Four-boson scale near a Feshbach resonance

We show that an independent four-body momentum scale $μ_{(4)}$ drives the tetramer binding energy for fixed trimer energy (or three-body scale $μ_{(3)}$) and large scattering length ($a$). The three- and four-body forces from the one-channel reduction of the atomic interaction near a Feshbach resonance disentangle $μ_{(4)}$ and $μ_{(3)}$. The four-body independent scale is also manifested through a family of Tjon-lines, with slope given by $μ_{(4)}/μ_{(3)}$ for $a^{-1}=0$. There is the possibility of a new renormalization group limit cycle due to the new scale.

Structure of exotic three-body systems

The classification of large halos formed by two identical particles and a core is systematically addressed according to interparticle distances. The root-mean-square distances between the constituents are described by universal scaling functions obtained from a renormalized zero-range model. Applications for halo nuclei, $^{11}$Li and $^{14}$Be, and for atomic $^4$He$_3$ are briefly discussed. The generalization to four-body systems is proposed.

Recursive renormalization of the singlet one-pion-exchange plus point-like interactions

The subtracted kernel approach is shown to be a powerful method to be implemented recursively in scattering equations with regular plus point-like interactions. The advantages of the method allows one to recursively renormalize the potentials, with higher derivatives of the Dirac-delta, improving previous results. The applicability of the method is verified in the calculation of the $^1S_0$ nucleon-nucleon phase-shifts, when considering a potential with one-pion-exchange plus a contact interaction and its derivatives. The $^1S_0$ renormalization parameters are fitted to the data. The method can in principle be extended to any derivative order of the contact interaction, to higher partial waves and to coupled channels.

Neutron-neutron correlation in the halo dissociation of light exotic nuclei

We present model results for the two-halo-neutron correlation functions, $C_{nn}$, for the dissociation process of light exotic nuclei modelled as two neutrons and a core. A minimum is predicted for $C_{nn}$ as a function of the relative momentum of the two neutrons, $p_{nn}$, due to the coherence of the neutrons in the halo and final state interaction. Studying the systems $^{14}$Be, $^{11}$Li and $^{6}$He within this model, we show that the numerical asymptotic limit, $C_{nn}\to 1$, occurs only for $p_{nn}\gtrsim$ 400 MeV$/c$, while such limit is reached for much lower values of $p_{nn}$ in an independent particle model as the one used in the analysis of recent experimental data. Our model is consistent with data once the experimental correlation function is appropriately normalized.

Kaon Eletromagnetic Form Factor in the Light-Front Formalism

Numerical calculations are performed and compared to the experimental data for the electromagnetic form factor of the kaon, which is extracted from both components of the electromagnetic current, $J^{+}$ and $J^{-}$, with a pseudo-scalar coupling of the quarks to the kaon. In the case of $J^{+}$ there is no pair term contribution in the Drell-Yan frame ($q^{+}=0$). However, for $J^{-}$, the pair term contribution is different from zero and necessary in order to preserve the rotational symmetry of the current. The free parameters are the quark masses and the regulator mass.

Radii in weakly-bound light halo nuclei

A systematic study of the root-mean-square distance between the constituents of weakly-bound nuclei consisting of two halo neutrons and a core is performed using a renormalized zero-range model. The radii are obtained from a universal scaling function that depends on the mass ratio of the neutron and the core, as well as on the nature of the subsystems, bound or virtual. Our calculations are qualitatively consistent with recent data for the neutron-neutron root-mean-square distance in the halo of $^{11}$Li and $^{14}$Be nuclei.

Three-Body Recombination in Ultracold Systems: Prediction of Weakly-Bound Atomic Trimer Energies

The three-body recombination coefficient of a trapped ultracold atomic system, together with the corresponding two-body scattering length $a$, allow us to predict the energy $E_3$ of the shallow trimer bound state, using a universal scaling function. The production of dimers in Bose-Einstein condensates, from three-body recombination processes, in the regime of short magnetic pulses near a Feshbach resonance, is also studied in line with the experimental observation.

Weakly bound atomic trimers in ultracold traps

The experimental three-atom recombination coefficients of the atomic states $^{23}$Na$|F=1,m_F=-1>$, $^{87}$Rb$|F=1,m_F=-1>$ and $^{85}$Rb$|F=2,m_F=-2>$, together with the corresponding two-body scattering lengths, allow predictions of the trimer bound state energies for such systems in a trap. The recombination parameter is given as a function of the weakly bound trimer energies, which are in the interval $ 1 $, for a particular trap, is shown to be relatively small.

Radii of weakly bound three-body systems: halo nuclei and molecules

A renormalized three-body model with zero-range potential is used to estimate the mean-square radii of three-body halo nuclei and molecular systems. The halo nuclei ($^6$He, $^{11}$Li, $^{14}$Be and $^{20}$C) are described as point-like inert cores and two neutrons. The molecular systems, with two helium atoms, are of the type $^4$He$_2-$X, where X$=^4$He, $^6$Li, $^7$Li, or $^{23}$Na. The estimations are compared with experimental data and realistic results.

