Chiral effective theory of diquarks and the U_A(1) anomaly

The diquark is a strongly correlated quark pair that plays an important role in hadrons and hadronic matter. In order to treat the diquak as a building block of hadrons, we formulate an effective theory of diquark fields with $SU(3)_R \times SU(3)_L$ chiral symmetry. We concentrate on the scalar ($0^+$) and pseudoscalar ($0^-$) diquarks and construct a linear-sigma-model Lagrangian. It is found that the effective Lagrangian contains a new type of chirally symmetric meson-diquark-diquark coupling that breaks axial $U_A(1)$ symmetry. We discuss consequences of the $U_A(1)$ anomaly term to the diquark masses as well as to the singly heavy baryon spectrum, which is directly related to the diquark spectrum. We find an inverse mass ordering between strange and nonstrange diquarks. The parameters of the effective theory can be determined by the help of lattice QCD calculations of diquarks and also from the mass spectrum of the singly heavy baryons. We determine the strength of the $U_A(1)$ anomaly term, which is found to give a significant portion of the diquark masses.

Compact $sssc\bar{c}$ pentaquark states predicted by a quark model

Several compact $sssc\bar c$ pentaquark resonances are predicted in a potential quark model. The Hamiltonian is the best available one, which reproduces the masses of the low-lying charmed and strange hadrons well. Full five-body calculations are carried out by the use of the Gaussian expansion method, and the relevant baryon-meson thresholds are taken into account explicitly. Employing the real scaling method, we predict four sharp resonances, $J^P=1/2^-$ ($E=5180$ MeV, $Γ=20$ MeV), $5/2^-$ (5645 MeV, 30 MeV), $5/2^-$ (5670 MeV, 50 MeV), and $1/2^+$ (5360 MeV, 80 MeV). These are the candidates of compact pentaquark resonance states from the current best quark model, which should be confirmed either by experiments or lattice QCD calculations.

Charmed dibaryon resonances in the potential quark model

Charmed dibaryon states with the spin-parity $J^π=0^+$, $1^+$, and $2^+$are predicted for the two-body $Y_cN$ ($=Λ_c$, $Σ_c$, or $Σ^*_c$) systems. We employ the complex scaling method for the coupled channel Hamiltonian with the $Y_cN$-CTNN potentials, which were proposed in our previous study. We find four sharp resonance states near the $Σ_c N$ and $Σ^*_c N$ thresholds. From the analysis of the binding energies of partial channel systems, we conclude that these resonance states are Feshbach resonances. We compare the results with the $Y_c N$ resonance states in the heavy quark limit, where the $Σ_c N$ and $Σ^*_c N$ thresholds are degenerate, and find that they form two pairs of the heavy-quark doublets in agreement with the heavy quark spin symmetry.

Nucleon and $Δ$ isobar in a strong magnetic field

We investigate the static properties of the nucleon in the presence of strong magnetic fields and discuss the consequent changes of the nucleon structure, based on the Skyrme model. The results show that at large values of the magnetic field ($\sim10^{17}$ to $10^{18} \mathrm{G}$), which is supposed to appear in heavy-ion collision experiments at RHIC energies, the soliton starts to deviate from the spherically symmetric form and its size starts to change. At extremely large values of the magnetic field ($\sim 10^{19}$ G), which may be found at the LHC experiments, the soliton becomes more compact than in free space. The results also show that in the presence of the external magnetic field, the mass of the nucleon tends to increase in general and the mass degeneracy of the $Δ$ isobars from isospin symmetry will be lifted. We also discuss the changes in the mass difference between the $Δ$ and the nucleon, $Δm_{Δ\mathrm{N}}$, due to the influence of the external magnetic field. We find that $Δm_{Δ\mathrm{N}}$ increases as the strength of the magnetic field grows.

Hadronic Paschen-Back effect

We find a novel phenomenon induced by the interplay between a strong magnetic field and finite orbital angular momenta in hadronic systems, which is analogous to the Paschen-Back effect observed in the field of atomic physics. This effect allows the wave functions to drastically deform. We discuss anisotropic decay from the deformation as a possibility to measure the strength of the magnetic field in heavy-ion collision at LHC, RHIC and SPS, which has not experimentally been measured. As an example we investigate charmonia with a finite orbital angular momentum in a strong magnetic field. We calculate the mass spectra and mixing rates. To obtain anisotropic wave functions, we apply the cylindrical Gaussian expansion method, where the Gaussian bases to expand the wave functions have different widths along transverse and longitudinal directions in the cylindrical coordinate.

