VAEMax: Open-Set Intrusion Detection based on OpenMax and Variational Autoencoder

Promptly discovering unknown network attacks is critical for reducing the risk of major loss imposed on system or equipment. This paper aims to develop an open-set intrusion detection model to classify known attacks as well as inferring unknown ones. To achieve this, we employ OpenMax and variational autoencoder to propose a dual detection model, VAEMax. First, we extract flow payload feature based on one-dimensional convolutional neural network. Then, the OpenMax is used to classify flows, during which some unknown attacks can be detected, while the rest are misclassified into a certain class of known flows. Finally, use VAE to perform secondary detection on each class of flows, and determine whether the flow is an unknown attack based on the reconstruction loss. Experiments performed on dataset CIC-IDS2017 and CSE-CIC-IDS2018 show our approach is better than baseline models and can be effectively applied to realistic network environments.

A Risk-aware Planning Framework of UGVs in Off-Road Environment

Planning module is an essential component of intelligent vehicle study. In this paper, we address the risk-aware planning problem of UGVs through a global-local planning framework which seamlessly integrates risk assessment methods. In particular, a global planning algorithm named Coarse2fine A* is proposed, which incorporates a potential field approach to enhance the safety of the planning results while ensuring the efficiency of the algorithm. A deterministic sampling method for local planning is leveraged and modified to suit off-road environment. It also integrates a risk assessment model to emphasize the avoidance of local risks. The performance of the algorithm is demonstrated through simulation experiments by comparing it with baseline algorithms, where the results of Coarse2fine A* are shown to be approximately 30% safer than those of the baseline algorithms. The practicality and effectiveness of the proposed planning framework are validated by deploying it on a real-world system consisting of a control center and a practical UGV platform.

Progressive Energy-Based Cooperative Learning for Multi-Domain Image-to-Image Translation

This paper studies a novel energy-based cooperative learning framework for multi-domain image-to-image translation. The framework consists of four components: descriptor, translator, style encoder, and style generator. The descriptor is a multi-head energy-based model that represents a multi-domain image distribution. The components of translator, style encoder, and style generator constitute a diversified image generator. Specifically, given an input image from a source domain, the translator turns it into a stylised output image of the target domain according to a style code, which can be inferred by the style encoder from a reference image or produced by the style generator from a random noise. Since the style generator is represented as an domain-specific distribution of style codes, the translator can provide a one-to-many transformation (i.e., diversified generation) between source domain and target domain. To train our framework, we propose a likelihood-based multi-domain cooperative learning algorithm to jointly train the multi-domain descriptor and the diversified image generator (including translator, style encoder, and style generator modules) via multi-domain MCMC teaching, in which the descriptor guides the diversified image generator to shift its probability density toward the data distribution, while the diversified image generator uses its randomly translated images to initialize the descriptor's Langevin dynamics process for efficient sampling.

StyleSpeech: Self-supervised Style Enhancing with VQ-VAE-based Pre-training for Expressive Audiobook Speech Synthesis

The expressive quality of synthesized speech for audiobooks is limited by generalized model architecture and unbalanced style distribution in the training data. To address these issues, in this paper, we propose a self-supervised style enhancing method with VQ-VAE-based pre-training for expressive audiobook speech synthesis. Firstly, a text style encoder is pre-trained with a large amount of unlabeled text-only data. Secondly, a spectrogram style extractor based on VQ-VAE is pre-trained in a self-supervised manner, with plenty of audio data that covers complex style variations. Then a novel architecture with two encoder-decoder paths is specially designed to model the pronunciation and high-level style expressiveness respectively, with the guidance of the style extractor. Both objective and subjective evaluations demonstrate that our proposed method can effectively improve the naturalness and expressiveness of the synthesized speech in audiobook synthesis especially for the role and out-of-domain scenarios.

