Analog of photon-assisted tunneling originated from dark Floquet state in periodically modulated waveguide arrays

We theoretically report an analog of photon-assisted tunneling (PAT) in a periodically driven lattice array without a static biased potential by studying a three-channel waveguide system. This analog of PAT can be achieved by only periodically modulating the top waveguide and adjusting the distance between the bottom and its adjacent waveguide. It is numerically shown that the PAT resonances also exist in the five-channel waveguide system and probably exist in the waveguide arrays with other odd numbers of waveguides, but they will become weak as the number of waveguides increases. With origin different from traditional PAT, this type of PAT found in our work is closely linked to the existence of the zero-energy (dark) Floquet states. It is readily observable under currently accessible experimental conditions and may be useful for controlling light propagation in waveguide arrays.

Coherent destruction of tunneling in a lattice array with controllable boundary

We have investigated how the dynamics of a quantum particle initially localized in the left boundary site under periodic driving can be manipulated via control of the right boundary site of a lattice array. Because of the adjustable coupling between the right boundary site and its nearest-neighbor, we can realize either coherent destruction of tunneling to coherent tunneling (CDT-CT) transition or coherent tunneling to coherent destruction of tunneling (CT-CDT) transition, by driving or moving the right boundary site while keeping the left boundary site driven by a periodically oscillating field with a fixed driving parameter. In particular, the transition direction shows odd-even sensitivity to the number of lattice sites. We have also revealed that our proposed CDT-CT transition is robust against the second order coupling (SOC) between next-nearest-neighbor sites in odd-$N$-site systems, whereas localization can be significantly enhanced by SOC in even-$N$-site systems. More interestingly, it is found destruction and revival of CDT observable in non-high-frequency regimes. Our results can be readily verified within the capacity of current experiments.

Homological degrees of representations of categories with shift functors

Let $k$ be a commutative Noetherian ring and $\underline{\mathscr{C}}$ be a locally finite $k$-linear category equipped with a self-embedding functor of degree 1. We show under a moderate condition that finitely generated torsion representations of $\underline{\mathscr{C}}$ are super finitely presented (that is, they have projective resolutions each term of which is finitely generated). In the situation that these self-embedding functors are genetic functors, we give upper bounds for homological degrees of finitely generated torsion modules. These results apply to quite a few categories recently appearing in representation stability theory. In particular, when $k$ is a field of characteristic 0, we obtain another upper bound for homological degrees of finitely generated $\mathrm{FI}$-modules.

Weak convergence of regular Dirichlet subspaces

In this paper we shall prove the weak convergence of the associated diffusion processes of regular subspaces with monotone characteristic sets for a fixed Dirichlet form. More precisely, given a fixed 1-dimensional diffusion process and a sequence of its regular subspaces, if the characteristic sets of regular subspaces are decreasing or increasing, then their associated diffusion processes are weakly convergent to another diffusion process. This is an extended result of [13].

Derived equivalences between triangular matrix algebras

In this paper we study derived equivalences between triangular matrix algebras using certain classical recollements. We show that special properties of these recollements actually characterize triangular matrix algebras, and describe methods to construct tilting modules and tilting complexes inducing derived equivalences between them.

Regular subspaces of skew product diffusions

Roughly speaking, the regular subspace of a Dirichlet form is also a regular Dirichlet form on the same state space. It inherits the same form of original Dirichlet form but possesses a smaller domain. What we are concerned in this paper are the regular subspaces of associated Dirichlet forms of skew product diffusions. A skew product diffusion $X$ is a symmetric Markov process on the product state space $E_1\times E_2$ and expressed as \[ X_t=(X^1_t,X^2_{A_t}),\quad t\geq 0, \] where $X^i$ is a symmetric diffusion on $E_i$ for $i=1,2$, and $A$ is a positive continuous additive functional of $X^1$. One of our main results indicates that any skew product type regular subspace of $X$, say \[ Y_t=(Y^1_t,Y^2_{\tilde{A}_t}),\quad t\geq 0, \] can be characterized as follows: the associated smooth measure of $\tilde{A}$ is equal to that of $A$, and $Y^i$ corresponds to a regular subspace of $X^i$ for $i=1,2$. Furthermore, we shall make some discussions on rotationally invariant diffusions on $\mathbf{R}^d\setminus \{0\}$, which are special skew product diffusions on $(0,\infty)\times S^{d-1}$. Our main purpose is to extend a regular subspace of rotationally invariant diffusion on $\mathbf{R}^d\setminus \{0\}$ to a new regular Dirichlet form on $\mathbf{R}^d$.

