SN 2018agk: A Prototypical Type Ia Supernova with a Smooth Power-law Rise in Kepler (K2)

We present the 30-min cadence Kepler/K2 light curve of the Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) SN 2018agk, covering approximately one week before explosion, the full rise phase and the decline until 40 days after peak. We additionally present ground-based observations in multiple bands within the same time range, including the 1-day cadence DECam observations within the first $\sim$5 days after the first light. The Kepler early light curve is fully consistent with a single power-law rise, without evidence of any bump feature. We compare SN 2018agk with a sample of other SNe~Ia without early excess flux from the literature. We find that SNe Ia without excess flux have slowly-evolving early colors in a narrow range ($g-i\approx -0.20\pm0.20$ mag) within the first $\sim 10$ days. On the other hand, among SNe Ia detected with excess, SN 2017cbv and SN 2018oh tend to be bluer, while iPTF16abc's evolution is similar to normal SNe Ia without excess in $g-i$. We further compare the Kepler light curve of SN 2018agk with companion-interaction models, and rule out the existence of a typical non-degenerate companion undergoing Roche-lobe overflow at viewing angles smaller than $45^{\circ}$.

Transformer-Unet: Raw Image Processing with Unet

Medical image segmentation have drawn massive attention as it is important in biomedical image analysis. Good segmentation results can assist doctors with their judgement and further improve patients' experience. Among many available pipelines in medical image analysis, Unet is one of the most popular neural networks as it keeps raw features by adding concatenation between encoder and decoder, which makes it still widely used in industrial field. In the mean time, as a popular model which dominates natural language process tasks, transformer is now introduced to computer vision tasks and have seen promising results in object detection, image classification and semantic segmentation tasks. Therefore, the combination of transformer and Unet is supposed to be more efficient than both methods working individually. In this article, we propose Transformer-Unet by adding transformer modules in raw images instead of feature maps in Unet and test our network in CT82 datasets for Pancreas segmentation accordingly. We form an end-to-end network and gain segmentation results better than many previous Unet based algorithms in our experiment. We demonstrate our network and show our experimental results in this paper accordingly.

WRICNet:A Weighted Rich-scale Inception Coder Network for Multi-Resolution Remote Sensing Image Change Detection

Majority models of remote sensing image changing detection can only get great effect in a specific resolution data set. With the purpose of improving change detection effectiveness of the model in the multi-resolution data set, a weighted rich-scale inception coder network (WRICNet) is proposed in this article, which can make a great fusion of shallow multi-scale features, and deep multi-scale features. The weighted rich-scale inception module of the proposed can obtain shallow multi-scale features, the weighted rich-scale coder module can obtain deep multi-scale features. The weighted scale block assigns appropriate weights to features of different scales, which can strengthen expressive ability of the edge of the changing area. The performance experiments on the multi-resolution data set demonstrate that, compared to the comparative methods, the proposed can further reduce the false alarm outside the change area, and the missed alarm in the change area, besides, the edge of the change area is more accurate. The ablation study of the proposed shows that the training strategy, and improvements of this article can improve the effectiveness of change detection.

On the RIS Manipulating Attack and Its Countermeasures in Physical-layer Key Generation

Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS) is a new paradigm that enables the reconfiguration of the wireless environment. Based on this feature, RIS can be employed to facilitate Physical-layer Key Generation (PKG). However, this technique could also be exploited by the attacker to destroy the key generation process via manipulating the channel features at the legitimate user side. Specifically, this paper proposes a new RIS-assisted Manipulating attack (RISM) that reduces the wireless channel reciprocity by rapidly changing the RIS reflection coefficient in the uplink and downlink channel probing step in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. The vulnerability of traditional key generation technology based on channel frequency response (CFR) under this attack is analyzed. Then, we propose a slewing rate detection method based on path separation. The attacked path is removed from the time domain and a flexible quantization method is employed to maximize the Key Generation Rate (KGR). The simulation results show that under RISM attack, when the ratio of the attack path variance to the total path variance is 0.17, the Bit Disagreement Rate (BDR) of the CFR-based method is greater than 0.25, and the KGR is close to zero. In addition, the proposed detection method can successfully detect the attacked path for SNR above 0 dB in the case of 16 rounds of probing and the KGR is 35 bits/channel use at 23.04MHz bandwidth.