VideoDubber: Machine Translation with Speech-Aware Length Control for Video Dubbing

Video dubbing aims to translate the original speech in a film or television program into the speech in a target language, which can be achieved with a cascaded system consisting of speech recognition, machine translation and speech synthesis. To ensure the translated speech to be well aligned with the corresponding video, the length/duration of the translated speech should be as close as possible to that of the original speech, which requires strict length control. Previous works usually control the number of words or characters generated by the machine translation model to be similar to the source sentence, without considering the isochronicity of speech as the speech duration of words/characters in different languages varies. In this paper, we propose a machine translation system tailored for the task of video dubbing, which directly considers the speech duration of each token in translation, to match the length of source and target speech. Specifically, we control the speech length of generated sentence by guiding the prediction of each word with the duration information, including the speech duration of itself as well as how much duration is left for the remaining words. We design experiments on four language directions (German -> English, Spanish -> English, Chinese <-> English), and the results show that the proposed method achieves better length control ability on the generated speech than baseline methods. To make up the lack of real-world datasets, we also construct a real-world test set collected from films to provide comprehensive evaluations on the video dubbing task.

PromptTTS 2: Describing and Generating Voices with Text Prompt

Speech conveys more information than text, as the same word can be uttered in various voices to convey diverse information. Compared to traditional text-to-speech (TTS) methods relying on speech prompts (reference speech) for voice variability, using text prompts (descriptions) is more user-friendly since speech prompts can be hard to find or may not exist at all. TTS approaches based on the text prompt face two main challenges: 1) the one-to-many problem, where not all details about voice variability can be described in the text prompt, and 2) the limited availability of text prompt datasets, where vendors and large cost of data labeling are required to write text prompts for speech. In this work, we introduce PromptTTS 2 to address these challenges with a variation network to provide variability information of voice not captured by text prompts, and a prompt generation pipeline to utilize the large language models (LLM) to compose high quality text prompts. Specifically, the variation network predicts the representation extracted from the reference speech (which contains full information about voice variability) based on the text prompt representation. For the prompt generation pipeline, it generates text prompts for speech with a speech language understanding model to recognize voice attributes (e.g., gender, speed) from speech and a large language model to formulate text prompts based on the recognition results. Experiments on a large-scale (44K hours) speech dataset demonstrate that compared to the previous works, PromptTTS 2 generates voices more consistent with text prompts and supports the sampling of diverse voice variability, thereby offering users more choices on voice generation. Additionally, the prompt generation pipeline produces high-quality text prompts, eliminating the large labeling cost. The demo page of PromptTTS 2 is available online.

ChatRadio-Valuer: A Chat Large Language Model for Generalizable Radiology Report Generation Based on Multi-institution and Multi-system Data

Radiology report generation, as a key step in medical image analysis, is critical to the quantitative analysis of clinically informed decision-making levels. However, complex and diverse radiology reports with cross-source heterogeneity pose a huge generalizability challenge to the current methods under massive data volume, mainly because the style and normativity of radiology reports are obviously distinctive among institutions, body regions inspected and radiologists. Recently, the advent of large language models (LLM) offers great potential for recognizing signs of health conditions. To resolve the above problem, we collaborate with the Second Xiangya Hospital in China and propose ChatRadio-Valuer based on the LLM, a tailored model for automatic radiology report generation that learns generalizable representations and provides a basis pattern for model adaptation in sophisticated analysts' cases. Specifically, ChatRadio-Valuer is trained based on the radiology reports from a single institution by means of supervised fine-tuning, and then adapted to disease diagnosis tasks for human multi-system evaluation (i.e., chest, abdomen, muscle-skeleton, head, and maxillofacial $\&$ neck) from six different institutions in clinical-level events. The clinical dataset utilized in this study encompasses a remarkable total of \textbf{332,673} observations. From the comprehensive results on engineering indicators, clinical efficacy and deployment cost metrics, it can be shown that ChatRadio-Valuer consistently outperforms state-of-the-art models, especially ChatGPT (GPT-3.5-Turbo) and GPT-4 et al., in terms of the diseases diagnosis from radiology reports. ChatRadio-Valuer provides an effective avenue to boost model generalization performance and alleviate the annotation workload of experts to enable the promotion of clinical AI applications in radiology reports.