Scaling predictions for radii of weakly bound triatomic molecules

The mean-square radii of the molecules $^4$He$_3$, $^4$He$_2-^6$Li, $^4$He$_2-^7$Li and $^4$He$_2-^{23}$Na are calculated using a three-body model with contact interactions. They are obtained from a universal scaling function calculated within a renormalized scheme for three particles interacting through pairwise Dirac-delta interaction. The root-mean-square distance between two atoms of mass $m_A$ in a triatomic molecule are estimated to be of de order of ${\cal C}\sqrt{\hbar^2/[m_A(E_3-E_2)]}$, where $E_2$ is the dimer and $E_3$ the trimer binding energies, and ${\cal C}$ is a constant (varying from $\sim 0.6$ to $\sim 1$) that depends on the ratio between $E_2$ and $E_3$. Considering previous estimates for the trimer energies, we also predict the sizes of Rubidium and Sodium trimers in atomic traps.

Scaling limit of virtual states of triatomic systems

For a system with three identical atoms, the dependence of the $s-$wave virtual state energy on the weakly bound dimer and trimer binding energies is calculated in a form of a universal scaling function. The scaling function is obtained from a renormalizable three-body model with a pairwise Dirac-delta interaction. It was also discussed the threshold condition for the appearance of the trimer virtual state.

Stability of the trapped nonconservative Gross-Pitaevskii equation with attractive two-body interaction

The dynamics of a nonconservative Gross-Pitaevskii equation for trapped atomic systems with attractive two-body interaction is numerically investigated, considering wide variations of the nonconservative parameters, related to atomic feeding and dissipation. We study the possible limitations of the mean field description for an atomic condensate with attractive two-body interaction, by defining the parameter regions where stable or unstable formation can be found. The present study is useful and timely considering the possibility of large variations of attractive two-body scattering lengths, which may be feasible in recent experiments.

Effect of anharmonicities in the critical number of trapped condensed atoms with attractive two-body interaction

We determine the quantitative effect, in the maximum number of particles and other static observables, due to small anharmonic terms added to the confining potential of an atomic condensed system with negative two-body interaction. As an example of how a cubic or quartic anharmonic term can affect the maximum number of particles, we consider the trap parameters and the results given by Roberts et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 86, 4211 (2001)]. However, this study can be easily transferred to other trap geometries to estimate anharmonic effects.

Light-front model of the kaon electromagnetic current

The electromagnetic form factor is extracted from both components of the electromagnetic current: J(plus) and J(minus) with a pseudo-scalar coupling of the quarks to the kaon. In the case of J(plus) there is no pair term contribution in the Drell-Yan frame. However, J(minus) component of the electromagnetic current the pair term contribution is different from zero and is necessary include it to preserve the rotational symmetry of the current.

Critical number of atoms for attractive Bose-Einstein condensates with cylindrically symmetrical traps

We calculated, within the Gross-Pitaevskii formalism, the critical number of atoms for Bose-Einstein condensates with two-body attractive interactions in cylindrical traps with different frequency ratios. In particular, by using the trap geometries considered by the JILA group [Phys. Rev. Lett. 86, 4211 (2001)], we show that the theoretical maximum critical numbers are given approximately by $N_c = 0.55 ({l_0}/{|a|})$. Our results also show that, by exchanging the frequencies $ω_z$ and $ω_ρ$, the geometry with $ω_ρ< ω_z$ favors the condensation of larger number of particles. We also simulate the time evolution of the condensate when changing the ground state from $a=0$ to $a<0$ using a 200ms ramp. A conjecture on higher order nonlinear effects is also added in our analysis with an experimental proposal to determine its signal and strength.

Fixed-Point Hamiltonians in Quantum Mechanics

We show how to derive fixed-point Hamiltonians in quantum mechanics from a proposed renormalization group invariance approach that relies in a subtraction procedure at a given energy scale. The scheme is valid for arbitrary interactions that originally contain point-like singularities (as the Dirac-delta and/or its derivatives). One example of diagonalization of a fixed-point Hamiltonian illustrates the procedure for an interaction that contains regular and singular parts. In another example, the fixed point Hamiltonian is derived for the case of higher order singularities in the interaction.

Lower bound to the mass of a relativistic three-boson system in the light-cone

The lower bound masses of the ground-state relativistic three-boson system in 1+1, 2+1 and 3+1 space-time dimensions are obtained. We have considered a reduction of the ladder Bethe-Salpeter equation to the light-front in a model with renormalized two-body contact interaction. The lower bounds are deduced with the constraint of reality of the two-boson subsystem mass. It is verified that, in some cases, the lower bound approaches the ground state binding energy. The corresponding non-relativistic limits are also verified.