Killing transform on regular Dirichlet subspaces

In this paper, we shall consider the killing transform induced by a multiplicative functional on regular Dirichlet subspaces of a fixed Dirichlet form. Roughly speaking, a regular Dirichlet subspace is a closed subspace with Dirichlet and regular properties of fixed Dirichlet space. By using the killing transforms, our main results indicate that the big jump part of fixed Dirichlet form is not essential for discussing its regular Dirichlet subspaces. This fact is very similar to the status of killing measure when we consider the questions about regular Dirichlet subspaces in [6].

Noetherian property of infinite EI categories

It is known that finitely generated FI-modules over a field of characteristic 0 are Noetherian. We generalize this result to the abstract setting of an infinite EI category satisfying certain combinatorial conditions.

The $α$-orthogonal complements of regular subspaces of 1-dim Brownian motion

Roughly speaking, a regular subspace of a Dirichlet form is a subspace, which is also a regular Dirichlet form, on the same state space. In particular, the domain of regular subspace is a closed subspace of the Hilbert space induced by the domain and $α$-inner product of original Dirichlet form. We shall investigate the orthogonal complement of regular subspace of 1-dimensional Brownian motion in this paper. Our main results indicate that this orthogonal complement has a very close connection with the $α$-harmonic equation under Neumann boundary condition.

Regular Dirichlet subspaces and Mosco convergence

In this paper, we shall explore the Mosco convergence on regular subspaces of one-dimensional irreducible and strongly local Dirichlet forms. We find that if the characteristic sets of regular subspaces are convergent, then their associated regular subspaces are convergent in sense of Mosco. Finally, we shall show some examples to illustrate that the Mosco convergence does not preserve any global properties of Dirichlet forms.

Regular subspaces of Dirichlet forms

The regular subspaces of a Dirichlet form are the regular Dirichlet forms that inherit the original form but possess smaller domains. The two problems we are concerned are: (1) the existence of regular subspaces of a fixed Dirichlet form, (2) the characterization of the regular subspaces if exists. In this paper, we will first research the structure of regular subspaces for a fixed Dirichlet form. The main results indicate that the jumping and killing measures of each regular subspace are just equal to that of the original Dirichlet form. By using the independent coupling of Dirichlet forms and some celebrated probabilistic transformations, we will study the existence and characterization of the regular subspaces of local Dirichlet forms.

On the Symmetry of Polar Codes for Symmetric Binary-Input Discrete Memoryless Channels

In this paper, we study the symmetry of polar codes on symmetric binary-input discrete memoryless channels (B-DMC). The symmetry property of polar codes is originally pointed out in Arikan's work for general B-DMC channels. With the symmetry, the output vector $y_1^N$ ($N$ be the block length) can be divided into equivalence classes in terms of their transition probabilities. In this paper, we present a new frame of analysis on the symmetry of polar codes for B-DMC channels. Theorems are provided to characterize the symmetries among the received vectors.

Bivariate Revuz measures and the Feynman-Kac formula on semi-Dirichlet forms

In this paper, we shall first establish the theory of bivariate Revuz correspondence of positive additive functionals under a semi-Dirichlet form, which is associated with a right Markov process $X$ satisfying the sector condition but without duality. We extend most of the classical results about the bivariate Revuz measures under the duality assumptions to the case of semi-Dirichlet forms. As the main results of this paper, we prove that for any exact multiplicative functional $M$ of $X$, the subprocess $X^M$ of $X$ killed by $M$ also satisfies the sector condition and we then characterize the semi-Dirichlet form associated with $X^M$ by using the bivariate Revuz measure, which extends the classical Feynman-Kac formula.