ContextSpeech: Expressive and Efficient Text-to-Speech for Paragraph Reading

While state-of-the-art Text-to-Speech systems can generate natural speech of very high quality at sentence level, they still meet great challenges in speech generation for paragraph / long-form reading. Such deficiencies are due to i) ignorance of cross-sentence contextual information, and ii) high computation and memory cost for long-form synthesis. To address these issues, this work develops a lightweight yet effective TTS system, ContextSpeech. Specifically, we first design a memory-cached recurrence mechanism to incorporate global text and speech context into sentence encoding. Then we construct hierarchically-structured textual semantics to broaden the scope for global context enhancement. Additionally, we integrate linearized self-attention to improve model efficiency. Experiments show that ContextSpeech significantly improves the voice quality and prosody expressiveness in paragraph reading with competitive model efficiency. Orbital AI-based Autonomous Refuelling Solution

Cameras are rapidly becoming the choice for on-board sensors towards space rendezvous due to their small form factor and inexpensive power, mass, and volume costs. When it comes to docking, however, they typically serve a secondary role, whereas the main work is done by active sensors such as lidar. This paper documents the development of a proposed AI-based (artificial intelligence) navigation algorithm intending to mature the use of on-board visible wavelength cameras as a main sensor for docking and on-orbit servicing (OOS), reducing the dependency on lidar and greatly reducing costs. Specifically, the use of AI enables the expansion of the relative navigation solution towards multiple classes of scenarios, e.g., in terms of targets or illumination conditions, which would otherwise have to be crafted on a case-by-case manner using classical image processing methods. Multiple convolutional neural network (CNN) backbone architectures are benchmarked on synthetically generated data of docking manoeuvres with the International Space Station (ISS), achieving position and attitude estimates close to 1% range-normalised and 1 deg, respectively. The integration of the solution with a physical prototype of the refuelling mechanism is validated in laboratory using a robotic arm to simulate a berthing procedure.

MuLanTTS: The Microsoft Speech Synthesis System for Blizzard Challenge 2023

In this paper, we present MuLanTTS, the Microsoft end-to-end neural text-to-speech (TTS) system designed for the Blizzard Challenge 2023. About 50 hours of audiobook corpus for French TTS as hub task and another 2 hours of speaker adaptation as spoke task are released to build synthesized voices for different test purposes including sentences, paragraphs, homographs, lists, etc. Building upon DelightfulTTS, we adopt contextual and emotion encoders to adapt the audiobook data to enrich beyond sentences for long-form prosody and dialogue expressiveness. Regarding the recording quality, we also apply denoise algorithms and long audio processing for both corpora. For the hub task, only the 50-hour single speaker data is used for building the TTS system, while for the spoke task, a multi-speaker source model is used for target speaker fine tuning. MuLanTTS achieves mean scores of quality assessment 4.3 and 4.5 in the respective tasks, statistically comparable with natural speech while keeping good similarity according to similarity assessment. The excellent and similarity in this year's new and dense statistical evaluation show the effectiveness of our proposed system in both tasks.

Large-Scale Automatic Audiobook Creation

An audiobook can dramatically improve a work of literature's accessibility and improve reader engagement. However, audiobooks can take hundreds of hours of human effort to create, edit, and publish. In this work, we present a system that can automatically generate high-quality audiobooks from online e-books. In particular, we leverage recent advances in neural text-to-speech to create and release thousands of human-quality, open-license audiobooks from the Project Gutenberg e-book collection. Our method can identify the proper subset of e-book content to read for a wide collection of diversely structured books and can operate on hundreds of books in parallel. Our system allows users to customize an audiobook's speaking speed and style, emotional intonation, and can even match a desired voice using a small amount of sample audio. This work contributed over five thousand open-license audiobooks and an interactive demo that allows users to quickly create their own customized audiobooks. Oral-3Dv2: 3D Oral Reconstruction from Panoramic X-Ray Imaging with Implicit Neural Representation

