Higher spins in AdS_5 at one loop: vacuum energy, boundary conformal anomalies and AdS/CFT

We consider general-symmetry higher spin fields in AdS_5 and derive expressions for their one-loop corrections to vacuum energy E and the associated 4d boundary conformal anomaly a-coefficient. We a propose a similar expression for the second conformal anomaly c-coefficient. We show that all the three quantities (E, a, c) computed for N=8 gauged 5d supergravity are -1/2 of the values for N=4 conformal 4d supergravity and also twice the values for N=4 Maxwell multiplet. This gives 5d derivation of the fact that the system of N=4 conformal supergravity and four N=4 Maxwell multiplets is anomaly free. The values of (E, a, c) for the states at level p of Kaluza-Klein tower of 10d type IIB supergravity compactified on S^5 turn out to be equal to those for p copies of N=4 Maxwell multiplets. This may be related to the fact that these states appear in the tensor product of p superdoubletons. Under a natural regularization of the sum over p, the full 10d supergravity contribution is then minus that of the Maxwell multiplet, in agreement with the standard adjoint AdS/CFT duality (SU(n) SYM contribution is n^2-1 of one Maxwell multiplet). We also verify the matching of (E, a, c) for spin 0 and 1/2 boundary theory cases of vectorial AdS/CFT duality. The consistency conditions for vectorial AdS/CFT turn out to be equivalent to the cancellation of anomalies in the closely related 4d conformal higher spin theories. In addition, we study novel example of vectorial AdS/CFT duality when the boundary theory is described by free spin 1 fields and is dual to a particular higher spin theory in AdS_5 containing fields in mixed-symmetry representations. We also discuss its supersymmetric generalizations.

Vectorial AdS_5/CFT_4 duality for spin-one boundary theory

We consider an example of vectorial AdS_5/CFT_4 duality when the boundary theory is described by N free complex or real Maxwell fields. It is dual to a particular ("type C") higher spin theory in AdS_5 containing fields in special mixed-symmetry representations. We extend the study of this theory in arXiv:1410.3273 by deriving the expression for the large N limit of the corresponding singlet-sector partition function on S^1 x S^3. We find that in both complex U(N) and real O(N) invariant cases the form of the one-particle partition function is as required by the AdS/CFT duality. We also demonstrate the matching of the Casimir energy on S^3 by assuming an integer shift in the bulk theory coupling.

New Physics signals from measurable polarization asymmetries at LHC

We propose a new type of Z polarization asymmetry in bottom-Z production at LHC that should be realistically measurable and would provide the determination of the so-called $A_b$ parameter, whose available measured value still appears to be in disagreement with the Standard Model prediction. This polarization can be measured independently of a possible existence of Supersymmetry. If Supersymmetry is found, a second polarization, i.e. the top longitudinal polarization in top-charged Higgs production, would neatly identify the $\tan β$ parameter. In this case, the value of $A_b$ should be in agreement with the Standard Model. If Supersymmetry does not exist, a residual disagreement of $A_b$ from the Standard Model prediction would be a clean signal of New Physics of "non Supersymmetric" origin.

Quantum corrections to spinning superstrings in AdS_3 x S^3 x M^4: determining the dressing phase

We study the leading quantum string correction to the dressing phase in the asymptotic Bethe Ansatz system for superstring in AdS_3 x S^3 x T^4 supported by RR flux. We find that the phase should be different from the BES phase appearing in the AdS_5 x S^5 case. We use the simplest example of a rigid circular string with two equal spins in S^3 and also consider the general approach based on the algebraic curve description. We also discuss the case of the AdS_3 x S^3 x S^3 x S^1 theory and find the dependence of the 1-loop correction to the effective string tension function h(λ) (expected to enter the magnon dispersion relation) on the parameters alpha related to the ratio of the two 3-sphere radii. This correction vanishes in the AdS_3 x S^3 x T^4 case.

Exact computation of one-loop correction to energy of spinning folded string in AdS_5 x S^5

We consider the 1-loop correction to the energy of folded spinning string solution in the AdS_3 part of AdS_5 x S^5. The classical string solution is expressed in terms of elliptic functions so an explicit computation of the corresponding fluctuation determinants for generic values of the spin appears to be a non-trivial problem. We show how it can be solved exactly by using the static gauge expression for the string partition function (which we demonstrate to be equivalent to the conformal gauge one) and observing that all the corresponding second order fluctuation operators can be put into the standard (single-gap) Lamé form. We systematically derive the small spin and large spin expansions of the resulting expression for the string energy and comment on some of their applications.

