Dilepton distributions at backward rapidities

The dilepton production at backward rapidities in $pAu$ and $pp$ collisions at RHIC and LHC energies is investigated in the dipole approach. The results are shown through the nuclear modification ratio $R_{pA}$ considering transverse momentum and rapidity spectra. The dilepton modification ratio presents interesting behavior at the backward rapidities when compared with the already known forward ones, since it is related with the large $x$ kinematical region that is being probed. The rapidity dependence of the nuclear modification ratio in the dilepton production is strongly dependent on the Bjorken $x$ behavior of the nuclear structure function ratio $R_{F_{2}}=F_{2}^{A}/F_{2}^{p}$. The $R_{pA}$ transverse momentum dependence at backward rapidities is modified due to the large $x$ nuclear effects: at RHIC energies, for instance, the ratio $R_{pA}$ is reduced as $p_T$ increases, presenting an opposite behavior when compared with the forward one. It implies that the dilepton production at backward rapidities should carry information of the nuclear effects at large Bjorken $x$, as well as that it is useful to investigate the $p_T$ dependence of the observables in this kinematical regime.

Gluon propagator in diffractive scattering

In this work, we perform a comparison of the employ of distinct gluon propagators with the experimental data in diffractive processes, $pp$ elastic scattering and light meson photo-production. The gluon propagators are calculated through non-perturbative methods, being justified their use in this class of events, due to the smallness of the momentum transfer. Our results are not able to select the best choice for the modified gluon propagator among the analyzed ones, showing that the application of this procedure in this class of high energy processes, although giving a reasonable fit to the experimental data, should be taken with same caution.

Using dileptons to probe the Color Glass Condensate

The rapidity and transverse momentum dependence of the nuclear modification ratio for dilepton production at RHIC and LHC is presented, calculated in the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) framework. The transverse momentum ratio is compared for two distinct dilepton mass values and a suppression of the Cronin peak is verified even for large mass. The nuclear modification ratio suppression in the dilepton rapidity spectra, as obtained experimentally for hadrons at RHIC, is verified for LHC energies at large transverse momentum, although not present at RHIC energies. The ratio between LHC and RHIC nuclear modification ratios is evaluated in the CGC, showing the large saturation effects at LHC compared with the RHIC results. These results consolidate the dilepton as a most suitable observable to investigate the QCD high density approaches.

Searching the Color Glass Condensate Through $p_T$ Suppression

In this work the rapidity and transverse momentum dependence of the nuclear modification ratio is evaluated for the dilepton production at RHIC and LHC, using the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) framework. The ratio is compared for two distinct dilepton mass values, concerning the transverse momentum distribution, and a suppression of the Cronin peak is verified even for large mass. The nuclear modification ratio suppression in the dilepton rapidity spectra, as obtained for hadrons at RHIC, is verified for LHC energies at large transverse momentum, although not present at RHIC energies. These results consolidate the dilepton as a most suitable observable for QCD high density approaches.

Dynamical gluon mass and $pp$ elastic scattering

The application of a modified gluon propagator and an infrared frozen running co upling constant in the description of the proton-proton elastic scattering is in vestigated. The model based on the exchange of the Pomeron as a pair of non-pert urbative gluons is modified to include the frozen coupling constant in the infra red kinematic region. A good fit to the data of the differential cross section f or different center of mass energies (53 GeV and 1.8 TeV) is obtained.

Dilepton low $p_T$ suppression as an evidence of the Color Glass Condensate

The dilepton production is investigated in proton-nucleus collisions in the forward region using the Color Glass Condensate approach. The transverse momentum distribution ($p_T$), more precisely the low $p_T$ region, where the saturation effects are expected to increase, is analyzed. The ratio between proton-nucleus and proton-proton differential cross section for RHIC and LHC energies is evaluated, showing the effects of saturation at small $p_T$, and presenting a Cronin type peak at moderate $p_T$. These features indicate the dilepton as a most suitable probe to study the properties of the saturated regime and the Cronin effect.

D meson production in d+Au process using a perturbative approach

The D meson production at forward rapidities in d+Au processes is calculated using a pQCD based model, assuming that this treatment could be used as a baseline for distinct dynamical and medium effects. It is analysed how the nuclear effects in the nuclear partonic distributions may affect this process at RHIC and LHC energies. An enhancement in the moderate $q_T$ region for RHIC, due to anti-shadowing in the nuclear medium, is found. Our prediction for LHC suggests that shadowing will suppress the D meson spectra for $q_T<14$ GeV.

