Single and Central Diffractive Higgs Production at the LHC

The single and central diffractive production of the Standard Model Higgs boson is computed using the diffractive factorization formalism, taking into account a parametrization for the Pomeron structure function provided by the H1 Collaboration. We compute the cross sections at NLO accuracy for the gluon fusion process, since it is the leading mechanism for the Higgs boson production. The gap survival probability is also introduced to include the rescattering corrections due to spectator particles present in the interaction. The diffractive ratios are predicted for proton-proton collisions at the LHC, since the beam luminosity is favorable to the Higgs boson detection. These results provide updated estimations for the fraction of single and central diffractive events in the LHC kinematical regime.

Higgs boson photoproduction at the LHC

We present the current development of the photoproduction approach for the Higgs boson with its application to $pp$ and $pA$ collisions at the LHC. We perform a different analysis for the Gap Survival Probability, where we consider a probability of 3% and also a more optimistic value of 10% based on the HERA data for dijet production. As a result, the cross section for the exclusive Higgs boson production is about 2 fb and 6 fb in $pp$ collisions and 617 and 2056 fb for $p$Pb collisions, considering the gap survival factor of 3% and 10%, respectively.

Charm and bottom production in inclusive double Pomeron exchange in heavy ion collisions at the LHC

The inclusive double Pomeron exchange cross section for heavy quark pair production is calculated for nucleus-nucleus collisions at the LHC. The present estimate is based on hard diffractive factorization, corrected by absorptive corrections and nuclear effects. The theoretical uncertainties for nuclear collisions are investigated and a comparison to other approaches is presented. The production channels producing a similar final state configuration are discussed as well.

Diffractive Higgs boson photoproduction in Ultraperipheral Collisions at LHC

A new production mechanism for the Standard Model Higgs boson in Ultraperipheral Collisions at LHC, which allows Central Exclusive Diffractive production by Double Pomeron Exchange in photon-proton processes, is presented. The Higgs boson is centrally produced by gluon fusion with two Large Rapidity Gaps emerging in the final state, being the main experimental signature for this process. As already studied for Pomeron-Pomeron and two-photon processes, the Higgs boson photoproduction is studied within this new mechanism in proton-proton ($pp$) and proton-nucleus ($pA$) collisions, where each system has a different dynamics to be taken into account. As a result, this mechanism predicts a production cross section for $pp$ collisions of about 1.8 fb, which is similar to that obtained in Pomeron-Pomeron processes. Besides, in $pPb$ collisions the cross sections have increased to about 0.6 pb, being comparable with the results of two-photon processes in $pAu$ collisions. Therefore, as the Rapidity Gap Survival Probability is an open question in high-energy Physics, an analysis for different values of this probability shows how competitive are the mechanisms in the LHC kinematical regime.

Estimate of the single diffractive heavy quark production in heavy ion collisions at the CERN-LHC

The single diffractive cross section for heavy quarks production is calculated in next-no-leading order (NLO) in nucleus-nucleus collisions. Such processes are expected to occur at the LHC. We start using the hard diffractive factorization formalism, taking into account the recent experimental parameterization for the Pomeron Structure Function (DPDF). Absorptive corrections are accounted by the multiple Pomeron contributions considering a gap survival probability, where its theoretical uncertainty for nuclear collisions is discussed. We estimate the diffractive ratios for single diffraction process in nuclear coherent/incoherent collisions at the LHC.

Diffractive Higgs boson photoproduction in proton-proton collisions

We propose a new approach for the Higgs boson production by Double Pomeron Exchange (DPE) in the Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering, where a color dipole interacts diffractively with the proton by DPE. Applying it to Peripheral Collisions, we predict a cross section around 0.1 fb, which is similar to that obtained from the $γγ$ subprocess. Although this result is lower than the prediction from the KMR approach, our results are competitive with the $γγ$ and Pomeron-Pomeron subprocesses with a more precise proposal for the Gap Survival Probability.

Diffractive quarkonium production in association with a photon at the LHC

The rates for diffractive quarkonium plus prompt-photon associated production at the LHC are estimated. The theoretical framework considered in the J/Psi (or Upsilon) production associated with a direct photon at the hadron collider is the non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization formalism. The corresponding single diffractive cross section is computed based on the hard diffractive scattering factorization supplemented by absorptive corrections. Such processes are sensitive to the gluon content of the Pomeron at small Bjorken-x and they may also be a good place to test the different available mechanisms for quarkonium production at hadron colliders.

Neutral current neutrino-nucleus interactions at high energies

We present a QCD analysis of the neutral current neutrino-nucleus interaction at the small-x region using the color dipole formalism. This phenomenological approach is quite successful in describing experimental results in deep inelastic ep scattering and charged current neutrino-nucleus interactions at high energies. We present theoretical predictions for the relevant structure functions and the corresponding implications for the total NC neutrino cross section.

