Entanglement witnesses from mutually unbiased measurements

A new family of positive, trace-preserving maps is introduced. It is defined using the mutually unbiased measurements, which generalize the notion of mutual unbiasedness of orthonormal bases. This family allows one to define entanglement witnesses whose indecomposability depends on the characteristics of the associated measurement operators.

Non-Markovianity criteria for mixtures of noninvertible Pauli dynamical maps

We analyze the connections between the non-Markovianity degree of the most general phase-damping qubit maps and their legitimate mixtures. Using the results for image non-increasing dynamical maps, we formulate the necessary and sufficient conditions for the Pauli maps to satisfy specific divisibility criteria. Next, we examine how the non-Markovianity properties for (in general noninvertible) Pauli dynamical maps influence the properties of their convex combinations. Our results are illustrated with instructive examples. For P-divisible maps, we propose a legitimate time-local generator whose all decoherence rates are temporarily infinite.

Engineering classical capacity of generalized Pauli channels with admissible memory kernels

We analyze the classical capacity of the generalized Pauli channels generated via the memory kernel master equations. For suitable engineering of the kernel parameters, the evolution with non-local noise effects can produce dynamical maps with higher capacity than the purely Markovian evolution. We provide instructive examples for qubit and qutrit evolution. Interestingly, similar behavior is not observed when analyzing the time-local master equations.

Interpolating between positive and completely positive maps: a new hierarchy of entangled states

A new class of positive maps is introduced. It interpolates between positive and completely positive maps. It is shown that this class gives rise to a new characterization of entangled states. Additionally, it provides a refinement of the well-known classes of entangled states characterized in term of the Schmidt number. The analysis is illustrated with examples of qubit maps.

Markovian semigroup from mixing non-invertible dynamical maps

We analyze the convex combinations of non-invertible generalized Pauli dynamical maps. By manipulating the mixing parameters, one can produce a channel with shifted singularities, additional singularities, or even no singularities whatsoever. In particular, we show how to use non-invertible dynamical maps to produce the Markovian semigroup. Interestingly, the maps whose mixing results in a semigroup are generated by the time-local generators and time-homogeneous memory kernels that are not regular; i.e., their formulas contain infinities. Finally, we show how the generators and memory kernels change after mixing the corresponding dynamical maps.

Geometry of symmetric and non-invertible Pauli channels

We analyze the geometry of positive and completely positive, trace preserving Pauli maps that are fully determined by up to two distinct parameters. This includes five classes of symmetric and non-invertible Pauli channels. Using the Hilbert-Schmidt metric in the space of the Choi-Jamio\lkowski states, we compute the relative volumes of entanglement breaking, time-local generated, and divisible channels. Finally, we find the shapes of the complete positivity regions in relation to the tetrahedron of all Pauli channels.

Generalization of Pauli channels through mutually unbiased measurements

We introduce a new generalization of the Pauli channels using the mutually unbiased measurement operators. The resulting channels are bistochastic but their eigenvectors are not unitary. We analyze the channel properties, such as complete positivity, entanglement breaking, and multiplicativity of maximal output purity. We illustrate our results with the maps constructed from the Gell-Mann matrices and the Heisenberg-Weyl observables.

Quantum evolution with a large number of negative decoherence rates

Non-Markovian effects in quantum evolution appear when the system is strongly coupled to the environment and interacts with it for long periods of time. To include memory effects in the master equations, one usually incorporates time-local generators or memory kernels. However, it turns out that non-Markovian evolution with eternally negative decoherence rates arises from a simple mixture of Markovian semigroups. Moreover, one can have as many as $(d-1)^2$ always negative rates out of $d^2-1$ total, and the quantum evolution is still legitimate.

Geometry of generalized Pauli channels

We analyze the geometry of the generalized Pauli channels constructed from the mutually unbiased bases. The Choi-Jamiołkowski isomorphism allows us to express the Hilbert-Schmidt line and volume elements in terms of the eigenvalues of the generalized Pauli maps. After determining appropriate regions of integration, we analytically compute the volume of generalized Pauli channels and their important subclasses. In particular, we obtain the volumes of the generalized Pauli channels that can be generated by a legitimate generator and are entanglement breaking. We also provide the upper bound for the volume of positive, trace-preserving generalized Pauli maps.

