Angle-dependent pair production in the polarized two-photon Breit-Wheeler process

The advent of laser-driven high-intensity $γ$-photon beams has opened up new opportunities for designing advanced photon-photon colliders. Such colliders have the potential to produce a large yield of linear Breit-Wheeler (LBW) pairs in a single shot, which offers a unique platform for studying the polarized LBW process. In our recent work [Phys. Rev. D 105, L071902(2022)], we investigated the polarization characteristics of LBW pair production in CP $γ$-photon collisions. To fully clarify the polarization effects involving both CP and LP $γ$-photons, here we further investigate the LBW process using the polarized cross section with explicit azimuthal-angle dependence due to the base rotation of photon polarization vectors. We accomplished this by defining a new spin basis for positrons and electrons, which enables us to decouple the transverse and longitudinal spin components of $e^\pm$. By means of analytical calculations and Monte Carlo simulations, we find that the linear polarization of photon can induce the highly angle-dependent pair yield and polarization distributions. The comprehensive knowledge of the polarized LBW process will also open up avenues for investigating the higher-order photon-photon scattering, the laser-driven quantum electrodynamic plasmas and the high-energy astrophysics.

Gluonic nature of the newly observed state $X(2600)$

Motivated by the newly observed resonance $X(2600)$ by BESIII Collaboration, we examine the trigluon glueball interpretation for it in the framework of QCD sum rules. We evaluate the mass spectra of the trigluon glueballs with quantum numbers $0^{-+}$ and $2^{-+}$ up to dimension 8 condensate in the operator product expansion. Our numerical results indicate that the mass of the $2^{-+}$ trigluon glueball is about $2.66\pm 0.06$ GeV, which is consistent with the mass of the X(2600) within the uncertainties, while $0^{-+}$ has a mass of $2.01\pm0.14$ GeV. The possible decay channels of the $2^{-+}$ state are analyzed, which are crucial in decoding $X(2600)$'s internal structure and are hopefully measurable in BESIII, BEllEII, PANDA, and LHCb experiments.

Mass Predictions of Vector ($1^{--}$) Double-gluon Heavy Quarkonium Hybrids from QCD Sum Rules

In this work, we study the $1^{--}$ double-gluon charmonium ($\bar{c}ggc$) and bottomonium ($\bar{b} gg b$) hybrids in terms of QCD sum rules. We find that the mass of $\bar{c}ggc$ hybrid lies in $M_{H_{c}}$ = $5.33 \sim 5.90$ GeV, while in the bottom sector the mass of $\bar{b}ggb$ hybrid may be situated in $M_{H_b} = 11.20 \sim 11.68$ GeV. The contributions up to dimension eight at leading order of $α_s$ (LO) in the operator product expansion are taken into account in the calculation. The double-gluon charmonium hybrid meson predicted in this work can decay into a pair of charmed mesons or a pair of charmed mesons together with a light meson. Especially, we propose to search for $\bar{c}ggc$ hybrid with $I^G(J^{PC})= 0^-(1^{--})$ in their decay channels $D \bar{D}/D^* \bar{D}/D^{*} \bar{D}^{*}$ with P wave and $D^* \bar{D}^{*} π/D^* \bar{D}^*η/D \bar{D}ρ/D \bar{D}ω$ with S wave, which may be accessible in Belle II, PANDA, Super-B, GlueX, and LHCb experiments.

The Winning Solution to the iFLYTEK Challenge 2021 Cultivated Land Extraction from High-Resolution Remote Sensing Image

Extracting cultivated land accurately from high-resolution remote images is a basic task for precision agriculture. This report introduces our solution to the iFLYTEK challenge 2021 cultivated land extraction from high-resolution remote sensing image. The challenge requires segmenting cultivated land objects in very high-resolution multispectral remote sensing images. We established a highly effective and efficient pipeline to solve this problem. We first divided the original images into small tiles and separately performed instance segmentation on each tile. We explored several instance segmentation algorithms that work well on natural images and developed a set of effective methods that are applicable to remote sensing images. Then we merged the prediction results of all small tiles into seamless, continuous segmentation results through our proposed overlap-tile fusion strategy. We achieved the first place among 486 teams in the challenge.