3D reconstruction of medical imaging from 2D images has become an increasingly interesting topic with the development of deep learning models in recent years. Previous studies in 3D reconstruction from limited X-ray images mainly rely on learning from paired 2D and 3D images, where the reconstruction quality relies on the scale and variation of collected data. This has brought significant challenges in the collection of training data, as only a tiny fraction of patients take two types of radiation examinations in the same period. Although simulation from higher-dimension images could solve this problem, the variance between real and simulated data could bring great uncertainty at the same time. In oral reconstruction, the situation becomes more challenging as only a single panoramic X-ray image is available, where models need to infer the curved shape by prior individual knowledge. To overcome these limitations, we propose Oral-3Dv2 to solve this cross-dimension translation problem in dental healthcare by learning solely on projection information, i.e., the projection image and trajectory of the X-ray tube. Our model learns to represent the 3D oral structure in an implicit way by mapping 2D coordinates into density values of voxels in the 3D space. To improve efficiency and effectiveness, we utilize a multi-head model that predicts a bunch of voxel values in 3D space simultaneously from a 2D coordinate in the axial plane and the dynamic sampling strategy to refine details of the density distribution in the reconstruction result. Extensive experiments in simulated and real data show that our model significantly outperforms existing state-of-the-art models without learning from paired images or prior individual knowledge. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work of a non-adversarial-learning-based model in 3D radiology reconstruction from a single panoramic X-ray image.

FS-Depth: Focal-and-Scale Depth Estimation from a Single Image in Unseen Indoor Scene

It has long been an ill-posed problem to predict absolute depth maps from single images in real (unseen) indoor scenes. We observe that it is essentially due to not only the scale-ambiguous problem but also the focal-ambiguous problem that decreases the generalization ability of monocular depth estimation. That is, images may be captured by cameras of different focal lengths in scenes of different scales. In this paper, we develop a focal-and-scale depth estimation model to well learn absolute depth maps from single images in unseen indoor scenes. First, a relative depth estimation network is adopted to learn relative depths from single images with diverse scales/semantics. Second, multi-scale features are generated by mapping a single focal length value to focal length features and concatenating them with intermediate features of different scales in relative depth estimation. Finally, relative depths and multi-scale features are jointly fed into an absolute depth estimation network. In addition, a new pipeline is developed to augment the diversity of focal lengths of public datasets, which are often captured with cameras of the same or similar focal lengths. Our model is trained on augmented NYUDv2 and tested on three unseen datasets. Our model considerably improves the generalization ability of depth estimation by 41%/13% (RMSE) with/without data augmentation compared with five recent SOTAs and well alleviates the deformation problem in 3D reconstruction. Notably, our model well maintains the accuracy of depth estimation on original NYUDv2.

Illumination Controllable Dehazing Network based on Unsupervised Retinex Embedding

On the one hand, the dehazing task is an illposedness problem, which means that no unique solution exists. On the other hand, the dehazing task should take into account the subjective factor, which is to give the user selectable dehazed images rather than a single result. Therefore, this paper proposes a multi-output dehazing network by introducing illumination controllable ability, called IC-Dehazing. The proposed IC-Dehazing can change the illumination intensity by adjusting the factor of the illumination controllable module, which is realized based on the interpretable Retinex theory. Moreover, the backbone dehazing network of IC-Dehazing consists of a Transformer with double decoders for high-quality image restoration. Further, the prior-based loss function and unsupervised training strategy enable IC-Dehazing to complete the parameter learning process without the need for paired data. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed IC-Dehazing, quantitative and qualitative experiments are conducted on image dehazing, semantic segmentation, and object detection tasks. Code is available at https://github.com/Xiaofeng-life/ICDehazing.

NaturalSpeech 2: Latent Diffusion Models are Natural and Zero-Shot Speech and Singing Synthesizers

Scaling text-to-speech (TTS) to large-scale, multi-speaker, and in-the-wild datasets is important to capture the diversity in human speech such as speaker identities, prosodies, and styles (e.g., singing). Current large TTS systems usually quantize speech into discrete tokens and use language models to generate these tokens one by one, which suffer from unstable prosody, word skipping/repeating issue, and poor voice quality. In this paper, we develop NaturalSpeech 2, a TTS system that leverages a neural audio codec with residual vector quantizers to get the quantized latent vectors and uses a diffusion model to generate these latent vectors conditioned on text input. To enhance the zero-shot capability that is important to achieve diverse speech synthesis, we design a speech prompting mechanism to facilitate in-context learning in the diffusion model and the duration/pitch predictor. We scale NaturalSpeech 2 to large-scale datasets with 44K hours of speech and singing data and evaluate its voice quality on unseen speakers. NaturalSpeech 2 outperforms previous TTS systems by a large margin in terms of prosody/timbre similarity, robustness, and voice quality in a zero-shot setting, and performs novel zero-shot singing synthesis with only a speech prompt. A Reinforcement Learning-assisted Genetic Programming Algorithm for Team Formation Problem Considering Person-Job Matching

