Optimized entropic uncertainty relations for multiple measurements

Recently, an entropic uncertainty relation for multiple measurements has been proposed by Liu et al. in [Phys. Rev. A 91, 042133 (2015)]. However, the lower bound of the relation is not always tight with respect to different measurements. Herein, we improve the lower bound of the entropic uncertainty relation for multiple measurements, termed as simply constructed bound (SCB). We verify that the SCB is tighter than Liu et al.'s result for arbitrary mutually unbiased basis measurements, which might play a fundamental and crucial role in practical quantum information processing. Moreover, we optimize the SCB by considering mutual information and the Holevo quantity, and propose an optimized SCB (OSCB). Notably, the proposed bounds are extrapolations of the behavior of two measurements to a larger collection of measurements. It is believed that our findings would shed light on entropy-based uncertainty relations in the multiple measurement scenario and will be beneficial for security analysis in quantum key distributions.

Strong tunable spin-spin interaction in a weakly coupled nitrogen vacancy spin-cavity electromechanical system

The long coherence time of a single nitrogen vacancy (NV) center spin in diamond is a crucial advantage for implementing quantum information processing. However, the realization of strong coupling between single NV spins is challenging. Here we propose a method to greatly enchance the interaction between two single NV spins in diamond which are only weakly coupled to an electromechanical cavity. Owing to the presence of a critical point for the linearized electromechanical subsystem, the coupling between a single NV spin and the high-frequency polariton (formed by the mechanical and cavity modes) can be fully decoupled, but the coupling between the single NV spin and the low-frequency polariton is however greatly enhanced. Thus, AC Stark shift of the single NV spin can be measured. With the low-frequency polariton as a quantum bus, a strong coupling between two single NV centers is achievable. This effective strong coupling can ensure coherent quantum-information exchange between two spin qubits in the weakly coupled spin-cavity elecromechanical system.

Necessary and sufficient criterion of steering for two-qubit T states

Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) steering is the ability that an observer persuades a distant observer to share entanglement by making local measurements. Determining a quantum state is steerable or unsteerable remains an open problem. Here, we derive a new steering inequality with infinite measurements corresponding to an arbitrary two-qubit T state, from consideration of EPR steering inequalities with N projective measurement settings for each side. In fact, the steering inequality is also a sufficient criterion for guaranteering that the T state is unsteerable. Hence, the steering inequality can be viewed as a necessary and sufficient criterion to distinguish whether the T state is steerable or unsteerable. In order to reveal the fact that the set composed of steerable states is the strict subset of the set made up of entangled states, we prove theoretically that all separable T states can not violate the steering inequality. Moreover, we put forward a method to estimate the maximum violation from concurrence for arbitrary two-qubit T states, which indicates that the T state is steerable if its concurrence exceeds 1/4.

Robust stimulated Raman shortcut-to-adiabatic passage by invariant-based optimal control

The stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) shows an efficient technique that accurately transfers population between two discrete quantum states with the same parity, in three-level quantum systems based on adiabatic evolution. This technique has widely theoretical and experimental applications in many fields of physics, chemistry, and beyond. Here, we present a generally robust approach to speed up STIRAP with invariant-based shortcut to adiabaticity. By controlling the dynamical process, we inversely design a family of Hamiltonians that can realize fast and accurate population transfer from the first to the third level, while the systematic error is largely suppressed in general. Furthermore, a detailed trade-off relation between the population of the intermediate state and the amplitudes of Rabi frequencies in the transfer process is illustrated. These results provide an optimal route toward manipulating the evolution of three-level quantum systems in future quantum information processing.

Experimental demonstration of complementarity relations between quantum steering criteria

The ability that one system immediately affects another one by using local measurements is regarded as quantum steering, which can be detected by various steering criteria. Recently, Mondal et al. [Phys. Rev. A 98, 052330 (2018)] derived the complementarity relations of coherence steering criteria, and revealed that the quantum steering of system can be observed through the average coherence of subsystem. Here, we experimentally verify the complementarity relations between quantum steering criteria by employing two-photon Bell-like states and three Pauli operators. The results demonstrate that if prepared quantum states can violate two setting coherence steering criteria and turn out to be steerable states, then it cannot violate the complementary settings criteria. Three measurement settings inequality, which establish a complementarity relation between these two coherence steering criteria, always holds in experiment. Besides, we experimentally certify that the strengths of coherence steering criteria dependent on the choice of coherence measure. In comparison with two setting coherence steering criteria based on l1 norm of coherence and relative entropy of coherence, our experimental results show that the steering criterion based on skew information of coherence is more stronger in detecting the steerability of quantum states. Thus, our experimental demonstrations can deepen the understanding of the relation between the quantum steering and quantum coherence.