Geometry of the Pauli maps and Pauli channels

We analyze the geometrical properties of trace-preserving Pauli maps. Using the Choi-Jamio\lkowski isomorphism, we express the Hilbert-Schmidt line and volume elements in terms of the eigenvalues of the Pauli map. We analytically compute the volumes of positive, trace-preserving Pauli maps and Pauli channels. In particular, we find the relative volumes of the entanglement breaking Pauli channels, as well as the channels that can be generated by a time-local generator. Finally, we show what part of the Pauli channels are P and CP-divisible, which is related to the notion of Markovianity.

Geometry on the manifold of Gaussian quantum channels

In the space of quantum channels, we establish the geometry that allows us to make statistical predictions about relative volumes of entanglement breaking channels among all the Gaussian quantum channels. The underlying metric is constructed using the Choi-Jamiołkowski isomorphism between the continuous-variable Gaussian states and channels. This construction involves the Hilbert-Schmidt distance in quantum state space. The volume element of the one-mode Gaussian channels can be expressed in terms of local symplectic invariants. We analytically compute the relative volumes of the one-mode Gaussian entanglement breaking and incompatibility breaking channels. Finally, we show that, when given the purities of the Choi-Jamiołkowski state of the channel, one can determine whether or not such channel is incompatibility breaking.

Classical capacity of the generalized Pauli channels

We calculate and analyze the bounds of the Holevo capacity and classical capacity for the generalized Pauli channels. In particular, we obtain the lower and upper bounds of the Holevo capacity and show that if these bounds coincide, the Holevo capacity is weakly additive. We find the classical capacity for the Pauli channels and two-parameter generalized Pauli channels.

Engineering fidelity of the generalized Pauli channels via legitimate memory kernels

We analyze the fidelity of the generalized Pauli channels governed by memory kernel master equations. It is shown that, by appropriate engineering of parameters of the corresponding memory kernel, the quantum evolution with non-local noise can have higher fidelity than the corresponding purely Markovian evolution governed by the Markovian semigroup. Similar engineering can substantially influence the evolution of quantum entanglement, entropy, and quantum coherence.

Regularized maximal fidelity of the generalized Pauli channels

We consider the asymptotic regularization of the maximal fidelity for the generalized Pauli channels, which is a problem similar to the classical channel capacity. In particular, we find the formulas for the extremal channel fidelities and the maximal output $\infty$-norm. For wide classes of channels, we show that these quantities are multiplicative. Finally, we find the regularized maximal fidelity for the channels satisfying the time-local master eqeuations.

Quantum channels irreducibly covariant with respect to the finite group generated by the Weyl operators

We introduce a class of linear maps irreducibly covariant with respect to the finite group generated by the Weyl operators. This group provides a direct generalization of the quaternion group. In particular, we analyze the irreducibly covariant quantum channels; that is, the completely positive and trace-preserving linear maps. Interestingly, imposing additional symmetries leads to the so-called generalized Pauli channels, which were recently considered in the context of the non-Markovian quantum evolution. Finally, we provide examples of irreducibly covariant positive but not necessarily completely positive maps.

Non-Markovianity of geometrical qudit decoherence

In the following paper, we generalize the geometrical framework of qubit decoherence to higher dimensions. The quantum mixed state is represented by the probability distribution, which is the Kähler function on the projective Hilbert space. The Markovian master equation for density operators turns out to be equivalent to the Fokker-Planck equation for quantum probability distributions. Several examples are analyzed, featuring different generalizations of the Pauli channel.

Memory kernel approach to generalized Pauli channels: Markovian, semi-Markov, and beyond

In this paper, we analyze the evolution of the generalized Pauli channels governed by the memory kernel master equation. We provide necessary and sufficient conditions for the memory kernel to give rise to the legitimate (completely positive and trace-preserving) quantum evolution. In particular, we analyze a class of kernels generating the quantum semi-Markov evolution, which is a natural generalization of the Markovian semigroup. Interestingly, the convex combination of Markovian semigroups goes beyond the semi-Markov case. Our analysis is illustrated with several examples.

Two definitions of the Gell-Mann channels - a comparative analysis

Our goal is to compare two unequivalent definitions of the Gell-Mann channels. It turns out that both definitions coincide for qubits and qutrits. In higher dimensions, there exist some constraints under which the channels describe the same dynamics. Finally, we find the GKSL time-local generators for a class of the Gell-Mann channels.