Further signatures to support the tetraquark mixing framework for the two light-meson nonets

In this work, we investigate additional signatures to support the tetraquark mixing framework that has been recently proposed as a possible structure for the two nonets, namely $a_0 (980)$, $K_0^* (800)$, $f_0 (500)$, $f_0 (980)$ in the light nonet, $a_0 (1450)$, $K_0^* (1430)$, $f_0 (1370)$, $f_0 (1500)$ in the heavy nonet. First, we advocate that the two nonets form the flavor nonet approximately satisfying the Gell-Mann--Okubo mass relation. Then we reexamine the mass ordering generated from the tetraquark nonets and show that this mass ordering is satisfied by the two nonets although the ordering in the heavy nonet is marginal. The marginal mass ordering however can be regarded as another signature for tetraquarks because it can be explained partially by the hyperfine masses calculated from the tetraquark mixing framework. The tetraquark mixing parameters are found to be independent of isospins giving additional support for the formation of the flavor nonets. In addition, we discuss the other approaches like two-quark pictures or meson-meson bound states, and their possible limitations in explaining the two nonets. As a peculiar signature distinguished from other approaches, we investigate the fall-apart coupling strengths into two vector mesons from our tetraquarks. Coupling strengths into the two-vector modes are found to enhance strongly in the heavy nonet while they are suppressed in the light nonet. The coupling ratios, which depend on the isospin channel, are found to be huge around $\sim 15$. This trend in the two-vector modes, which is opposite to that in the two-pseudoscalar fall-apart modes, can provide another testing ground for the tetraquark mixing framework. Some experimental evidences related to the phenomena are discussed particularly from the resonances belonging to the heavy nonet.

Non-perturbative evaluation for anomalous dimension in 2-dimensional O(3) sigma model

We calculate the wave-function renormalization in 2-dimensional O(3) sigma model, non- perturbatively. It is evaluated in a box with a finite spatial extent. We determine the anomalous dimension in the finite volume scheme through an analysis of the step scaling function. Results are compared with a perturbative evaluation, and the reasonable behavior is confirmed.

Resonance in the $Y_{c}N$ potential model

We calculate two-body $J^π=0^{+}, 1^{+}$, and $J^π=2^{+}$ resonance states of $Y_{c}$ ($= Λ_{c}$, $Σ_{c}$, or $Σ_{c}^{*}$) and $N$ using the complex scaling method. We employ the $Y_{c}N$-CTNN potentials, which were proposed in our previous study, and obtain four resonances near $Σ_{c}N$ and $Σ_{c}^{*}N$ thresholds. From the analysis by the binding energies of partial channel systems, we conclude that these resonance states are Feshbach resonances. We compare the results with the $Y_{c}N$ resonance states in the heavy quark limit, where the $Σ_{c}N$ and $Σ_{c}^{*}N$ thresholds are degenerate, and find that they form two pairs of the heavy-quark doublets in agreement with the heavy quark spin symmetry.

Quark model estimate of hidden-charm pentaquark resonances

A quark model, which reproduces the ground-state mesons and baryons, i.e., the threshold energies, is applied to the $qqqc\bar c$ configurations, where $q$ is a light quark and~$c$ the charmed quark. In the calculation, several open channels are explicitly included such as $\Jpsi +N$, $η_c+N$, $Λ_c +D$, etc. To distinguish genuine resonances and estimate their width, we employ Gaussian Expansion Method supplemented by the real scaling method (stabilization). No resonance is found at the energies of the $P_c(4380)$ and $P_c(4450)$ pentaquarks. On the other hand, there is a sharp resonant state at 4690\,MeV with $J=1/2^-$ state and another one at 4920\,MeV with $J=3/2^-$ state, which have a compact structure.

Charmonium ground and excited states at finite temperature from complex Borel sum rules

Charmonium spectral functions in vector and pseudoscalar channels at finite temperature are investigated through the complex Borel sum rules and the maximum entropy method. Our approach enables us to extract the peaks corresponding to the excited charmonia, $ψ^\prime$ and $η_c^\prime$, as well as those of the ground states, $J/ψ$ and $η_c$, which has never been achieved in usual QCD sum rule analyses. We show the spectral functions in vacuum and their thermal modification around the critical temperature, which leads to the almost simultaneous melting (or peak disappearance) of the ground and excited states.