Constraint relation between steerability and concurrence for two-qubit states

Entanglement and steering are used to describe quantum inseparabilities. Steerable states form a strict subset of entangled states. A natural question arises concerning how much territory steerability occupies entanglement for a general two-qubit entangled state. In this work, we investigate the constraint relation between steerability and concurrence by using two kinds of evolutionary states and randomly generated two-qubit states. By combining the theoretical and numerical proofs, we obtain the upper and lower boundaries of steerability. And the lower boundary can be used as a sufficient criterion for steering detection. Futhermore, we consider a special kind of mixed state transformed by performing an arbitrary unitary operation on Werner-like state, and propose a sufficient steering criterion described by concurrence and purity.

Improved tripartite uncertainty relation with quantum memory

Uncertainty principle is a striking and fundamental feature in quantum mechanics distinguishing from classical mechanics. It offers an important lower bound to predict outcomes of two arbitrary incompatible observables measured on a particle. In quantum information theory, this uncertainty principle is popularly formulized in terms of entropy. Here, we present an improvement of tripartite quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty relation. The uncertainty's lower bound is derived by considering mutual information and Holevo quantity. It shows that the bound derived by this method will be tighter than the lower bound in [Phys. Rev. Lett. 103, 020402 (2009)]. Furthermore, regarding a pair of mutual unbiased bases as the incompatibility, our bound will become extremely tight for the three-qubit $\emph{X}$-state system, completely coinciding with the entropy-based uncertainty, and can restore Renes ${\emph{et al.}}$'s bound with respect to arbitrary tripartite pure states. In addition, by applying our lower bound, one can attain the tighter bound of quantum secret key rate, which is of basic importance to enhance the security of quantum key distribution protocols.

Experimental observation the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen Steering based on the detection of entanglement

The Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) steering is an intermediate quantum nonlocality between entanglement and Bell nonlocality, which plays an important role in quantum information processing tasks. In the past few years, the investigations concerning EPR steering have been demonstrated in a series of experiments. However, these studies rely on the relevant steering inequalities and the choices of measurement settings. Here, we experimentally verify the EPR steering via entanglement detection without using any steering inequality and measurement setting. By constructing two new states from a two-qubit target state, we observe the EPR steering by detecting the entanglement of these new states. The results show that the entanglement of the newly constructed states can be regarded as a new kind of steering witness for target states. Compared to the results of Xiao et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 118, 140404 (2017)], we find that the ability of detecting EPR steering in our scenario is stronger than two-setting projective measurements, which can observe more steerable states. Hence, our demonstrations can deepen the understanding of the connection between the EPR steering and entanglement.

Experimental investigation of entropic uncertainty relations and coherence uncertainty relations

Uncertainty relation usually is one of the most important features in quantum mechanics, and is the backbone of quantum theory, which distinguishes from the rule in classical counterpart. Specifically, entropy-based uncertainty relations are of fundamental importance in the region of quantum information theory, offering one nontrivial bound of key rate towards quantum key distribution. In this work, we experimentally demonstrate the entropic uncertainty relations and coherence-based uncertainty relations in an all-optics platform. By means of preparing two kinds of bipartite initial states with high fidelity, i.e., Bell-like states and Bell-like diagonal states, we carry on local projective measurements over a complete set of mutually unbiased bases on the measured subsystem. In terms of quantum tomography, the density matrices of the initial states and the post-measurement states are reconstructed. It shows that our experimental results coincide with the theoretical predictions very well. Additionally, we also verify that the lower bounds of both the entropy-based and coherence-based uncertainty can be tightened by imposing the Holevo quantity and mutual information, and the entropic uncertainty is inversely correlated with the coherence. Our demonstrations might offer an insight into their uncertainty relations and their connection to quantum coherence in quantum information science, which might be applicable to the security analysis of quantum key distributions.