"Short" spinning strings and structure of quantum AdS_5 x S^5 spectrum

Using information from the marginality conditions of vertex operators for the AdS_5 x S^5 superstring, we determine the structure of the dependence of the energy of quantum string states on their conserved charges and the string tension proportional to lambda^(1/2). We consider states on the leading Regge trajectory in the flat space limit which carry one or two (equal) spins in AdS_5 or S^5 and an orbital momentum in S^5, with Konishi multiplet states being particular cases. We argue that the coefficients in the energy may be found by using a semiclassical expansion. By analyzing the examples of folded spinning strings in AdS_5 and S^5 as well as three cases of circular two-spin strings we demonstrate the universality of transcendental (zeta-function) parts of few leading coefficients. We also show the consistency with target space supersymmetry with different states belonging to the same multiplet having the same non-trivial part of the energy. We suggest, in particular, that a rational coefficient (found by Basso for the folded string using Bethe Ansatz considerations and which, in general, is yet to be determined by a direct two-loop string calculation) should, in fact, be universal.

The relevance of polarized bZ production at LHC

We consider the Z polarization asymmetry A_Z=(sigma(Z_R)-sigma(Z_L))/(sigma(Z_R)+sigma(Z_L)) in the process of associated bZ production at the LHC. We show that in the Standard Model (SM) this quantity is essentially given by its Born approximation, remaining almost unaffected by QCD scales and parton distribution functions variations as well as by electroweak corrections. The theoretical quantity that appears in A_Z is the same that provides the LEP1 Z -> b bbar forward-backward asymmetry, the only measured observable still in some contradiction with the SM prediction. In this sense, A_Z would provide the possibility of an independent verification of the possible SM discrepancy, which could reach, if consistency with LEP1 measurements is imposed, values of the relative ten percent size.

The Left-Right asymmetry of top quarks in associated top-charged Higgs bosons at the LHC as a probe of the tan$β$ parameter

Many extensions of the Standard Model involve two Higgs doublet fields to break the electroweak symmetry, leading to the existence of three neutral and two charged Higgs particles. In particular, this is the case of the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model, the MSSM. A very important parameter is $\tanβ$ defined as the ratio of the vacuum expectation value of the two Higgs doublets. In this paper we focus on the left-right asymmetry in the production of polarised top quarks in association with charged Higgs bosons at the LHC. This quantity allows for a theoretically clean determination of $\tanβ$. In the MSSM, the asymmetry remains sensitive to the strong and electroweak radiative corrections and, thus, to the superparticle spectrum. Some possible implications of these results are discussed.

Exact computation of one-loop correction to energy of pulsating strings in AdS_5 x S^5

In the present paper, which is a sequel to arXiv:1001:4018, we compute the one-loop correction to the energy of pulsating string solutions in AdS_5 x S^5. We show that, as for rigid spinning string elliptic solutions, the fluctuation operators for pulsating solutions can be also put into the single-gap Lame' form. A novel aspect of pulsating solutions is that the one-loop correction to their energy is expressed in terms of the stability angles of the quadratic fluctuation operators. We explicitly study the "short string" limit of the corresponding one-loop energies, demonstrating a certain universality of the form of the energy of "small" semiclassical strings. Our results may help to shed light on the structure of strong-coupling expansion of anomalous dimensions of dual gauge theory operators.

Semi-inclusive bottom-Higgs production at LHC: The complete one-loop electroweak effect in the MSSM

We present the first complete calculation of the one-loop electroweak effect in the process of semi-inclusive bottom-Higgs production at LHC in the MSSM. The size of the electroweak contribution depends on the choice of the final produced neutral Higgs boson, and can be relevant, in some range of the input parameters. A comparison of the one-loop results obtained in two different renormalization schemes is also performed, showing a very good NLO scheme independence. We further comment on two possible, simpler, approximations of the full NLO result, and on their reliabilty.

Generalized Gribov-Lipatov Reciprocity and AdS/CFT

Planar N=4 SYM theory and QCD share the gluon sector, suggesting the investigation of Gribov-Lipatov reciprocity in the supersymmetric theory. Since the AdS/CFT correspondence links N=4 SYM and superstring dynamics on AdS5xS5, reciprocity is also expected to show up in the quantum corrected energies of certain classical string configurations dual to gauge theory twist-operators. We review recent results confirming this picture and revisiting the old idea of Gribov-Lipatov reciprocity as a modern theoretical tool useful for the study of open problems in AdS/CFT.

Associated production of charged Higgs and top at LHC: the role of the complete electroweak supersymmetric contribution

The process of charged Higgs production in association with a top quark at the LHC has been calculated at the complete NLO electroweak level both in a Two Higgs Doublets Model and in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, assuming a mSUGRA breaking scheme. We have numerically explored the size of the one-loop corrections in two typical supersymmetric scenarios, with particular attention to the tan beta dependence, and we have found that they remain perturbatively small but possibly sizable, reaching a 20% limit for extreme values of tan beta, when the complete set of Feynman diagrams is taken into account.

