A short proof of Bresinski's Theorem on Gorenstein semigroup rings generated by 4 elements

Let $H=\langle n_1, \ldots ,n_4\rangle$ be a numerical semigroup generated by $4$ elements, which is symmetric and let $k[H]$ be the semigroup ring of $H$ over a field $k$. H. Bresinski proved that the defining ideal of $k[H]$ is minimally generated by $3$ or $5$ elements. We give a new short proof of Bresinski's Theorem using the structure theorem of Buchsbaum and Eisenbud on the minimal free resolution of Gorenstein rings of embedding codimension $3$.

Normal reduction numbers for normal surface singularities with application to elliptic singularities of Brieskorn type

In this paper, we give a formula for normal reduction number of an integrally closed $\mathfrak m$-primary ideal of a $2$-dimensional normal local ring $(A,\mathfrak m)$ in terms of the geometric genus $p_g(A)$ of $A$. Also we compute the normal reduction number of the maximal ideal of Brieskorn hypersurfaces. As an application, we give a short proof of a classification of Brieskorn hypersurfaces having elliptic singularities.

A characterization of two-dimensional rational singularities via Core of ideals

The notion of $p_g$-ideals for normal surface singularities has been proved to be very useful. On the other hand, the core of ideals has been proved to be very important concept and also very mysterious one. However, the computation of the core of an ideal seems to be given only for very special cases. In this paper, we will give an explicit description of the core of $p_g$-ideals of normal surface singularities. As a consequence, we give a characterization of rational singularities using the inclusion of the core of integrally closed ideals.

The strong Rees property of powers of the maximal ideal and Takahashi-Dao's question

In this paper, we introduce the notion of the strong Rees property (SRP) for $\mathfrak{m}$-primary ideals of a Noetherian local ring and prove that any power of the maximal ideal $\mathfrak{m}$ has its property if the associated graded ring $G$ of $\mathfrak{m}$ satisfies $\text{depth} \ G \ge 2$. As its application, we characterize two-dimensional excellent normal local domains so that $\mathfrak{m}$ is a $p_g$-ideal. Finally we ask what $\mathfrak{m}$-primary ideals have SRP and state a conjecture which characterizes the case when $\mathfrak{m}^n$ are the only ideals which have SRP.

Rees algebras and $p_g$-ideals in a two-dimensional normal local domain

The authors introduced the notion of $p_g$-ideals for two-dimensional excellent normal local domain over an algebraicaly closed field in terms of resolution of singularities. In this note, we give several ring-theoretic characterization of $p_g$-ideals. For instance, an $m$-primary ideal $I \subset A$ is a $p_g$-ideal if and only if the Rees alegbra $\mathcal{R}(I)$ is a Cohen-Macaulay normal domain.

Good ideals and $p_g$-ideals in two-dimensional normal singularities

In this paper, we introduce the notion of $p_g$-ideals and $p_g$-cycles, which inherits nice properties of integrally closed ideals on rational singularities. As an application, we prove an existence of good ideals for two-dimensional Gorenstein normal local rings. Moreover, we classify all Ulrich ideals for two-dimensional simple elliptic singularities with small degree.

Classification of 2-dimensional graded normal hypersurfaces with $a(R)\le 6$

Let k be a field of any characteristic and R = k[x,y,z]/(f) be a graded normal hypersurface. We call (a,b,c; h) = deg(x,y,z;f) the type of R with gcd(a,b,c)=1. Then the a-invariant a(R) is given by h - (a+b+c). The classification of such R (or f) was made by many authors (Arnold, Saito, Wagreich, ...). Here we classify the possible types of R for a fixed a(R) with $- 1 \le a(R) \le 6$ by commutative ring theoretic method using the Dolgachev-Pinkham-Demazure construction of normal graded rings. We also show that if we fix $a(R) \ge 0$, then the number of possible types of R is finite.

Ulrich ideals and modules over two-dimensional rational singularities

The main aim of this paper is to classify Ulrich ideals and Ulrich modules over two-dimensional Gorenstein rational singularities (rational double points) from a geometric point of view. To achieve this purpose, we introduce the notion of (weakly) special Cohen-Macaulay modules with respect to ideals, and study the relationship between those modules and Ulrich modules with respect to good ideals.

