Orbital Angular Momentum embedded Einstein Podolsky Rosen Entanglement Generated from Cold Atoms

The Einstein Podolsky Rosen (EPR) entangled quantum state is of special importance not only for fundamental research in quantum mechanics, but also for information processing in the field of quantum information. Previous EPR entangled state demonstrations were constructed with photons of equal phase wave fronts. More complex scenarios with structured wave fronts have not been investigated. Here, we report the first experimental demonstration of EPR entanglement for photon pairs carrying orbital angular momentum (OAM) information, resulting in an OAM embedded EPR entangled state. We measured the dynamics of the dependence of the ghost interference on relative phase under projection. In addition, the reconstructed matrix in the OAM and EPR position momentum spaces shows a specific hyper entanglement in high dimension.

Spectral photonic lattices with complex long-range coupling

We suggest and experimentally realize a spectral photonic lattice - a signal can hop between discrete frequency channels, driven by nonlinear interaction with stronger pump lasers. By controlling the complex envelope and frequency separations of multiple pumps, it is possible to introduce non- local hopping and to break time-reversal symmetry, which opens up new possibilities for photonic quantum simulation. As two examples, we observe a spectral quantum walk and demonstrate the discrete Talbot effect in the spectral domain, where we find novel instances containing asymmetry and periodicities not possible in spatial lattices.

Probing Surface Quantum Flows in Deformed Pygmy Dipole Modes

In order to explore the nature of collective modes in weakly bound nuclei, we have investigated deformation effects and surface flow patterns of isovector dipole modes in a shape-coexisting nucleus $^{40}$Mg. The calculations were done in a fully self-consistent continuum finite-amplitude Quasiparticle Random Phase Approximation (QRPA) in a large deformed spatial mesh. An unexpected result of pygmy and giant dipole modes having disproportionate deformation splittings in strength functions was obtained. Furthermore, the transition current densities demonstrate that the long-sought core-halo oscillation in pygmy resonances is collective and compressional, corresponding to the lowest excitation energy and the simplest quantum flow topology. Our calculations show that surface flow patterns become more complicated as excitation energies increase.

Almost Sure and Moment Exponential Stability of Regime-Switching Jump Diffusions

This work is devoted to almost sure and moment exponential stability of regime-switching jump diffusions. The Lyapunov function method is used to derive sufficient conditions for stabilities for general nonlinear systems; which further helps to derive easily verifiable conditions for linear systems. For one-dimensional linear regime-switching jump diffusions, necessary and sufficient conditions for almost sure and $p$th moment exponential stabilities are presented. Several examples are provided for illustration.

Unraveling Energetic Disorder in Organic Bulk Heterojunction Photovoltaics by Capacitance-Voltage Spectroscopy

Organic semiconductors possess an intrinsic energetic disorder characteristic, which holds an exceptionally important role for understanding organic photovoltaic (OPV) operation and future optimization. We performed illumination intensity dependence of capacitance-voltage (C-V) measurements in PIDTDTQx:PC70BM based organic bulk heterojunction (BHJ) photovoltaics in working conditions. Energetic disorder profiles for the photo-active layer, PIDTDTQx:PC70BM, changed significantly when different interfaces were involved. The effects of energetic disorder that could be reflected from C-V profiles are incorporated through an exponential or Gaussian model of density of states (DOS), or a combination of these two. Results underlie that an identical organic blend in BHJ solar cells exhibits different energetic disorder when it interacts with various interfaces. It may, thus, has a certain impact on OPV performances, such as open-circuit voltage (V_oc ). Our study provides device physicists a different perspective view for tailoring the organic energetic disorder parameter via interfaces in order to enhance photo-electron conversion efficiencies (PCE).

All-optical logic gates in Stub photonic lattices

We experimentally study a Stub photonic lattice and excite their localized linear states originated from an isolated Flat Band at the center of the linear spectrum. By exciting these modes in different regions of the lattice, we observe that they do not diffract across the system and remain well trapped after propagating along the crystal. By using their wave nature, we are able to combine -- in phase and out of phase -- two neighbor states into a coherent superposition. These observations allow us to propose a novel setup for performing three different all-optical logical operations such as OR, AND, and XOR, positioning Flat Band systems as key setups to perform concrete applications at any level of power.

On-chip multiplexed multiple entanglement sources in a single silicon nanowire

Silicon-on-chip (SOI) photonic circuit is the most promising platform for scalable quantum information technology for its low loss, small footprint, CMOS-compatible and telecom communications techniques compatible. Multiple multiplexed entanglement sources include: energy-time, time-bin and polarization entangled sources based on 1-cm length single silicon nanowire, all these sources are compatible with (100GHz) dense-wave-division-multiplexing (DWDM) system. Different methods such as two photon interference pattern, Bell-Inequality and quantum state tomography are used to characterize the quality of these entangled sources. Multiple entanglements are generated over more than 5 channel pairs with high raw (net) visibilities around 97% (100%). The emission spectral brightness of these entangled sources reaches 4.2*105 /(s.nm.mW). The quality of the photon pair generated in continuous and pulse pump regimes are compared. High qualities of these multiplexed entanglement sources make them very promising to be used in future minimized quantum communication and computation systems.