Tetraquark mixing framework for isoscalar resonances in light mesons

Recently, a tetraquark mixing framework has been proposed for light mesons and applied more or less successfully to the isovector resonances, $a_0(980), a_0(1450)$, as well as to the isodoublet resonances, $K^*_0(800), K^*_0(1430)$. In this work, we present a more extensive view on the mixing framework and extend this to the isoscalar resonances, $f_0 (500)$, $f_0(980)$, $f_0 (1370)$, $f_0(1500)$. Tetraquarks in this framework can have two spin configurations containing either spin-0 diquark or spin-1 diquark and each configuration forms a nonet in flavor space. The two spin configurations are found to mix strongly through the color-spin interactions. Their mixtures, which diagonalize the hyperfine masses, can generate the physical resonances constituting the two nonets, which, in fact, coincide roughly with the experimental observation. We identify that $f_0 (500)$, $f_0(980)$ are the isoscalar members in the light nonet, and $f_0 (1370)$, $f_0(1500)$ are the similar members in the heavy nonet. This means that the spin configuration mixing, as it relates the corresponding members in the two nonets, can generate $f_0 (500), f_0 (1370)$ among the members in light mass, and $f_0(980), f_0(1500)$ in heavy mass. The complication arises because the isoscalar members of each nonet are subject to an additional flavor mixing known as OZI rule so that $f_0 (500), f_0 (980)$, and similarly $f_0 (1370), f_0 (1500)$, are the mixture of two isoscalar members belonging to an octet and a singlet in SU$_f$(3). The tetraquark mixing framework including the flavor mixing is tested for the isoscalar resonances in terms of the mass splitting and the fall-apart decay modes.

Charmed Baryon $Λ_c$ in Nuclear Matter

Density dependences of the mass and self-energies of $Λ_c$ in nulear matter are studied in the parity projected QCD sum rule. Effects of nuclear matter are taken into account through the quark and gluon condensates. It is found that the four-quark condensates give dominant contributions. As the density dependences of the four-quark condensates are not known well, we examine two hypotheses. One is based on the factorization hypothesis (F-type) and the other is derived from the perturbative chiral quark model (QM-type). The F-type strongly depends on density, while the QM-type gives a weaker dependence. It is found that, for the F-type dependence, the energy of $Λ_c$ increases as the density of nuclear matter grows, that is, $Λ_c$ feels repulsion. On the other hand, the QM-type predicts a weak attraction ($\sim 20$ MeV at the normal nuclear density) for $Λ_c$ in nuclear matter. We carry out a similar analysis of the $Λ$ hyperon and find that the F-type density dependence is too strong to explain the observed binding energy of $Λ$ in nuclei. Thus we conclude that the weak density dependence of the four-quark condensate is more realistic. The scalar and vector self-energies of $Λ_c$ for the QM-type dependence are found to be much smaller than those of the light baryons.

Spectroscopy and production of doubly charmed tetraquarks

We discuss the production of the exotic doubly-charmed tetraquark mesons ${\rm T}_{{\rm c}{\rm c}}({\rm c}{\rm c}\bar{\rm u}\bar{\rm d})$ from electron-positron collisions. ${\rm T}_{{\rm c}{\rm c}}({\rm c}{\rm c}\bar{\rm u}\bar{\rm d})$ is a compact exotic hadron whose binding energy is provided by the diquark correlations. We evaluate the production cross section in the electron-positron collisions using the nonrelativistic QCD framework, and investigate the difference of the production cross section for different color configurations in two charm quarks (antitriplet and sextet), where the mixing of different configurations is suppressed in the heavy quark limit. The total cross section is estimated by modeling the nonperturbative fragmentation process of the charm quark pair into the tetraquark by the wavefunction of the tetraquark and the probability of picking up the light quarks. We find that the internal color configurations are distinguishable by the qualitative features of the differential cross sections which are independent of the nonperturbative matrix elements.