Higgs boson at LHC: a diffractive opportunity

An alternative process is presented for diffractive Higgs boson production in peripheral $pp$ collisions, where the particles interact through the Double Pomeron Exchange. The event rate is computed as a central-rapidity distribution for Tevatron and LHC energies leading to a result around 0.6 pb, higher than the predictions from previous approaches. Therefore, this result arises as an enhanced signal for the detection of the Higgs boson in hadron colliders. The predictions for the Higgs boson photoproduction are compared to the ones obtained from a similar approach proposed by the Durham group, enabling an analysis of the future developments of its application to $pp$ and $AA$ collisions.

Diffractive Higgs boson photoproduction in $γp$ process

We explore an alternative process for the diffractive Higgs boson production in peripheral pp collisions arising from Double Pomeron Exchange in photon-proton interaction. We introduce the impact factor formalism in order to enable the gluon ladder exchange in the photon-proton subprocess, and to permit the central Higgs production. The event rate for the diffractive Higgs production in central rapidity is estimated to be about 0.6 pb at Tevatron and LHC energies. This result is higher than predictions from other approaches for diffractive Higgs production, showing that the alternative production process leads to an enhanced signal for the detection of the Higgs boson at hadron colliders. Our results are compared to those obtained from a similar approach proposed by the Durham group. In this way we may examine the future developments in its application to pp and AA collisions.

Diffractive Higgs boson photoproduction in peripheral collisions

An alternative process is proposed for the diffractive Higgs boson production in peripheral $pp$ collisions, exploring it through the photon-proton interaction by Double Pomeron Exchange. It is estimated the event rate of the diffractive Higgs production in central rapidity for Tevatron and LHC energies, being of the order of 1 fb, in agreement to the predictions from other diffractive processes. The results are confronted with those obtained from a similar approach of the Durham group.

DIS and the effects of fluctuations: a momentum space analysis

Among the dipole models of deep inelastic scattering at small values of the Bjorken variable $x$, one has been recently proposed which relates the virtual photon-proton cross section to the dipole-proton forward scattering amplitude in momentum space. The latter is parametrized by an expression which interpolates between its behavior at saturation and the travelling wave, ultraviolet, amplitudes predicted by perturbative QCD from the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation. Inspired by recent developments in coordinate space, we use this model to parametrize the proton structure function and confront it to HERA data on $ep$ deep inelastic scattering. Both event-by-event and the physical amplitudes are considered, the latter used to investigate the effect of gluon number fluctuations, beyond the mean-field approximation. We conclude that fluctuations are not present in DIS at HERA energies.

Diffractive hadroproduction of W and Z bosons at high energies

Results from a phenomenological analysis of $W$ and $Z$ hard diffractive hadroproduction at high energies are reported. Using the Regge factorization approach, we consider the recent diffractive parton density functions extracted by the H1 Collaboration at DESY-HERA. In addition, we take into account multiple Pomeron exchange corrections considering a gap survival probability factor. It is find that the ratio of diffractive to non-diffractive boson production is in good agreement with the CDF and D0 data. We make predictions which could be compared to future measurements at the LHC.

QCD Collisional Energy Loss in an Increasingly Interacting Quark Gluon Plasma

The discovery of the jet quenching in central Au + Au collisions at the Relativistic Heavy-ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory has provided clear evidence for the formation of strongly interacting dense matter. It has been predicted to occur due to the energy loss of high energy partons that propagate through the quark gluon plasma. In this paper we investigate the dependence of the parton energy loss due to elastic scatterings in a parton plasma on the value of the strong coupling and its running with the evolution of the system. We analyze different prescriptions for the QCD coupling and calculate the energy and length dependence of the fractional energy loss. Moreover, the partonic quenching factor for light and heavy quarks is estimated. We found that the predicted enhancement of the heavy to light hadrons ($D/π$) ratio is strongly dependent on the running of the QCD coupling constant.

In this contribution we present an exploratory QCD analysis of the neutrino structure functions in charged current DIS using the color dipole formalism. The corresponding dipole cross sections are taken from recent phenomenological and theoretical studies in deep inelastic inclusive production, including nuclear shadowing corrections. The theoretical predictions are compared to the available experimental results in the small-x region.

$γ^*p$ cross section from the dipole model in momentum space

We reproduce the DIS measurements of the proton structure function at high energy from the dipole model in momentum space. To model the dipole-proton forward scattering amplitude, we use the knowledge of asymptotic solutions of the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation, describing high-energy QCD in the presence of saturation effects. We compare our results with the previous analysis in coordinate space and discuss possible extensions of our approach.
