A physical interpretation for the non-Hermitian Hamiltonian

We explore a way of finding the link between a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian and a Hermitian one. Based on the analysis of Bethe Ansatz solutions for a class of non-Hermitian Hamiltonians and the scattering problems for the corresponding Hermitian Hamiltonians. It is shown that a scattering state of an arbitrary Hermitian lattice embedded in a chain as the scattering center shares the same wave function with the corresponding non-Hermitian tight binding lattice, which consists of the Hermitian lattice with two additional on-site complex potentials, no matter the non-Hermitian is broken PT symmetry or even non-PT. An exactly solvable model is presented to demonstrate the main points of this article.

Perfect coherent shift of bound pairs in strongly correlated systems

In the present work we extend the concept of coherent shift for the extended Bose-Hubbard model and Fermi-Hubbard model. We present two types of local bound pair (BP) for Bose system and one type for Fermi system. It is shown exactly that the perfect coherent shift can be achieved in such models. We find that for a Bose on-site BP, the perfect coherent shift condition depends on the nearest-neighbor interaction strength and the momentum of the incident single particle wavepacket, while for the other two types of BPs, it is independent of the initial state in the proposed systems.

SU(2) symmetry in a Hubbard model with spin-orbit coupling

We study the underlying symmetry in a spin-orbit coupled tight-binding model with Hubbard interaction. It is shown that, in the absence of the on-site interaction, the system possesses the SU(2) symmetry arising from the timereversal symmetry. The influence of the on-site interaction on the symmetry depends on the topology of the networks: The SU(2) symmetry is shown to be the spin rotation symmetry of a simply-connected lattice, so it still holds in the presence of the Hubbard correlation. In contrary, the on-site interaction breaks the SU(2) symmetry of a multi-connected lattice.

Fast transfer and efficient coherent separation of bound cluster in the extended Hubbard model

We study the formation and dynamics of the bound pair (BP) and bound triple (BT) in strongly correlated extended Hubbard model for both Bose and Fermi systems. We find that the bandwidths of the BP and BT gain significantly when the on-site and nearest-neighbor interaction strengths reach the corresponding resonant points. This allows the fast transfer and efficient coherent separation of the BP and BT. The exact result shows that the success probability of the coherent separation is unity in the optimal system. In Fermi system, this finding can be applied to create distant entanglement without the need of temporal control and measurement process.

Physics counterpart of the PT non-hermitian tight-binding chain

We explore an alternative way of finding the link between a PT non-Hermitian Hamiltonian and a Hermitian one. Based on the analysis of the scattering problem for an imaginary potential and its time reversal process, it is shown that any real-energy eigenstate of a PT tight-binding lattice with on-site imaginary potentials shares the same wave function with a resonant transmission state of the corresponding Hermitian lattice embedded in a chain. It indicates that the PT eigenstate of a PT non-Hermitian Hamiltonian has connection to the resonance transmission state of the extended Hermitian Hamiltonian.

Rigorous results for tight-binding networks: particle trapping and scattering

We investigate the particle trapping and scattering properties in a tight-binding network which consists of several subgraphs. The particle trapping condition is proved under which particles can be trapped in a subgraph without leaking. Based on exact solutions for the configuration of a $π$-shaped lattice, it is argued that the bound states in a specified subgraph are of two types, resonant and evanescent. It is also shown that, when such a subgraph is embedded in a one-dimensional chain as the waveguide, an incident wave experiences total reflection if its energy matches the resonant bound state energy.

Solutions of PT symmetric tight-binding chain and its equivalent Hermitian counterpart

We study the Non-Hermitian quantum mechanics for the discrete system. This paper gives an exact analytic single-particle solution for an $N$-site tight-binding chain with two conjugated imaginary potentials $\pm iγ$ at two end sites, which Hamiltonian has parity-time symmetry ($\mathcal{PT}$ symmetry). Based on the Bethe ansatz results, it is found that, in single-particle subspace, this model is comprised of two phases, an unbroken symmetry phase with a purely real energy spectrum in the region $γ\prec γ_{c}$ and a spontaneously-broken symmetry phase with $N-2$ real and 2 imaginary eigenvalues in the region $γ\succ γ_{c}$. The behaviors of eigenfunctions and eigenvalues in the vicinity of $γ_{c}$ are investigated. It is shown that the boundary of two phases possesses the characteristics of exceptional point. We also construct the equivalent Hermitian Hamiltonian of the present model in the framework of metric-operator theory. We find out that the equivalent Hermitian Hamiltonian can be written as another bipartite lattice model with real long-range hoppings.