An efficient team is essential for the company to successfully complete new projects. To solve the team formation problem considering person-job matching (TFP-PJM), a 0-1 integer programming model is constructed, which considers both person-job matching and team members' willingness to communicate on team efficiency, with the person-job matching score calculated using intuitionistic fuzzy numbers. Then, a reinforcement learning-assisted genetic programming algorithm (RL-GP) is proposed to enhance the quality of solutions. The RL-GP adopts the ensemble population strategies. Before the population evolution at each generation, the agent selects one from four population search modes according to the information obtained, thus realizing a sound balance of exploration and exploitation. In addition, surrogate models are used in the algorithm to evaluate the formation plans generated by individuals, which speeds up the algorithm learning process. Afterward, a series of comparison experiments are conducted to verify the overall performance of RL-GP and the effectiveness of the improved strategies within the algorithm. The hyper-heuristic rules obtained through efficient learning can be utilized as decision-making aids when forming project teams. This study reveals the advantages of reinforcement learning methods, ensemble strategies, and the surrogate model applied to the GP framework. The diversity and intelligent selection of search patterns along with fast adaptation evaluation, are distinct features that enable RL-GP to be deployed in real-world enterprise environments.

AUDIT: Audio Editing by Following Instructions with Latent Diffusion Models

Audio editing is applicable for various purposes, such as adding background sound effects, replacing a musical instrument, and repairing damaged audio. Recently, some diffusion-based methods achieved zero-shot audio editing by using a diffusion and denoising process conditioned on the text description of the output audio. However, these methods still have some problems: 1) they have not been trained on editing tasks and cannot ensure good editing effects; 2) they can erroneously modify audio segments that do not require editing; 3) they need a complete description of the output audio, which is not always available or necessary in practical scenarios. In this work, we propose AUDIT, an instruction-guided audio editing model based on latent diffusion models. Specifically, AUDIT has three main design features: 1) we construct triplet training data (instruction, input audio, output audio) for different audio editing tasks and train a diffusion model using instruction and input (to be edited) audio as conditions and generating output (edited) audio; 2) it can automatically learn to only modify segments that need to be edited by comparing the difference between the input and output audio; 3) it only needs edit instructions instead of full target audio descriptions as text input. AUDIT achieves state-of-the-art results in both objective and subjective metrics for several audio editing tasks (e.g., adding, dropping, replacement, inpainting, super-resolution). FoundationTTS: Text-to-Speech for ASR Customization with Generative Language Model

Neural text-to-speech (TTS) generally consists of cascaded architecture with separately optimized acoustic model and vocoder, or end-to-end architecture with continuous mel-spectrograms or self-extracted speech frames as the intermediate representations to bridge acoustic model and vocoder, which suffers from two limitations: 1) the continuous acoustic frames are hard to predict with phoneme only, and acoustic information like duration or pitch is also needed to solve the one-to-many problem, which is not easy to scale on large scale and noise datasets; 2) to achieve diverse speech output based on continuous speech features, complex VAE or flow-based models are usually required. In this paper, we propose FoundationTTS, a new speech synthesis system with a neural audio codec for discrete speech token extraction and waveform reconstruction and a large language model for discrete token generation from linguistic (phoneme) tokens. Specifically, 1) we propose a hierarchical codec network based on vector-quantized auto-encoders with adversarial training (VQ-GAN), which first extracts continuous frame-level speech representations with fine-grained codec, and extracts a discrete token from each continuous speech frame with coarse-grained codec; 2) we jointly optimize speech token, linguistic tokens, speaker token together with a large language model and predict the discrete speech tokens autoregressively. Experiments show that FoundationTTS achieves a MOS gain of +0.14 compared to the baseline system. In ASR customization tasks, our method achieves 7.09\% and 10.35\% WERR respectively over two strong customized ASR baselines.