Ulrich ideals and modules

In this paper we study Ulrich ideals of and Ulrich modules over Cohen--Macaulay local rings from various points of view. We determine the structure of minimal free resolutions of Ulrich modules and their associated graded modules, and classify Ulrich ideals of numerical semigroup rings and rings of finite CM-representation type.

Jet schemes of homogeneous hypersurfaces

This paper studies the singularities of jet schemes of homogeneous hypersurfaces of general type. We obtain the condition of the degree and the dimension for the singularities of the jet schemes to be of dense $F$-regular type. This provides us with examples of singular varieties whose $m$-jet schemes have rational singularities for every $m$.

F-signature of graded Gorenstein rings

For a commutative ring $R$, the $F$-signature was defined by Huneke and Leuschke \cite{H-L}. It is an invariant that measures the order of the rank of the free direct summand of $R^{(e)}$. Here, $R^{(e)}$ is $R$ itself, regarded as an $R$-module through $e$-times Frobenius action $F^e$.In this paper, we show a connection of the F-signature of a graded ring with other invariants. More precisely, for a graded $F$-finite Gorenstein ring $R$ of dimension $d$, we give an inequality among the $F$-signature $s(R)$, $a$-invariant $a(R)$ and Poincaré polynomial $P(R,t)$. \[ s(R)\le\frac{(-a(R))^d}{2^{d-1}d!}\lim_{t\rightarrow 1}(1-t)^dP(R,t) \]Moreover, we show that $R^{(e)}$ has only one free direct summand for any $e$, if and only if $R$ is $F$-pure and $a(R)=0$. This gives a characterization of such rings.

Genus of numerical semigroups generated by three elements

In this paper we study numerical semigroups generated by three elements. We give a characterization of pseudo-symmetric numerical semigroups. Also, we will give a simple algorithm to get all the pseudo-symmetric numerical semigroups with give Frobenius number.

Multiplicity bounds in graded rings

The $F$-threshold $c^J(\a)$ of an ideal $\a$ with respect to an ideal $J$ is a positive characteristic invariant obtained by comparing the powers of $\a$ with the Frobenius powers of $J$. We study a conjecture formulated in an earlier paper \cite{HMTW} by the same authors together with M. Mustaţă, which bounds $c^J(\a)$ in terms of the multiplicities $e(\a)$ and $e(J)$, when $\a$ and $J$ are zero-dimensional ideals and $J$ is generated by a system of parameters. We prove the conjecture when $\a$ and $J$ are generated by homogeneous systems of parameters in a Noetherian graded $k$-algebra. We also prove a similar inequality involving, instead of the $F$-threshold, the jumping number for the generalized parameter test submodules introduced in \cite{ST}.

Multigraded rings, diagonal subalgebras, and rational singularities

We study the properties of F-rationality and F-regularity in multigraded rings and their diagonal subalgebras. The main focus is on diagonal subalgebras of bigraded rings: these constitute an interesting class of rings since they arise naturally as homogeneous coordinate rings of blow-ups of projective varieties. As a consequence of some of the results obtained here, it is shown that there exist standard bigraded hypersurfaces whose rings of invariants under torus actions have rational singularities, but are not of F-regular type. Another application is the construction of families of rings with divisor class groups that are finitely generated, but not discrete in the sense of Danilov.

F-thresholds, tight closure, integral closure, and multiplicity bounds

The F-threshold $c^J(\a)$ of an ideal $\a$ with respect to the ideal $J$ is a positive characteristic invariant obtained by comparing the powers of $\a$ with the Frobenius powers of $J$. We show that under mild assumptions, we can detect the containment in the integral closure or the tight closure of a parameter ideal using F-thresholds. We formulate a conjecture bounding $c^J(\a)$ in terms of the multiplicities $e(\a)$ and $e(J)$, when $\a$ and $J$ are zero-dimensional ideals, and $J$ is generated by a system of parameters. We prove the conjecture when $J$ is a monomial ideal in a polynomial ring, and also when $\a$ and $J$ are generated by homogeneous systems of parameters in a Cohen-Macaulay graded $k$-algebra.