Intelligent Reflecting Surface-Assisted Secret Key Generation In Multi-antenna Network

Physical-layer key generation (PKG) can generate symmetric keys between two communication ends based on the reciprocal uplink and downlink channels. By smartly reconfiguring the radio signal propagation, intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) is able to improve the secret key rate of PKG. However, existing works involving IRS-assisted PKG are concentrated in single-antenna wireless networks. So this paper investigates the problem of PKG in the IRS-assisted multiple-input single-output (MISO) system, which aims to maximize the secret key rate by optimally designing the IRS passive beamforming. First, we analyze the correlation between channel state information (CSI) of eavesdropper and legitimate ends and derive the expression of the upper bound of secret key rate under passive eavesdropping attack. Then, an optimal algorithm for designing IRS reflecting coefficients based on Semi-Definite Relaxation (SDR) and Taylor expansion is proposed to maximize the secret key rate. Numerical results show that our optimal IRS-assisted PKG scheme can achieve much higher secret key rate when compared with two benchmark schemes.

Constraining Type Ia Supernova Delay Time with Spatially Resolved Star Formation Histories

We present the delay time distribution (DTD) estimates of Type Ia supernovae (SNe~Ia) using spatially resolved SN~Ia host galaxy spectra from MUSE and MaNGA. By employing a grouping algorithm based on k-means and earth mover's distances (EMD), we separated the host galaxy star formation histories (SFHs) into spatially distinct regions and used maximum likelihood method to constrain the DTD of SNe Ia progenitors. When a power-law model of the form $DTD(t)\propto t^{s} (t>τ)$ is used, we found an SN rate decay slope $s=-1.41^{+0.32}_{-0.33}$ and a delay time $τ=120^{+142}_{-83} Myr$ . Moreover, we tested other DTD models such as a broken power law model and a two-component power law model, and found no statistically significant support to these alternative models.

The Tsinghua University-Ma Huateng Telescopes for Survey: Overview and Performance of the System

Over the past decade, time-domain astronomy in optical bands has developed rapidly with the operations of some wide-field survey facilities. However, most of these surveys are conducted with only a single band, and simultaneous color information is usually unavailable for the objects monitored during the survey. Here we present introductions to the system of Tsinghua University-Ma Huateng Telescopes for Survey (TMTS), which consists of an array of four optical telescopes installed on a single equatorial mount. Such a system is designed to get multiband photometry simultaneously for stars and transients discovered during the survey. The optics of each telescope is a modified Hamilton-Newtonian system, covering the wavelengths from 400 to 900 nm, with a field of view (FoV) of about 4.5 deg2 and a plate scale of 1.86"/pixel when combining with a 4K*4K QHY4040 CMOS detector. The TMTS system can have a FoV of about 9 deg2 when monitoring the sky with two bands (i.e., SDSS g and r filters) at the same time, and a maximum FoV of ~18 deg2 when four telescopes monitor different sky areas in monochromatic filter mode. For an exposure time of 60 s, the average 3σ detection limit of the TMTS system can reach at ~19.4 mag in Luminous filter and at ~18.7 mag in SDSS r filter. The preliminary discovery obtained during the first few months' survey is briefly discussed. As this telescope array is located at the Xinglong Observatory of NAOC, it can have an excellent synergy with the spectroscopic survey by the LAMOST (with a FoV of about 20 deg2) at the same site, which will benefit the studies of stellar and binary physics besides the transient sciences.

Some classes of power functions with low c-differential uniformity over finite fields

Functions with low c-differential uniformity have optimal resistance to some types of differential cryptanalysis. In this paper, we investigate the c-differential uniformity of power functions over finite fields. Based on some known almost perfect nonlinear functions, we present several classes of power functions $f(x)=x^d$ with $_{c}Δ_f\leq3$. Especially, two new classes of perfect c-nonlinear power functions are proposed.

Artificial Intelligence Assisted Inversion (AIAI) of Synthetic Type Ia Supernova Spectra

We generate $\sim$ 100,000 model spectra of Type Ia Supernovae (SNIa) to form a spectral library for the purpose of building an Artificial Intelligence Assisted Inversion (AIAI) algorithm for theoretical models. As a first attempt, we restrict our studies to time around $B$-band maximum and compute theoretical spectra with a broad spectral wavelength coverage from 2000 $-$ 10000 ${\rm Å}$ using the code TARDIS. Based on the library of theoretically calculated spectra, we construct the AIAI algorithm with a Multi-Residual Convolutional Neural Network (MRNN) to retrieve the contributions of different ionic species to the heavily blended spectral profiles of the theoretical spectra. The AIAI is found to be very powerful in distinguishing spectral patterns due to coupled atomic transitions and has the capacity of quantitatively measuring the contributions from different ionic species. By applying the AIAI algorithm to a set of well observed SNIa spectra, we demonstrate that the model can yield powerful constraints on the chemical structures of these SNIa. Using the chemical structures deduced from AIAI, we successfully reconstructed the observed data, thus confirming the validity of the method. We show that the light curve decline rate of SNIa is correlated with the amount of $^{56}$Ni above the photosphere in the ejecta. We detect a clear decrease of $^{56}$Ni mass with time that can be attributed to its radioactive decay. Our Code and model spectra are made available on the website \href{https://github.com/GeronimoChen/AIAI-Supernova}{https://github.com/GeronimoChen/AIAI-Supernova}.