Revealing two heat-annealing related photoproduct systems and widely existed subgrain domains in organolead perovskite

For highly interested organolead perovskite based solar cells, the photoproducts are regarded as the co-existed exciton and free carriers. In this study, we carefully re-examined this conclusion with our recently developed density-resolved spectroscopic method. Heat-annealing related two photoproduct systems are observed. We found that the widely accepted model is only true for single crystal and freshly made films without heat-annealing. For those sufficiently heat-annealed films, another system presenting significant emissive exciton-carrier collision (ECC) is discovered. In addition, the appearing of ECC indicates the emerging of an internal morphology after heat annealing, which is assigned to a recently discussed twinning subgrain structure. We proved that such subgrain structures broadly exist in perovskite films. This finding could prove the morphological basis for high performance of perovskite working layers.

Non-reciprocal geometric phase in nonlinear frequency conversion

We describe analytically and numerically the geometric phase arising from nonlinear frequency conversion and show that such a phase can be made non-reciprocal by momentum-dependent photonic transition. Such non-reciprocity is immune to the shortcomings imposed by dynamic reciprocity in Kerr and Kerr-like devices. We propose a simple and practical implementation, requiring only a single waveguide and one pump, while the geometric phase is controllable by the pump and promises robustness against fabrication errors.

Collider Phenomenology of $e^{-}e^{-}\to W^{-}W^{-}$

Whether in nature exists Majorana neutrino is one of the most fundamental questions in physics. It is directly related to the violation of accidental $U(1)$-lepton number symmetry(LNV). Enormous efforts had been put into such test and among them, one conventional experiment is the neutrinoless double-beta decay ($0νββ$). On the other hand, there have been proposals of future electron-positron colliders such as International Linear Collider (ILC) for precision measurements of Higgs boson or new discovered beyond SM particles and it can potentially be converted into an electron-electron collider. Such collider enables a new probe of Majorana neutrino via the inverse $0νββ$ process($e^{-}e^{-}\to W^- W^-$) as an alternative and complementary test to the conventional neutrinoless double-beta decay experiments. In this paper, we illustrate the searching strategies of $e^{-}e^{-}\to W^- W^-$ at future electron colliders, and find that the channels of pure hadronic, semi-leptonic with muon and pure leptonic with muons have the most discovery potential.

Neutrino Production in Electromagnetic Cascades: An extra component of cosmogenic neutrino at ultrahigh energies

Muon pairs can be produced in the annihilation of ultra-high energy (UHE, $E \gtrsim 10^{18} \,\mathrm{eV}$) photons with low energy cosmic background radiation in the intergalactic space, giving birth to neutrinos. Although the branching ratio of muon pair production is low, products of other channels, which are mainly electron/positron pairs, will probably transfer most of their energies into the new generated UHE photon in the subsequent interaction with the cosmic background radiation via Compton scattering in deep Klein-Nishina regime. The regeneration of these new UHE photons then provides a second chance to produce the muon pairs, enhancing the neutrino flux. We investigate the neutrino production in the propagation of UHE photons in the intergalactic space at different redshifts, considering various competing processes such as pair production, double pair production for UHE photons, and triplet production and synchrotron radiation for UHE electrons. Regarding the least energetic outgoing particles as energy loss, we obtain the effective penetration length of the leading particle, as well as energy loss rate including the neutrino emission rate in the cascade process. Finally, we find that an extra component of UHE neutrinos will arise from the propagation of UHE cosmic rays due to the generated UHE photons and electron/positrons. However, the flux of this component is quite small, with a flux of at most $10\%$ of that of the conventional cosmogenic neutrino at a few EeV, in the absence of a strong intergalactic magnetic field and a strong cosmic radio background. The precise contribution of extra component depends on several factors, e.g., cosmic radio background, intergalactic magnetic field, the spectrum of proton, which will be discussed in this work.

Efficient Counting of Degree Sequences

Novel dynamic programming algorithms to count the set $D(n)$ of zero-free degree sequences of length $n$, the set $D_c(n)$ of degree sequences of connected graphs on $n$ vertices and the set $D_b(n)$ of degree sequences of biconnected graphs on $n$ vertices exactly are presented. They are all based on a recurrence of Barnes and Savage and shown to run in polynomial time and are asymptotically much faster than the previous best known algorithms for these problems. These appear to be the first polynomial time algorithms to compute $|D(n)|$, $|D_c(n)|$ and $|D_b(n)|$ to the author's knowledge and have enabled us to tabulate them up to $n=118$, the majority of which were unknown. The available numerical results of $|D(n)|$ tend to give more supporting evidence of a conjecture of Gordon F. Royle about the limit of $|D(n)|/|D(n-1)|$. The OEIS entries that can be computed by algorithms in this paper are A004251, A007721, A007722 and A095268.