Flavor-singlet charm pentaquark

A new type of charm pentaquark $P_{cs}$ with quark content $c\bar{c}uds$ in light-flavor singlet state is studied in the quark model. This state is analogous to the $P_{c}$ with $c\bar{c}uud$ in light-flavor octet, which was observed in LHC in 2015. Considering various combinations of color, spin and light flavor as internal quantum numbers in $P_{cs}$, we investigate the mass ordering of the $P_{cs}$'s by adopting both the one-gluon exchange interaction and the instanton-induced interaction in the quark model. The most stable configuration of $P_{cs}$ is identified to be total spin $1/2$ in which the $c\bar{c}$ is combined to be color octet and spin $1$, while the $uds$ cluster is in a color octet state. The other color octet configurations, the total spin $1/2$ state with the $c\bar{c}$ spin 0 and the state with total spin $3/2$ and $c\bar{c}$ spin 1, are found as excited states. We also discuss possible decay modes of these charm pentaquarks.

Properties of non-local wave function equivalent potential with generalized derivative expansion

We examine the properties of the wave-function-equivalent potentials which HAL QCD collaboration has introduced. We generalize the derivative expansion, and then apply it to energy-independent and non-local potentials in a coupled-channel model. We observe that the expansion converges by comparing the scattering phase shifts computed from these potentials with the exact one. We have also found that the convergence can be improved by either varying the choice of interpolating fields or tuning the expansion scale in the generalized derivative expansion. The results will be utilized in future lattice QCD calculations, allowing for further application of the HAL QCD method.

Theoretical study of the Xi(1620) and Xi(1690) resonances in Xi_c -> pi^+ MB decays

Nonleptonic weak decays of Xi_c into pi^+ and a meson (M)-baryon (B) final state, MB, are analyzed from the viewpoint of probing S=-2 baryon resonances, i.e. Xi(1620) and Xi(1690), of which spin-parity and other properties are not well known. We argue that the weak decay of Xi_c is dominated by a single quark-line diagram, preferred by the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa coefficient, color recombination factor, the diquark correlation, and the kinematical condition. The decay process has an advantage of being free from meson resonances in the pi^+M invariant mass distribution. The invariant mass distribution of the meson-baryon final state is calculated with three different chiral unitary approaches, assuming that the Xi(1620) and Xi(1690) resonances have J^P=1/2^-. It is found that a clear peak for the Xi(1690) is seen in the piXi and KbarLambda spectra. We also suggest that the ratios of the piXi, KbarLambda and KbarSigma final states are useful to distinguish whether the peak is originated from the Xi(1690) resonance or it is a KbarSigma threshold effect.

Derivative Expansion of Wave Function Equivalent Potentials

Properties of the wave function equivalent potentials introduced by HAL QCD collaboration are studied in a non-relativistic coupled-channel model. The derivative expansion is generalized, and then applied to the energy-independent and non-local potentials. The expansion coefficients are determined from analytic solutions to the Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter wave functions. The scattering phase shifts computed from these potentials are compared with the exact values to examine the convergence of the expansion. It is confirmed that the generalized derivative expansion converges in terms of the scattering phase shift rather than the functional structure of the non-local potentials. It is also found that the convergence can be improved by tuning either the choice of interpolating fields or expansion scale in the generalized derivative expansion.

Flavor structure of $Λ$ baryons from lattice QCD: From strange to charm quarks

We study $Λ$ baryons of spin-parity $\frac{1}{2}^{\pm}$ with either a strange or charm valence quark in full 2+1 flavor lattice QCD. Multiple $SU(3)$ singlet and octet operators are employed to generate the desired single baryon states on the lattice. Via the variational method, the couplings of these states to the different operators provide information about the flavor structure of the $Λ$ baryons. We make use of the gauge configurations of the PACS-CS Collaboration and chirally extrapolate the results for the masses and $SU(3)$ flavor components to the physical point. We furthermore gradually change the hopping parameter of the heaviest quark from strange to charm to study how the properties of the $Λ$ baryons evolve as a function of the heavy quark mass. It is found that the baryon energy levels increase almost linearly with the quark mass. Meanwhile, the flavor structure of most of the states remains stable, with the exception of the lowest $\frac{1}{2}^{-}$ state, which changes from a flavor singlet $Λ$ to a $Λ_c$ state with singlet and octet components of comparable size. Finally, we discuss whether our findings can be interpreted with the help of a simple quark model and find that the negative-parity $Λ_c$ states can be naturally explained as diquark excitations of the light $u$ and $d$ quarks. On the other hand, the quark-model picture does not appear to be adequate for the negative-parity $Λ$ states, suggesting the importance of other degrees of freedom to describe them.