On the Error Performance of Systematic Polar Codes

Systematic polar codes are shown to outperform non-systematic polar codes in terms of the bit-error-rate (BER) performance. However theoretically the mechanism behind the better performance of systematic polar codes is not yet clear. In this paper, we set the theoretical framework to analyze the performance of systematic polar codes. The exact evaluation of the BER of systematic polar codes conditioned on the BER of non-systematic polar codes involves in $2^{NR}$ terms where $N$ is the code block length and $R$ is the code rate, resulting in a prohibitive number of computations for large block lengths. By analyzing the polar code construction and the successive-cancellation (SC) decoding process, we use a statistical model to quantify the advantage of systematic polar codes over non-systematic polar codes, so called the systematic gain in this paper. A composite model is proposed to approximate the dominant error cases in the SC decoding process. This composite model divides the errors into independent regions and coupled regions, controlled by a coupling coefficient. Based on this model, the systematic gain can be conveniently calculated. Numerical simulations are provided in the paper showing very close approximations of the proposed model in quantifying the systematic gain.

Homological dimensions of crossed products

In this paper we consider several homological dimensions of crossed products $A _α ^σ G$, where $A$ is a left Noetherian ring and $G$ is a finite group. We revisit the induction and restriction functors in derived categories, generalizing a few classical results for separable extensions. The global dimension and finitistic dimension of $A ^σ _α G$ are classified: global dimension of $A ^σ _α G$ is either infinity or equal to that of $A$, and finitistic dimension of $A ^σ _α G$ coincides with that of $A$. A criterion for skew group rings to have finite global dimensions is deduced. Under the hypothesis that $A$ is a semiprimary algebra containing a complete set of primitive orthogonal idempotents closed under the action of a Sylow $p$-subgroup $S \leqslant G$, we show that $A$ and $A _α ^σ G$ share the same homological dimensions under extra assumptions, extending the main results of the author in some previous papers.

Representations of Modular Skew Group Algebras

In this paper we study representations of skew group algebras $ΛG$, where $Λ$ is a connected, basic, finite-dimensional algebra (or a locally finite graded algebra) over an algebraically closed field $k$ with characteristic $p \geqslant 0$, and $G$ is an arbitrary finite group each element of which acts as an algebra automorphism on $Λ$. We characterize skew group algebras with finite global dimension or finite representation type, and classify the representation types of transporter categories for $p \neq 2,3$. When $Λ$ is a locally finite graded algebra and the action of $G$ on $Λ$ preserves grading, we show that $ΛG$ is a generalized Koszul algebra if and only if so is $Λ$.

Finitistic dimensions and piecewise hereditary property of skew group algebras

Let $Λ$ be a finite dimensional algebra and $G$ be a finite group whose elements act on $Λ$ as algebra automorphisms. Under the assumption that $Λ$ has a complete set $E$ of primitive orthogonal idempotents, closed under the action of a Sylow $p$-subgroup $S \leqslant G$. If the action of $S$ on $E$ is free, we show that the skew group algebra $ΛG$ and $Λ$ have the same finitistic dimension, and have the same strong global dimension if the fixed algebra $Λ^S$ is a direct summand of the $Λ^S$-bimodule $Λ$. Using a homological characterization of piecewise hereditary algebras proved by Happel and Zacharia, we deduce a criterion for $ΛG$ to be piecewise hereditary.

A generalized Koszul theory and its relation to the classical theory

Let $A = \bigoplus_{i \geqslant 0} A_i$ be a graded locally finite $k$-algebra such that $A_0$ is an arbitrary finite-dimensional algebra satisfying a certain splitting condition. In this paper we develop a generalized Koszul theory preserving many classical results. Moreover, we define a quotient graded algebra $\bar{A} = \bigoplus_{i \geqslant 0} \bar{A}_i$ and show that $A$ is a generalized Koszul algebra if and only if $\bar{A}$ is a classical Koszul algebra and a projective $A_0$-module. We also describe an application of this theory to the extension algebras of standard modules of standardly stratified algebras.
