A proof of the Faber intersection number conjecture

We prove the famous Faber intersection number conjecture and other more general results by using a recursion formula of $n$-point functions for intersection numbers on moduli spaces of curves. We also present some vanishing properties of Gromov-Witten invariants.

Proof of the Labastida-Marino-Ooguri-Vafa Conjecture

Based on large N Chern-Simons/topological string duality, in a series of papers, J.M.F. Labastida, M. Marino, H. Ooguri and C. Vafa conjectured certain remarkable new algebraic structure of link invariants and the existence of infinite series of new integer invariants. In this paper, we provide a proof of this conjecture. Moreover, we also show these new integer invariants vanish at large genera.

The n-point functions for intersection numbers on moduli spaces of curves

Using the celebrated Witten-Kontsevich theorem, we prove a recursive formula of the $n$-point functions for intersection numbers on moduli spaces of curves. It has been used to prove the Faber intersection number conjecture and motivated us to find some conjectural vanishing identities for Gromov-Witten invariants. The latter has been proved recently by X. Liu and R. Pandharipande. We also give a combinatorial interpretation of $n$-point functions in terms of summation over binary trees.

Intersection numbers and automorphisms of stable curves

Due to the orbifold singularities, the intersection numbers on the moduli space of curves $\bar{\sM}_{g,n}$ are in general rational numbers rather than integers. We study the properties of the denominators of these intersection numbers and their relationship with the orders of automorphism groups of stable curves. In particular, we prove a conjecture of Itzykson and Zuber. We also present a conjectural multinomial type numerical property for Hodge integrals.

Recursion formulae of higher Weil-Petersson volumes

In this paper we study effective recursion formulae for computing intersection numbers of mixed $ψ$ and $κ$ classes on moduli spaces of curves. By using the celebrated Witten-Kontsevich theorem, we generalize Mulase-Safnuk form of Mirzakhani's recursion and prove a recursion formula of higher Weil-Petersson volumes. We also present recursion formulae to compute intersection pairings in the tautological rings of moduli spaces of curves.

Time-periodic universes

In this letter we construct a new time-periodic solution of the vacuum Einstein's field equations whose Riemann curvature norm takes the infinity at some points. We show that this solution is intrinsically time-periodic and describes a time-periodic universe with the "black hole". New physical phenomena are investigated and new singularities are analyzed for this universal model.

Time-Periodic Solutions of the Einstein's Field Equations II

In this paper, we construct several kinds of new time-periodic solutions of the vacuum Einstein's field equations whose Riemann curvature tensors vanish, keep finite or take the infinity at some points in these space-times, respectively. The singularities of these new time-periodic solutions are investigated and some new physical phenomena are found. The applications of these solutions in modern cosmology and general relativity can be expected.

Time-Periodic Solutions of the Einstein's Field Equations

In this paper, we develop a new method to find the exact solutions of the Einstein's field equations by using which we construct time-periodic solutions. The singularities of the time-periodic solutions are investigated and some new physical phenomena, such as the time-periodic event horizon, are found. The applications of these solutions in modern cosmology and general relativity are expected.

Hyperbolic mean curvature flow: Evolution of plane curves

In this paper we investigate the one-dimensional hyperbolic mean curvature flow for closed plane curves. We show that there exists a class of initial velocities such that the solution of the corresponding initial value problem exists only at a finite time interval $[0,T_{\max})$ and when $t$ goes to $T_{\max}$, the solution converges to a point. We also discuss the close relationship between the hyperbolic mean curvature flow and the equations for the evolving relativistic string in the Minkowski space-time $\mathbb{R}^{1,1}$.

The hyperbolic geometric flow on Riemann surfaces

In this paper the authors study the hyperbolic geometric flow on Riemann surfaces. This new nonlinear geometric evolution equation was recently introduced by the first two authors motivated by Einstein equation and Hamilton's Ricci flow. We prove that, for any given initial metric on ${\mathbb{R}}^{2}$ in certain class of metrics, one can always choose suitable initial velocity symmetric tensor such that the solution exists for all time, and the scalar curvature corresponding to the solution metric $g_{ij}$ keeps uniformly bounded for all time. If the initial velocity tensor does not satisfy the condition, then the solution blows up at a finite time, and the scalar curvature $R(t,x)$ goes to positive infinity as $(t,x)$ tends to the blowup points, and a flow with surgery has to be considered. The authors attempt to show that, comparing to Ricci flow, the hyperbolic geometric flow has the following advantage: the surgery technique may be replaced by choosing suitable initial velocity tensor. Some geometric properties of hyperbolic geometric flow on general open and closed Riemann surfaces are also discussed.

New properties of the intersection numbers on moduli spaces of curves

We present certain new properties about the intersection numbers on moduli spaces of curves $\bar{\sM}_{g,n}$, including a simple explicit formula of $n$-point functions and several new identities of intersection numbers. In particular we prove a new identity, which together with a conjectural identity implies the famous Faber's conjecture about relations in $\mathcal R^{g-2}(\sM_g)$. These new identities clarify the mysterious constant in Faber's conjecture and uncover novel combinatorial structures of intersection numbers. We also discuss some numerical properties of Hodge integrals which have provided numerous inspirations for this work.

A Mathematical Theory of the Topological Vertex

We have developed a mathematical theory of the topological vertex--a theory that was original proposed by M. Aganagic, A. Klemm, M. Marino, and C. Vafa in hep-th/0305132 on effectively computing Gromov-Witten invariants of smooth toric Calabi-Yau threefolds derived from duality between open string theory of smooth Calabi-Yau threefolds and Chern-Simons theory on three manifolds.

Dissipative Hyperbolic Geometric Flow

In this paper we introduce and study a new kind of hyperbolic geometric flows --dissipative hyperbolic geometric flow. This kind of flow is defined by a system of quasilinear wave equations with dissipative terms. Some interesting exact solutions are given, in particular, a new concept-- hyperbolic Ricci soliton is introduced and some of its geometric properties are described. We also establish the short-time existence and uniqueness theorem for the dissipative hyperbolic geometric flow, and prove the nonlinear stability of the flow defined on the Euclidean space of dimension larger than 2. Wave character of the evolving metrics and curvatures is illustrated and the nonlinear wave equations satisfied by the curvatures are derived.