Experimental certification of steering criterion based on general entropic uncertainty relation

Quantum steering describes the phenomenon that one system can be immediately influenced by another with local measurements. It can be detected by the violation of a powerful and useful steering criterion from general entropic uncertainty relation. This criterion, in principle, can be evaluated straightforwardly and achieved by only probability distributions from a finite set of measurement settings. Herein, we experimentally verify the steering criterion by means of the two-photon Werner-like states and three Pauli measurements. The results indicate that quantum steering can be verified by the criterion in a convenient way. In particular, it is no need to perform the usual quantum state tomography in experiment, which reduces the required experimental resources greatly. Moreover, we demonstrate that the criterion is stronger than the linear one for the detecting quantum steering of the Werner-like states.

Inequality relation between entanglement and Bell nonlocality for arbitrary two-qubit states

Entanglement and Bell nonlocality are used to describe quantum inseparabilities. Bell-nonlocal states form a strict subset of entangled states. A natural question arises concerning how much territory Bell nonlocality occupies entanglement for a general two-qubit entangled state. In this work, we investigate the relation between entanglement and Bell nonlocality by using lots of randomly generated two-qubit states, and give out a constraint inequality relation between the two quantum resources. For studying the upper or lower boundary of the inequality relation, we discover maximally (minimally) nonlocal entangled states, which maximize (minimize) the value of the Bell nonlocality for a given value of the entanglement. Futhermore, we consider a special kind of mixed state transformed by performing an arbitrary unitary operation on werner state. It is found that the special mixed state's entanglement and Bell nonlocality are related to ones of a pure state transformed by the unitary operation performed on the Bell state.

Quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty relations

Uncertainty relations take a crucial and fundamental part in the frame of quantum theory, and are bringing on many marvelous applications in the emerging field of quantum information sciences. Especially, as entropy is imposed into the uncertainty principle, entropy-based uncertainty relations lead to a number of applications including quantum key distribution, entanglement witness, quantum steering, quantum metrology, and quantum teleportation. Herein, the history of the development of the uncertainty relations is discussed, especially focusing on the recent progress with regard to quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty relations and dynamical characteristics of the measured uncertainty in some explicit physical systems. The aims are to help deepen the understanding of entropic uncertainty relations and prompt further explorations for versatile applications of the relations on achieving practical quantum tasks.

Experimental investigation of nonlocal advantage of quantum coherence

Nonlocal advantage of quantum coherence (NAQC) based on coherence complementarity relations is generally viewed as a stronger nonclassical correlation than Bell nonlocality. An arbitrary two-qubit state with NAQC must be an entangled state, which demonstrates that the criterion of NAQC can also be regarded as an entanglement witness. In this paper, we experimentally investigate the NAQC for Bell-diagonal states with high fidelity in an optics-based platform. We perform local measurements on a subsystem in three mutually unbiased bases and reconstruct the density matrices of the measured states by quantum state tomography process. By analyzing characteristic of the $l_1$ norm, relative entropy and skew information of coherence with parameters of quantum states, NAQC for the quantum states is accurately captured, and it shows that our experimental results are well compatible with the theoretical predictions. It is worth mentioning that quantum states with NAQC would have higher entanglement, and thus NAQC could be expected to be a kind of useful physical resource for quantum information processing.

Universal trade-off relation between coherence and intrinsic concurrence for two-qubit states

Entanglement and coherence are two essential quantum resources for quantum information processing. A natural question arises of whether there are direct link between them. And by thinking about this question, we propose a new measure for quantum state that contains concurrence and is called intrinsic concurrence. Interestingly, we discover that the intrinsic concurrence is always complementary to coherence. Note that the intrinsic concurrence is related to the concurrence of a special pure state ensemble. In order to explain the trade-off relation more intuitively, we apply it in some composite systems composed by a single-qubit state coupling four typical noise channels with the aim at illustrating their mutual transformation relationship between their coherence and intrinsic concurrence. This unified trade-off relation will provide more flexibility in exploiting one resource to perform quantum tasks and also provide credible theoretical basis for the interconversion of the two important quantum resources.

