb{R})$ with $T>0$. We present the well-posedness of the system in suitable subspaces of $D(|Δ|^{3/2})$ . In such spaces, we study the global exact controllability and we provide examples involving for instance tadpole graphs and star graphs with infinite spokes.

Controllability of localized quantum states on infinite graphs through bilinear control fields

In this work, we consider the bilinear Schrödinger equation $i\partial_tψ=-Δψ+u(t)Bψ$ in the Hilbert space $L^2(\mathcal{G},\mathbb{C})$ with $\mathcal{G}$ an infinite graph. The Laplacian $-Δ$ is equipped with self-adjoint boundary conditions, $B$ is a bounded symmetric operator and $u\in L^2((0,T),\mathbb{R})$ with $T>0$. We study the well-posedness in suitable subspaces of $D(|Δ|^{3/2})$ preserved by the dynamics despite the dispersive behaviour of the equation. In such spaces, we study the global exact controllability and the {\virgolette{energetic controllability}}. We provide examples involving for instance infinite tadpole graphs.

Qualitative and numerical study of the stability of a nonlinear time-delayed dispersive equation

This paper deals with the stability analysis of a nonlinear time-delayed dispersive equation of order four. First, we prove the well-posedness of the system and give some regularity results. Then, we show that the zero solution of the system exponentially converges to zero when the time tends to infinity provided that the time-delay is small and the damping term satisfies reasonable conditions. Lastly, an intensive numerical study is put forward and numerical illustrations of the stability result are provided.

Boundary stabilization of a one-dimensional wave equation by a switching time-delay: a theoretical and numerical study

This paper deals with the boundary stabilization problem of a one-dimensional wave equation with a switching time-delay in the boundary. We show that the problem is well-posed in the sense of semigroups theory of linear operators. Then, we provide a theoretical and numerical study of the exponential stability of the system under an appropriate delay coefficient.

Logarithmic stabilization of an acoustic system with a damping term of Brinkman type

We study the problem of stabilization for the acoustic system with a spatially distributed damping. Without imposing any hypotheses on the structural properties of the damping term, we identify logarithmic decay of solutions with growing time. Logarithmic decay rate is shown by using a frequency domain method and combines a contradiction argument with the multiplier technique and a new Carleman estimate to carry out a special analysis for the resolvent.

Ergodicity effects on transport-diffusion equations with localized damping

The main objective of this paper is to study the time decay of transport-diffusion equation with inhomogeneous localized damping in the multi-dimensional torus. The drift is governed by an autonomous Lipschitz vector field and the diffusion by the standard heat equation with small viscosity parameter $ν$. In the first part we deal with the inviscid case and show some results on the time decay of the energy using in a crucial way the ergodicity and the unique ergodicity of the flow generated by the drift. In the second part we analyze the same problem with small viscosity and provide quite similar results on the exponential decay uniformly with respect to the viscosity in some logarithmic time scaling of the \mbox{type $t\in [0,C_0\ln(1/ν)]$}.

A unified approach to solving some inverse problems for evolution equations by using observability inequalities

We survey some of our recent results on inverse problems for evolution equations. The goal is to provide a unified approach to solve various types of evolution equations. The inverse problems we consider consist in determining unknown coefficients from boundary measurements by varying initial conditions. Based on observability inequalities and a special choice of initial conditions, we provide uniqueness and stability estimates for the recovery of volume and boundary lower order coefficients in wave and heat equations. Some of the results presented here are slightly improved from their original versions.

Comments on observability and stabilization of magnetic Schr{ö}dinger equations

We are mainly interested in extending the known results on ob-servability inequalities and stabilization for the Schr{ö}dinger equation to the magnetic Schr{ö}dinger equation. That is in presence of a magnetic potential. We establish observability inequalities and exponential stabilization by extending the usual multiplier method, under the same geometric condition to that needed for the Schr{ö}dinger equation. We also prove, with the help of elliptic Carleman inequalities, logarithmic stabilization results through a resolvent estimate. Although the approach is classical, these results on logarithmic stabilization seem to be new even for the Schr{ö}dinger equation.

Fractional-feedback stabilization for a class of evolution systems

We study the problem of stabilization for a class of evolution systems with fractional-damping. After writing the equations as an augmented system we prove in this article first that the problem is well posed. Second, using the LaSalle's invariance principle we show that the energy of the system is Strongly stable. Then, based on a resolvent approach we show a luck of uniform stabilization. Next, using multiplier techniques combined with the frequency domain method, we shall give a polynomially stabilization result under some consideration on the stabilization of an auxiliary dissipating system. Finally, we give some applications to the wave equation.

Stabilization for vibrating plate with singular structural damping

We consider the dynamic elasticity equation, modeled by the Euler-Bernoulli plate equation, with a locally distributed singular structural (or viscoelastic ) damping in a boundary domain. Using a frequency domain method combined, based on the Burq's result, combined with an estimate of Carleman type we provide precise decay estimate showing that the energy of the system decays logarithmically as the type goes to the infinity.