Anharmonicity and scissoring modes in the negative thermal expansion materials ScF$_3$ and CaZrF$_6$

We use a symmetry-motivated approach to analysing X-ray pair distribution functions to study the mechanism of negative thermal expansion in two ReO$_3$-like compounds; ScF$_3$ and CaZrF$_6$. Both average and local structure suggest that it is the flexibility of M-F-M linkages (M = Ca, Zr, Sc) due to dynamic rigid and semi-rigid "scissoring" modes that facilitates the observed NTE behaviour. The amplitudes of these dynamic distortions are greater for CaZrF$_6$ than for ScF$_3$, which corresponds well with the larger magnitude of the thermal expansion reported in the literature for the former. We show that this flexbility is enhanced in CaZrF$_6$ due to the rock-salt ordering mixing the characters of two of these scissoring modes. Additionally, we show that in ScF$_3$ anharmonic coupling between the modes responsible for the structural flexibility and the rigid unit modes contributes to the unusually high NTE behaviour in this material.

Giant Negative Thermal Expansion Induced by the Synergistic Effects of Ferroelectrostriction and Spin-Crossover in PbTiO3-Based Perovskites

The discovery of unusual negative thermal expansion (NTE) provides the opportunity to control the common but much desired property of thermal expansion, which is valuable not only in scientific interests but also in practical applications. However, most of the available NTE materials are limited to a narrow temperature range, and the NTE effect is generally weakened by means of various modifications. Here, we report an enhanced NTE effect that occurs over a wide temperature range (αV = -5.24 * 10-5 °C^-1, 25-575 ° C), and this NTE effect is accompanied by an abnormal enhanced tetragonality, a large spontaneous polarization, and a G-type antiferromagnetic ordering in the present perovskite-type ferroelectric of (1-x)PbTiO3-xBiCoO3. Specifically, for the composition of 0.5PbTiO3-0.5BiCoO3, an extensive volumetric contraction of ~4.8 % has been observed near the Curie temperature of 700 °C, which represents the highest level in PbTiO3-based ferroelectrics. According to our experimental and theoretical results, the giant NTE originates from a synergistic effect of the ferroelectrostriction and spin-crossover of cobalt on the crystal lattice. The actual NTE mechanism is contrasted with previous functional NTE materials, in which the NTE is simply coupled with one ordering such as electronic, magnetic, or ferroelectric ordering. The present study sheds light on the understanding of NTE mechanisms and it attests that NTE could be simultaneouslycoupled with different orderings, which will pave a new way toward the design of large NTE materials.

Constructions of involutions over finite fields

An involution over finite fields is a permutation polynomial whose inverse is itself. Owing to this property, involutions over finite fields have been widely used in applications such as cryptography and coding theory. As far as we know, there are not many involutions, and there isn't a general way to construct involutions over finite fields. This paper gives a necessary and sufficient condition for the polynomials of the form $x^rh(x^s)\in \bF_q[x]$ to be involutions over the finite field~$\bF_q$, where $r\geq 1$ and $s\,|\, (q-1)$. By using this criterion we propose a general method to construct involutions of the form $x^rh(x^s)$ over $\bF_q$ from given involutions over the corresponding subgroup of $\bF_q^*$. Then, many classes of explicit involutions of the form $x^rh(x^s)$ over $\bF_q$ are obtained.

Data Acquisition System for CSNS Neutron Beam Monitor

In Chinese Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS), proton beam is used to hit metal tungsten target, and then high flux neutrons are generated for experiments on instruments. For neutron flux spectrum correction, boron-coated GEM, lithium glass and 3He are used as neutron beam monitor in instruments. To be integrated into neutron instrument control, a new DAQ software for neutron beam monitor is developed, called NEROS (Neutron Event Readout System). NEROS is based on EPICS V4 and a unified data format for CSNS neutron beam monitor is defined. The framework and software design of NEROS is introduced in this paper, including real-time data readout, data processing, data visualization and data storage in Nexus format. The performance is evaluated through offline test, X-ray test and 252Cf test. The deployment of NEROS and its running result in CSNS instrument commissioning are also introduced in this paper.