The intrinsic relations of quantum resources in multiparticle systems

Quantum resources play crucial roles for displaying superiority in many quantum communication and computation tasks. To reveal the intrinsic relations hidden in these quantum resources, many efforts have been made in recent years. In this work, we investigate the correlations of the tripartite W-type states based on bipartite quantum resources. The interrelations among the degree of coherence, concurrence, Bell nonlocality and purity are presented. Considering Bell nonlocal and Bell local (satisfied the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt inequality) states for the two-qubit subsystems derived from the tripartite W-type states, we find exact lower and upper boundaries of the degree of coherence versus concurrence. Interestingly, exact relation among the degree of coherence, concurrence and purity is obtained. Moreover, coherence is also closely related to entanglement in two specific scenarios: the tripartite W-type state under decoherence and a practical system for a renormalized spin-1/2 chain.

Effects of Hawking radiation on the entropic uncertainty in a Schwarzschild space-time

Heisenberg uncertainty principle describes a basic restriction on observer's ability of precisely predicting the measurement for a pair of non-commuting observables, and virtually is at the core of quantum mechanics. We herein aim to study entropic uncertainty relation under the background of the Schwarzschild black hole and its control. Explicitly, we develop dynamical features of the measuring uncertainty via entropy in a practical model where a stationary particle interacts with its surrounding environment while another particle --- serving as a quantum memory reservoir --- undergoes freefall in the vicinity of the event horizon of the Schwarzschild space-time. It shows higher Hawking temperatures would give rise to an inflation of the entropic uncertainty on the measured particle. This is suggestive the measurement uncertainty is strongly correlated with degree of mixing present in the evolving particles. Additionally, based on information flow theory, we provide a physical interpretation for the observed dynamical behaviors related with the entropic uncertainty in such a realistic scenario. Finally, an efficient strategy is proposed to reduce the uncertainty by non-tracing-preserved operations. Therefore, our explorations may improve the understanding of the dynamic entropic uncertainty in a curved space-time, and illustrate predictions of quantum measurements in relativistic quantum information sciences.

Dynamics and recovery of genuine multipartite Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering and genuine multipartite nonlocality for a dissipative Dirac system via Unruh effect

In this paper, we investigate the dynamics behaviors of genuine multipartite Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering (GMS) and genuine multipartite nonlocality (GMN), and explore how to recover the lost GMS and GMN under a mixed decoherence system. Explicitly, the decoherence system can be modeled by that a tripartite Werner-type state suffers from the non-Markovian regimes and one subsystem of the tripartite is under a non-inertial frame. The conditions for steerable and nonlocal states can be obtained with respect to the tripartite Werner-type state established initially. GMS and GMN are very fragile and vulnerable under the influence of the collective decoherence. GMS and GMN will vanish with growing intensity of the Unruh effect and the non-Markovian reservoir. Besides, all achievable GMN's states are steerable, while not every steerable state (GMS's state) can achieve nonlocality. It means that the steering-nonlocality hierarchy is still tenable and GMN's states are a strict subset of the GMS's states in such a scenario. Subsequently, we put forward an available methodology to recover the damaged GMS and GMN. It turns out that the lost GMS and GMN can be effectively restored, and the ability of GMS and GMN to suppress the collective decoherence can be enhanced.

The enhancement of quantum entanglement under an open Dirac system with Hawking effect in Schwarzschild space-time

In this letter, we mainly investigate how to enhance the damaged quantum entanglement under an open Dirac system with Hawking effect within Schwarzschild space-time. We consider that particle A hold by Alice undergoes generalized amplitude damping noise in a flat space-time and another particle B by Bob entangled with A is under a Schwarzschild space-time. Subsequently, we put forward a physical scheme to recover the damaged quantum entanglement by prior weak measurement on subsystem A before the interaction with the decoherence noise followed by post-measurement filtering operation. The results indicate that our scheme can effectively recover the damaged quantum entanglement affected by the Hawking effect and the noisy channel. Thus, our work might be beneficial to understand the dynamic behavior of quantum state and recover the damaged quantum entanglement with open Dirac systems under Hawking effect in the background of Schwarzschild black hole.
