Algebraically hyperbolic manifolds have finite automorphism groups

A projective manifold $M$ is algebraically hyperbolic if there exists a positive constant $A$ such that the degree of any curve of genus $g$ on $M$ is bounded from above by $A(g-1)$. A classical result is that Kobayashi hyperbolicity implies algebraic hyperbolicity. It is known that Kobayashi hyperbolic manifolds have finite automorphism groups. Here we prove that, more generally, algebraically hyperbolic projective manifolds have finite automorphism groups.

Hyper-Kähler Fourfolds Fibered by Elliptic Products

Every fibration of a projective hyper-Kähler fourfold has fibers which are Abelian surfaces. In case the Abelian surface is a Jacobian of a genus two curve, these have been classified by Markushevich. We study those cases where the Abelian surface is a product of two elliptic curves, under some mild genericity hypotheses.

Twistor spaces and compact manifolds admitting both Kähler and non-Kähler structures

In this expository paper we review some twistor techniques and recall the problem of finding compact differentiable manifolds that can carry both Kähler and non-Kähler complex structures. Such examples were constructed independently by M. Atiyah, A. Blanchard and E. Calabi in the $1950$'s. In the $1980$'s V. Tsanov gave an example of a simply connected manifold that admits both Kähler and non-Kähler complex structures - the twistor space of a $K3$ surface. Here we show that the quaternion twistor space of a hyperkähler manifold has the same property.

Algebraic non-hyperbolicity of hyperkahler manifolds with Picard rank greater than one

A projective manifold is algebraically hyperbolic if the degree of any curve is bounded from above by its genus times a constant, which is independent from the curve. This is a property which follows from Kobayashi hyperbolicity. We prove that hyperkahler manifolds are non algebraically hyperbolic when the Picard rank is at least 3, or if the Picard rank is 2 and the SYZ conjecture on existence of Lagrangian fibrations is true. We also prove that if the automorphism group of a hyperkahler manifold is infinite then it is algebraically non-hyperbolic.

On the Kobayashi pseudometric, complex automorphisms and hyperkaehler manifolds

We define the Kobayashi quotient of a complex variety by identifying points with vanishing Kobayashi pseudodistance between them and show that if a compact complex manifold has an automorphism whose order is infinite, then the fibers of this quotient map are nontrivial. We prove that the Kobayashi quotients associated to ergodic complex structures on a compact manifold are isomorphic. We also give a proof of Kobayashi's conjecture on the vanishing of the pseudodistance for hyperkähler manifolds having Lagrangian fibrations without multiple fibers in codimension one. For a hyperbolic automorphism of a hyperkähler manifold, we prove that its cohomology eigenvalues are determined by its Hodge numbers, compute its dynamical degree and show that its cohomological trace grows exponentially, giving estimates on the number of its periodic points.

Survey of finiteness results for hyperkähler manifolds

This paper is a survey of finiteness results in hyperkähler geometry. We review some classical theorems by Sullivan, Kollár-Matsusaka, Huybrechts, as well as theorems in the recent literature by Charles, Sawon, and joint results of the author with Verbitsky. We also strengthen a finiteness theorem of the author. These are extended notes of the author's talk during the closing conference of the Simons Semester in the Banach Center in Bȩdlewo, Poland.

Finiteness of Lagrangian fibrations with fixed invariants

We prove finiteness of hyperkaehler Lagrangian fibrations in any fixed dimension with fixed Fujiki constant and discriminant of the Beauville-Bogomolov-Fujiki lattice, up to deformation. We also prove finiteness of hyperkähler Lagrangian fibrations with an ample line bundle of a given degree on the general fiber of the fibration.

Families of Lagrangian fibrations on hyperkaehler manifolds

A holomorphic Lagrangian fibration on a holomorphically symplectic manifold is a holomorphic map with Lagrangian fibers. It is known that a given compact manifold admits only finitely many holomorphic symplectic structures, up to deformation. We prove that a given compact manifold with $b_2 \geq 7$ admits only finitely many deformation types of holomorphic Lagrangian fibrations. We also prove that all known hyperkahler manifolds are never Kobayashi hyperbolic.