Signatures of linear Breit-Wheeler pair production in polarized $γγ$ collisions

Laser-driven brilliant controllable polarized $γ$-photon sources open the way for designing compact $γγ$ collider, which enable the large yield of linear Breit-Wheeler (LBW) pairs in a single shot and thus provide an opportunity for the investigation of polarized LBW process. In this work we investigate the polarization characteristics of LBW pair production via our developed spin-resolved binary collision simulation method. Polarization of $γ$-photons modifies the kinematics of scattering particles and induces the correlated energy-angle shift of LBW pairs, and the latter's polarization characteristic depends on the helicity configures of scattering particles. Our method confirms that the polarized $γγ$ collider with an asymmetric setup can be performed with currently achievable laser facilities to produce abundant polarized LBW pairs, fulfilling the detection power of polarimetries. The precise knowledge of polarized LBW process is in favor of the calibration and monitor of polarized $γγ$ collider, and could enhance the opacity of $γ$-photons in high-energy astrophysical objects to exacerbate the inconsistency between some observations and standard models.

Determination of the up/down-quark mass within QCD sum rules in the scalar channel

In this work, we determine up/down-quark mass $m_{q=u/d}$ in the isoscalar scalar channel from both the Shifman-Vainshtein-Zakharov (SVZ) and the Monte-Carlo-based QCD sum rules. The relevant spectral function, including the contributions from the $f_0(500)$, $f_0(980)$ and $f_0(1370)$ resonances, is determined from a sophisticated $U(3)$ chiral study. Via the traditional SVZ QCD sum rules, we give the prediction to the average light-quark mass $m_q(2 \, \text{GeV})=\frac{1}{2}(m_u(2 \, \text{GeV}) + m_d(2 \, \text{GeV}))=(3.46^{+0.16}_{-0.22} \pm 0.33) \, \text{MeV}$. Meanwhile, by considering the uncertainties of the input QCD parameters and the spectral functions of the isoscalar scalar channel, we obtain $m_q (2\, \text{GeV}) = (3.44 \pm 0.14 \pm 0.32) \, \text{MeV}$ from the Monte-Carlo-based QCD sum rules. Both results are perfectly consistent with each other, and nicely agree with the Particle Data Group value within the uncertainties.

Effect of near-field distribution on transmission characteristics of fiber-fed Fabry-Perot etalons

Fiber-fed etalons are widely employed in advanced interferometric instruments such as gravitational-wave detectors, ultrastable lasers and calibration reference for high-precision spectrographs. We demonstrate that variation in near-field distribution of the feeding fiber would deteriorate the spectrum precision of the fiber-fed Fabry-Perot etalon, especially when precision at the order of 3 * 10-10 or higher is required. The octagonal fiber reinforced with double scrambler could greatly improve the steadiness and uniformness of the near-field distribution. When building wavelength calibrators for sub-m s-1 precision radial-velocity instruments, the double scrambler should be considered meticulously.

Scalar Fully-heavy Tetraquark States $QQ^\prime \bar{Q} \bar{Q^\prime}$ in QCD Sum Rules

Very recently, the LHCb Collaboration observed distinct structures with the $cc\bar{c}\bar{c}$ in the $J/Ψ$-pair mass spectrum. In this work, we construct four scalar ($J^{PC} = 0^{++}$) $[8_c]_{Q\bar{Q^\prime}}\otimes [8_c]_{Q^\prime \bar{Q}}$ type currents to investigate the fully-heavy tetraquark state $Q Q^\prime \bar{Q} \bar{Q^\prime}$ in the framework of QCD sum rules, where $Q=c, b$ and $Q^\prime = c, b$. Our results suggest that the broad structure around 6.2-6.8 GeV can be interpreted as the $0^{++}$ octet-octet tetraquark states with masses $6.44\pm 0.11$ GeV and $6.52\pm 0.10$ GeV, and the narrow structure around $6.9$ GeV can be interpreted as the $0^{++}$ octet-octet tetraquark states with masses $6.87\pm 0.11$ GeV and $6.96\pm 0.11$ GeV, respectivley. Extending to the b-quark sector, the masses of their fully-bottom partners are found to be around 18.38-18.59 GeV. Additionally, we also analyze the spectra of the $[c\bar{c}][b\bar{b}]$ and $[c\bar{b}] [b \bar{c}]$ tetraquark states, which lie in the range of 12.51-12.74 GeV and 12.49-12.81 GeV, respectively.

