Mori's program for the moduli space of conics in Grassmannian

We complete Mori's program for Kontsevich's moduli space of degree 2 stable maps to Grassmannian of lines. We describe all birational models in terms of moduli spaces (of curves and sheaves), incidence varieties, and Kirwan's partial desingularization.

Curves in Segre threefolds

We study locally Cohen-Macaulay curves of low degree in the Segre threefold with Picard number three and investigate the irreducible and connected components respectively of the Hilbert scheme of them. We also discuss the irreducibility of some moduli spaces of purely one-dimensional stable sheaves and apply the similar argument to the Segre threefold with Picard number two.

Moduli of sheaves, Fourier-Mukai transform, and partial desingularization

We study birational maps among 1) the moduli space of semistable torsion sheaves of Hilbert polynomial $4m+2$ on a smooth quadric surface, 2) the moduli space of semistable torsion sheaves of Hilbert polynomial $m^{2}+3m+2$ on $\mathbb{P}^{3}$, 3) Kontsevich's moduli space of genus zero stable maps of degree 2 to Grassmannian $Gr(2, 4)$. A regular birational morphism from 1) to 2) is described in terms of Fourier-Mukai transform. The map from 3) to 2) is Kirwan's partial desingularization. Also we investigate several geometric properties of 1) by using the variation of moduli spaces of stable pairs.

Moduli of sheaves supported on quartic space curves

As a continuation of the work of Freiermuth and Trautmann, we study the geometry of the moduli space of stable sheaves on $\mathbb{P}^3$ with Hilbert polynomial $4m+1$. The moduli space has three irreducible components whose generic elements are, respectively, sheaves supported on rational quartic curves, on elliptic quartic curves, or on planar quartic curves. The main idea of the proof is to relate the moduli space with the Hilbert scheme of curves by wall crossing. We present all stable sheaves contained in the intersections of the three irreducible components. We also classify stable sheaves by means of their free resolutions.

Chow ring of the moduli space of stable sheaves supported on quartic curves

Motivated by the computation of the BPS-invariants on a local Calabi-Yau threefold suggested by S. Katz, we compute the Chow ring and the cohomology ring of the moduli space of stable sheaves of Hilbert polynomial $4m+1$ on the projective plane. As a byproduct, we obtain the total Chern class and Euler characteristics of all line bundles, which provide a numerical data for the strange duality on the plane.

Virtual Poincaré polynomial of the space of stable pairs supported on quintic curves

Let $\mathbf{M}^α(d,χ)$ be the moduli space of $α$-stable pairs $(s,F)$ on the projective plane $\mathbb{P}^2$ with Hilbert polynomial $χ(F(m))=dm+χ$. For sufficiently large $α$ (denoted by $\infty$), it is well known that the moduli space is isomorphic to the relative Hilbert scheme of points over the universal degree $d$ plane curves. For the general $(d,χ)$, the relative Hilbert scheme does not have a bundle structure over the Hilbert scheme of points. In this paper, as the first non trivial such a case, we study the wall crossing of the $α$-stable pairs space when $(d,χ)=(5,2)$. As a direct corollary, by combining with Bridgeland wall crossing of the moduli space of stable sheaves, we compute the virtual Poincaré polynomial of $\mathbf{M}^{\infty}(5,2)$.

Moduli Spaces of $α$-stable Pairs and Wall-Crossing on $\mathbb{P}^2$

We study the wall-crossing of the moduli spaces $\mathbf{M}^α(d,1)$ of $α$-stable pairs with linear Hilbert polynomial $dm+1$ on the projective plane $\mathbb{P}^2$ as we alter the parameter $α$. When $d$ is 4 and 5, at each wall, the moduli spaces are related by a smooth blow-up morphism followed by a smooth blow-down morphism, where one can describe the blow-up centers geometrically. As a byproduct, we obtain the Poincaré polynomials of the moduli space $\mathbf{M}(d,1)$ of stable sheaves. We also discuss the wall-crossing when the number of stable components in Jordan-Hölder filtrations is three.

The geometry of the moduli space of one-dimensional sheaves

Let $\mathbf{M}_d$ be the moduli space of stable sheaves on $\mathbb{P}^2$ with Hilbert polynomial $dm+1$. In this paper, we determine the effective and the nef cone of the space $\mathbf{M}_d$ by natural geometric divisors. Main idea is to use the wall-crossing on the space of Bridgeland stability conditions and to compute the intersection numbers of divisors with curves by using the Grothendieck-Riemann-Roch theorem. We also present the stable base locus decomposition of the space $\mathbf{M}_6$. As a byproduct, we obtain the Betti numbers of the moduli spaces, which confirm the prediction in physics.

Cohomology bounds for sheaves of dimension one

We find the sharp bounds on $h^0(F)$ for one-dimensional semistable sheaves $F$ on a projective variety $X$ by using the spectrum of semistable sheaves. The result generalizes the Clifford theorem. When $X$ is the projective plane $\mathbb{P}^2$, we study the stratification of the moduli space by the spectrum of sheaves. We show that the deepest stratum is isomorphic to a subscheme of a relative Hilbert scheme. This provides an example of a family of semistable sheaves having the biggest dimensional global section space.

Compactified moduli spaces of rational curves in projective homogeneous varieties

The space of smooth rational curves of degree $d$ in a projective variety $X$ has compactifications by taking closures in the Hilbert scheme, the moduli space of stable sheaves or the moduli space of stable maps respectively. In this paper we compare these compactifications by explicit blow-ups and -downs when $X$ is a projective homogeneous variety and $d\leq 3$. Using the comparison result, we calculate the Betti numbers of the compactifications when $X$ is a Grassmannian variety.

Hilbert scheme of rational cubic curves via stable maps

The space of smooth rational cubic curves in projective space $\PP^r$ ($r\ge 3$) is a smooth quasi-projective variety, which gives us an open subset of the corresponding Hilbert scheme, the moduli space of stable maps, or the moduli space of stable sheaves. By taking its closure, we obtain three compactifications $\bH$, $\bM$, and $\bS$ respectively. In this paper, we compare these compactifications. First, we prove that $\bH$ is the blow-up of $\bS$ along a smooth subvariety which is the locus of stable sheaves which are planar (i.e. support is contained in a plane). Next we prove that $\bS$ is obtained from $\bM$ by three blow-ups followed by three blow-downs and the centers are described explicitly. Using this, we calculate the cohomology of $\bS$.
