Gauss-Hermite Approximation Formula

A multidimesional function $y(\vec r)$ defined by a sample of points $\{\vec r_i,y_i\}$ is approximated by a differentiable function $\widetilde y(\vec r)$. The problem is solved by using the Gauss-Hermite folding method developed in the nuclear shell correction method by Strutinsky.

Total and Differential Cross Sections for the pp-->pp eta-prime Reaction Near Threshold

The eta-prime meson production in the reaction pp-->pp eta-prime has been studied at excess energies of Q = 26.5, 32.5 and 46.6 MeV using the internal beam facility COSY-11 at the cooler synchrotron COSY. The total cross sections as well as one angular distribution for the highest Q-value are presented. The excitation function of the near threshold data can be described by a pure s-wave phase space distribution with the inclusion of the proton-proton final state interaction and Coulomb effects. The obtained angular distribution of the eta-prime mesons is also consistent with pure s-wave production.

On Charged Mesoscopic Metallic Bubbles

We investigate the existence of stable charged metallic bubbles using the shell correction method. We find that for a given mesoscopic system of n atoms of a given metal and q less n (positive) elementary charges, a metallic bubble turns out to have a lower total energy than a compact spherical cluster, whenever the charge number q is larger than acritical charge number q_c. For a magic number (n-q) of free electrons, the spherical metallic bubble may become stable against fission.

On the Shell Structure of Nuclear Bubbles

We investigate the shell structure of spherical nuclear bubbles in simple phenomenological shell model potentials. The shell correction energies for doubly magic bubbles may be as large as -40 MeV and probably imply a very long lifetime against spontaneous fission. Beta-stability occurs for ratios of the neutron number N to the proton number Z which differ markable from the beta-stability valley of ordinary compact nuclei. The alpha-decay probability is shown to be very small for proton rich bubbles with a moderately large outer radius. Metastable islands of nuclear bubbles are shown to exist for nucleon in the range A=450 - 3000.

Stability of bubble nuclei through Shell-Effects

We investigate the shell structure of bubble nuclei in simple phenomenological shell models and study their binding energy as a function of the radii and of the number of neutron and protons using Strutinsky's method. Shell effects come about, on the one hand, by the high degeneracy of levels with large angular momentum and, on the other, by the big energy gaps between states with a different number of radial nodes. Shell energies down to -40 MeV are shown to occur for certain magic nuclei. Estimates demonstrate that the calculated shell effects for certain magic numbers of constituents are probably large enough to produce stability against fission, alpha-, and beta-decay. No bubble solutions are found for mass number A < 450.

Neutron halos in heavy nuclei -- relativistic mean field approach

Assuming a~simple spherical relativistic mean field model of the nucleus, we estimate the width of the antiproton--neutron annihilation ($Γ_n$) and the width of antiproton--proton ($Γ_p$) annihilation, in an antiprotonic atom system. This allows us to determine the halo factor $f$, which is then discussed in the context of experimental data obtained in measurements recently done on LEAR utility at CERN. Another quantity which characterizes the deviation of the average nuclear densities ratio from the corresponding ratio of the homogeneous densities is introduced too. It was shown that it is also a good indicator of the neutron halo. The results are compared to experimental data as well as to the data of the simple liquid droplet model of the nuclear densities. The single particle structure of the nuclear density tail is discusssed also.