Additional $J/Ψ$ Suppression from High Density Effects

At high energies the saturation effects associated to the high parton density should modify the behavior of the observables in proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus scattering. In this paper we investigate the saturation effects in the nuclear $J/Ψ$ production and estimate the modifications in the energy dependence of the cross section as well as in the length of the nuclear medium. In particular, we calculate the ratio of $J/Ψ$ to Drell-Yan cross sections and show that it is strongly modified if the high density effects are included. Moreover, our results are compared with the data from the NA50 Collaboration and predictions for the RHIC and LHC kinematic regions are presented. We predict an additional $J/Ψ$ suppression associated to the high density effects.

Dilepton Transverse Momentum in the Color Dipole Approach

We investigate the Drell-Yan transverse momentum distribution in the framework of the color dipole approach. Special attention is paid to parton saturation effects at high energies. Predictions at LHC energies ($\sqrt{s}=14$ TeV) are given and extrapolated down to ISR energies ($\sqrt{s}=62$ GeV). Unitarity corrections are implemented through the multiple scattering Glauber-Mueller approach and are compared with predictions of the BGBK saturation model.

Investigating the Drell-Yan transverse momentum distribution in the color dipole approach

We study the influence of unitarity corrections on the Drell-Yan transverse momentum distribution within the color dipole approach. These unitarity corrections are implemented through the multiple scattering Glauber-Mueller approach, which is contrasted with a phenomenological saturation model. The process is analyzed for the center of mass energies of the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC, $\sqrt{s}=500$ GeV) and of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC, $\sqrt{s}=14$ TeV). In addition, the results are extrapolated down to current energies of proton-proton collisions, where non-asymptotic corrections to the dipole approach are needed. It is also shown that in the absence of saturation, the dipole approach can be related to the QCD Compton process.

Meson Form Factors and Non-Perturbative Gluon Propagators

The meson (pion and kaon) form factor is calculated in the perturbative framework with alternative forms for the running coupling constant and the gluon propagator in the infrared kinematic region. These modified forms are employed to test the sensibility of the meson form factor to the nonperturbative contributions. Its is a powerful discriminating quantity and the results obtained with a particular choice of modified running coupling constant and gluon propagator have a good agreement with the available data, for both mesons, indicating the robustness of the method of calculation. Nevertheless, nonperturbative aspects may be included in the perturbative framework of calculation of exclusive processes.

Heavy Quark Photoproduction in k_T Factorization Approach

We investigate the heavy quark photoproduction based on the k_T factorization approach, focusing on the results from the saturation model. The deviations in the results using the unintegrated gluon distribution considering the saturation model and the derivative of the collinear gluon distribution are analysed. Total cross sections and p_T distributions are analysed in detail, setting the deviations between the color dipole approximation and the complete semihard approach.

Soft and hard QCD in charmonium production

Hard and soft QCD dynamics are both important in charmonium hadroproduction, as presented here through a next-to-leading order QCD matrix element calculation combined with the colour evaporation model. Observed $x_F$ and $p_\perp$ distributions of $J/ψ$ in hadroproduction are reproduced. Quite similar results can also be obtained with a Monte Carlo event generator where \ccbar pairs are instead produced through leading order matrix elements and the parton shower approximation of higher order processes. The soft dynamics may alternatively be described by the soft colour interaction model. We also discuss the relative rates of different charmonium states and introduce an improved model for mapping the continuous ccbar mass spectrum on the physical charmonium resonances.

Parton saturation effects to the Drell-Yan process in the color dipole picture

We report on the results obtained in the study of the parton saturation effects, taken into account through the multiscattering Glauber-Mueller approach, applied to the Drell-Yan (DY) process described in the color dipole picture. As a main result, one shows that those effects play an important role in the estimates of the DY differential cross section atRHIC energies.

Aspects of the unitarized soft multipomeron approach in DIS and diffraction

We study in detail the main features of the unitarized Regge model (CFKS), recently proposed to describe the small-$Q^2$ domain. It takes into account a two-component description with two types of unitarized contributions: one is the multiple Pomeron exchanges contribution, interacting with the large dipole size configurations, and the other one consists on a unitarized dipole cross section, describing the interaction with the small size dipoles. We compare the resulting dipole cross section to that from the saturation model (GBW).

Describing F_2 through a finite sum of gluon ladders

Electroproduction in deep inelastic scattering at HERA is studied in a model considering a finite sum of gluon ladders, associated with a truncation of the BFKL series. The approach contains the bare two gluon exchange and both one and two rungs contributions. The model is fitted to the data on the inclusive structure function F_2(x,Q^2) in the region x<0.025 and 0.045<Q^2<1500 GeV^2, with a good agreement. Such a description for a large span in Q^2 is obtained through a suitable modeling of the remaining non-perturbative background.