The Proton Beam Real-time Monitor System in CSNS

In Chinese Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS), proton beam is used to hit metal tungsten target, and then high flux neutron are generated for experiments on instruments. For neutron flux spectrum correction, the current of proton beam is for each instrument. A real time monitor system is developed in CSNS, to monitor, broadcast and record each pulse of proton. Each proton pulse charge is measured and marked with high-precision timestamp. Then, the result of measurement will be broadcasted to control room and each neutron instrument. In control room, the proton charge of each pulse is listened and stored in database by agent program for offline use. The high-precision timestamp can be used to proton charge and neutron data alignment in time scale. The architecture of proton beam monitor system is introduced in this paper. And the performance of this system is evaluated in this paper.

Optical Observations of LIGO Source GW 170817 by the Antarctic Survey Telescopes at Dome A, Antarctica

The LIGO detection of gravitational waves (GW) from merging black holes in 2015 marked the beginning of a new era in observational astronomy. The detection of an electromagnetic signal from a GW source is the critical next step to explore in detail the physics involved. The Antarctic Survey Telescopes (AST3), located at Dome A, Antarctica, is uniquely situated for rapid response time-domain astronomy with its continuous night-time coverage during the austral winter. We report optical observations of the GW source (GW~170817) in the nearby galaxy NGC 4993 using AST3. The data show a rapidly fading transient at around 1 day after the GW trigger, with the $i$-band magnitude declining from $17.23\pm0.13$ magnitude to $17.72\pm0.09$ magnitude in $\sim 1.8$ hour. The brightness and time evolution of the optical transient associated with GW~170817 are broadly consistent with the predictions of models involving merging binary neutron stars. We infer from our data that the merging process ejected about $\sim 10^{-2}$ solar mass of radioactive material at a speed of up to $30\%$ the speed of light.

Dirac-Point Solitons in Nonlinear Optical Lattices

The discovery of a new type of solitons occuring in periodic systems without photonic bandgaps is reported. Solitons are nonlinear self-trapped wave packets. They have been extensively studied in many branches of physics. Solitons in periodic systems, which have become the mainstream of soliton research in the past decade, are localized states supported by photonic bandgaps. In this Letter, we report the discovery of a new type of solitons located at the Dirac point beyond photonic bandgaps. The Dirac point is a conical singularity of a photonic band structure where wave motion obeys the famous Dirac equation. These new solitons are sustained by the Dirac point rather than photonic bandgaps, thus provides a sort of advance in conceptual understanding over the traditional gap solitons. Apart from their theoretical impact within soliton theory, they have many potential uses because such solitons have dramatic stability characteristics and are possible in both Kerr material and photorefractive crystals that possess self-focusing and self-defocusing nonlinearities. The new results elegantly reveal that traditional photonic bandgaps are not required when Dirac points are accessible. The findings enrich the soliton family and provide valuable information for studies of nonlinear waves in many branches of physics, including hydrodynamics, plasma physics, and Bose Einstein condensates.

Further results on differentially 4-uniform permutations over $\F_{2^{2m}}$

In this paper, we present several new constructions of differentially 4-uniform permutations over $\F_{2^{2m}}$ by modifying the values of the inverse function on some subsets of $\F_{2^{2m}}$. The resulted differentially 4-uniform permutations have high nonlinearities and algebraic degrees, which provide more choices for the design of cryptographic substitution boxes.

Multiferroic interfaces composed of d0 perovskites oxides

We investigate the electronic, ferroelectric and magnetic properties of KTaO3/PbTiO3 interfaces by using conventional density functional theory (DFT) and advanced DFT such as hybrid functional HSE06. We show that doped holes in valence bands or electrons in conduction bands give rise to ferromagnetism at the interfaces. The ferromagnetic states are ground states for both hole-doped (p-type) and electron-doped (n-type) interfaces by comparison with their corresponding nonmagnetic and antiferromagnetic states. Carriers (holes or electrons) concentrate near the interface to screen the polarization charge and thus the concentration of carrier varies with the ferroelectric polarization. Furthermore, the interface magnetization, which is nearly proportional to the concentration of carrier, can be tuned by ferroelectric polarization reversal, leading to strong intrinsic magnetoelectric effects at the interface of originally nonmagnetic KTaO3 and PbTiO3. Interestingly, a ferromagnetic-nonmagnetic transition tuned by an applied electric field can be realized at the p-type interface. This suggests an illuminating approach to multiferroic materials beyond conventional single-phase multiferroics and multi-phase multiferroics such as ferroelectric/ferromagnet heterostructures. The KTaO3/PbTiO3 interfaces may be promising in future multiferroic devices applications.