Revisiting the determining fraction of glueball component in $f_0$ mesons via radiative decays of $J/ψ$

QCD theory predicts the existence of glueballs, but so far all experimental endeavors have failed to identify any such states. To remedy this discrepancy between QCD, which has proven to be a successful theory for strong interactions, and the failure of experimental searches for glueballs, one is tempted to accept the promising interpretation that the glueballs mix with regular $q\bar q$ states of the same quantum numbers. The lattice estimate of the masses of pure $0^{++}$ glueballs ranges from 1 to 2 GeV, which is the region of the $f_0$ family. Thus many authors suggest that the $f_0$ mesonic series is an ideal place to study possible mixtures of glueballs and $q\bar q$. In this paper, following the strategy proposed by Close, Farrar and Li, we try to determine the fraction of glueball components in $f_0$ mesons using the measured mass spectra and the branching ratios of $J/ψ$ radiative decays into $f_0$ mesons. Since the pioneering papers by Close et al., more than 20 years has elapsed and more accurate measurements have been done by several experimental collaborations, so it is time to revisit this interesting topic using new data. We suppose $f_0(500)$ and $f_0(980)$ to be pure quark states, while for $f_0(1370)$, $f_0(1500)$ and $f_0(1710)$, to fit both the experimental data of $J/ψ$ radiative decay and their mass spectra, glueball components are needed. Moreover, the mass of the pure $0^{++}$ glueball is phenomenologically determined.

End-to-End Face Parsing via Interlinked Convolutional Neural Networks

Face parsing is an important computer vision task that requires accurate pixel segmentation of facial parts (such as eyes, nose, mouth, etc.), providing a basis for further face analysis, modification, and other applications. Interlinked Convolutional Neural Networks (iCNN) was proved to be an effective two-stage model for face parsing. However, the original iCNN was trained separately in two stages, limiting its performance. To solve this problem, we introduce a simple, end-to-end face parsing framework: STN-aided iCNN(STN-iCNN), which extends the iCNN by adding a Spatial Transformer Network (STN) between the two isolated stages. The STN-iCNN uses the STN to provide a trainable connection to the original two-stage iCNN pipeline, making end-to-end joint training possible. Moreover, as a by-product, STN also provides more precise cropped parts than the original cropper. Due to these two advantages, our approach significantly improves the accuracy of the original model. Our model achieved competitive performance on the Helen Dataset, the standard face parsing dataset. It also achieved superior performance on CelebAMask-HQ dataset, proving its good generalization. Our code has been released at https://github.com/aod321/STN-iCNN.

The backbone-residual model. Accurately characterising the instrumental profile of a fibre-fed echelle spectrograph

Context: Instrumental profile (IP) is the basic property of a spectrograph. Accurate IP characterisation is the prerequisite of accurate wavelength solution. It also facilitates new spectral acquisition methods such as the forward modeling and deconvolution. Aims: We investigate an IP modeling method for the fibre-fed echelle spectrograph with the emission lines of the ThAr lamp, and explore the method to evaluate the accuracy of IP characterisation. Methods: The backbone-residual (BR) model is put forward and tested on the fibre-fed High Resolution Spectrograph (HRS) at the Chinese Xinglong 2.16-m Telescope, which is the sum of the backbone function and the residual function. The backbone function is a bell-shaped function to describe the main component and the spatial variation of IP. The residual function, which is expressed as the cubic spline function, accounts for the difference between the bell-shaped function and the actual IP. The method of evaluating the accuracy of IP characterisation is based on the spectral reconstruction and Monte Carlo simulation. Results: The IP of HRS is characterised with the BR model, and the accuracy of the characterised IP reaches 0.006 of the peak value of the backbone function. This result demonstrates that the accurate IP characterisation has been achieved on HRS with the BR model, and the BR model is an excellent choice for accurate IP characterisation of fibre-fed echelle spectrographs.

Hidden-bottom and -charm hexaquark states in QCD sum rules

In this paper, we investigate the spectra of the prospective hidden-bottom and -charm hexaquark states with quantum numbers $J^{PC }= 0^{++}$, $0^{-+}$, $1^{++}$ and $1^{--}$ in the framework of QCD sum rules. By constructing appropriate interpreting currents, the QCD sum rules analyses are performed up to dimension 12 of the condensates. Results indicate that there exist two possible baryonium states in $b$-quark sector with masses $11.84 \pm 0.22$ GeV and $11.72 \pm 0.26$ GeV for $0^{++}$ and $1^{--}$, respectively. The corresponding hidden-charm partners are found lying respectively at $5.19 \pm 0.24$ GeV and $4.78 \pm 0.23$ GeV. Note that these baryonium states are all above the dibaryon thresholds, which enables their dominant decay modes could be measured at BESIII, BELLEII, and LHCb detectors.