Generation of GHZ and W states for stationary qubits in spin network via resonance scattering

We propose a simple scheme to establish entanglement among stationary qubits based on the mechanism of resonance scattering between them and a single-spin-flip wave packet in designed spin network. It is found that through the natural dynamical evolution of an incident single-spin-flip wave packet in a spin network and the subsequent measurement of the output single-spin-flip wave packet, multipartite entangled states among n stationary qubits, Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) and W states can be generated.

Coherent shift of localized bound pair in Bose Hubbard model

Based on the exact results obtained by Bethe ansatz, we demonstrate the existence of stable bound pair (BP) wave packet in Bose Hubbard model with arbitrary on-site interaction U. In large-U regime, it is found that an incoming single-particle (SP) can coherently pass through a BP wave packet and leave a coherent shift in the position of it. This suggests a simple scheme for constructing a BP charge qubit to realize a quantum switch, which is capable of controlling the coherent transport of one and only one photon in a one-dimensional waveguide.

Generation of second harmonic in off-diagonal magneto-impedance in Co-based amorphous ribbons

The off-diagonal magneto-impedance in Co-based amorphous ribbons was measured using a pick-up coil wound around the sample. The ribbons were annealed in air or in vacuum in the presence of a weak magnetic field. The evolution of the first and second harmonics in the pick-up coil voltage as a function of the current amplitude was studied. At low current amplitudes, the first harmonic dominates in the frequency spectrum of the voltage, and at sufficiently high current amplitudes, the amplitude of the second harmonic becomes higher than that of the first harmonic. For air-annealed ribbons, the asymmetric two-peak behaviour of the field dependences of the harmonic amplitudes was observed, which is related to the coupling between the amorphous phase and surface crystalline layers appearing after annealing. For vacuum-annealed samples, the first harmonic has a maximum at zero external field, and the field dependence of the second harmonic exhibits symmetric two-peak behaviour. The experimental results are interpreted in terms of a quasi-static rotational model. It is shown that the appearance of the second harmonic in the pick-up coil voltage is related to the anti-symmetrical distribution of the transverse field induced by the current. The calculated dependences are in a qualitative agreement with the experimental data.

Off-diagonal magnetoimpedance in field-annealed Co-based amorphous ribbons

The off-diagonal magnetoimpedance in field-annealed CoFeSiB amorphous ribbons was measured in the low-frequency range using a pick-up coil wound around the sample. The asymmetric two-peak behavior of the field dependence of the off-diagonal impedance was observed. The asymmetry is attributed to the formation of a hard magnetic crystalline phase at the ribbon surface. The experimental results are interpreted in terms of the surface impedance tensor. It is assumed that the ribbon consists of an inner amorphous region and surface crystalline layers. The coupling between the crystalline and amorphous phases is described through an effective bias field. A qualitative agreement between the calculated dependences and experimental data is demonstrated. The results obtained may be useful for development of weak magnetic-field sensors.

Nuclear Reactions Rates Governing the Nucleosynthesis of Ti44

Large excesses of Ca44 in certain presolar graphite and silicon carbide grains give strong evidence for Ti44 production in supernovae. Furthermore, recent detection of the Ti44 gamma-line from the Cas A SNR by CGRO/COMPTEL shows that radioactive Ti44 is produced in supernovae. These make the Ti44 abundance an observable diagnostic of supernovae. Through use of a nuclear reaction network, we have systematically varied reaction rates and groups of reaction rates to experimentally identify those that govern Ti44 abundance in core-collapse supernova nucleosynthesis. We survey the nuclear-rate dependence by repeated calculations of the identical adiabatic expansion, with peak temperature and density chosen to be 5.5xE9 K and 1E7 g/cc, respectively, to approximate the conditions in detailed supernova models. We find that, for equal total numbers of neutrons and protons (eta=0), Ti44 production is most sensitive to the following reaction rates: Ti44(alpha,p)V47, alpha(2alpha,gamma)C12, Ti44(alpha,gamma)Cr48, V45(p,gamma)Cr46. We tabulate the most sensitive reactions in order of their importance to the Ti44 production near the standard values of currently accepted cross-sections, at both reduced reaction rate (0.01X) and at increased reaction rate (100X) relative to their standard values. Although most reactions retain their importance for eta > 0, that of V45(p,gamma)Cr46 drops rapidly for eta >= 0.0004. Other reactions assume greater significance at greater neutron excess: C12(alpha,gamma)O16, Ca40(alpha,gamma)Ti44, Al27(alpha,n)P30, Si30(alpha,n)S33. Because many of these rates are unknown experimentally, our results suggest the most important targets for future cross section measurements governing the value of this observable abundance.