Analytic solution of the multiloop Baxter equation

The spectrum of anomalous dimensions of gauge-invariant operators in maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory is believed to be described by a long-range integrable spin chain model. We focus in this study on its $sl(2)$ subsector spanned by the twist-two single-trace Wilson operators, which are shared by all gauge theories, supersymmetric or not. We develop a formalism for the solution of the perturbative multiloop Baxter equation encoding their anomalous dimensions, using Wilson polynomials as basis functions and Mellin transform technique. These considerations yield compact results which allow analytical calculations of multiloop anomalous dimensions bypassing the use of the principle of maximal transcendentality. As an application of our method we analytically confirm the known four-loop result. We also determine the dressing part of the five-loop anomalous dimensions.

A peculiar property of SUSY amplitudes at high energy

We observe that the electroweak one loop correction to the quark+gluon to quark+Higgs amplitude at high energy involves both single and quadratic logarithms of the energy in the SM case but only quadratic logarithms in the MSSM case. We explore the origin of this special SUSY cancellation, both in a diagrammatic way and through the splitting+Parameter Renormalization procedure. We show that it is not an accident but a remarkableand general SUSY property of the renormalized Higgs-fermion-fermion and Higgsino-sfermion-fermion vertices which directly reflects in such processes, for example in $bg\to tH^-$, $bg\to bH^0$, $bg\to bh^0$, $bg\to bA^0$, and through equivalence in $bg\to tW^-_{long}$, $bg\to bZ_{long}$, as well as in $bg\to \tilde{t}χ^-$, $bg\to\tilde{b}χ^0$. This simplification of the high energy behaviour (which only leaves quadratic logarithms involving pure gauge couplings without any free parameter) allows to write simple relations among these various processes which constitute genuine tests of the assumed SUSY model.

One-loop electroweak effects on stop-chargino production at LHC

The process of stop-chargino production at LHC has been calculated in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model at the complete electroweak one-loop level, assuming a mSUGRA symmetry breaking scheme. Several properties of the angular and invariant mass distributions of the basic bottom-gluon to stop-chargino amplitudes have been derived. For a meaningful collection of different benchmark points the overall electroweak one-loop effects are at most of the order of a few percent. At the realistically expected LHC accuracy, the main supersymmetric electroweak features of the process can be therefore essentially derived in this theoretical scheme from the simple Born level expressions.

Four loop reciprocity of twist two operators in N=4 SYM

The four loop universal anomalous dimension of twist-2 operators in N=4 SYM has been recently conjectured. In this paper, we prove that it obeys a generalized Gribov-Lipatov reciprocity, previously known to hold at the three loop level.

Twist-three at five loops, Bethe Ansatz and wrapping

We present a formula for the five-loop anomalous dimension of N=4 SYM twist-three operators in the sl(2) sector. We obtain its asymptotic part from the Bethe Ansatz and finite volume corrections from the generalized Luescher formalism, considering scattering processes of spin chain magnons with virtual particles that travel along the cylinder. The complete result respects the expected large spin scaling properties and passes non-trivial tests including reciprocity constraints. We analyze the pole structure and find agreement with a conjectured resummation formula. In analogy with the twist-two anomalous dimension at four-loops, wrapping effects are of order log^2 M/M^2 for large values of the spin.

Structure of large spin expansion of anomalous dimensions at strong coupling

The anomalous dimensions of planar N=4 SYM theory operators like tr(Phi D^S Phi) expanded in large spin S have the asymptotics γ= f ln S + f_c + 1/S (f_11 ln S + f_10) + ..., where f (the universal scaling function or cusp anomaly), f_c and f_mn are given by power series in the `t Hooft coupling λ. The subleading coefficients appear to be related by the so called functional relation and parity invariance (or reciprocity) property of the function expressing γin terms of the conformal spin of the collinear group. Here we study the structure of such large spin expansion at strong coupling via AdS/CFT, i.e. by using the dual description in terms of folded spinning string in AdS_5. The large spin expansion of the classical string energy happens to have the same structure as that of γin the perturbative gauge theory. Moreover, the functional relation and the reciprocity constraints on the coefficients are also satisfied. We compute the leading string 1-loop corrections to the coefficients f_c, f_11, f_10 and verify the functional/reciprocity relations at subleading λ^{-1/2} order. This provides a strong indication that these relations hold not only in weak coupling (gauge-theory) but also in strong coupling (string-theory) perturbative expansions.
