Stabilization of fractional-evolution systems

This paper is devoted to the analysis of the problem of stabilization of fractional (in time) partial differential equations. We consider the following equation $$ \partial^{α,η}_{t} u(t)=\mathcal{A}u(t)-\fracη{Γ(1-α)}\int_{0}^{t}(t-s)^{-α} \, e^{-η(t-s)}u(s)\, ds,\; t > 0, $$ with the initial data $u(0)=u^{0}$, where $\mathcal{A}$ is a unbounded operator in Hilbert space and $\partial_{t}^{α,η}$ stands for the fractional derivative. We provide two main results concerning the behavior of the solutions when $t\longrightarrow+\infty$. We look first to the case $η>0$ where we prove that the solution of this problem is exponential stable then we consider the case $η=0$ when we prove under some consideration on the resolvent that the energy of the solution goes to $0$ as $t$ goes to the infinity as $1/t^α$.

On Weak Observability For Evolution Systems with Skew-Adjoint Generators

In the paper we consider the linear inverse problem that consists in recovering the initial state in a first order evolution equation generated by a skew-adjoint operator. We studied the well-posedness of the inversion in terms of the observation operator and the spectra of the skew-adjoint generator. The stability estimate of the inversion can also be seen as a weak observability inequality. The proof of the main results is based on a new resolvent inequality and Fourier transform techniques which are of interest themselves.

Stabilization for the wave equation with singular Kelvin-Voigt damping

We consider the wave equation with Kelvin-Voigt damping in a bounded domain. The exponential stability result proposed by Liu and Rao or Tébou for that system assumes that the damping is localized in a neighborhood of the whole or a part of the boundary under some consideration. In this paper we propose to deal with this geometrical condition by considering a singular Kelvin-Voigt damping which is localized faraway from the boundary. In this particular case it was proved by Liu and Liu the lack of the uniform decay of the energy. However, we show that the energy of the wave equation decreases logarithmically to zero as time goes to infinity. Our method is based on the frequency domain method. The main feature of our contribution is to write the resolvent problem as a transmission system to which we apply a specific Carleman estimate.

Further results on the asymptotic behavior of a 2D overhead crane with input delays: Exponential convergence

This article is concerned with the asymptotic behavior of a 2D overhead crane. Taking into account the presence of a delay in the boundary, and assuming that no displacement term appears in the system, a distributed (interior) damping feedback law is proposed in order to compensate the effect of the delay. Then, invoking the frequency domain method, the solutions of the closed-loop system are proved to converge exponentially to a stationary position. This improves the recent result obtained by Al-Musallam-Ammari-Chentouf, where the rate of convergence is at most of polynomial type.

Note on exponential and polynomial convergence for a delayed wave equation without displacement

This note places primary emphasis on improving the asymptotic behavior of a multi-dimensional delayed wave equation in the absence of any displacement term. In the first instance, the delay is assumed to occur in the boundary. Then, invoking a geometric condition BLR on the domain, the exponential convergence of solutions to their equilibrium state is proved. The strategy adopted of the proof is based on an interpolation inequality combined with a resolvent method. In turn, an internal delayed wave equation is considered in the second case, where the domain possesses trapped ray and hence (BLR) geometric condition does not hold. In such a situation polynomial convergence results are established. These finding improve earlier results of Ammari-Chentouf and Phung.

Stability of the wave equations on a tree with local Kelvin-Voigt damping

In this paper we study the stability problem of a tree of elastic strings with local Kelvin-Voigt damping on some of the edges. Under the compatibility condition of displacement and strain and continuity condition of damping coefficients at the vertices of the tree, exponential/polynomial stability are proved.

The Green function for waves on the $2$-regular Bethe lattice

In this paper, we compute an explicit analytic expression for the Green function of the wave operator on the $2$-regular lattice called the "Bethe lattice" equipped with its standard metric. In particular, we exhibit a phenomena of abnormal speed of propagation for waves: the effective speed of propagation of energy for large time is $c_*=2\sqrt 2/3 <1$, and there exists a true propagation at any speed $c<c_*$.

Stabilization of the wave equation with moving boundary

We deal with the wave equation with assigned moving boundary ($0<x<a(t)$) upon which Dirichlet-Neuman boundary conditions are satisfied, here $a(t)$ is assumed to move slower than the light and periodically. We give a feedback which guarantees the exponential decay of the energy. The proof relies on a reduction theorem of Yoccoz. At the end we give a remark on the moving-pointwise stabilization problem.

Asymptotic behavior of a delayed wave equation without displacement term

This paper is dedicated to the investigation of the asymptotic behavior of a delayed wave equation without the presence of any position term. First, it is shown that the problem is well-posed in the sense of semigroups theory. Thereafter, LaSalle's invariance principle is invoked in order to establish the asymptotic convergence for the solutions of the system to a stationary position which depends on the initial data. More importantly, without any geometric condition such as BLR condition in the control zone, the logarithmic convergence is proved by using an interpolation inequality combined with a resolvent method.

Asymptotic analysis of a 2D overhead crane with input delays in the boundary control

The paper investigates the asymptotic behavior of a 2D overhead crane with input delays in the boundary control. A linear boundary control is proposed. The main feature of such a control lies in the facts that it solely depends on the velocity but under the presence of time-delays. We end-up with a closed-loop system where no displacement term is involved. It is shown that the problem is well-posed in the sense of semigroups theory. LaSalle's invariance principle is invoked in order to establish the asymptotic convergence for the solutions of the system to a stationary position which depends on the initial data. Using a resolvent method it is proved that the convergence is indeed polynomial.

Interior feedback stabilization of wave equations with dynamic boundary delay

In this paper we consider an interior stabilization problem for the wave equation with dynamic boundary delay. We prove some stability results under the choice of damping operator. The proof of the main result is based on a frequency domain method and combines a contradiction argument with the multiplier technique to carry out a special analysis for the resolvent.

Feedback stabilization of a simplified model of fluid-structure interaction on a tree

In this paper we study the dynamic feedback stability for a simplified model of fluid-structure interaction on a tree. We prove that, under some conditions, the energy of the solutions of the system decay exponentially to zero when the time tends to infinity. Our technique is based on a frequency domain method and a special analysis for the resolvent.

Stability of a tree-shaped network of strings and beams

In this paper we study the stability of a tree-shaped network of elastic strings and beams with some feedbacks at the ends. The whole system is asymptotically stable. Moreover, the energy of the solution decay exponentially to zero if there is no beam following a string ( from the root to the leaves) and decay polynomially if not. We use a frequency domain method from the semigroups theory.

Dispersive effects for the Schrödinger equation on a tadpole graph

We consider the free Schrödinger group $e^{-it \frac{d^2}{dx^2}}$ on a tadpole graph ${\mathcal R}$. We first show that the time decay estimates $L^1 ({\mathcal R}) \rightarrow L^\infty ({\mathcal R})$ is in $|t|^{-\frac12}$ with a constant independent of the length of the circle. Our proof is based on an appropriate decomposition of the kernel of the resolvent. Further we derive a dispersive perturbation estimate, which proves that the solution on the queue of the tadpole converges uniformly, after compensation of the underlying time decay, to the solution of the Neumann half-line problem, as the circle shrinks to a point. To obtain this result, we suppose that the initial condition fulfills a high frequency cutoff.