Doubly Heavy Tetraquarks in QCD Sum Rules

In the framework of QCD Sum Rules we investigate the $q q^\prime \bar{Q} \bar{Q}$ tetraquark structure with quantum number $J^P = 1^+$, which are embedded in two types of configurations, the $[8_c]_{q \bar{Q}} \otimes [8_c]_{q^\prime \bar{Q}}$ and $[1_c]_{q \bar{Q}} \otimes [1_c]_{q^\prime \bar{Q}}$ with $Q = b, c$, $q = u$, and $q^\prime = d, s$. Our finding confirms the Lattice QCD result that the bottom tetraquark states could exist and their masses are evaluated. In the calculation, the non-perturbative condensate contributions up to dimension eight in operator product expansion are considered, and those terms linear to the strange quark mass $m_s$ are kept. It is found that for octet-octet configuration the masses of potential tetraquark states are about $11.28$ GeV for the $ud\bar{b}\bar{b}$ system, and $11.31$ and $11.34$ GeV for the $us\bar{b}\bar{b}$ system, which are above the corresponding two-meson thresholds. For molecular configuration, the corresponding masses are found below the thresholds, that is $10.36$ GeV and $10.48$ GeV, respectively. The possible tetraquark decay channels are analyzed and the strong decay rates are evaluated. The mass dependence on the radiative correction and the condensates is estimated. Moreover, the doubly charmed tetraquark states are also considered.

Principal Model Analysis Based on Partial Least Squares

Motivated by the Bagging Partial Least Squares (PLS) and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) algorithms, we propose a Principal Model Analysis (PMA) method in this paper. In the proposed PMA algorithm, the PCA and the PLS are combined. In the method, multiple PLS models are trained on sub-training sets, derived from the original training set based on the random sampling with replacement method. The regression coefficients of all the sub-PLS models are fused in a joint regression coefficient matrix. The final projection direction is then estimated by performing the PCA on the joint regression coefficient matrix. The proposed PMA method is compared with other traditional dimension reduction methods, such as PLS, Bagging PLS, Linear discriminant analysis (LDA) and PLS-LDA. Experimental results on six public datasets show that our proposed method can achieve better classification performance and is usually more stable.

Tetraquark States with Open Flavors

In this work, we estimate the masses of tetraquark states with four different flavors by virtue of QCD sum rules, in both $b$ and $c$ sectors. We construct four $[8_c]_{\bar{b} s} \otimes [8_c]_{\bar{d} u}$ tetraquark currents with $J^P = 0^+$, and then perform analytic calculation up to dimension eight in the Operator Product Expansion (OPE). We keep terms which are linear in the strange quark mass $m_s$, and in the end find two possible tetraquark states with masses $(5.57 \pm 0.15)$ and $(5.58 \pm 0.15)$ GeV. We find that their charmed-partner masses lie in $(2.54 \pm 0.13)$ and $(2.55 \pm 0.13)$ GeV, respectively and are hence accessible in experiments like BESIII and Belle.

Mass Spectra of $0^{+-}$, $1^{-+}$, and $2^{+-}$ Exotic Glueballs

With appropriate interpolating currents the mass spectra of $0^{+-}$, $1^{-+}$, and $2^{+-}$ oddballs are studied in the framework of QCD sum rules (QCDSR). We find there exits one stable $0^{+-}$ oddball with mass of $4.57 \pm 0.13 \, \text{GeV}$, and one stable $2^{+-}$ oddball with mass of $6.06 \pm 0.13 \, \text{GeV}$, whereas, no stable $1^{-+}$ oddball shows up. The possible production and decay modes of these glueballs with unconventional quantum numbers are analyzed, which are hopefully measurable in either BELLEII, PANDA, Super-B or LHCb experiments.

Enhancing community detection by local structural information

Many real-world networks such as the gene networks, protein-protein interaction networks and metabolic networks exhibit community structures, meaning the existence of groups of densely connected vertices in the networks. Many local similarity measures in the networks are closely related to the concept of the community structures, and may have positive effect on community detection in the networks. Here, various local similarity measures are used to extract the local structural information and then are applied to community detection in the networks by using the edge-reweighting strategy. The effect of the local similarity measures on community detection is carefully investigated and compared in various networks. The experimental results show that the local similarity measures are crucial to the improvement for the community detection methods, while the positive effect of the local similarity measures is closely related to the networks under study and the applied community detection methods.