Multi-configuration Dirac-Hartree-Fock calculations of forbidden transitions within the 3d^k ground configurations of highly charged ions (Z=72-83)

Extensive self-consistent multi-configuration Dirac-Hartree-Fock (MCDHF) calculations are performed for the $3s^2 3p^6 3d^k$ ($k=1-9$) ground configurations of highly charged ions ($Z=72-83$). Complete and consistent data sets of \textbf{excitation energies}, wavelengths, line strengths, oscillator strengths, and magnetic dipole (M1) and electric quadrupole (E2) transition rates among all these levels are given. We have compared our results with the results available in the literature and the accuracy of the data is assessed. We predict new energy levels and transition probabilities where no other experimental or theoretical results are available, which will form the basis for future experimental work.

Thermal gravitational-wave background in the general pre-inflationary scenario

We investigate the primordial gravitational waves (PGWs) in the general scenario where the inflation is preceded by a pre-inflationary stage with the effective equation of state $w$. Comparing with the results in the usual inflationary models, the power spectrum of PGWs is modified in two aspects: One is the mixture of the perturbation modes caused by he presence of the pre-inflationary period, and the other is the thermal initial state formed at the Planck era of the early Universe. By investigating the observational imprints of these modifications on the B-mode polarization of cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation, we obtain the constraints on the conformal temperature of the thermal gravitational-wave background $T<5.01\times 10^{-4}$Mpc$^{-1}$ and a tensor-to-scalar ratio $r<0.084$ ($95\%$ confident level), which follows the bounds on total number of e-folds $N>63.5$ for the model with $w=1/3$, and $N>65.7$ for that with $w=1$. By taking into account various noises and the foreground radiations, we forecast the detection possibility of the thermal gravitational-wave background by the future CMBPol mission, and find that if $r>0.01$, the detection is possible as long as $T>1.5\times 10^{-4}$Mpc$^{-1}$. However, the effect of different $w$ is quite small, and it seems impossible to determine its value from the potential observations of CMBPol mission.

Reproducibility of Retinal Thickness Measurements across Spectral-Domain Optical Coherence Tomography Devices using Iowa Reference Algorithm

PURPOSE: Establishing and obtaining consistent quantitative indices of retinal thickness from a variety of clinically used Spectral-Domain Optical Coherence Tomography scanners. DESIGN: Retinal images from five Spectral-Domain Optical Coherence Tomography scanners were used to determine total retinal thickness with scanner-specific correction factors establishing consistency of thickness measurement across devices. PARTICIPANTS: 55 Fovea-centered Spectral-Domain Optical Coherence Tomography volumes from eleven subjects were analyzed, obtained from Cirrus HD-OCT, RS-3000, Heidelberg Spectralis, RTVue and Topcon2000, seven subjects with retinal diseases and four normal controls. METHOD: The Iowa Reference Algorithm measured total retinal thickness. Nonlinear model of total retinal thickness measurement comparisons was derived and used for device-specific comparisons. Bland-Altman plots and pairwise predictive equations yielded pairwise scanner-specific differences. Mendel test determined whether measurement biases were constant for each scanner pair. RESULTS: Mendel test revealed that all pairwise scanner differences of total retinal thickness were constant across the cohort (p=0.992). Individual measurements can thus be bias-corrected and the Iowa Reference Algorithm serve as a scanner-agnostic independent standard of total retinal thickness across the five tested SD-OCT scanners. CONCLUSIONS: Combination of the Iowa Reference Algorithm with scanner-specific bias correction yields cross-scanner consistency of total retinal thickness measurements, facilitating scanning-device independent quantitative assessment of total retinal thickness, longitudinal follow-up quantification without requiring patients to be imaged on the same scanner model, and allowing for multi-center studies with heterogeneous device utilization when using the Iowa Reference Algorithm.

Generation and reverse transformation of twisted light by spatial light modulator

A spatial light modulator (SLM) is one of the most useful and convenient device to generate structural light beams such as twisted light and complexed images used in modern optical science. The unbounded dimension of twisted light makes it promising in harnessing information carrying ability of a single photon, which greatly enhances the channel capacity in optical communications. We perform a detail theoretical study of the birth, evolution and reverse transformation of twisted light generated from a phase-only SLM based on diffraction theory, analytical expressions are obtained to show the special evolution behaviors of the light beam with the propagation distance. Beam intensity distributions calculated theoretically are in well agreement with experimental observations. Our findings clearly reveal how twisted light gradually emerges from a Gaussian spatial shape to a ring shape, and also the ring shape will gradually evolve to a quasi-Gaussian shape conversely, in the reverse transformation. These results will provide guidelines for using SLM in many optical experiments and OAM-mode multiplexing in optical communications.
